Just wanted to know how you guys fared with the recent S-OFF process. Just a quick and easy poll to see the results of the process, and to help determine the level of risk involved in going through this process.
I haven't yet done the S-OFF process, but do plan on it in the near future.
Success! no issues, guides were written for noobs to follow.
No issue here although revolutionary stuck at downloading recovery but cancelled out and.flash twrp no problem.
I'm going to start cooking now.

Completely painless. Even the auto call to Sprint.
Recovery didn't flash for me, but I wanted to install TWRP anyway so I flashed it through HBOOT.

I'm pretty new at this, but I thought it was a piece of cake. Everything went smoothly. The only problem was the error 16 when I tried to make a call. I'll bet Sprint is getting tons of calls tonight on that one lol.
Clockwork didn't flash. But s off took and flashing twrp worked fine.
Rooted and got titanium working too.
An epic experience of epic epicness.

Revolutionary worked great!, but error 16 sucked and so did figuring out I needed the fixed su.
I'm fairly new to the 3vo but not new to s-off. I'm a little late to the party but has there been any mention about going back to s-on in case we need to take back to sprint for exchanges and what not??? for example like a .img file??? I wanna do it so bad but don't wanna be stuck without being able to go back stock... Apologize for going off-topic...
Has anyone fixed error 16?

If you have it, when you make a call it will go right to Sprint and they will fix it. Very simple.

I don't have 4g in my area and can't test it but is everyone else's 4g working fine without anything special
Got everything done in under 10 minutes. Process ran smooth and nothing really unexpected. The only snag I had was installing the superuser apk from the market, but I just used the fixed version I got on here and everything runs good now.
BTW...just restored my angry birds data using Titanium Backup. All those hours playing weren't wasted afterall!
I didn't have any issues but I do have a question, when I run ADB Shell from the command line I get $ instead of #, is there something I forgot to do or is this the normal state of this root method at this point? Root apps work, CWM recovery is installed, Superuser app is installed, can't seem to access anything or do much from the command line.

so i tried to flash the full rooted ruu rom via hboot, i had it sitting on my table with the batt door off and knocked it on the floor ( accident ofcourse ) and the batt came out halfway during the process so now it goes into the htc screen then blank htc screen then blank and i cant get into cwr so my question is can i salvage it or am i f**ked?
Have you tried hbooting to recovery? Volume up and power down when the phone boots up.
cant keep it in cwr long enough to do anything, keeps rebooting and when it does go into cwr it says something like cant mount cache i think

+1. That's exactly what would have worked. I know it's too late for the lad now, but for future users...
If you're ever stuck in a boot-loop and can't hboot into recovery, you'll need to copy and past the PGIMG05.ZIP file onto the root of your SD Card. This will be about a 200-400 meg file and would usually be a stock rooted RUU or stock signature RUU. After it's on the root of your SD, make sure it's the only PGIMG05.zip file on there! Then start the phone by holding down power + volume up. This will force the phone to hboot the PGIMG05 file which will get you past the boot-loop.
For some it's a good idea to have insurance too.
You can get a replacement minus the deductible if you "lose" your phone.
Just make certain you call VZW as soon as you lose it.
I don't suggest selling the phone for parts and saying it's lost, but I'm sure others have done this to cover their deductible.
Those without insurance...I have heard people have had great success with warranty replacement when using over the phone support when the phone doesn't boot or bootloops.
Since you send the phone back to VZW by mail, their replacement standards are much lower than dealing with their retail and face to face support.

