I read, thread after thread, where people said that SenseUI was a huge slowdown for the benchmarks (Quadrant, NeoMark, etc) and that once the 3VO was rooted, it would be as fast as the Galaxy SII.
Now the root process is out and there are scripts to remove Sense. So, did the phone speed up at all or is the dual core Snapdragon just slow?
I'm past my 30 days, but I have had numerous issues with my phone. I am either going to swap it, or ask to just return it. Since the phone has this many issues, they usually will not care that I am at 33 days.
Anyway, I love HTC phones because of the hacking community, I loved my EVO4G and I like to think that the 3VO will get better with custom ROMs and kernels. But, if removing SenseUI and having root hasn't really improved performance, I may just skip this version and wait for the next EVO.
I don't care if it is as fast as the SGSII. I just want to see a good improvement.

After I disabled almost everything htc and sense related possible. I did see a significant increase in the browser performance. That's just something I noticed.

I understand that. Yet, that is mostly when you are comparing two different phones. When using just a single phone, they can be a great tool for measuring performance changes.

Great to hear. Is this just with the Android browser or also with, say, Dolphin?
I can't imagine what you consider fast. In my experience Samsung's phones always fall behind HTC in user experience speed, but do well with 3d acceleration

You go from saying it wasnt as fast.. to saying it had a bunch of issues to saying it wasn't fast enough again.
Do you honestly think the SG2 is going to be even noticeably faster without first watching a video of the 2 phones side by side?
No. I guarantee you wouldn't. But since you see a video of the SG2 loading 100th of a second faster....than gee whiz is this thing an abacus or what!

Even removing a lot of sense stuff all the sense framework is still there. Sense won't fully be removed until there's a cm7/aosp build out, which will take a little while.
Not to mention someone is gonna have a LOT of work to get 3d to work with aosp source.I'm guessing a lot won't care about that(I don't), but some will. I'm gonna start messing around with some.aosp stuff this weekend.
sense or not, rooted or not. This phone is still fast. Faster than my og evo i know that. If i want to appreciate my e3d and its speed, all i need to do is grab my niece phone (my old evo which i gave to her).
You can wait for a senseless rom, but dont forget that sense gives you a lot of convenient apps within. Any rom that i flash will be a sense rom on my e3d.
Wait until there are some custom kernels available for this phone.
I've been hearing that the second core acts more like a failover than a true dual core, where if the first core is maxed, then it can take threads make a difference. I'm sure every custom kernel will make use of it in more of a multithreaded manner, and then you might see some big improvements in both benchmarks and real world use.
Also, I'm eagerly awaiting SBC. On the 4VO with netarchy's SBC kernel, I could get 36 hours out of a charge if I wanted to. On this 4VO, I'm lucky if I get 6 with the same usage pattern.
I'd say the sweet spot for 4VO development came 7 or 8 months after release. It will take some time for the 3VO to get to that level, but it will.
On a side note, now that root is out of the bag, I'd like to personally extend my middle finger in HTC's direction. Shame on you for making it this difficult and opaque. Shame on you for having two faces.
Y does it matter if ur phone is faster than another there is always gonna be a faster phone an Samsung does a great job with the software on there phones it has Hardware acceleration in browser so browser wise it won't be faster an Samsung is just better honestly hardware wise :-/ but yea 3VO is still fast period

The SGSII is only brought into the equation because of the XDA forums. The phone is faster, yes. But, I am not going to get a Samsung phone. I only bring it up because it seems to be the "new benchmark" of phone performance.
My daughter has the Samsung Epic 4G. It has lag in some areas that my EVO4G never had. Although, it can do some serious graphics. So, I agree with you.

Ummm.. No. Reread the OP. I said that I've read that SenseUI was bogging down the phone and that I've read people saying that without it, the EVO3D will be just as fast. I then talk about my issues with the phone, and the options that I have. I then state that I care only to see an improvement in speed.
With my EVO4G, I ran CM7. I am looking at running it again and would like the best phone for CM7. I am not getting a SGSII, but I am looking at the Photon 4G.

Thanks. I get a lot of lag during browsing and I mostly use Wifi. Some pages go fast, while others take forever. Although, most of my apps use the default browser, Miren and Dolphin are the two I select the most.

