Re: Verizon is releasing another update tommorow: ED05 did not fix the miss call problem

After reading your post wardcst24, I called back again to verify and he reassured me that ED06 will be pushed out tommorow because they realized that ed05 didn't resolved the problem. He was a level 2 tech, and also got confirmation that ed06 would be pushed out tommorow from the manager that i had talked to earlier, so we shall see.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Got this off VZW Fascinate Forum
Said VZW to push ED06 Aug 1st

Never heard of it, but if they are releasing this update then it's sad they can't get it fixed right the first time...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

Later quote from same VZW forum thread:
___
I called Verizon 2nd level tech support and they assured me there is NO ED06 update's said they haven't even finished rolling out ED05 yet. I think they just told you that to get you off the phone.
____
Knowing the history of wait times for software roll-outs on this phone, the idea of an ED06 within days of the ED05 sounds like a fairytale to me...

Who knows, didn't ED03 roll out days after ED01? I hope BG is getting close, Froyo has been a fiasco.

I wish some of these phone companies would look at what goes on in the dev communities and hires them to help them out. They would probably do a better job than the morons that work for them!

New Official ROM release 2/15?

Hey I don't normally post on here, I have been over at ppcgeeks for over a year now and thought everyone would like to read this. Hopefully its true.
"Read this before you start flaming....
So, recognizing that it is definately NOT early Q1 2008 anymore, I decided to go on an info seeking quest with Sprint Customer Service. After about 45 minutes of being put on hold...transfered twice...some social engineering....I finally got transfered to a device engineer. Mind you, this was not any type of customer service rep or tech support guy. This was an engineer who actually worked on it.
He confirmed, and very quickly I might add (didn't need to look anything up....he immediately knew the answer), that the update we all DESPERATELY want will come out this Friday, February 15th. I said to him, "This Friday? That's a strange day. You guys usually release on Mondays." He replied, "Yes, it is an unusual day. We are releasing it on Friday because it's already late to market."
I think this is pretty credible info. He backed it up with admission of a strange release day and the fact that it's late.
Now, bring it on Naysayers...."

We don't flame here:-D
I'm pretty sure this is the tenth "for sure" release date we've heard.
Well, I was on hold with Sprint for almost 45 minutes and was told that the new update was coming out on Friday. He couldn't give me any details other than that. Sounds promising, but I'm not going to hold my breath!

I know, but I am just hoping that Sprint will follow through on one of them. At least by default.
here is why I wouldn't believe this...(and I'm not flaming the poster here just pointing out some inconsistencies...)
1 - If it was actually done and what he said was true they would have released it as soon as it was officially DONE...for the same reasons he said it would be released on a friday...It's Late...Why delay till friday if it is complete?
2 - Sorint isn't the one actually working on this release...HTC is! All Sprint might do is integrate it into a ROM for their phones but HTC was the one actually working on the radio. Maybe the radio is done and Spint has it but again if they had it why wait till friday to release it?
Only reason to wait on a release is for testing purposes...
And if that is true then they could just as easily find a problem and delay again...
No matter what the truth is, It will be done when it's done! We have DCD's ROMs to work with for now. And even if Sprint does release Friday it will take a day or two before guys like DCD and No2Chem extract the stable radio in it and cook up some Roms for everyone else.
The only thing I know thats happening on Friday for Sprint is that my neighbor and good friend maybe out of a job, Sprint is going through a MASSIVE restructuring and layoff. His support area is going from 15 cell site techs to 7.... Sprints got real issues other than slow ROM updates

You'd be surprised. I used to work for a company (will let the company rename nameless) that did all the picturemail testing and QA for sprint phones and when we would get new firmware and everything was QAed and done and certified for release the firmware was not "immediately" released. They ALWAYS set a date a for real production but would have it in "production" for a week or so with the sprint people to make sure everything worked fine.
why dont they just mail the files to dcd or colonel and let them do it for em? seems like something would actually get done and done right.

