Is it possible on the SGSII to get updated radio drivers and installing them, without flashing a new kernel, or other new stuff other then a new radio or modem driver?

Not entirely sure what you are asking, but i'll go with: Yes, check out this thread. Flash the modem by putting the file in the 'Phone' section of Odin, good luck.

Thanks just the answer I was looking for.... Does it cause compatibility issues? For example KG6 modem flashed on top of KG3 modem with KG3 firmware? Or are there no issues for the most part?

No issues. However a modem that works well for me might not work well for you. The best thing to do is usually flash the latest and if that is no good, flash the latest one before that etc. until you find one that you are happy with.

Hey,
Im running the GT-I9100T from Vodafone on Australia, currently running MIUI 1.8.19 and wish to flash to another modem other than the KH3 currently on here as the reception is less than good.
I was hoping to find the original KF4 modem shipped with the stock firmware available from kies, but alas could not find it. I only found KF2, or KG1 and above.. I was looking at this thread :
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...II-Shipped-Radio-Collection?p=42051#post42051
for modems but was wondering who in Australia gets the best receptions with which modem?
Cheers!
EDIT : Can the modem.bin file from the original firmware downloaded through kies that is KF4 be extracted and placed in another rom to flash? or just flash through odin/cwm?

I'm with Optus and I find KH3 to be quite good for me. If you have the modem.bin file you can flash it through CWM, but you need to make it a flashable zip.
Otherwise you might be able to put it into another rom.
EDIT: The best way to find out which modem gives you the best reception is to test them out

No worries. Hope that works out for you.
Hey guys,
So I rooted my device a while back. I honestly don't remember what I did.
Could it be that I changed a modem / radio firmware or something of that sort? I'm asking because it feels to me as if my 3G connection is very unstable, and while my friends can watch youtube vids when we're driving mine will not connect.
What should i do if this is the case? Do I just need to replace it with another modem firmware?
Kh3 for the win

Mind elaborating on that?

Okay. That's a bit better.
But what's KH3? is that a Kernel?
I'm a noob, would really appreciate getting a more detailed explanation.
My baseband (which is modem isn't it?) is KE7 and my Kernel is KF3.
KH3 MODEM .

Cool. Just so I get this again:
I can update my modem, kernel and ROM each one individually without affecting anything?
Yes mostly interchangeable .

Probably not easy to flash back original modem .

There are loads of threads that have lots of different modems up for download. Just download one, put it on the Internal SD, and flash it with CWM. It's trial and error which one works best for you.

anyone happen to have a flashable modem zip for DXLSD? hopefully for Rootbox ;p tried searching but to no avail.
time for an upgrade to my local modem. thanks guys!
Look on hawkerpauls modem thread mate. Loads of help on there. Loads of modems tooo. Remember dont flash modem and ril on custom rom. Modem/ril combo is for Samsung firmware only. Rootbox only flash modem. There all in hawkerpauls thread. You may have to flash loads to find whats best for you. Read the thread is full of good info on what modem is good for were and what network.
If you do flash modem/ril combo on custom make sure you no what your doing and got a good bkup of efs folder as chances are high you will need it.

DXLSD is a ROM.Look at this..Modem is DXLP8.I couldn't find that modem,however,I found a newer version of it,DXLP9!
Dxlp9 is for 4.0.3
Dont flash the ril mate
I was using the S2 with Jelly Bean. I found the phone to heat up very quickly around the camera lens and top of the phone rather than when running on Ginger Bread. I then installed the Resurrection Remix Custom ROM v5.1.3 with KitKat 4.4.2.
But the heating problem is still there. Checking online I found out that the modem was the problem.I found the KH3 modem was the best for the Galaxy S2. I was wondering if installing the KH3 modem was appropriate on Custom ROM or can modems be installed only on Custom ROM???
If it can be installed can anyone guide me how ... BTW I am using the phone in India ...
Please reply the overheating problem is driving me nuts.
Attatched is a screenshot showing my phone information.
You question is a bit confused (because you haven't taken the time to learn 'the basics' like 95% of people who come here), but the answer is yes. Modems are interchangeable between Android versions on the S2 & not dependent on same; I.E you can flash a modem that was bundled with stock rom that was a different Android version to the one you're currently running (whether stock or custom, makes no difference).
As to how to flash a modem....C'mon....
This is absolute basics, you should know this stuff back to front inside out if you're flashing custom roms.
In other words, search.

Usually a modem file size should not exceed 10 MB. You can even flash the modem via cwm. On xda you can find links for such files.

That's not required. Just keep a flashable file of your current modem, just in case you want to revert. I mean, download it and keep it on your phone.
For India, ddls9 also works quite well. I have seen good results on xxls8 too.

If something happens and I restore the phone from a backup of the phone , will the firmware baseband be restored or thats something else??
Firmwares are included in the backup or not??

I am not very sure about that. My guess is that it doesn't backup your modem with the rom backup.
