Odin wont recognize my device - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have already installed the Samsung drivers but I cant get Odin to recognize my phone while in download mode. I even installed Kies but no luck. Does anyone have anysuggestions? I can mount my card and copy files but just no luck with Odin.
EDIT: NVM I've resolved my issue. I thought that my SGS1 setup was enough but I guess not. I had to reinstall Kies, reboot, restart Kies and went to Tools, then Install Drivers, reboot, then reconnect phone and it worked.

[Q] Kies: devicemanager.exe has stopped working.

Whenever I plug in my phone to install the drivers so that my phone will be recognized by windows 7 x64, MTP drivers fail to install. If I start Kies, and try to connect it says "Devicemanager.exe has stopped working" and then my SGSII is just stalled in kies as "Connecting".
Any idea how to fix this???
...
I have now tried uninstalling kies and galaxy s2 drivers, reinstalling kies, downloading drivers from within kies, and then connecting the S2 via usb. The second sgsii gets recognized, same message "Devicemanager.exe has stopped working" and the kies "connecting..." loop.
...
No one can help? I want to unlock my SGS2 so I can use it, but I can't unlock it unless I root it, and I can't root it unless kies is working. Kies refuses to work.
...
Send halp soon!
Either Update your Windows and try again or try to connect in Safe Mode and see what happens.
...
I booted into safe mode, plugged it in while running kies. No more error, but still doesn't recognize. Booted back into regular mode, error returns, still no recognition
windows is up to date.
...
Things I have also tried:
reformatting the internal memory.
uninstalling/reinstalling drivers from phone
uninstalling/reinstalling drivers from kies
uninstalling/reinstalling drivers from phone w/ usb debugging on
transfering devicemanager.exe from another computer over my current kies installation.
I am totally stumped...

Try to re-install the Phone drivers (uninstall it first from Control Panel) and try to connect, in Safe Mode.
STOP using Kies and install a custom rom! I never ever installed Kies and my phone is completely up to date.
Use a different pc if you're so desperate. It seems your pc just doesn't like your phone.
Use kies air instead or use your phone as a mass storage device and don't waste your valuable time trying to fix that buggy, heavy and, in my opinion, useless software installed on your computer known as kies.
I had the same problem. I uninstalled Kies then disabled my firewall (Comodo) and reinstalled. Now it works fine.

[Q] Odin not detecting phone and CWM cant mount emmc

Hey guys I have recently tried flashing the biohazard ics kernel thru clockwork but now that I've done that the phone won't boot but mow when i try to restore my previous rom it says there's an md5 mismatch and when i try to install a rom from the internal card I get a can't mount emmc message. Also since i installed the standard ice rom odin only read my phone when it was turned on. Have I bricked my phone???
If you can still get into download mode, you have not bricked your phone. Just flash an original firmware, root it and try again with the restoration.
I have the firmware but if odin won't detect my phone do i need to reinstall the drivers or get a new cable.

what do you mean if?? pls explain your situation more clearer
try reinstalling drivers. and before opening odin, kill all kies related tasks in task manager. then open odin. then connect phone while in download mode
whenever i was running the previous rom, odin would only detect my phone when it was booted normally but not when i would go into download mode and since i can't pull roms off my sd card because i get a can't mount /emms/ i've never gotten that error message before.
Don't connect your phone to odin, since you have no proper kernel installed Odin won't detect any drivers.
Go to recovery mode and reflash stock kernel stored on your phone(assuming you have stored a kernel).
If you haven't then use Heimdall Suite to flash recovery mode again, use link below for reference:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II:_Full_Update_Guide
i reinstalled the samsung drivers and heimdall doesn't detect my phone either :/
What is the "biohazard ics kernel" ?
Try a different cable, different usb port and different computer.
it's an ice cream sandwich kernel created by biohazard and ever since i cant't boot up and clockwork can't detect my removable sd which is where all my backup files and other roms are. I've already tried about 3 different cables and all ports the only other thing is to find a desktop and see if that works...I have a feeling i might have to buy another phone since my phone so far can't be detected in download mode anymore.
So what exactly happens when you put your phone into download mode (power off phone, then hold volume down and home button while booting it) then plug it into the computer?
Does the computer detect it, does it try to install drivers?
the computer detects it but odin won't detect it unless you've installed kies on your computer

[HELP] My i9100 has soft-bricked and odin doesnt pick up my device

lemme start by saying what i did that caused the problem
i installed PFittech 1.0.4 and everything was moving fine untill touchwiz began FCing alot. i dont use touchwiz anyway (as i had set Apex to default) so i thought i could remove it safely without any reprocussions. i used titanium backup to do a force uninstall but the phone rebooted into a black screen. I cannot get into recovery move at all so i tried to reflash the kernel in hopes that my recovery would be fixed.. I got into download mode just fine but neither odin or windows can connect to my phone
i really need help because nothing from the other posts related to this topic is working, i followed a few other posts and nothing is making odin pick up my device in download mode
Stuff to try when Odin doesn't work:-
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again. Also run Windoze Update.
And if all this fails, try a different PC. If it doesn't work first try on the other PC, go through the above steps on that PC as well.

