Gingerbread Issues + Solutions - Motorola Droid X2

First, please do not close this thread. It does not disclose of any private information. Anyhow, the update has already been leaked, so, I don't see the big deal.
As some of you may know, I have had to great opportunity of being in the Motorola DROIDX2 soak test for Gingerbread 2.3.3.
Anyways, I am making a large list of problems, and dislikes that are withheld in the update. With this list, I will provide possible solutions.
Why this is important:
Being a soak tester, I have the direct power of posting on the private forums. I also have a few other advantages I won't disclose of. But, I figured I would speak with the community who doesn't have the opportunities that I do. Hopefully this will bring more issues amd ideas/solutions into the light and Motorola developers can work to include them in the next update.
I will be updating this post with reasonable ideas as they are posted.
Please, please, please do not post, "I have not had problems with..."
I am trying to keep this forum clean. Issues and solutions only, please.
Thanks!

Messaging
-When receiving more than one picture message, all picture thumbnails display the same picture
-Exiting out of picture messaging require the back button to be pressed fast very quickly, otherwise, just takes back to picture
-Cannot send text message to numbers with prefix 1#
-When sending mass text messages, they fail without notice
-This also causes text messages sent afterward to fail unless phone is rebooted
-Do not receive texts on occasion. They come in all at once, no matter service.
-Messaging (email) caches all recipient addresses from all received emails.
Screen Issues
-General screen pixelation
-When turning off phone, dark grey screen with darker grey vertical bars
Battery Issues
-Phone idle process is causing immense battery drain
-I have extended battery, and have a hard time getting through 10 hours of light use
-Battery icon on the notification bar inaccurate. Moves in +20% increments and lags the actual battery status.
Connectivity
-Getting worse network connectivity signal
-Signal gets stuck on 1x frequently
-Phone occasionally boots with no signal; must be rebooted
-Wifi network connects, but shows 0 bars and phone will not connect until location is forgotten and rebooted
-If phone is connected to wifi when it goes into airplane mode, it will not exit airplane mode
-Phone boots into airplane mode and must be rebooted
-Bluetooth is faulty on multiple levels
Docking Issues
-Docking has a lot of issues
Stock MultiTouch Keyboard Issues
-Keyboard occasionally closes while in use
-Upon double tapping space (for period) keyboard locks up and cannot be exited without rebooting (reproduced every time)
-While in landscape mode, scrap the done key for a send key. Hitting done, then send is redundant
Software
-Immense amount of worthless software
--VWZ Apps - Redundant
--Blockbuster - Can be downloaded from market
--Books - Can be downloaded from market
--Emergency Alerts - Should be a settings option, not an app
--Gmail - Available on market
--Gallery - Really buggy, bring back the 3D Gallery
--Help Center - Should be a settings option, not an app
--IM - Does anyone even use messaging clients anymore? Much better market alternatives
--Maps - Available in market
--News/News & Weather - Better market alternatives
--Skype mobile - No FFC deems this worthless
--Slacker - Available from market
--VZ Navigator - redundant and subpar to Android nav
-Install non essential apps to the /data portion and let us uninstall if we want!
UI Issues
-Blue icons on blue bar are very hard to see
-Occasionally, icons switch back and forth between blue and white
-Icons are not appealing
-White launcher dock doesn't play well with all background - especially ones of dark color - allow dock to be changed/removed
-A lot of home redraws
Camera/Camcorder Issues
-Flash is inconsistent. Occasionally take pictures and flash goes off too early.
-UI has many bugs - namely sidebar being transparent in some locations
-Full HD recording is capabale, but missing, why?
-No designated button is a major fault of design. Allow volume rockets to be used to take picture.
Wallpaper Issues
-Magic smoke live wallpaper does not function - appears as a single solid color
Browser Issues
-Icon is misleading
-Allow browser homepage to be set as nothing - blank homepage or as bookmarks
Market Issues
-Not updating to newest market
-Multiple downloads
-Downloads occasionally do not process
Audio/Video Issues
-Audio popping - occurs for me now, but not during Froyo
-General phone volume, especially in call volume, needs an increase
-Occasionally, notifications do not sound
-Taking over a minute for any audio player just to initialize
-Sometimes the phone just freezes up playing music, the green led stays lit constantly, and I have to unplug it from the charger and it isn’t until I unplug it from the audio jack that it becomes responsive again
-Video playback hesitates every so often
Response Issues
-Touch response isn't always accurate and sometimes have to touch twice to allow response
-MAJOR ISSUE: Not my problem, but multiple reports of the phone touch response not working at all after update. No fix.
-When plugged into AC charger, or USB, phone loses responsiveness and touch screen loses accuracy
Other Issues
-Phone overheats when on charge
-A lot of random reboots - did not occur in Froyo
-Notification light occasionally does not work
-2.3.3 still has issues handling dual core processors
-Phone occasionally won't wake up
-Phone takes 3-4 seconds to wake up
-When coming out of "sleep mode", I've experienced several system force closes as the devise gets passed the lock screen, then the led stays on, and goes dim when the screen times out.
Solution to all problems: Allow unlocking of bootloader.

