I hated doing that vol down + power button, so whenever I was in my phone, I just used an app called "Quick Boot" to reboot into recovery (found in the market). It requires root to use it but you get 4 options: Power Off, Reboot, Recovery and Bootloader. Helped me when I wanted to reboot into recovery and the Vol down method just wasn't working or was hit or miss.
I did the same thing, used this app a good bit with my og EVO.

How many of us just want to see the s-off bootloader like maybe I was dreaming or its too good to be true.
I just use ROM Manager. For some reason, mine wouldn't fully power down without a battery pull, even with fastboot off. It was getting annoying removing my case and battery cover every time. But I used to use Quck boot on my OG Evo. I like the widgets/shortcuts it has

Whenever I turn off my phone and try and hold down the volume key, it vibrates and then restarts. Pretty much bypassing my ability to get into HBoot. I even wait for almost a minuter before starting the phone. Only thing that seems to works is a battery pull but this is a pain. So what am I missing here?
Thanks
app "quickboot" should work. Also, power down, then while off, hold vol down press power. also, adb reboot bootloader. also, in terminal emulator, reboot bootloader. Most of those should work.
I tried the vol down but like I said it wasn't working. Quickbook works great so thanks.

Quick boot is the easiest, imo. The reason volume down and power wasn't working is because you have fastboot enabled. To disable it go to menu-settings-power and then uncheck fastboot.

almost same story..................BUT bit different.
Mytoch 3g 32B.
cant get into HBoot and dont have any ROM installed on the phone.stucked on red splash screen "Vodafone"
Before there was HBoot 1.33.2010. by mistake flashed SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2005. after it cant get into hboot Back+Power; Volume Down+Power dont work. removed battery for long time. didnt help as well
Any ideas what can i do through adb???
thanx!
hey guys, try taking the battery out, put it back in, then hold the vol.down and press power and hold. It usually works for me.
AKA, you might of Brick your phone, did you finally fix it?
im currently running virtuous flyer and im s off. Problem ive got it i cant get into bootloader or recovery unless i tell adb to reboot it for me.
If i try to power it off it just comes back on lol. And same when i restart it so i never get a chance to hold volume down to get into recovery.
I just reflashed the boot.img to see if that helped but its still the same.
Holding down the power for a really long time (30 seconds maybe longer?) should power off the device. Not sure, but I think this is intended to work in any mode, since battery pull is not an option for us.
i know but the problem is if i press reboot or power off the flyer from the menu it just instantly comes back on so theres no way for me to actually power down the flyer from the OS unless i hold the button down for 20 seconds
It is the boot down animation. Replace it with one from stock and or a post in the theme section

The best way i know is to always have USB debug enabled. Then adb shell > reboot if needed.
Here's what I'm looking at. I just flashed SuperJelly and the device goes into a bootloop. Since it's a new ROM, ADB is disabled, and I can't simulate a battery pull because it restarts rather than shutting down (eliminating my ability to access the bootloader). S-OFF'd with LazyPanda. I'm stuck.
Update: No longer bootlooping, now it's frozen on the boot animation.
Update: After repeated attempts, I was able to open the bootloader (although I'm still not sure how I did it.) MOD's, please delete thread.
If your s-on you have to flash the kernel separately either try fast-food or flashed image gui

For future reference, pressing and holding the power button, waiting for the cap lights to stop blinking, and then when the screen back, letting go of power and holding down Volume Down will bring you to the bootloader. It doesn't matter if you are booting, in Android, stuck, frozen, blackscreen, whatever; as long as you have even 1% battery power you will be able to use that hard coded shortcut. It's similar to how pressing and holding the power button on a laptop will forcibly shut it off and that function is not related to Windows.
So I had loved my Razr and my fiance got my a 4S so i ditched the razr and for some reason went to the iPhone. I just found my Razr in a drawer in my garage and its time to go back to my Droid, I missed it so much.
Thing is I plugged it in and let it charge for an hour or two and its stuck on the Moto insignia/dual core boot screen.
It was rooted/rommed when i was using it but it was in perfect working order when i put it in the box. Is my phone bricked out of no where or something? Is there something that we could try to use to bring it back to life?
Any suggestions?
go to recovery and wipe it.

Turn it off, then turn it on pressing all buttons together, when you see a different screen use the VOL DOWN key to reach the RECOVERY option and then use the VOL UP key to select it. After that a logo of Android will appear on the screen, now you have to press both volume buttons at once to enter recovery menu. Now just go to WIPE CACHE and WIPE DALVIK (this is in the Advanced option). After this just go to REBOOT NOW and you're done!
Ps. In the recovery menu you have to use the power button to select things.
I don't know how much do know about these kind of stuff so I made myself very clear and put it step-by-step for you don't get lost in the procedure!
Glad you came back to the green side of the force! LOL
Help!

I am having the same problem and I am getting all the way to the Android logo screen but when I hit the Volume Up and Down at the same time nothing is happening. Help please!
So I've had my atrix unlocked for some time and have had Epinter's android 4.2.1 running on it smoothly. One day I tried to turn it on and it would only go to the boot logo screen (Motorola for stock) and i cant enter fastboot by using the volume keys. Further, the status light never lights up. This may have happened about a week after installing winterboard (port from iOS) probably a dumb choice, but.
can anyone advise if this is bricked, or a way i can get into fastboot and wipe the thing? any advice is appreciated
no input?! I just read somewhere i may be get it into AP fastboot by holding down both volume keys and power button. would love to get this phone working again!

So if you read something, why haven't you taken the initiative to try it out?
I have. And no luck. just says unlocked and will not toggle through options (fastboot etc). I included it in the post so it wasnt a lame 'bump' post. but thanks for your lame bump post.

Just so we are sure, you were holding down the 'Vol down' key while simultaneously pressing the 'Power' button and the text 'Fastboot' didn't show up, is that right?
Also, did the phone have CWM installed?
Yes. clockwork is installed. Yes I held volume down and power.
If you notice when you cold boot your phone a status light appears before the splash screen, and then turns off. Mine.. Doesnt ever turn on.

^ Unfortunately, that does not sound good at all. Did you have the 'fastboot' options (and the other menu items) enabled before? Would you happen to know exactly what made it go away? Because without that support, there's very little you can do.
You could try charging the battery separately, but I'm not so sure. We might need to know what was done/flashed to get into this state.
Press power + volume up, does it do something?
yes I previously had the option to go into fastboot and the other options (bypass motoblur etc) neither volume up nor volume down get me to the other options - it only stays at saying 'unlocked'.
Maybe the volume keys are broken?
I did install Winterboard by Saurik and that may have caused this problem.
I have used a different battery/charged the battery separately and still nothing.
