[Q] Is it safe - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was thinking about doing a factory data reset on my atrix thats rooted with gingerblur. i was just wondering if it was safe to do? thanks for the help

Yes it is safe to do you wont lose root atleast I didn't
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App

thanks alot. i don't even care about loosing root. so if it happens oh well haha

did you have success with this? im in the same boat

Factory reset is completely safe guys. It just removes all your apps and user data, no way you can brick with it.

Sounds like a challenge to me!
You know now you have said that someone will post a thread saying they bricked doing a factory reset! LOL

I can't answer your question, but the thread title reminded me of this famous scene.

Just don't delete your home app... I did and couldn't get past the motoblur setup

I"m pretty sure it's not possible because the phone resets every three seconds or so.
if there were a solution, it would be posted in the sticky threads in the developers forums.
If it is continuously bootlooping even in recovery, then you are truly fubar. No fix available. No amount of prayer/voodoo/exorcism will raise it from the dead. Donate it to science & send it to jcase. Maybe he can figure out why your phone was affected.

Like sublimaze said, if it bootloops in recovery there is no known fix at this time but you could help everyone out a lot by going to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098363

so this may be a silly question but its not possible to do a battery pull and boot right back into the bootloader? perhaps even keep a stock froyo radio on the root of the sd card incase the worst should happen?
I could have sworn the definition of a brick means it's not recoverable.
If you can recover, then it's technically not a brick.

I also thought that was the case. hence the word "brick" but if its still booting, why cant anyone figure out how to fix it?

The problem is that the phone reboots every few seconds, apparently not leaving enough time to apply any kind of 'fix'.
There is no fix yet but that thread that was linked to previously would probably be your best bet.

Nobody has reported any reproducible errors other than bricking your NFC by not resetting Google Wallet before doing a factory reset or ROM flash . . . but this is a danger even for non-rooters who do a hard reset (somebody was even told to do this to fix his phone by a Sprint rep, you can imagine how that went down).
So in orther words there is no downside

Does Galaxy s3 rooting wipe my phone?

Does Galaxy s3 rooting wipe my phone?
and what exactly does it wipe if it does? :0
No it doesn't mate.. only if your flashing a custom Rom. And not always, some are "no wipe" but this will be on the Rom description
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
If you do need to wipe. You will lose apps and all settIngs. But not on the sd. You will still have your pics and music.
You will have to log into Google account again. And you can restore apps if you left the backup box ticked when you first logged into Google account
Thank me if I've helped.

wow thanks for so fast reply!!! thanks for it!! now i can root my galaxy s3 with some help of my friend
Thank me if I've helped mate. The button I mean. Have fun with your rooted phone.. it will Change your life haha
Be careful tho! Don't mess with anything your not sure of.. If your not sure but curious about something.. search on here first.... many ppl have asked the same question as you and their is plenty more info on them threads. If all else fails and u can't find a simular thread to answer your question. then ask and open a new topic

I have a question? When there is an ota update, and I am using stock, will flashing the new stock updated rooted rom start my phone from scratch or leave all settings, widgets, apps and everything the way it was only just giving new updates as when you accept it ota unrooted.

You must have hit wipe... no other way for sure.
Some custom ROMs with latest unofficial builds can wipe your data so beware and check the relative documentation before doing so

[General question/though] softbrick phone made in china hope Entropy enlightens us

