probably u have the standard kernel and no custom kernel with clockwork mod on your phone. "install from zip" is only supported in cwm

To install a ROM you MUST read the instructions in the thread where you got it. It's not just 1 procedure for all different ROMs.
Seriously, if you've not read the installation instructions in the ROM thread, DO NOT try and install it!!!

Try to understand ,,my English its not good enough..
Also ,,i never have a Galaxy before (only HTc phones) and flasing and root its totaly diferent then Htc....so because of that i need help.

hai friends,
how to intall stock rom in a custem rom phone?
Hence the rule : always take a nand backup between different roms. If you go back a few pages in the general section you will find a nand backup of the stock rom.

ok
but if i want to remove completely(means remove recovery and rom)
what is the method for that purpose?
Is it done by lg kdz updator tool
Use kdz update only as a last resort! It can be dangerous.
For your problem, first restore the nand backup. Then in the development section, there is a thread by ciaox that has flashable zips of all recoveries, including the original recovery. You can flash this zip and your recovery will be restored to the stock one.

KDZ transfers data in realtime from your PC to your phone SO if something goes wrong with your PC (it crashes, freezes, power surge etc) you get a bricked device which can be unbricked in very rare cases.
It's easy to use but very very dangerous.

If you flash the zip 'Original_recovery_thunderg.zip' (or something similar) then yes your custom recovery will be removed and it will get reverted to stock recovery.

openOptimus is a very stable and fast ROM; I'm very pleased with it. Works very fine with francisco v13.3 kernel and the battery life is pretty good.
@zalman: did you wipe everything before installing the new rom? By that I mean data, cache, dalvik, system.

here u go and u can flash any custom rom with this (only made for ace)
u cant flash any rom without this.download the zip and follow instructions in my previous post.
you can flash any rom you like made for galaxy ace, and most of the roms root your phone after flashing.
yup..u dont need to root ur phone.. just flash the cmw from ur stock recovery mode.. then u can flash any custom from the cwm ^^.. enjoy!
I have been seeing the same questions being asked again and again..Do we need to root or unroot before flashing,Wonder why :/
Well for me, im not that hightech...
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
first of all..
what u need to do is to download a official cwm..
flash the cwm from ur stock recovery mode (power off+home button)
then download the custom rom that u wan
Follow the instructions given by the developer and then flash it in the cwm (power off+home button)
Tada! u can have ur custom rom ^^
You don't need to be rooted in order to flash any custom rom...
Rooting just gives you powers to access stunning things on your phone...customize your phone etc...

Hi there...
I am new with Samsung phones...came from HTC.
I rooted my SGS 3 with cf-root as discribed in another topic. No i have a CWM based recovery. Can i use clockwork mod to flash roms from sd or do i have to use Odin ?
If Odin... which files do i need to flash or is it always just one file (.tar ???).
Hope u can help...even If it is with a link to another topic

Yea you can use cwm for nearly all custom roms just read the installation instructions first
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Isn't it the same as with the HTC... just download the rom and "instal from zip" when phone is booted in recovery mode ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Metod is the same on all android phones with cwm.

For a good, stable and fast rom you could try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334 and choose 2.2.0 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656. Both roms` s are good. Choose for yourself . Look in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1566for for all rom`s.
I am sorry but i do not have any experience with cwm based phones. My HTC was fully clockwork modded. But the options when booted in recovery are the same...so i asume it Works the same ??

CWM is short for 'Clockwork Mod'
So they not only look the same but (except for potential device-specific features) ARE the same =)
Do i feel stupid now... lol

if you do, I think it may also wipe your sd card so you need to have the Rom on the external sd card, and have the internal one backed up on pc
Most ROM downloads in zip format should flash through cwm and most tar through Odin, however, as previously stated, read installation instructions to be sure.
You also may want to checkout the TWRP recovery, much more efficient IMO

But it's not a MUST ? Wiping dalvik and user cache is enough ?

Why multiple same question posts why not ask in the ARHD question and answers thread .
Repeat the usual answer is one the download is bad or two the user fails to follow instructions are 99% of install faults.

About the instruction im 100% sure that ive done them in right way. But the problem is that im recieving the same error in omega.

So, go through step by step what you do. It's easier to suggest fixes if we have all info instead of single line comments...
You said it's rooted, Are you using a Samsung rom with an exfat sd card or a CM rom with an exfat card, Is the card formatted fat32?
What steps do you do when you flash a rom, internal sd card or external?
Clean install or dirty?

Find out what is going qrong by looking at the recovery logs..after a failed install..reboot the phone..use any root enabled explorer to go into cache》recovery and open last install..then read it and find the line where the installation aborts..post the error here..maybe then we can help..
Just writing i am not able to install will notbget you any help...

How do I install correctly cyanogenmod ?
Is it so hard to read the title of the first few threads ?
Thread moved to Q & A section, consider yourself warned.
hey guys, i have 2 simle maybe stupid questions but i would really apprecciate an answer:
1. can some tell me the difference between the fxp-144a-kumquat and fxp144-kumquat; what does that "a" mean?
2. if somebody knows if cm9 for xperia u has inbuild cwm or some recovery; and if yes, what recovery?
1.144a means it is later version than 144
2.It has CWM 6

Hey guys. I too am getting this same "aborted" message. I will admit, I had a custom ROM installed, but then I rebooted into the backup that cwmrecovery had created from the original Samsung ROM. It was from there that I tried to install the cyanogenmod. No luck... why? I followed all the instructions...
Guys, to install CM you must have Unlocked bootloader, stock ICS, CWM installed. Put the zip into your memory, reboot in CWM and install the zip, wipe data, cash and dalvick cashe and reboot.
