Hi guys
I'm a beginner in rooting and I own an Aria and NOT GRATIA from Malaysia no idea what is At&T. Am not using it anyway.
The Aria i have is a 2.2 froyo OTA as mention from Malaysia Asia.
From this Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159237
1) Can I update it from 2.2 Froyo OTA? As I have no idea what my Hboot is... probably is from the earliest update.
2) Can I in anyway update my firmware to the 2.2.2 from 2.2? like using RUU? (what is RUU btw?)
3) Can I unroot it back to stock 2.1 or 2.2 for warranty claim?
4) Can i use Custom Rom after S-off and rooting Aria? like cyanogenmod or liberated?
Any reply are appreciated Thanks in advance!

Probably, but we need to find out exactly what your HBOOT version is first to be sure. Turn your phone completely off. Then hold down the volume down button and press the power button, then after a couple seconds you can release the volume down button. It should say what your HBOOT version is on the top of the screen. Let us know what it is.
To get out of this menu, make sure "fastboot" is highlighted in the menu at the bottom and press the power button. Then press volume down to select "reboot" and press the power button again.

Yes, but you might not need to. It will depend on your HBOOT version. RUU means ROM Update Utility, which is an HTC utility that updates your phone's software.
3) Can I unroot it back to stock 2.1 or 2.2 for warranty claim?

No, you can't. You can install the original ROM again, but you can't revert the HBOOT. It would be obvious to someone that knows what to look for that you voided the warranty.

Awesome
Thanks alot for the reply... I tried to find my Hboot ver. and here are the info
Liberty PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.02.0000 <<< So i don't have to update it to 2.2.2 or anything else.
2) So ... I can definitely proceed without update now that i know my hboot is 1.02 right? And I can proceed according to the instruction on the link?
3) Do I need to use titanium backup to backup my original ROM? or is it possible to get it from this website?

1. No. You don't.
2. Yes and yes.
3. No. You can backup your current rom using ClockworkMod which is included in the link.
Alright thanks alot
To clarify the answer to your 3rd question, using AlphaRevX doesn't modify or overwrite your ROM at all. You will have the opportunity to backup your settings with any method you want after using AlphaRevX and flashing Clockworkmod recovery.

You cant run it from windows. you have to run it from the command line.
Read http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Fastboot <----THAT to understand fastboot. Shouldn't be any more questions.
I'm a total noob at rooting and stuff, but after spending the last few hours trying, I found another way to do it. Download the Clockworkmod file, as posted, and download the file mentioned under the "To root" section; put this second file onto your sd card. I just transferred it using Windows.
Extract the recovery file somewhere you'll remember it. (I used Downloads.) Now, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638 and download Android Flasher. (Make sure your Aria is hooked to your computer.) Run Android Flasher, and select "Recovery". (It's one of the options on the left side). Navigate to the location of your recovery.img, and select it. The phone should switch itself to fastboot, then install clockworkmod. It then goes right into clockworkmod, and you can follow the steps listed to install the root.
Once I found the thread on Android Flasher, I had clockworkmod and root within about 90 seconds. Just downloaded and installed Titanium Backup, and it asked for superuser rights, which I granted, so it seems to be working for me.
I hope this is clear enough; I'm a bit tired right now. It was an easy process....after my three hours of trying command lines and stuff. Sigh.
it don't get no easier.THANK YOU!!!

No, you will probably need to flash the AT&T 2.2.2 Froyo update to get HBOOT 1.02
Install the old software after AlphaRev-ing...
Don't know if this will work for anyone else, but I was able to do the following:
1. Run AlphaRev on newest HTC Aria
2. Install the 1.25.502.12 HTC ROM over the 2.2 ROM (previously impossible due to the new HBOOT)
3. Run Unrevoked
4. Install CM7/Google Apps through ClockworkMod

Once you are s-off you can use fastboot to flash clockworkmod then install your rom of choice. No need to downgrade and unrevoke. Attn1 has posted the instructions on how to flash clockwork from fastboot a couple of times in Aria threads.

You have to update to HBOOT 1.02.0000 before you can use this. Installing the AT&T 2.2.2 official update is the easiest way to do that.

i have hboot hboot 0.59.0000
Currently on HBOOT 0.57.0000 with S-ON and want to upgrade to 1.02.0000 so I can use Revolutionary to S-OFF. Is there anyway to upgrade the HBOOT to this version without losing my CWM/CM7 setup or using a stock RUU to flash? Can the HBOOT be extracted from the stock RUU? On a US AT&T Aria for the record.
Just nandroid first then run the ruu-revolutionary-then restore.after you s-off you can fastboot flash whatever version of cwm you want.
Sent from my HTC Aria using XDA App
I understand that method, but was attempting to avoid the RUU flashing. Just wanted to upgrade the HBOOT with the 1.02.000 nb0 file. Can this be done via fastboot?