Awesome info! Thank you. I don't know much about SenseUI and how deeply it is integrated. I wouldn't mind poking around with some AOSP myself.
I tried getting CM7 downloaded once. I went to the page with the source code and got lost in all of the forks. There were so many different repositories, I didn't know which to look at.
If you can shoot me a PM with some of the locations your pulling, I would be more than happy to give you a hand. I work as a developer, but have been on the same code base for the last 4 years. I've been wanting to play with Android for a while. I work mostly with Java, but I also do a little C and C#.

I do like a lot of the new features, but the weather app FCs on me a lot. I have also had it maxing my CPU quite a bit. I put an app on my phone called Watchdog, and it is alerting me when it gets over 40% now, so I can kill it.
I find that the swipe sensitivity is too high for switching home screens. A quick flick and the screens start spinning. I also get graphical screw-ups on the icons and widgets. I have also had the phone hang up for 30 - 45 seconds (estimated) when leaving an application. I am guessing it has to do with SenseUI refreshing.
I loved SenseUI on my EVO4G. I am not sure I am loving it on the 3VO. I wanted to because there are so many different ways to tweak it now. Although, I did get bored of Sense after a while and liked having all the different download options after moving to CM7.
Maybe there will be an optimized SenseUI ROM that I will like.

Ha! All kidding aside though. You did remind me of one of the features I liked about the EVO3D. It has both aGPS and GPS.
--------------------------------------------------------------
To everyone:
I guess those of you who are HTC fans or Samsung haters want to read more into this than it really is.
It really is simply that I am having issues with my 3VO. I can either return it and get a different phone or get another 3VO. If I get another 3VO, I'm glued to it for the next 11 months. That is, of course, unless they change Premier again.
I am just hoping that the performance improves with the root. Many of you are happy with its performance. I'm not. Maybe the other issues are causing the performance issues. Maybe they aren't. But, if I switch it out for another 3VO, I am stuck with it.
So, I thought I would ask the question in a forum of users, hackers and developers.
One thing I will have to admit, the ROM developers are running at full speed!
Anyway, a quick update. I went to the store and all they would do is reset my phone. This is after I told them I already reset it twice. So, I have to wait a few days and go back. Still having all of my issues.

I have been kicking around getting the Atrix as my first Android cause I love my friends HTC Incredible so much but I am on AT&T so the Atrix looks like a good one to me, but I am just wondering if this phone has any bugs that need to be worked out as far as software or hardware goes? Thanks
The bugs on the ATRIX is due to MOTOBLUR. You can set the ATRIX free if you root and unlock it

My experience with the Atrix.
I've had the phone for 3 days. Overall it's an amazing device. However, since I've had it the main issue has been reboots&crashes(my phone is not rooted). The funny thing is when I'm using it, it has never rebooted or crashed, but when it's idle it tends to crash frequently(about 10 times per day). As of now, I'm still trying to figure out what's causing this. So far from what I've found on a few android forums suggests that the problem only exists on some devices. There are some Atrix phones that don't have the rebooting problem at all.

Oh, okay so it's kind of like a Volkswagen where one is great and the other is junk? Ha ha just playin. But I take it that this is not really a common problem with this phone but you just got unlucky, and maybe another handful of people?
Or maybe like Mr flo said up above that it's all because of Motoblur?
Imo wait till October or November. There will be a whole new line up of phones coming out. The Atrix is epic but there will be better in the new future.

Overall it's a solid phone, and almost every iPhone user that made the changeover usually posts that they are happy they left the iPhone for the Atrix.
In the end you are getting a dual-core phone with a 1GB of RAM and a large battery.
Plus this phone just got the BL unlocked, so that means you will have CM7 and Ice Cream Sandwich in some form (possibly even official)...

"future proof" makes me happy I just realized that I just made 10 posts! Ha ha!! I'm FREE!! Now it's time for me to go into the DEVELOPMENT THREAD and cause some real trouble, ha ha.
i have had mine for about 3 days, no reboots and whatnot. I am liking the way the phone feels and works. calls are clear via bluetooth speakerphone and the regular earpiece.
ive ditched the default messaging app for chomp sms(its basically bitesms but better and smoother in alot of ways, same dev team if im not mistaken). and im not using the default launcher anymore, launcher pro seems smoother.
anyway hardwarewise the phone is awesome, even with the motoblur on it in a nonrooted oem rom. with that said i plan to root and try out some different roms in the near future

