try this
different with GB bootloaders
volume up + power for download
volume down + power for recovery
and also try this but try the method above first.
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper tar file in pit and the .pda file in pda in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers

The download mode keys are different sometimes with GB bootloaders. For me it was Hold up or Hold down then plug usb in.
Then just odin with the 512 pit and jfd tar. Make sure re-partition is unchecked.
If all else fails and phone seems hard bricked you can get a riff repair. A guy did it for me on ebay for 35.

[Q] Do I need to replace my Vibrant?

So I was using Odin to flash the stock ROM so I could flash to Nero v3...Had some trouble with Odin now this icon is all I can get the phone to show me. Attempts to get back into download mode haven't worked. I've done the Volume up + Volume - and Power button.
Did I brick my phone?
Did you have voodoo enabled when you flashed?
Unplug phone. Open odin. remove battery. Plug phone in. hold volume up/down keys. plug battery back in. should auto boot into download mode. I've seen that screen a few times and managed to go back to stock make sure its 512 pit jfd rom. Not ji6 513.

That icon looks so familiar...
Do what boystuff said...exactly. Don't touch the power button at all. And for me, I had to also remove both the sim and sd card along with the battery.
So to recap: take all 3 out, connect the phone to the computer via usb cord, hold down both volume buttons, then while holding them down insert the battery. It'll kick you into download mode.

Much help would be appreciated!!! Have to work all day today which will be slow, so I can work on fixing this. My main question is what type of file is pit & tar? Pit properties is coming up as a window shell comand, Tar opens with unknow app? Not sure if this is my problem or not, I get ODIN to run and complete the steps and end up with the above.
Using Odin V1.3

Get back into download mode and flash Eugenes Froyo That Does Not Brick, that will wipe everything and fix your Voodoo issues. From there you should flash back to JFD then to anything you want.

thats the problem i cannot get into downloader mode
Have you tried the batt pull method? You could also try adb reboot download. If these do not work for you your will need a Jig to get her back to life.
the Adb method does not work because the pc will not recognize that there is a usb plugged in with the phone and what is the batt pull method and if a jig is something hardware rigging i am a complete idiot when it comes to that

Just pull the batt out. Plug usb to phone only first, hold down volume + and - and don't let go then plus in usb to your computer while still holding volume keys and put battery back in. That should work for you. A Jig is a rigged hardware piece that forces your phone to Dl mode.
where is the link for the eugene froyo files? Pda & Pit files needed please link.
To get into downloader mode this works everytime for me....
Start up ODIN, make sure phone is OFF (take out battery) plug back in
hold both the volume up/down (or more near center)....
While holding that plug in the USB connector,
this methods works all the time.
Im stuck in bootloops currently and do anything no responses yet.
Sweet! that totally got me back into download mode...next question why am i getting stuck at file analysis?
bnielsen40, Boystuff, and Osuhsxr are totally right about the vol keys no crazy special soldering required.

[Q] Help, Vibrant stuck at boot

Hello,
I almost bricked my phone while trying to root it with heimdall (followed instruction from CM site). Then I managed to get it into the download mode with the Jig and flashed the JFD stock using Odin. Now the phone is stuck at boot. It keeps boot looping after the Vibrant screen. Is there a way to get the phone back to normal. Any help is appreciated.
i dont use heimdall but i would try using odin and see if that works. Grab the pit file and tar file and try to odin back to stock with odin.
You must have done something wrong when flashing with Odin/Heimdall. Read EVERYTHING carefully again, and try flashing with Odin/Heimdall again.
If you are using Windows, i would recommend you to use Odin since most people here uses Odin. In the CM7 site says that Heimdall its better than Odin, but everyone here is flashing with Odin and so far i haven't heard of anyone having problems with it. Make sure to use Odin 1.7 or a later one, those are the one that are stable, Odin 1.6 or lower its unstable.
Yeah most people use odin. Whenever I have problems like this I do these steps and its always worked for me hope the same goes for you! Seems long but all the steps are really simple.
1. Pull out battery, sd card, and sim card
2. Let phone sit with battery etc. out for at least 10 min
3. Install sim card, sd, and battery.
4. Plug in USB and open odin, do not connect usb to phone yet
5.hold the volume up and volume down buttons (don't hold down the power button) while holding volume up and down plug the micro usb into your phone. This should put your phone into download mode.
6. At this point most times odin will recognize my device but sometimes I just have to unplug the micro usb and re-insert for odin to recognize. Just choose the stock pit and pda and flash.
7. Your phone is now stock!

What? I don't undestand how the phone will turn on with out press the power botton. I try your process and nothing. I have my phone brick thank you to CyanogenMod 3.1, after you install is impossible uninstall. I try flashing the NAND restore.
real simple here..
just turn ur phone off
turn on odin and make sure u have ur samsung drivers installed.
plug ur phone in with the usb
now hold down the two volume buttons first and then the power and let go of power when u see the vibrant logo pop up.
then it will pop up in dl mode.
This is how i do it all the time....
ps.. it may take a few takes but it always works
The phone was stuck at boot only after I tried to odin back to stock JFD using Odin 1.7. I tried several combinations (w/ or w/o pit, repartitioning etc) mentioned in several guide across the forum. But nothing worked, then I tried something stupid. I tried to flash KA7 through odin, as my phone had 2.2.1 when I got it, and that resulted in a complete brick. There is no response even to the Jig.
I finally called T-mobile and requested a replacement as the mobile was only 2 weeks old.

[Q] CM7 Error or user error?

OK i have Tried ODIN.... Is clockwork recovery the same as download mode? and if not what am i missing? :more details: I can mount the internal sd to the computer from clockwork but clockwork wont mount the sd to the phone. I downloaded Kies mini and installed drivers for the vibrant. I have odin and the tar and pit files. i have the android sdk also... any help is greatly needed. Thanks.
turn on odin and hook up ur phone to ur pc with usb cable and then go into download mode. U should see a yellow icon saying com if it is yellow then ur phone has been recognized. Then put the pitfile in pit and the tar file with pda and then click start. Give it like 5 to 10 min and then it will restart and u will be back at stock!
download mode is the android guy with a yellow triangle
to go into download mode:
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.

After using odin i get to system recovery 2e. but the phone will not boot, it passes the sgs screen but then black screen, the buttons on the bottom still act responsive. I was on CM7 could this be the issue?

Go back a few builds (CM7)...it is a known bug.
*hint--read the comments on the nightlies before flashing.

To be frank... bootloaders are dangerous. Does not sound good.
Do you see ANY lights? What about when charging? Anything? Removed the battery for a few hours and try again... nothing? May want to tell T-Mo you had an incident with mini kies, or be honest and get a new phone.

Cant stop CM7 Bootloop

Im having this exact issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155364&highlight=boot+loop which is preventing me from doing either recovery or download mode.