I'm new to this, just rooted my thunderbolt the week before last (have rooted a total of 4 phones though since and created my own bootimage with sound and everything! lol!), and that's what came to mind when I read the original post but I didn't "know" for sure. Thanks for confirming it. This stuff is fascinating to me. I like to understand what is going on. I'd like to someday write my own rom. So I rooted my EVO 3D with unrEVOked, and I noticed some problems, so I went back to 100% complete stock. So after a couple of days, I started getting SMS errors and radio interfearances. Well I got it fixed a while ago, but it also lagged once in a while when I'm typing a message, sometimes scrolling through screens, when I make my phone go to sleep, it like sleeps then wakes up right away, but now it's been like around two weeks, and I've been having a little more lag when I'm typing a message, or making the phone go to sleep, so I have to keep restarting the phone to make it run smooth and fast. I updated the phone already, and idk if its the update or the root that messed up the phone, but if anyone knows HOW this happened, and how I can get rid of this lag, then PLEASE help me out, cause this lag is pissing me off. Thanks.
Root your phone again and get rid of that sprint crap...problem solved..hehe

But I updated my phone to the latest version. Can I still root it?
U can through HTC but u can't flash very much..just 2.3.4 stuff...do u have s-on or s-off?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Oh, well then how do I root it again? Cause I mean the lag pisses me off.
Go to htcdev.com and unlock your phone then find the Su zip in the dev section, then flash a recovery either twrp or cwm then u should be good...I'm assuming you have s-on correct?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Oh alrite then, nd yes I do.
Wait, and another thing, can I still root if I have 2.3.4??
Then yeah follow the directions from HTC then do the rest and flash 2.3.4 roms u won't be able to flash kernels yet but u will soon..should find some good roms from the devs
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
As long as u flash the Su zip then you will b rooted and flash a recovery I prefer twrp...go to the development section and there will b a walkthrough
For ya...
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
After you flash a recovery like twrp make sure you wipe everything including cache and the complete wipe of the phone before flashing any ROM, I think that's why your experiencing lag because you flashed over the stock ROM when you should of wiped everything before flashing.

Well, most people that first come here don't know what they are doing. I think what you meant to say is, if you don't even know where or how to find a guide on rooting and flashing then before attempting anything, there is one thing you should do first. READ!!!! Read the stickies in the dev forum. Read the links in the stickies in the dev forum. Use Google to find as much info on the internet as you can before attempting anything!!! Please, for your own good read as much as you can. We cannot hold your hand through it. You need to be able to do this on your own. Read until you become familiar with the terminology. Then if you still don't understand come back here and ask. If you do that we will understand your questions better and you will understand the answers better. We all started out knowing nothing about this. I read on these forums for 2 years before posting anything. I am by no means a professional, but I do understand how to search for and find the answers to my questions.
well i finnaly got sick of being throttled by t-mobile. so i decided to go out and buy myself an evo 3d. seeing as how it was the same thing as my htc sensation for the most part. got it home, come to find out some stupid update that i didnt even do prevent me from using the revolutionary method to get s-off. soo i went to the htc site and found out how to unlock the bootloader. after about 2 hours of bull ****ting. and like 3 hours of just downloads (thanks to t mobile for throttled data) i got that. but s is still not off. wtf mates?! if there is any way to get s-off like i had on my sensation let me know please!!
thanks, and hope to make friends with the evo 3d peps like i did the sensation, and vibrant peps!
koz
Sorry, man.
You won't be able to get S-off after using the HTC ethod BUT!, big BUT! :
You can still accomplish everything you'd want to, root-wise.
There are workarounds for everything, that work.
So you'll still be able to Flash a custom Rom, a kernel, a Radio, with full root...
You just have to do a couple of more simple steps and use the bootloader for a couple things. There are threads in the Dev section that can walk you through it. (edit: like this one, lol:http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...Recovery + Root + Flash Ur Ass Off! [9.11.11]
So basically the S-on you see isn't really that "on" as you might've initially thought.
That's a good thing, man.
LIKES:
drinking water, smoking flower, and avoiding the giant.
yeah.
I'd rather not use the htc method at all. I liked the ability to just flash custom roms or kernels from my phone and not have to be attached to the computer.
HTCs method allows things to be done. Its just not a great way of doing it.
I'm hoping that alpharevx and unrevoked are continuing to work on updates to the revolutionary tool they released earlier this year.
yea true that. im tempted to do an insurance claim on it. just get a new one and start over
how would you go about doing an insurance claim?