Thanks a lot.
This is my first android phone and I love it! I've already rooted and unlocked it. I've flashed several ROM's already and have had excellent results. There have been a few reboots and connection issues but nothing to seriously complain about. My current ROM has taken care of all that and I'm getting over 30 hours of battery life without changing anything. I don't know about "future proof" with LTE coming but it will be tough to find a better phone
I have 2 in my household.
The wife's is as stock as stock can be and it is rock solid. Never had an issue with the phone. No force closes, no issues, just a solid work beast. Nearly, only nearly mind, rivals a Berry for battery life.
Mine on the other hand has gone through the wars a bit as regards reliability BUT all of those issues were my fault not the phone.
I am like most of those posting here in that I do like to play and tinker with ROMs, apps and anything else we can think of playing with. The upside is that after that learning curve I have a phone that is fantastically quick, great battery life and not really going to be left wanting for much over the next year or two as regards hardware.
Same as most android's really it is what you make of it. If you want a solid work beast, it can do that. If you want to play, you can do that.
Importantly though is that the initial learning curve has been gone through, mostly on this great forum, so if you want to root, mod, unlock the bootloader and whatever else may come make sure you research it.
There is only one rule really. If you unlock the bootloader and use the official AT&T Gingerbread update NEVER go back to Froyo. Remember that and now it is quite hard to mess up.
I know I have tried !
Wow, thanks a lot guys... I think this will be my first Android after reading what you all have said about this phone. Thanks for taking the time to give me your opinions, and to the guy that hates the phone... Dude I'm really sorry you got a dud.

Alright, so this phone needs some serious consideration. Of Course, this phone probably didn't fly as much as it was promoted, I still guess its promotion was a little weaker than I expected.
I have been using Atrix since its launch. About 8 months and never had any issues with my phone.
Phone durability - Rock Solid, even though you can feel the plastic all around, but the phone is light in weight, and it still is very sturdy. Have dropped it a few times(Of course with a cover on top - so no scratches) but even after those many drops, phone is absolutely fine.
Screen - First qHD display. Truly amazing. I feel it better than iPhone's retina display, trust me when I say it, have used iphone 4 and exchanged it with Atrix.
Call Quality - SubPar. No noise issues. Whenever I receive a call, the person on the other end never complained.
Speakers - Loud and clear enough. Even when I put phone on speaker while driving, it is just clear. Loud enough to fill my car with voice easily.
Biggest Bonus - Unlocked Bootloader. Means, this phone is now free. With lots of Devs now coming up with new ROM's, and CM7 on its way, I have heard that MiUI is also coming to Atrix in near future, it is just an amazing feeling that how much customization is available for the phone, with Devs spending days and hours, it is just truly phenomenal.
Processor - with Dual Core 1GHz processor, this phone has got the raw power to beat up the competition. I feel, phone is fast enough to give solid competition to the upcoming new android variations, upcoming iphone and so on. As someone earlier said, it is a future proof phone, not only because it has got the Dual Core processor, but because it has got Dual Core processor, even today, there are many phones which still get released with 1GHz Single Core, I think for next couple of years 1GHz Dual Core processing speed is safe from getting extinct. Also, the fact that Atrix can now be OverClocked to 1.3GHz, man you should see this phone, just totally flying with that much power.
Camera - As promised by Motorola earlier at the time of launch, with GingerBread, phone will be able to do 1080p, and yes it does it. What else would we need?
Another Bonus - Finger Print Scanner. Just unique by itself. No more words needed to explain what it is.
Last but not Least, Battery - Solid. Usually, I have always seen people be able to get around atleast a day out of the Atrix battery easily. Now with different applications available to help us save the battery, it is even easier to get more out of it.
Webtop Dock etc... - Personally I don't use any other accessories for Atrix, so no idea, but have heard they all are also similarly amazing.
If I missed out on anything, I am pretty sure, I have got something good to say about it, as long as it is related to (M)Atrix.
If you got the phone, you should be happy. If you are thinking of getting one, go for it. If you dislike it, it is your personal choice and I am sure people will respect it.
Cheers!!!
Well Guy's!! I took your suggestion (besides that one guy) and I got the Atrix! Thank you thank you!!! I love this phone already. I have the bootloader unlocked, rooted, clockwork recovery, and the Alien ROM installed. Awesome phone, thanks so much for you help. After having the iPhone and then switching to this phone, there are so many things and so many ways to customize this phone it's insane. I almost don't know where to begin. See ya out on the forums!
I wouldn't have gone with the atrix personally. I had one. Froze a lot, soft rebooted A LOT, screen was not accurate to touch and would become unresponsive at times, not to mention it was SLOW(for being a dual core tegra phone). Like others say though, its mostly personal preference. I may have also had a bad one. I've owned many androids and I personally rate the atrix worse than a poopy aria.... its on the bottom of my list. I got my nexus s now and have never been more pleased.