I'll check with my friend who leaked me the early testing version with GPS and RevA
I'm sure he's reliable
I am just confused why the release will be Friday. Usually they release Monday just in case there are any issues they have tech support on hand M-F to fix the issues. I am talking even the basic issues with a good rom. Plus everyone knows the techs do not set the release data. Upper Management sets the release date once they feel like it is in control. Just my opinion.
they cant tech their way out of a wet paper sack anyway. the devs in here are far better support than any pin head at sprint will ever be. Ill wait for the xda gurus and the ppc guys (if they get their site working right) to put thier heads together and build a screamin rom for us all

Are you stupid or something? Do you really think any carrier makes thier own ROM? HTC does all of it, every little bit, and then carriers bug test and HTC sends them another. Why do people think carriers make phones or software? All they make is a network.

Oh no... and carefull tossing around accusations of "stupidity"... You've already touched upon testing, but also often either in house or contracted out development is done for carrier specific applications and configurations for the carriers' released ROMs.

HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware. Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008. Please bookmark this page for easy reference.

Well my point was until their final testing is complete you can't really be sure they have a stable release at all...
they may have set Friday as the release date so they could test but that friday is just another deadline that could be missed if they find some issue between now and then...
So you can't really say it is READY unless you have already done all your testing and if you haven't then it is not actually ready yet...
In either case something said is not really fact! Either it was tested and ready so why not release...Or it is being tested until friday to see if it is good and therefore NOT READY yet...
Thats all I was trying to get across.

Waiting for the "All Clear"

I was hoping to hear that that this TB GB bricking issue was identified so that we can go back to enjoying 2.3 in peace.
Is there any word on progress being made to identify the cause of the bricking and when that might be resolved? Are we just waiting for another leak?

I don't even think anyone is even looking into this anymore. It was an alpha release.
It would make more sense for the dev's to wait for a new release than waste weeks searching for a fix just to have a new release come out.
if they are still on schedule for q2, a new leak can't be far away
That's what I suspected. Hopefully it won't be too long, at least not on typical "Verizon Time". That's like waiting for things in dog years...

[Q] Is Gingerbread going to be released on June 30th for the Thunderbolt?

I'm not holding my breath
Who really cares anyways?
If you are on this forum, chances are you are already running some type of GB on your phone and it is probably better than any "stock" release whether that is tomorrow or a month from now.
the GB roms run great (im on theory)....but come on man...its not going to be as stable as a final GB + Sense build...there are many proprietary files that are not complete with the test build...i cant see why the new official build wont increase are GB rom experience

you shouldnt update if you are rooted. wait for a rooted stock firmware.
I highly doubt it since there's been little or no talk at all about it. I was wondering since I just snatched one off of CL for super cheap. guess I'll go root instead.
I'd like to point out that it was all of 3 weeks ago they leaked something that looked like a reliable RUU called MR2 that was beyond question Froyo. Is it just me, or am I the ONLY one that took one look at that fake looking photo and said to myself "Dear God, the only thing that would look more fake would be a duck bill on a cactus." Can you imagine what the order for such a thing would sound like? "Hey, Johnny! We need and INTERNAL MEMO drawn up. Make sure to put our logo in the LEFT corner where NOBODY would ever put a logo on official stationary, be sure to add a picture of the device incase NOBODY has ever seen our first LTE phone, and definitely add specific OTA release numbers AND the radio version that will include so that our boys down in technical support will grow big rubbery ones as they dangle the information out there at hords of pimple-faced geeks calling with 'problems' but are really just hoping for the next big scoop for Androidforums.com" If Gingerbread come out in an official OTA today, I will eat my Thunderbolt and post the video on Youtube. I promise. In fact, if it comes out in the next 90 days, I'll eat the phone.

[Q] Will AT&T Note be getting ICS OTA?

Scheduled. But no specific release date. People have been saying March / April.
The Note should definitely be getting ICS.
Okay cool thanks guys!
I believe Samsung said in Q1, and a rumor just surfaced that it would be March 1.
Murphy is a cousin of mine so i say AT&T will update to ICS 2-4 months after Int'l ppl get it from Samsung.
i <3 you Murph!!
That's the worst part of this. My Cappy has been amazing with ICS. I'm almost tempted to keep it until the Note get ICS also.
Too bad the hardware is different for the ATT note (from International version), we don't have LTE in Seattle, but I dislike the physical button on the IV.
Oh well, here's hoping ATT doesn't run the same route as the Captivate (Froyo forever sucked, then Gingerbread last week or so! It was great to have ports of gingerbread well before ATT)
OP, if ics came to the g-note a week after tomorrow it wouldn't be soon enough.
The captivate is freaking unbelievable running it. I to am enjoying it ...almost... enough to put off buying a new one. The cappy is a completely new phone...rom it on the g-note and it will -scream .... on ice cream. (sorry I couldn't help that last part)

ICS on AT&T Note is unlikely in first half of 2012. End of 2012, maybe. 2013? More likely.
It probably will not be ota.... There will probably be bootloaders if the notes ever get ics.
With my history on updates for at&t devices....if it EVER comes, count yourself
lucky. AT&T, except for the iPhones, delays, delays, delays updates.
I've had two non branded phones, and always get updates MONTHS before at&t updates.