First Let me say everything Here is all my personal Opinion and by just rooting phones and installing mod I already sorta voided my warranty. Okay Lets start, A few months when the ICS bug was Hot Like fish grease my phone's USB was corroded and would not charge. I went to a ATT Repair center and Got a new one/refurbish one and I notice that it didn't have much under the battery All it said was the Model number IME barcode and the "MADE IN CHINA" Letters.
I came home and the first thing I did was root install GB custom rom. I decided to wait for CM9 to taste ICS. After it was On nightly I install like any other installation and then move on to AOKP Rom from task, That rom has the feature that lets you change the text where you carrier label is. And I change which was fine. I went back to CM9 and that text Remain there and I did wipe/data like it said in the instructions, When I updated to the latest nightly I use Rom manager and booted into CMW (noob mistake) I wasn't paying attention and I got a soft brick. phone booted and showed SAMSUNG GALAXY SII but then just turn off and on buttons on bottom lit up like when you put your phone into download mode. I pull battery Use method to return to stock/root Using Odin Which if I'm correct it would have increase my counter (Correct me if I'm wrong) phone work Install a kernel with CMW using terminal install CM9 And even when I did those steps the same text That I had use was still There.
I found that very Weird but I still left it I didn't care. When the Leak ATT ICS came out Entropy said something about Bricking your phone something to do with the eMMC chip or whatever, Anyways Fast forward to lastnight/today I wanted to start from scratch and install a Samsung base rom just for giggles. And to my surprise I wipe my SD card and tried to wipe my phone but in the whole process my phone lag and I guess I press the button to wipe so many times I pull battery and guess what happen?... I got a soft brick again, Okay spend 30 mins again to redo my regular soft brick steps and my media scanner, Gallery, Camera didn't work. I then again wipe the phone and loaded semi v16c UCLE5 att update and my phone work again I formatted my sd card and my gallery camera started working again. But again the Carrier text from The very first AOKP rom Was still there in the lock screen.'
I again wipe and soft brick but this time to test out if it really does happen when You wipe from phone. Which it did happen and again repeated my steps. I guess I would like entropy or someone with more knowledge than me help me answer these mind boggling questions.
1. Is it possible my phone is sorta unique of the soft brick/wipe phone routine?
2. I downloaded the app from chain fire that detects if your emmc chip is one of the unlucky ones who have the bug or whatever and I do have the chip
3.How is it possible That the carrier label text is still there after so many wipes and rom flashes
4. I pretty sure I have not done anything to the boot loaders unless the roms I flash has them (which I think they don't)
I hope I explain my situation good. Again this is not a rant or troll or a customer support tread I clearly Understand the dangers of flashing and rooting Thanks for reading
p.s remove the picture because apparently my screenshot is offensive
Well that was a mouthful. LOL.
What are you using to wipe the phone? CWM or Factory data reset in settings?

1. You use rom manager
2. You use the factory reset in settings
3. You pull the battery in the middle of flashes
Why are you using Odin when you have cwm? Are you not making nandroids before flashing? Do you know how to boot to recovery from a boot loop?
I suggest you read a whole lot more about flashing and recovery before you do anymore. Because a lot of what you posted sounds like it could've been avoided had you followed any of the guides.post on xda

I actually didn't know this, I had just never tried using the settings reset. Thanks for the heads up. BTW, does it soft brick even if you don't flash a new ROM? Or only when you change ROMs after doing a settings reset?

When using a custom ROM. If you are using what came with the phone or is updated officially via ATT then you may use it without issue.
OK . First, don't use rom manager. As already stated. And second, make sure to do FULL wipes between flashing different roms. This includes /system, data, cache, dalvik, and running the kernel cleaning script for good measure. That should always leave u with a fresh install.

There is no way that this would keel happening if u do a full wipe .

Thanks for the info shoman never really though I about it rooted stock being not fully stock. I guess I can do a control test and run an actual stock and see if it will soft brick.
I just think uts a bit weird my made in China phone has or suffers these things.

Why is it weird? The issues you're having is all user error. Nothing to do with the phone.

You can't start talking about hardware problems until you eliminate all user error.

Bypassing pattern screen lock

Hey guys,
I have a device which i need to unlock (screen pattern lock).
I have no details regarding it's google account/PIN or any other method that allows unlocking it without using the pattern.
I tried downloading aroma file manager that allows access to the password file and delete it, but when i tried to install the aroma manager (through recovery, from an sd card) i keep getting these errors:
e: footer is wrong
e: signature verification failed
is there any way to solve this?
i can't access the device, so i can't enable debugging mode and things like that...is there any solution, besides wiping everything back to factory settings?
thanks!
This sounds fishy, why do you have no clue as to what the Google account/pin is?

because i found the device on the street...i want to find the owners to return it (find a relevant phone number in the contacts or something), but i can't unlock the phone....obviously since it's not mine i have no details about any accounts on it.
if i wanted to take it and use it i would just reset it, but i don't want to do that...
Congratz, now it's even more fishy. Give the phone to local authorities and rest, hero. "assuming ur story was real"

wow, thanks really...very helpful.
We have no proof of what you say, and its easy to lie on the internet. Also any way to help you will result in all data being deleted... Return the phone to the local authorities.
Also, lollipop implemented wipe protection so wipes will leave the the phone locked as well...
I actually have the same question. My brother passed away a year ago. His s4 is locked but I want to save his pictures that he has on there, so factory reset is NOT an option. Please help

Take it to the Verizon store, they should be able to help you in your circumstances. Just prove that you are his brother. BTW if this is true, I'm sorry you lost your brother

Thank you very much
Verizon will not help you at all and can not help you at all.
The local authorities are always useless.
The only way to bypass is with a nowipe tar. If you don't know what that is it's probably too much of a PITA to attempt.