Ok I got my Gnote yesterday at BestBuy(upgraded from my skyrocket). When I got home to play with it it seemed to drag a$$ and was pretty choppy, almost like it was pushing it limits on memory or something. I restarted the phone but no help. Next I downloaded golauncher thinking it would help but no luck.
I’ve also noticed that whenever I select wallpaper it zooms all the way in on the pic (which looks like crap) and it doesn’t scroll. I’ve tried everything. Help me XDA
I hope there’s a simple fix for all these issues my phone is having. My skyrocket was flawless. Hell my infuse don’t seem too bad now.
Video quality isn’t that great either. What gives Samsung?????
I was able to get better wallpaper using zedge on the market. It doesnt zoom in like selecting from folder.

Actually read other reviews before inferring that all notes have performance comparable to yours - mine is hardcore fast. No lag, no stutters, no nothing but performance. Download some appstore apps to monitor background processes and see if there is a rogue something running. That, or you may have a faulty device.
Coming from an Atrix, SGS2, Skyrocket, Droid Razr, and International Galaxy Note this is the smoothest phone I've ever owned. Only issue I have is getting calendar to sync with Google calendars.

Not entirely sure why either...I tried a few launcher none make it better and some make it worse.
grrr...
what kind of Lag. I have only Seen It while Using a Launcher. It actually Is JUST as Smooth as my Skyrocket when right next to it .

Same here. very dissapointed. Its slower than my infuse, but then my infuse is running a custom rom.
Worst example by far is the market. load it up and scroll up and down, soooo choppy and laggy. starting to think I might have made a mistake not getting the international. I'm really surprized.
I'm sure once I overclock it and toss launcher pro on it I will be happier, I'm just really surprized that I have to do that.

Really strange. I am completely stock right now with all the bloat still installed, microbes live wallpaper, and I just tried this in the market and get no lag whatsoever.
I went to the AT&T store and the Note was laggy. I killed background tasks, eliminated widgets, removed bloatware... nothing
I really like the screen size + google maps navigation but I'm not good at rooting so I've gotta see if this lag stuff continues on stock before taking the plunge.
Hmm :/ I'll take a video of it tomorrow. All power saving options are off, nothing much running in the background. Maybe I should take it into an ATT store and compare it side by side to the ones on display.
I'm glad most others aren't having this problem, that means its something that can get fixed or replaced rather than just being an underpowered processor for the resolution of the screen.
Its a new device with a new processor... Its funny to me how much people are seriously complaining and stressing about "lag". You guys do know the international one had a bunch of "lag" when it came out right? Its a new device that will see updates to its system that help improve UI. **** if you arent willing to get your hands dirty and root/freeze apps/rom the thing, what are you doing on a developers site?? Its not the phones problem, its your unreasonable expectations. Ask international note owners from day 1 if they had "lag". How many *****y My PHONE IS LAGGING threads do we need? If you hate it and arent willing to go through the process of improving it yourself, return it and wait a few months.

^Somebody needs to get laid STAT!
I'm absolutely willing to do all of that, and I will, but going from a captivate, to an infuse, to this, and having it be the slowest out of the box when the other two were single core just strikes me as not right. And with others stating that they don't have this issue, makes me think there must be something going on here. Before I mask the problem with the OC kernel and a new launcher I'd rather know that there isn't something wrong with my specific note.
Glad the lag doesn't bother you