I have had issues unlocking the bootloader

What he said

Dislikes:
* Why 2.3.3 instead of 2.3.4 as the later fixes known issues with dual cores.
* Excessive Bloatware as it slows down the phone considerably.
* Notification Icons...hate the color and it makes it hard to see them. Maybe allow us to change them?
* Latest Blur for those that like it, not that I do.
* Unlocked Boot Loader!!!!
I will add more as I think of them.
Bob

Unlock the bootloader!!!

Bluetooth connectivity is sh*t for me as well, but was the same on the froyo version.

Some intermittent skipping/popping (about once or twice per half hour) while listening to music/podcasts.

a few times a day my phone will at random hit a glitch somewhere and SOD then reboot

my X2 is significantly smoother / faster now so I am enjoying the overall GB update, but I am experiencing the following issues once I moved to GB:
Significant idle battery drain vs froyo. I get max 12hrs off of full charge instead of 16-18hrs on standard battery with same usage.
Tends to re-draw the homepage when exiting apps, but not always. Seems to be at random.

Phone takes 2-3 seconds to turn the screen on after being off for a few minutes. Not a major problem but annoying.

Such a bold statement and nothing backing it up? Don't say something like this and say nothing else...

So far nothing to hinder my enjoyment of the phone. I'd say increase the speakerphone volume.

When coming out of "sleep mode", I've experienced several system force closes as the devise gets passed the lock screen, then the led stays on, and goes dim when the screen times out. Definitely not a huge bummer, I absolutely love this device over last week

[ICS][GSM]XT910-ROM Experiences from EternityProject-OTA

~~ Stopped Running ICS!! ~~ (for a Reason)
Hi to everyone,
i just want to tell you about my experiences of the ICS-ROM for the RAZR XT910 GSM-version.
First of all, i think that the ics in todays status is more worth than the "old" 2.3.5-rom.
Yes, there are bugs, but if you don't need some features, you could live with it
So here's my list of bugs found:
sometimes background picture disappears or just show's half (reboot fixes)
the gallery is slow on loading (only first time, but load it... otherwise it could crush)
sent mms were not shown in the messaging history
photo editor crushes lots of times
bluetooth does send data, but still does not recieve nything
the lock screen sometimes can't be unlocked (just use next bug)
you can bypass the lockscreen by pushing the home button
while switching music the standard player crushes
some apps does not work (they aren't made for ics now)
BUT some apps just crush the first time, second try they work
app overview screens can be switched fast, but widget screens are very slow in the menu
flash seems to be unsupported
if you don't work with english language, both are mixed (reboot does not fix)
while tiping a number the background becomes pixelized (reboot fixes)
some widgets can't be added to the homescreen
smart actions crushes (uninstall all updates and reboot fixes the bug - DO NOT UPDATE AGAIN!!)
shows time for + 0:00 timezone
MotoCast appears as test app (seems to be not modified for ICS)
ockscreen crushes several times after pushing power bottun
data error while getting free coins/crystals/bottles in apps
4 software buttons aren't enlighted (sometimes reboot fixes)
market crushes while using it by update-notification of android
But there's not everything bad or bugy. Here are some things that work correctly (for me):
sms sending and receiving
make and take calls
make photographs
alarm function
restore root from previous version with OTA rootkeeper
market
app updates
loading and installing apps
wlan
data networks (GPRS / 3G / HSDPA)
standard browser
downloads via browser
google maps
google+ app
adding gmx-account / sending and receiving mails
taking screenshots by POWER + VOLDOWN
autofocus while taking videos (did not work on 2.3.5)
setting and using smart actions (with nonupdated version)
So i think the main parts of the os are working and it's usefull. i'll run this ics-ota till the official ota will be published.
PS: i'll add some more bugs and working features after longer tests
PPS: Sorry for my bad english
greetings,
Sh4itan
restarted usage of red color.
if anyone else uses this ota you could provide your information about bugs and working features in this post!
2 problems that make me go back to Gingerbread:
- the phone gets to be pretty warm (not hot) and that has some impact on the battery
- sometimes it does not remember wireless passwords and you have to put them in manually