I don't think so.
Try this one.Usageut the LIBEDIAG.zip into you /sdcard and then turn off you device, hold on Vol-,and then power button to HBoot, wait few sec, then it will display info,do it as the info.
I have not test it,'cos I have no one s-on device, but these operation will not damage you phone.

Depends on your HBOOT version. I just got a new flyer and the HBOOT was *not* recognised by Revolutionary.
By going the HTCDEV route I've got it unlocked (but not S-OFF) and have flashed clockwork mod recovery and installed a custom rom and have full root.
Different route, same result.
Ok thanks all done upgraded to honeycomb with that guide and have recovery so next is to flash that new aosp icecream rom waiting for stable build thanks again for your help.
I don't see no su app installed for root it did say it installs did I need to unlock my bootloader from htc website or something like that looks like no su app was installed.

Superuser is there; try running an application that requests root privileges (such as Titanium Backup), and you should see the prompt.
Ok thanks also does anyone ever get a problem when unlocking the device pull the ring sometimes does not respond this has happened to me twice now I did a hard reset and it went away when I flashed honeycomb it's started again strange problem.
This thread is regarding RUU for HTC devices.
I've seen some similar threads but could not fully get the answer I was looking for.
From what I already understand, a RUU updates the ROM, the H-BOOT possibly and updates the recovery with a stock recovery. It cannot do anything that a BL-Unlocked user cannot do through adb or fastboot because the RUU uses only adb and fastboot. This means that the RUU does not (And cannot) update the radio. Am I correct in this?
And if so, what is the point of updating the RUU once you start flashing custom ROMs because they also flash the /system and /boot partitions and the only thing a custom ROM doesn't do is reflash the H-BOOT and the recovery.
And even if you update using a RUU for some reason (Whether it updates or if you just want to return to stock), do you have to choose the RUU that exactly matches your current radio version?
Assume for all the questions that the device is either BL-Unlocked or Stock (But S-ON either way).
Thanks in advance.

Hi, an ruu updates what you mentioned and a lot more. It will do things like change the splash screen, update the radio. and change the hboot which you cannot do with only an unlocked bootloader. It can do those things because its signed.
I had to use ruu's a few times, recently for an hboot downgrade to achieve s-off. Now that I have s-off I can flash any file I want in hboot asblong as its named correctly. Like a splash screen, or a lower hboot version.
Since an ruu updates the radio, it doesn't matter which version you choose, as long as its the same version you have or higher, but it won't let you flash a lower versionWith s-off I can flash any ruu version I want.
ok, so if I am currently running 2.3.4 and htc sense 3.0, does that mean that I can flash my phone with ics (4.0) as long as it is for the right phone and carrier???

I'm not sure for your device, but as long as the RUU is for it, it should work (boot loader version doesn't usually affect it).
hello, i wanted to know if RUU also achieves S-ON. I need to return my droid incredible to verizon for replacement due to screen malfunction. I cannot see anything on the display, but everything inside works fine.
I had unlocked bootloader using htcdev and rooted with S-OFF running 4.1.1. I am now on stock Froyo thanks to RUU, but I still need to get S-ON and bootloader locked.
So does the RUU achieve S-ON? I have downloaded the forever SON zip file. But I dont know how to flash it using ADB. Can someone guide me.

Hi Yeah I have had it relocked and tried executing the RUU but still no luck.
i have the exact same issue. reason is, last time i used the RUU to get back to stock rom, i used the phone on stock rom for a while and updated my phone to the latest build which updated the HBoot to version 3.5.000 but the currently available RUUs are not compatible with the HBOOT v3.5 so we have to wait for the new RUUs
problem for me is that i have sold the phone and didnt want to send the phone out with a custom rom but time is running out im afraid.

I have the exact same problem with my O2 UK One +, does anyone have any idea on when these new RUU's will be available? is it possible to downgrade the HBOOT to an older version that will allow the current RUU's to work?
what about ADB sideloading a flashable .zip of the stock firmware? would that work (if we have a flashable zip) or would it kick back an error?
Thanks.
downgrade hboot works only at S-OFF state
OK, is that possible on this phone? it was on my old HTC Magic, although it was hard work!!!!!
no S-OFF at this time for tegra3
Ok, not looking good then, so is there no way for me to get back to a stock rom now? very tempted to recycle the phone and get another one.....

i have a solution for you.
i have a nandroid back up of my phone, you'd need to flash the boot.img in that and then use clockmod recovery to restore the phone to that nandroid and after that flash a stock recovery, relock the bootloader then use OTA updater on the phone to get it uptodate.
it takes a lot more work than just using the RUU, but they arent available right now, so that's what i did because i sold my phone so wanted it to be back to its original state for the new owner
i have the exact phone, mine was locked to O2 as well. i bet you bought it off that guy on ebay for £400?