And I don't think it's related to the SoC. I think it might be more related to Sense, or HTC in general. The phone is fast, but there's some situations where it's very slow. Could be ICS too, I'm not sure. I notice that when switching between apps, or if I go a while without cleaning out open apps, I get a lot of lag. This is a concern because it never happened with my E4GT (I never bothered closing apps on that phone unless they were using GPS or something, and I HAD to).
Also (and here's one I'm sure everyone can try) when I'm looking at a photo in the gallery, and I click the "share" button, it takes 3-4 full seconds before the menu finally pops up. Is this normal? Again, never happened on my old phone. I might just be grasping for straws here, but it's the little things that bug me.
I'm running ViperROM 1.2.1 (I believe), and I've done the dual-core enhancement. I'm also running Nova PRIME.
Anyone else notice these kinds of annoying things?
I think it is sense/htc. Although the current cm9 is still what I'd consider in alpha stage, look at the rom zip, ~200MB vs close to 600MB for the other roms floating around. Add maybe 50-80MB to the cm9 for gapps, and you're still less than half of stock. All that bloatware has to run somehow. I think as time goes on, it'll be determined exactly what can safely be stripped away from sense to reduce bloat. Officially, the phone is hardly a week old, unofficial a bit over 2 weeks. Give it a month or two.
True. Good to know I'm not the only one
I'm actually pleasantly surprised at how popular this phone is with the dev community. I mean, root was available before it was in the hands of the masses, lol.
Can't wait for CM9! Ran CM7 on my OG EVo and LOVED IT! I just hope getting LTE to work on CM9 isn't as painful as getting Wimax to work on CM7
Given how much I used wimax with the old evo, if CM should comeout without functioning LTE, i'll still switch. By that time, LTE should be rolled out in chicago in masses, and hopefully 3g performance will be what it should be (1-1.5mbps down /1mbps up). For what I do, that's more than enough bw.
I already use different third party apps for practically every fundamental function of the phone. Converting from sense to something else will be real easy this time. With the old evo much time was spent trying different apps out to figure out what works best or gives a good user experience.
It would be nice if sense camera functionality was ported over in full. One thing htc did get right with the phone was the camera and the app.
Try a different launcher like Nova Launcher and see if it's still slow.... Maybe try a different rom.
I too have noticed slowdowns when using the phone after some time....

Ehhh, it's hit or miss for me. I've taken some very nice shots, but honestly the majority of my low-light shots have looked like absolute crap. The app's native AUTO settings are pretty bad for low-light shooting. Even the presets aren't that good. I have to manually adjust the expose and contrast to get anything remotely good. Daylight shots, however, are absolutely brilliant.
I have the paid version of CameraZOOM FX, but I don't think it plays very well with this camera. The exposure and color levels look good in low-light shots, but the pictures come out very out-of-focus for me. Not sure what that's related to.
But yeah to the other member who mentioned it, I'm using Nova Prime and it made my experience a whole lot better over the Sense launcher. Still not where I want it to be, though
Either way, very happy with the device. Screen is beautiful and the device itself is sexy as hell.
Don't complain if you're using a rom. Roms are not perfect. Not the phone fault. This should be put in that rom's thread

Hmm that really sucks... I get lag too and it's kinda annoying.... Looks like we'll have to wait for the devs to fix this problem or an update from HTC.
Memory management is much too aggressive with HTC's factory settings. Apps get bumped out of memory too easily. I had the same issue. I suggest you try this -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681183
My device (I'm loathe to call it a phone, it's SO much MORE... ) runs much better with Mr. V's mod - and I still get great battery life.
EDIT: Don't forget to nandroid first!

