I'm on WB's Gingetbread prerooted ROM, hotfix 5. Stock browser won't download anything. Is there a workaround for this?

Download astro file manager from the market (free!)
Go to preference, and tick 'enable browser download'
Then you will be able to download.

[Q]Browser download unsuccessful?

Hi,
I got my SGT a week ago and i tried downloading a few stuff from the stock browser (or any browser for that matter). i couldn't download anything from rapidshare or megashare or any other uploading site. also i tried downloading a .pptx file from google groups and also got the same message "<Untitled> download unsuccessful".
my phone (Nexus s) did manage to download it just fine.
Does anyone have a solution to that problem?

try renaming your download folder in /sdcard/ to another name and try downloading again.. the browser recreates the download folder and it seems to work for me again
I tried downloading opera and i managed to download the pptx file, but i couldn't download from file sharing because it counts the time for a few seconds and stops.
i also tried renaming the download folder but it didn't work.

Ummm I have the stock browser with Astro installed and in the settings for astro it has an option to allow you to download all file types did you try that?
What filehosting service are you using?
Filesonic, Fileserve, Wupload... You name it.
And what has Astro to do with web browser?
EDIT: Didn't help.
Have you tried another Browser? It would help to know if it's a Browser specific issue after all.
Opera can download those files just fine. Dolphin obviously can't, since it's using stock kernel.

Download manager

Can someone recommend a dowlnload manager please? Would be great if it also let me download files from sites like filesonic, etc

I use Byte Tornado (free from the market). Its an add-on for the default browser that allows it to download anything that it would not normally download. Really works quite well. Also works perfectly when downloading files from file sharing sites (mediafire, multiupload etc)

I use Opera Browser, the included download manager works like a charm.
I tried Bytetornado which is great but doesn't work on https pages (usefull if you have prenium account on host site or use fast-debrid for exemple).
Opera even let you choose where to download on your sd/card for each file (with no file extension's restriction), and ask you if you want to hide the download progress.
If you just need the download manager and have few ram less, you can use Opera mini.
Hope it helps

[Q] cm 7.1...no google apps???

how to have google apps (market specially) wid cyanogenmod 7.1 rc 2.1...n also cant log in google...
Hmmm...on the first boot in CM7 you sholud have options to log into your gmail account, and after first run of Market you should have an option to choose which gapps you wan't to install...strange...
Flash gapps then sign in to google it will work

nope dude...tried flashing gapps already..bt doesnt show up in menu...http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon6.gif
In settings set up a account then market will work...

just flash the RC2.1 and connect to a network(WiFi or mobile network) and the market should appear in app drawer..
If it doesn't, than open File explorer and go to system/apps and find "Vending.apk", tap and install, and you'll have the Market app.
done...but with terminal emulator...in dev tools i found market disabled...so gave command "pm enable com.android.vending" n app activated...

Try finding an apk file for the market. Uninstall the one of your phone and install the downloaded one.

Or else do a manual install of market app. We have a lots of them in apps section. Fix permissions. Use android commander from pc and install that app as a system app. But you need google account and its services to detect.
