So, I have a rooted GB updated DX2 now, and I am having problems hanging up the phone, whether I called or they called me. The screen goes black like usual and when the conversation is over, I go to hang up the phone and can not get off the black screen. I've tried all the buttons and i get no where and the phone is still in communication with the other person. I have to w8 like 30 seconds after the other person has hung up before the phone will pop back up and say call ended. Is anyone else having this issue and is there a way to fix this?
Thanks in advanced
I have not run into this problem but something you may want to try, at least until someone has a better solution, go to Settings > Accessibility and enable Power button ends call. This will allow you to press the power button to end a call instead of waiting for 30 or so seconds for the sensor to catch up.
I solved it at wrk.today after having gb wen p3droid released it. It was my phone case. I got the trident kraken and I think the uv layer protector blocks the sensor from motion capture. Anyway, I cut out the plastic where the eye is and it works now. Thanks for the advice.

Overall i am pleased with the update, but i believe i uncovered an issue that others are expriencing as well.
When i have a second line calling me the screen does not wake up allowing me to switch to the second call. In the past, when a second call comes in the proximity sensor would wake the screen and allow me to take or reject the call. Now i cant even see who is calling. Since i use the phone for business, this is a big, big issue. It still works but the screen only wakes up after like the third ring, whereas before it would wake up immediately Anyone else experience this? I tried this on my buddies Vibrant and its the same thing.
So the question to you guys is how do i get the old dialer app back which i believe controls call waiting. Does anyone else know a way around this annoying issue?
Is there something stopping you from pressing the power button to turn the screen on when you hear the call waiting beep?
The prox sensor is not perfect.

Obviously, if it was perfect this thread wouldn't exist.

Thank u. I tried the power button, but unfortunately it does not wake the screen.
Thread moved to Q&A.
bump - me too!
pressing the power button results in a lagged response. that is: call waiting call comes in, screen is black. press the button screen stays black. 5-6 seconds pass and then the screen comes on finally and shuts right back off. whereas NOT pressing the power button, the screen stays black for 5-6 seconds and then comes on and stays on.
I am experiencing this problem too. Just started since coming from stock to JI6.
bump... me too, but this happened on a friend of mine's vibrant who was using stock JI6 from the ota, no root nothing and every incoming call if she is on a call has the same behavior.
This issue has gotten so annoying for me, I have unfortunately decided to sell the phone. I loved it, but is failed in the function I use it most as, a phone. Got a g2. Not as glamorous as the vibrant, but it works as a phone.
Hey all,
My Samsung Fascinate has an issue where the following have been happening (mostly in spurts, where it gets really bad);
There are what you could call "Phantom" button presses, I'll be doing something on it, surfing the web, reading something, and it'll just start acting up as if random buttons are being pressed. This'll go on for about 10-30 seconds, or until I use kill a bunch of background running apps. I originally thought it was due to having a screen protector over the hot keys, so I took that off the hot key area. that took care of it for a while, until I rooted my phone and started using custom ROMs (right now, I had a debloated ED01 ROM). After that, it began acting up again. I'm gonna try derooting it and doing the official updates to see if that helps. Any other directions for me to look in to fix this? Now it also has been eating up battery power like crazy (it almost dies when I was at work today, and I pretty much only use it as a time piece when there).
I also now have the problem where it wakes back up after I put it to sleep. If you just want to answer this in the thread already for this problem, then no problem, I'll follow that thread as well as this one.
Thanks for your help on this.

EDIT: Another symptom for consideration: When the phone acts up, it'll also snap screenshots when I try to power it off. Usually I can stop this by killing most of the running apps or swiping my finger across the hotkey area..
Sounds like something is up with your digitizer (the part of the screen that registers touch/gestures). If you flash back to bone stock ED01 and it's still acting up, take it in and get it swapped/fixed.

I would say you need to do a real good cleaning of your screen. The screen protectors for the Fascinate were not designed to be placed over the capacative keys (hot keys) and the slight adhesive on the screen protector probably left a residue on the capacitive keys. The screenshot when pressing the power button is a big clue. Screenshots are taken when you hold down the back capacative key and press the power button. This problem has almost always been cleared up by thoroughly cleaning the capacitive (soft) keys.
Cool, thanks guys for the help. I'll try the cleaning thing first; I'm guessing that alcohol wipes would work just fine for this?
Also, on the screen cap thing, that does make sense considering the major thing that happens is my phone will act as if the back button is pressed (with it occasionally phantom pressing the home button and bringing up the task manager box). Would it maybe be a good idea to completely remove the screen protector (it's a ZAGG, ie: Heavy duty). I've talked to a couple of people who say it shouldn't be a huge necessity to have one on.
If this doesn't work, I'll go through and flash the stock ED01.
If anyone else has a possible answer/ solution, feel free to chime in, as I'm hoping to get an idea of all the possible reasons for this.
Thanks again.
Just fyi, you can disable the screen capture service by freezing it through a variety of apps (a lot of people use titanium backup pro).

