[Q] Latest Gmail update - unread mail count widget - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having issues with a widget I use (SMS Unread count) to give me an unread gmail count with the latest gmail update.
Anyone else seeing the same problem with same/similar widget?
Anyone know of a widget that works with the latest update?
Thanks

I have the same problem and I think this is attributable to google/gmail itself.
The API that widgets (like SMS-Unread-Count, ADW Launcher, LaucherPro, etc ... ) use to access your Gmail messages (for the Gmail widgets and the Gmail dock notifications, etc ...) was removed in the current version of the Gmail app for Android 2.2 and higher.
See here for example: http://www.launcherpro.com/2011/07/09/upcoming-changes-to-gmail-app/
I might be wrong ... but you may have to wait for widget devs to fix this or for google to release a new interface for app devs to work with.
In the meantime most stock apps (I know they tend to be hideous) should work.
ONE MORE THING ....
If you are really desperate for an unread count and feel like playing around a bit you should get the Tasker app from the market. It has built in support for the K9mail app and allows you to create your own counters and widgets based on K9mail's state. You can still use your gmail app as usual but will need K9email running in the background (just turn off all of K9mails notification and popups ... all you need is Tasker to interpret the state). The cool thing is you can create much prettier counters than say SMS-Unread-Count. Moreover the Tasker app is a very useful tool to have beyond creating pretty counters.
I haven't tested this but this approach should still work. Let us know if not.
A good place to get you up to speed and help you set it up can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944981/

[APK] HTC Notes & Tasks Widgets

I can't find these widgets on htc hub, get more widgets, or the market so here you guys are. The resolution is messed up a little bit but its hardly noticeable
Just install like you normally would. Drag onto sdcard and install, download from your phone and install, or adb install
I am really disappointed that these aren't available for the 3D. I use the tasks notepad almost daily... the HTC hub is kinda pointless IMO... very limited.
ya me too, the task widget is soo convenient and useful, i dont understand why they didnt include it.
they got replaced wit da agenda widget..lol..garbage...
Anyone else scared of the permissions you have to give these apps?
example:
*Your personal information - add or modify calendar events and send email to guests, read Browser's history and bookmarks, read calendar events, read contact data, write Browser's history and bookmarks, write contact data
*Services that cost you money - directly call phone numbers, send SMS messages
*Your messages - com.android.email.permission.READ_ATTACHMENT, edit SMS or MMS, read SMS or MMS, receive MMS, receive SMS
*Your Accounts - Google mail, manage the accounts list, use the authentication credentials of an account
*System tools - bluetooth administration, change network connectivity, change Wi-Fi state, change WiMAX state, modify global system settings, prevent phone from sleeping, retrieve running applications, set time zone, write Access Point Name settings, write sync settings
task widget doesnt work on a HTC Sensation

it does, but just doesn't align because of the resolution. Maybe someone can mess around with the .xml files to see if it can be aligned.
Can anyone make it so I can use them on any launcher... I want the notes app for nova launcher

Gmail app & SMS input questions

Hi everyone, used to have a wildfire running CM7 so I have two questions someone maybe able to help with:
1) On the stock gmail app, I don't seem to get automatic nofitcations. It seesm like only manually refreshing inside the app will get it to look for new messgaes. I've turned off auto-sync, but I assumed that it would obey it's ruels of syncing every 30 mins, doesn't seem to look for new mail by itself.
2) When writing text (SMS) messages, my old android phone used to suggest full stops, question marks, commas, etc. after pressing space after a word. It used to automatically capatilize words after full stops, amongst other features. Now all those features are gone. Any ideas?
I'm running sensation ROM, can anyone confirm these features work properely on the stock rom, or suggest any soultions?
The built in GMail app doesn't have that feature. Use the Stock Email app for that.
And what is that Auto Suggestion feature are you talking about in SMS? I'd really like to have something like that.
Regards.

