Ok guys so ive just bought a uk orange branded hero, and i dont have a clue about android or linux for that matter, so i hope you guys could answer a few questions for me, ive looked at the stickys in the android development section, and now im more confused than before lol
1) What is rooting? and what is the process ment to achieve?
2) like i said i have a uk orange branded hero, now what is the process i need to do before i can start flashing roms? it seems a little more complicated that just flashing hspl like am used to lol
root is the system administrator of a unix system. you might wanna google that if you don't know what it is.
depending on your fastboot version you need to flash the custom recovery image, from there on it is a piece of cake. if you don't need to downgrade your system then flashing the custom recovery is also a piece of cake.

My intention is to give balanced advice to all those who intend to modify their new Android.
Ask yourselves, what do you intend to do with root access, if you want your phone to do all simple tasks, no need to root. I would say get familiar with new OS before deciding "Root Way."

Rooting is the process of gaining full system access to your device. This has pros and cons (you can modify anything and really tweak the guts of your system...but you can also truely fubar the whole thing a lot easier too). If you don't have a need to root, I generally advise against it.
Flashing custom ROMs are an unsupported method of customization...but it, like rooting, has some potential gains. Some ROMS give more speed, some ROMs include more features that you may or may not want. Flashing ROMs are the reasons most people root (as to flash the ROM, you need root access)
Thanx for all your help guys, i read all that info and spent the last 2 days learning lol 2day i sucsessfully downgraded my rom, routed and flashed modaco 2.9
Goodlad!
Excellent. Now please tell our forum members which road you drove to get to root, so that someone with same enthusiam can also do same. You dont have to write whole page, just majot points and references or links.
Thanks.
Just got my handset today, and the first thing i want to do is to remove bloatware. Was hoping we could gather a list of all the bloatware on this device so we know what we're doing, lol. I haven't even rooted yet, but i suppose apps like flash, help, liveware manager, music unlimited, neoreader, playnow, timescape, tracid and wisepilot can be removed. Probably many more also.
First : Search is your Friend, there some Topics in General as far i know. Used one of them for myself.
But based on my good Mood :
Junk/Unnecessary app list (Updated 16/4) Apps can be diffrent based on your Country/Carrier Setup.
Second : Wrong Forum.

Hi there,
There is a thread just below this one in how to do it - Rooting your S5. Please search before you post
On that note, thread closed.
Sorry, but just not sure which forum to post my question in. Running a LG P769 phone with t-mobile OS. want to at least eliminate biggest room hogs which include t-mobile system apps and some I put in which now won't go fully away.
Need to get advice on the hopefully simplest root unroot method to employ.
Thanks for listening and for your help. Jim
Root unroot question. Which forum to use?
Edit: Removed as unnecessary reply to my original post. My apology if any confusion resulted. Jim
Hi!
Not sure if posting into right section..
I'm wondering if someone is able to help me deknox my Galaxy A6 A600FN?
I have read something about "kitchen" in this forum but I guess there are people more used to this type of customisation than me.
The thing is that my work phone is preconfigured with the Knox Cloud MDM and prevents me from installing certain apps. So I would really need help removing the Knox from a rom if it is even possible? I'm not to familiar with this but I guess I need to flash it with the help of TWRP?