How would I do that, I've looked through TiB and don't see an obvious setting that would take care of this.
First, you must have the pro version. Go to backup/restore tab at the top and find the screen capture service (it's in red text). Tap it and select freeze. This will disable, but not uninstall it, so you can restore it later. PM me if you need a screen shot.

Ok, got it. Now if I could get it to stop turning back on when I sleep it, it's been doing that a lot more of late. Going back to the capacitive keys issue; Is there a mod that can adjust the sensitivity of those keys, to make it so they don't get 'pressed' if theres any junk on them?

Hello all.
I recently purchased a used streak in the UK running the 2.2 o2 update and I'm having issues with the screen.
Every time I receive a phonecall and put the phone to my head to talk the screen powers off as a result of the proximity sensor doi. Gonna its thing. After hanging up the screen becomes unresponsive. At first I couldn't even turn the screen back on using the power button. I managed to get around this by installing the nolock application. Now the screen powers on the it 90% of the time but won't respond to touch at all. The only way to make it respond is to power the device off and on again by holding the power button in.
Has anyone else had this issue or know anything about it?
I have read about people not from being able to unlock the screen but no one has the phone call issue. I have tried the screen calibration but that hasn't made any difference. Neither has carrying the phone screen side out in my pocket.
Using the supplied headset enables me to make and receive calls normally but I'd really like to solve it as this isn't always practical.
Help would be much appreciated!
ThankThanks.
Sometimes it takes a few seconds for screen to come on after a phone call but I've never had complete unresponsiveness. My recommendation would be to perform a factory reset and if that doesnt resolve anything try a different rom (stock roms can be flashed without rooting so you can always restore 319 if things dont work and need to return the streak). If things still dont get cleared up I would probably send in the streak for a new one because that's a pretty big issue.
Hello!
Recently I have been unable to end a call on my Vibrant.
Everything seems to work OK except....
1. Dial pad will disappear when making a call and it will not appear [no end call button]
2. Power button takes 10 seconds to come out of a sleep.
OK, everyone is thinking proximity sensor....me too.
Soo I bought another one off of the bay...took phone apart/back together and same results.
I put the old back in and held it outside of the phone ( = no obstructions) = no go.
Flashed another ROM [overstock] = no go.
Each time I make a call I have to remove the battery to hang it up.
Is there anything else I can try ?
NOTE: Phone is out of warranty...
Thanks!
odin back to stock
I'm having the same problem! I've tried cm7, ICS passion & Euphoria all with the same dialer issue. I can make calls as soon as I do the screen is black and I have to wait for it to hang up by itself. I tried odin back to stock then reflashed cm7 and I'm still getting the same issue. I'm using a new ATT sim so I dont know if that makes a diff or not. After a minute the screen pops back up and says "com.android.phone" error....

Do you have a screen protector installed? I had the same problem, took my screen protector off and my phone was fine. I was using a Best Skins Ever
Same problem here, any solutions?
EDIT:
Nevermind, disassembled the phone and cleaned sensors from dust, works perfectly now.
Definitely a n00b but when it happened to me I would tilt the phone back and forth and the screen would come back on. Looks dumb but works most of the time.
So just recently, I noticed that whenever a call ends, the screen remains black and the proximity sensor is still on (red). I've tried pressing the unlock/lock button, but nothing happens. I know the call has ended because I hear the 'ring' that it makes. I've tried it with and without "The power key ends calls", no difference. I have not flashed anything different recently. The only solution I found was to hold down the power button until it restarts, but when someone calls, I have to repeat the process all over again. It was never like this until today. Does anyone know of a solution?
I'm currently on UnNamed 1.3.2 with Entropy's 1/2/12 DD
I'm currently having the same problem with the stock (rooted) ROM... Occasionally after a call, the next time I try to activate the screen, it just stays blank. Sometimes after a call, it's similar to what you described with the end button call staying red and the screen frozen. I have to hold down the on button for 5-10 seconds to reboot the phone. This phenomenon just started about a week ago. The phone has been working flawlessly until then.
I thought that maybe it's some app update gone astray.

I forgot to mention that I found the culprit, it was my screen protector. I had ordered one of SGP's screen protectors since a lot of people were saying it was good, but when it finally arrived, I noticed that it was very sticky and had covered over the proximity sensor. Over the coming days, the screen protector attracted dust due to it's stickiness when I put it in my pocket. You can probably guess what happened, dust was covered over the area of the proximity sensor, causing it to malfunction like that, but after I took it off, all was well, and now I'm rocking my phone half naked - case but no screen protector. I think I'll leave it like that from now on, gorilla glass feels and looks awesome