I'm pretty sure the SMS auto suggestion is a feature of android 2.3? So it should be found on pretty much any stock rom (unless it was part of CM7). Also, that's a shame about the gmail app, i guess I'll use the stock e-mail app instead.
Or the K9/Kaiten/Mail Droid/Enhanced Email, how many shall I mention? I don't like any of them anyway
I'm starting to think the word/punctuation suggestions in the messaging app were custom to CM7... I've tried three different roms, and none have had this feature.

[q] I.M. with notification on contact logins

I'm curious to know what instant messengers other people are using.
Currently I'm using trillian, and I like it, however I'd like the option to get a notification when certain contacts login (but not every contact). Is there any app that does this?
It would also be usefull if it supported multiple protocols, I'd rather not have multiple i.m. apps running at once.
tried IM+....only other multi client I know of with a decent gui...not sure about individual alerts based on contact
Should try talk.to. Amazingly simple UI and works really well.
https://market.android.com/details?id=to.talk
I forgot to mention, I need to use a messenger that works over data and not sms since I don't have a messaging plan. also I read this comment under the talk.to comments section "Changing the status of all my accounts to a Talk.to promotion without asking is completely unacceptable, and a shame because the app works great."

ICS email notification behavior

Hello everybody,
I updated my GT-P7510 to ICS and noticed an annoying behavior in email-notification. It keeps notifying me of incoming email, even though I read the mail, it notified me of. As this didn't help, I pressed the delete button in "notification", still no change - every several minutes (not in equal intervals) it kept ringing. Has anyone experienced something similar with his/hers GT-P7510? Does anyone have any idea as to why it behaves like that?
Thanx

Same problem here.
Incoming mail setting are double checked, don't know if this is normal behavior....
Not shure if it helps, but i had the problem when i used the app light flow for LED control with ics on my nexus. Everytime my LED started flashing, i read the message, but still the led was flashing afterwards.
The difference in ICS, regarding to the developer of this app, is that ics don't set a flag for noticed notifications. That means regarding to your email client you are using it could be that this client doesn't see an read messangs or interpretes that as still unread.
Or could it simple be that you use a different client for yor mails, besides gmail and the mail is still unread in gmail app?

Personally i use gmail app, which works great, and samsung email app for different accounts.
On samsung mail app, only on one account i face this problem, so i guess has to do with this specific pop mail synchronization and exchange messages server.
Can't say much to this, because i only use gmail respective k9 with imap on my tab. But what i can say so far is, that i don't have this issiue with my configuration. Maybe your hind with pop3 leets you to the solution.

Calendar + Assistant + repeating notifications recommendation needed please!

Hi everyone. I've finally managed to get my Google calendar on my Huawei to give me notifications for Reminders! However, I would really like repeating reminders on these notifications in case I don't see or hear the reminder or just plain forget to do what they say! Ideally I'd like the notifications to keep going off every couple of minutes if I don't respond to them, and Google calendar doesn't have this functionality at all, as far as I can tell.
I tried a Program called calendar Notifications Plus, which looks perfect for my needs, but doesn't seem to work on my phone, it simply doesn't pick up on any reminders I set, so doesn't actually do a thing on my system.
I noticed that in the Google settings you can specify an alternative calendar app, so I was going to try that with a third party calendar app. Does anyone have any recommendations for an app, ideally with this repeating functionality built into it, and on top of that I'd like to talk to Google assistant to set up the reminders if possible, like I do currently.
For example I say "Hey Google, remind me to punch a badger at 12pm today" and it sets up the reminder which gets put into the thirtld party app, which will notify me at 12pm and then continue to vibrate/play a notification sound every 2 minutes until I dismiss the notification.
Anyone have any experience running a setup like this please?
Thanks so much!
P.S - I really wouldn't recommend punching badgers as they (a) don't like it (b) can be quite vicious, and (c) often carry tuberculosis. ?
Ah, turns out the Alternative calendars setting isn't for alternative third party apps, but for alternative calendars, like Chinese, Hebrew, Indian, etc.
So I guess my new question is - does anyone know how I can get notifications to repeat and keep beeping/vibrating every couple of minutes until I dismiss the notifications?