dont have another pc available so im stuck with this one, tried other USB cables, tried running odin as administrator, tried uninstalling n reinstalling kies, tried another version of odin (1.87)
nothing is working -_-
i should mention that when i attempt to boot normally, the PC is able to discover the drivers and connect to the device. even MTP connects and im able to view the contents of my phone's memory (for some reason, its all 0MB in size)
based on my readings, havent heard anyone having my specific symptoms for my phone.. im getting more and more depressed because i use my phone so much and now that its down and i cant fix it.. just feeling sad :crying:
and all this because i tried to uninstall touchwiz.. :crying:
ok this is what i will try doing
since my PC recognizes my phone only when it boots normally, i will try to flash a recovery image by dropping it on my SD card, then flashing it using droid explorer's "flash recovery image" option - REALLY hope this works
EDIT
nope - not working, even after flashing using droid explorer phone reboots into black screen, no recovery, no nothing..
i recently tried odin3 v 3.04 and odin still doesnt detect my phone in download mode.. drivers are still saying "unknown device" when i boot into download mode.. ive uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted both pc and phone so many times i just feel helpless right now.. like i should just give up and buy a new phone
Need this question answered
does odin pic up the ID:COM on a device whether it is in download mode or not? based on what i read here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1484607.htm
odin is capable of picking up on an ID:COM even if the device isnt in download mode - in my case, odin isnt picking it up at all nd as is, windows is still able to pick up my device if i boot it normally and load MTP and the correct drivers
24 hours now since problem occured and i have made no progress whatsoever.. feeling like giving up.. dont know what to do, and dont think anyone can help me anymore -_-
After 26 hrs of talking to myself and dedication - i finally solved my problem.. i decided to update my windows base and cleared the registry on all installations and all current associated drivers, reinstalled kies, updated new drivers and when connected my phone which was in download mode my phone connected as a "gadget serial" device.. with this - odin was able to pick up on my phone and i flashed a new kernel + recovery.. with that flashed back my rom and bam - back to status

Just an observation... isn't this more or less what MistahBungle said to do in his post in his last suggestion? (short of clearing the registry entries, which is a good idea as well.)

honestly, i tried everything he suggested, but i suppose without the windows update + updating the USB drivers through kies (not download them by themself) - i possibly wouldnt have been successful. i read a tutorial that told me that kies could put my phone into download mode for an update - so what i did was clear registry, uninstall all current drivers and manually made kies reinstall them.. then after that, connected my phone while it was on (with the screen still blank) and selected the option to peform firmware update from kies (which put my phone into download mode) from there, when my phone got into download mode the new drivers loaded up and thats when odin was able to connect
in my situation, the constant plugging out and plugging in and hoping windows by itself could pick up the drivers never helped at all.. few people stated that i didnt need kies and that it interferes with it so what i did was only install the drivers and got rid of kies.. however in my case if not for kies i wouldnt have been able to connect to odin

Odin no longer recognizing phone

Long story short, I accidentally flashed an unrooted ROM and ran the one click unlocker thing. The phone still works fine and connects to the PC (and is recognized), but Odin won't recognize it. I've got my TWRP backup files but no way to spply them. I need to either make odin recognize it again or find an alternate way to do it.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers. I have tried multiple computers, one if which won't recognize the device in download mode, the other recognizes it as a "Samsung Android Device". Again, when not in download mode, both computers recognize it fine, and I can manage files.
Figured it out
For some reason, removing my SD card worked. I'll leave this up in case anyone encounters a similar problem.

[Q] Root My Device

I have Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300, I tried to root it using odin, however the computer didn't recognize the device, therefore I tried to root it with other option, using Framaroot, and for some reason I got error#9, and was unable to root my device.
I appreciate your help,
Thanks.

If you don't have it then install Samsung Kies on your PC this will install the correct up to date drivers, then connect your phone and make sure you get the message saying drivers being installed, once done run Odin again.
Make sure Kies is not running at the same time as Odin as it wont work if Kies is running.
Use CF Auto Root link in my signature

Huh? U installed kies. The drivers are installed automatically when u install kies. How did u still install it manually?
Sent from my GT-I9300.
Give a thank if i helped you.
If you have kies installed then odin won't work. Go read the basic guides in general forum, stick threads.
Don't post duplicate threads for questions asked hundreds of times already, use the search function instead.

Odin will work if Kies is installed but not if its running in the task bar.

Not sure what you mean by my computer still don't recognize my phone when it turned off , if your phone is turned off then no, your computer wont recognise it, because its turned off.
If you installed Kies then the correct drivers will be installed, you start Kies then plug your phone in and make sure Kies recognises it, once that is done close Kies as you don't need it any more, disconnect your phone from your PC and turn it off.
If you have Odin installed already then you need the correct CF Auto root zip from my signature and extract the MD5 file from inside it, start Odin then boot the phone into download mode and plug it into your PC, once its connected click the PDA button in Odin, find the MD5 file then flash it to your phone.
Let your phone reboot and you will have root, you may need to update SuperSU from Play Store to the latest version
Keep Kies up to date by running it now and again to check for updates, this will keep your drivers up to date just ensure it is not running at the same time as Odin as Odin will fail if it is.