I have to say I don't think it's just the memory management problem. In fact, I wish there were less "management" and more "memory". In today's world of ICS, large screens, memory-hogging GPUs, and background apps, most Android phones don't have enough memory to run all the apps we would like to have. Especially for power users.
Since the OP was using ViperROM, he/she already has the memory optimizations you pointed suggested. As do I, although, I placed them there manually on Stock. Memory management will only get you so far. I still get quite a bit of performance hits when switching apps. Worse than that though, I get apps that have been killed in the BG and thus didn't fully save state so when I go back to them, I've lost the work I've done. Truly annoying.
HTC (and others) need to get a better imagination in terms of future-proofing (or even now-proofing) their products. I bought the LTEvo based on timing (contract renewal), reviews and loyalty for HTC (been on it since the G1). I can only assume that the reviewers didn't put on many apps when they reviewed the product.
Every time I've upgraded, I've been unhappy with the amount of space available - particularly RAM since the SDcard is upgrade-able. 1GB was "ok" in the GB- era. I'm looking forward to my next upgrade when HTC will (finally) get it right ... I hope.
@ailima -
You're right. I must have been running on fumes when I read the OP.
I tried ViperROM, but went back to stock. I noticed lag after awhile.
On my OG EVO, if I wasn't running CM7.x, I'd either have MikG or Tommy Tomatoes Classic. Both odexed ROMs. IIRC, Aamikam has said that odexed performs better, and I believe him. Also, my experience bears this out. Stock with the dual-core ultimate mod is running way better for me than stock without.
Hello folks, I am no stranger to HTC land but am currently using an Epic 4g touch. After the terrible amount of lag I experienced on my Evo 3D I swore to never go back to HTC again because of sense. I am an exteme speed demon, lag in the UI and basic phone functions make me go crazy, I just can't take it.
I have played with a few floor models and they seem nice. I must ask, after using the phone for a period of time and using custom roms, what's the verdict on this phone? Should I get this instead of the Galaxy S 3? Please note, lag is my biggest concern.
I think most people agree sense is better than touchwiz. So far this phone is great being stock, but if you flash custom roms the phone is even better and thats the key in any phone so far.. Custom roms fix the issues carriers put in there. I say get the phone, build quality is amazing
Why dont you make up your own mind and stop posting things like this on a device specific forum. Questions like "is device A, better than device B" usually end up in piss matches.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I'm not so much trying to start a pissing match, rather I'm asking you folks if after a month or so of usage if you have noticed lag or slowdowns. As touchwiz is much less RAM consuming than Sense is, I wanted to know as a speed purist if Sense bogs down this phone like it has in my previous HTC experience.

Have you flashed any ICS roms on your 3d? If you have you will quickly notice
how much more efficient sense runs on ICS. Now imagine running sense on a much better chip. Hope that answers your question. Case close.
hes right.. sense runs better on ICS for some reason, get the phone
I don't mean to sound harsh, but normally (because tons of people have been incredibly happy with their phones) I would say yes, get the phone, you won't be sorry. However, reading your OP, I get the feeling that if you do get the phone, a week later we'll all be seeing yet another "OMG, sense sux! HTC broke multitasking!!!! This phone lags soooooo much!!!!1!" thread. So my advice to you would be no. You will not be satisfied with this phone.
Go with the GS3 -it has 2GB of ram you know...
I've had mine now for a little under 24 hours, rooted within 1 hour of owning, and have flashed 3 roms so far. I can say I love it, best phone I ever owned, came from EVO og. My wife has the iPhone4s, and though she says she loves her phone she did say she was now jealous of my EVO LTE. I think you should at least get it, run through the paces in the two weeks you have to decide. Then go from there.

I've noticed a few petty complaints about the phone, and they are all pointing fingers in the wrong direction. The phone itself is great. It's the software.
The software is crashing my phone more than my og Evo. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. This phone has double the ram of the OG EVO so, it's definitely not the hardware.
Also, Sense has to be the culprit for killing multitasking. There's some ROMS out there that can be flashed on the Evo LTE, that eliminate this problem. Another Sense disappointment.
And last but not least. The look and feel of sense is beginning to look and feel very dated. This is why people are going crazy over dev support, right now.
I'm not a HTC Sense hater, but they definitely need to change it up asap. If I were them I would just put out a, high end pure Google Android device and start from scratch.
Maybe, put a scrolling setting tool bar, that scroll left to right on top of the screen, instead of a drag down bar. Change the flip clock its old and boring now. I had that on my HTC Mogul! It's time to change the game up. And I think it's about that time
Certainly wish it was a bit more polished. Wasn't there something floating around awhile back that they only had 4 months to make sense 4 with ICS?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
i have to agree. sense is not bad, just not as smooth and fast as vanilla android. infact its quite slow so such amazing hardware. i check the forum a few times a day for a working version of cm9 or 10 only to be disapointed everytime.

That may be true. I think I can recall seeing a article about that.
I'm running sense 4 on my 3d, and I have to say that sense 4 is amazing. If you want a change then go with a different phone. I'm not saying that sense doesn't have minor bugs, because it does. But if you're looking for a different look and feel then change it up a bit.
But I like my Sense 4.
I love Sense, although I'm hoping Jelly Bean will make performance and stability improvements, of course. It does crash and restart for me, but rarely. It might be the ROM and apps you've loaded that are causing these issues, along with flashed mods, and so forth. Every time these things are done, increases the chances of destabilizing the platform. This is a part of the game that should be embraced.