I don't understand why people can't just wait on root. Maybe I never used root to its full potential but jeez, it ain't something we can't be without. Root Will come for ur version of hboot just like it did for all of us.
Not a personal attack on u op it is just a general opinion of mine. I waited with no problems from launch day to get root. Then two-three weeks after teamwin came out just to watch for bugs. It's nice to have all the customized roms and all but really what does it do for u other than free tether.

You clearly have absolutely no idea on the capabilities of a rooted phone. Don't fill this guys head with your misguided opinion.
I personally feel they will release and updated version of Revolutionary . The only reason I say this is mainly due to two factors . One I have seen numerous posts regarding the HTC method not working all the time and having to RUU the phone back just for the damn thing will work . Second more and more phones are now showing up with 1.50 Hboot on them . 1.30 and 1.40 is now quickly becoming a thing of the past . Just like with unrevoked an eventual exploit will be found and hopefully Revolutionary will update accordingly . Hopefully .

The real payoff is when a new version of android is released! And you get to use it for months before unrooted people!
I love root access to death and thoroughly enjoy tweaking my phone. But from launch day to when revolutionary hit I was forced to be stock. This was the first phone that I've had/used that was absolutely fine stock. It's fast, smooth, kick ass battery and everything worked great(GPS etc).

it's weird that your phone came with such an old firmware version installed...did it ever try to run any OTA upgrades?

Incredible to TBolt
Hey Guys -
Got and rooted my TBolt on Thu 1/5.
It came w/ same (older?) software as Donny.
For grins, intellectual curiosity mostly, I chose to d/l and install OTA's, then root. When following the step-by-step guides @ the links below, easy as pie.
downgrade
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunderbolt-development/7218-how-downgrade-get-s-off-after-updating-latest-ota-2-11-605-9-a.html
then this to S-OFF, Recovery, and Superuser
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thundebolt-hacking-guides/5259-rs-approved-revolutionary-5-minutes-less-root-without-data-loss.html
Only oddity was when running the exploit it seemed to hang on "Waiting for Device". I poked around a couple forums for advice, and tried toggling USB Debugging and off it went.
Running CM 7.1.1 - just like on Incredible - like this new device quite a bit!
Happy to help others via PM if they may have questions.
Kind regards.

OK, apparently I can't post in the development forums cuz I usually find my info via searches and don't need to post. I can't find an answer to my question or a solution, so I am posting here.
I have AOKP installed and then did Lazypanda. Well, now that Lazypanda ran it prompts Hands-free activation. The problem is I get the com.android.phone FC and that kills the activation, and I can't get it to run. *#*#4636#*#* works but I don't know if that will help me. I need a way to get Hands-Free Activation to run AFTER boot process is complete.
Mahalo in advance!
Flash a sense based rom for it to connect to the network. The force close at start up is normal for the cm based stuff.

I was hoping to avoid reflashing.
U know that to avoid issues like this u were supposed to use lazypanda s-off w/ a stock sense rom?
Just flash a sense rom and activate your phone man, c'mon.
Is there a choice to do activation from the settings menu? That would be the easiest choice
Or nandroid, and flash a sense rom. It will only take 10 minutes.
Edit: actually you probably need to end up on the phone with sprint after lazy panda so you need to be on a sense rom for the dialer codes to work properly. Even if your phone does hands free on aokp you probably still won't be able to make a call without their help.
Edit 2 : ninja ^^^

It says right on the first page that you need to be on the stock rom. End of story. Just follow the instructions that way you don't mess up your phone.
I know, I am being lazy.
You could have been done by now and back up and running
Bandwidth is on premium, until LTE is up, here at my place. Between all the games and video streams to the tv, < 3Mbps gets taken up fast. I have to wait until everyone is asleep before I can do any real downloads.