Source? If that's just a guess, please say so.
After dealing with samsungs BS with the Vibrant, I don't believe a single word, promise, hint, or hope that they announce until I see ICS on my device. I love Samsungs hardware, but I have lost faith in the company itself long ago when dealing with my vibrant and our 10% out of the box fail rate with Sync Master monitors.
On a plus side, my vibrant runs ICS beautifully so I'm sure it will be even better on the Note once a few good ROMS are released and the bugs are worked out.

It's called common sense if you ever dealed with Samsung devices on AT&T in the past. Anything else is just naive thinking, or fantacy.
For the record, AT&T (not Samsung) is the one determines when an update will be available. And AT&T almost never give out release dates. In rare cases it did so (Captivate and Infuse GB updates are said to be available in fall 2011), they screwed it (both release in 2012).
So, any posting about release schudle is pure guess.

+1. If it comes in OTA, wait a few days. OTA update with bootloader change almost always bricks a few phones everytime Samsung tries it. Most recent is the GS2 Skyrocket 2.3.6 OTA last month.
We have to go through the phases of an over due update. We havn't even seen the numerous "i know someone who can say with certainty that..." or "my brothers cousins sisters poodles hairdresser brother works on the dev teams and said..." or my personal favorite "i know someone inside the company who says". Then there is the phase of dispair where people say they will never buy sammy again and will be selling this POS and so on. Check out the captivate and vibrant forums and you'll see lots. In the vibrants case, it was Samsungs fault for dragging their feet, not T-Mo as they hadnt received the software to bloatware onto when waiting for Froyo! Sit and wait and watch current ROM scene if you really want ICS.

That's the common mis-conception. Carrier bloatware is baked into the ROM by Samsung per carrier request.
Here is how a firmware update process goes:
1. The carrier in question must feel the need for an firmware update. It's a big deal because it has to allocate resources for extensive testing, training of CSR and actual releasing.
2. The carrier makes a request for new firmware to Samsung.
3. Samsung builds the new firmware based on carrier's request and send to carrier for testing.
4. The carrier test extensively of the new build. If there are significant problems found, it goes back to step 3.
5. After extensive testing, carrier OKs the new firmware but need to pick a release date. Most importantly it has make sure it won't jeopardize the sales of new phones.
6. Once received OK from carrier, Samsung can put out the new firmware.
I'm not sure we are even past step 1 yet.

I'm confused about your logic on this and frankly it seems that your "I'll show you that we're screwed" attitude seems to make this irrelevant. But for the sake of anyone else reading this and getting utterly depressed that our amazing phone may not be getting ICS... well that's just incorrect. This page shows that ICS is currently in development (as opposed to "evaluation & planning") for the photon and is in the category of phones with at least 1GB of RAM, which I would like to consider promising.
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
Also the main complaint from the article you linked to was about delayed updating of the X2. I don't even know how much longer that's been out than the Photon b/c it's seems like a LONG time.
Anywho, stop being so d**n negative!
Plus we have awesome devs that have gotten us cm9 already, and stable much earlier than most phones so I guess I don't understand the severity of the problem if you're on this site.