That's definitely not out the question. Once you've been loyal to a company since the HTC Mogul, then you may find it just a little bit harder to leave from a hardware standpoint. Like I said Sense isn't bad. It's just buggy and dated.
If Sense is the same during my next upgrade, I'm definitely jumping to another phone. Sad to say.
And yes thanks to this XDA I can change it up a bit. This site has a hand in what a lot of the consumers buy, believe it or not, just because of the hard work of these Devs do to bring longevity to our phones. They spoiled us.
My reasoning now is for the users who don't root. It's a struggle right now.

Yeah, hopefully jelly bean iron some things out.
As far as the crashes, im pretty positive its sense. I have no widgets beside the sense clock and power setting widget. Everything else is minor apps that control some of nothing. My only questionable app is Facebook. That app is so horrible. It does too much and hogs data like crazy. I'm always, clearing my cache on that app. And I won't decide to root, until maybe October.

I happen to love Sense and I am not rooted and never plan to. I like the iconic flip clock and believe it sets HTC apart from all the other androids out there. I do get bored with the "look" of my screens from time to time and change things up with Beautiful Widgets, themes, keyboards and the like. I wish the continuous scroll of the home screens remained (not the carousel) however. At least with Android these phones can be totally customized, which is why I could never be an iPhone user.

I'd have to agree. I got the OG EVO on release day and absolutely loved it. Then came Gingerbread and all the sense reboots. I was hoping with this phone the sense reboots would go away, unfortunately I was wrong. It amazes me with the amount of RAM this phone has, that with very little apps installed, I only have about 200 MBs free. I ended up rooting and flashing CleanROM DE and love this EVO all over again. I just wish I wouldn't have had to root to avoid the HTC Sense reboots. I did try APEX Launcher for a bit, but noticed it would restart as well, though not quite as bad.

I wish I wasn't scared to root as of now. I know there would probably be at least two more updates from HTC are gonna come and I'll wait until then. I was gonna try Apex but thanks for the heads up. I don't use widgets and my apps are all basic, that's why the reboots are kinda bothering me.
The best phone I've ever had or used nonetheless.
I have yet to run into any problems with Sense at all. It's elegant, slimmer than before, and adds features that people from the Windows Mobile days would consider to be basic. (Hello? It's 2012, Google. Where the hell is my T9 dialing?)

I was stock the entire time I had my first Evo LTE. That was for about a month and a half and I didn't have any problems. Got my new Evo yesterday (I had a radio issue that required a replacement) and rooted it because I had to start from scratch anyway. No issues rooted either.
Actually HTC Sense this year looks nice IMO. I really like the way the dock looks. One thing i dont like is the locksceen, as i fee the stock one looks best. There are some thing i wish google would incorporate into the next OS. The way HTC handles adding things to your home screens is MUCH faster than stock aosp. In stock, you have to do it one by one, or at least slowly. On sense, you do it much faster and can even add multiple widgets. Also, if u run out of space sense automatically makes a new homescreen for you. I also like the quicksettings menu (even though HTC took it off i think).
I haven't had one problem since I got the phone on launch day. With sense or anything else.
Love this device!

I like Sense 4.0 a lot; I believe it's the best UI skin out there as far as what comes from the manufacturers. I like the widgets and the unified look and functionality of everything. It's all very polished and professional.
The only problem I have with Sense is in the way it handles multitasking. I would love to be able to pause a game to answer a text or email, and come back to where I was without the game fully reloading. Or keep 2 or 3 browser tabs open without everything reloading when I come back to it from something else. Running Nova and using less widgets helps somewhat, but you lose all the "good stuff" about Sense when you go that route. So I'm patiently waiting for a good ROM that fully addresses the memory management issues while letting Sense run to it's full potential.
I have absolutely no problems with my EVO 4G LTE. If you think Sense is the same thing it's always been, try going back and using a Sense 3 phone, like the EVO 3D. Then you'll see a difference. It's just the luster of a new product has worn off for most people. Really, most of the complaints are over petty stuff. In the end, it's a phone. It plays games well, but if you want something to do more, buy a PS3/XBOX. It plays great quality movies, but if you want something to do more, buy an HDTV. Web browsing is great on this device, but if it's still not your style, buy a laptop. Sure there's a convenience of having it all there, but really, it's time to stop being petty about the small things.