So some guy named Brandon Russell regurgitates another writers article and you all are gung hoe? I have some land I would like to talk to you about
@ricky, read back S-L-O-W-L-Y. I have no issues with my Photon, none at all. I might jump for a new EVO, but thats beside the point. I have no problems with the Developers here, they do, and continue to do a great job. But, my Photon is GREAT.
If all of you take my first suggestion here, In my OP in the link about, my issues is with Sprint and the way they handled business! How do you put a EOL of a device thats not even a year old, but you continue to support the original EVO (although threated a few times to shelve it?) If it breaks in May, you do not get another Photon, you get a compatable device. yes, CM9 is great! if it breaks then, then what, you rooted it, so that's blown out the water.
The second link was to clarify 2 things. 1. if Sprint is going to EOL the Photon, they are not going to support it, PERIOD! (It they keep that promise). Therefore, the Q3 promise is, for the most part, dead. That user responded by telling me the motorola controls OTA upgrades. As that article stated, reguardless of carrier or device, these are controlled by the carrier, not the manfuacture.
Lastly, to comment on my last sentence in this original post, who s**t on who? Did Sprint crap on Motorola with not enough advertisement, support, ect. Or did Motorola crap on Sprint by making Development promises they could not keep and Sprint finally said "F" it?
Learn how to name your threads appropriately, please.
Moto said rollout starts in Q3 - Q3 has NOT started yet!
And I don't care at all "who did what to who". It's just a friggin' phone man!! I've got a dozen gathering dust in the bottom of my closet. Along with a dozen computers I've given to charities, friends and families over the years.
dsims7_2000 if you are that angry and bitter why dont you go to Verizon or ATT. I would like to see ICS on the photon to but no one ever geranteed that it would get it. If it does then thats great if not oh well we still have cm9.
Into y'all feelings much? .... Welp this is my last few posts for the photon as I have a epic touch too and going to be there for awhile.. Look guys I been here for awhile like back since the winmo days HTC cingular 8125 and tmo wing.. And since cm3 ppl been just needy complaining upset at things that shouldn't matter.. Dude! Calm the F&#K down!
Moto has it officially listed as rolling out in Q3. Sprint is EOL-ing certain devices early just to make sure that all WiMax hardware is cleared out before LTE comes in so there's no confusion.
If you wanted WiMax to stick around and grow, you should've rallied more people to Sprint. Instead, everyone wanted the iPhone or they thought they could "hear everybody now" on Verizon. Now they're stuck in contracts with Data caps and insane bills. Meanwhile, we still have comparatively nice bills and unlimited data but we're all stuck with having to switch over to LTE and endure a massive network overhaul. *Shrug*
Really, the most confusion seems to be understanding what EOL actually means. It doesn't mean your phone is done with updates or that if you call support they won't help you, it mostly just means they're done selling/swapping it.
I suggest the OP re-read his linked article. It's not Sprint/USCC that's doing a crappy job of rolling out ICS, it's Motorola, which completely contradicts his claim. The carriers are certainly involved with testing and giving the final approval for OTA updates (and EOL status has nothing to do with that), but the gruntwork behind updates is done by the manufacturers.
FTR, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that it takes Motorola this long to do updates. Their dev team and code infrastructure must be absolutely horrendous considering that a small group of amateur enthusiasts are able to produce mostly working ICS ROMs within a month or two of the release of ICS -- without manufacturer-provided driver updates.

I agree very well said
I have no worries about Motorola. As was stated before, Motorola said they are developing the update for the Photon and it should be out by Q3. I'm not worried about Sprint choosing to EOL the Photon. We are going to get ICS and I'd imagine that even if Sprint choose not to support ICS that Motorola would leak it to the community. You think all these SBFs were by accident?
OG epic still getting updates! I'll leave it at that

@ Forum member "TheShackSpecialits" this is just for you!. I stated with EOL Sprint will never let us get ICS. You stated we will because manufactures control OTA updates. I then gave you several reasons why they dont. This, my friend is for you!!
Not only did this article verify what I said, It also gave Motorola a grade of "D", the lowest of ANY cell manfacture for doing OTA Upgrades. This has to bring up the question, who s**t on who?

Seriously.......i could respond to this but i would restate what everyone has said thus far. I work in S&R and there is a reason I said everything I did. Your still very wrong and its frustrating that your still on this track with multiple employees and contributors telling you , that you are very wrong. I wish i could pull the i-connect and cebu articles to prove you wrong but i cant because thats a violation of policy. You have provided me with alot of entertainment but now im going back to lurking unless im contributing. This whole thread and previous thread make me sad. To loki and other members thanks for your contributions.

Sprints the reason you aren't getting it. It is Sprints phone, Motorola just made it for them. Like Foxconn makes iphones for Apple. If Sprint Eol the Photon and ends support also. There will be no official is. Im pretty sure Sprint can sue them if they released an oat update on Sprints network and their tailor made phone they paid to have made.