The battery life in gingerbread sucks also.
I hope the ics update brings better battery life.
If not,the razr is end off story.

Till now i've not noticed any change in battery life... maybe it's little better, if you don't do very much, but in usage it's the same... Dead after max 14h...
ICS is draining the battery fast if you don't use SetCPU or something like that. It seems to not scale the CPU to the minimum frequency almost permanently when the display is off.
If you use SetCPU you'll see that you can save a lot of battery life when the device is in standby.

There's some weirdness going on with the CPU governors in the ICS leak. It includes the hotplug governor, but default is interactive (which was a firm favourite of mine on single core devices). The second core doesn't seem to be sleeping properly, and the frequency steps seemed a bit large to me.
Oh well, more governors is nice when we can't add more ourselves, eh?

while using AnTuTu CPU Master to set the cpu to scaling variable between 300MHz and 800MHz and deleting/backup some side running bloatware with Titanium Backup ★ root the battery life risen sharply.
While doing some pretty normal stuff like sending sms, using google maps with WLAN and doing research on the internet, my battery has endured two days!
And it's not the RAZR MAXX
Stopped running ICS!!
'cause i realised after every 're'-update (flashed back to 2.3.5 and went to ics again) there appears other bugs...
after third try keyboard stopped working!!!
installing this leak is very unstable and it's pretty sure to get unlogged bugs...
maybe after several try's there could be a 'perfect' working version of ics
but i'll try it no more
now running The Arctic 3.0.5 GSM

Problems after jellybean update

I am noticing some problems with my s3 after the official jellybean update. It feels like it has been rushed to the phone. For example it doesn't have the quick reply feature in the notification window. It does for missed calls but not for messages. This is one the most anticipated features for me. Also when watching you tube and you don't want the screen to rotate it now does. I want to lock the rotation so I only get the small video at the top when my phone is on its side. It worked before jellybean update. Also auto brightness has changed. When auto brightness is selected you can manually turn it up with the slider in the notification window and it disables auto brightness and changes to what you set on the slider. Now on jellybean you have to uncheck the auto brightness box and then slide. Little features like this are starting to make me feel like it has been a massive rush to get jellybean on to the s3 which is ironic seen as though it took long enough. I have the international i9300 model s3. Is anybody else noticing the problems I have stated? Does anybody know a way of changing/getting the features? Thanks.
They were definitely to busy with the Note II, I mean come on at least give their flag ship the same/some of the features that a bigger version of the S3 has... That sexy multitasking should have been on the initial jelly bean update.

I know what you mean. The note got great features like the multi window. Apparently that's coming before the new year but I highly doubt that. Are you noticing the same problems I am? Another problem I found is when screen goes off after inactivity you used to be able to press the home button a moment after it goes off and it would turn the screen back on leaving you at the page you was. Now the home button takes you back to the home when you press it. It's annoying you have to go back to the app.

Me too, my problem is the battery with jb lj4
I think there is a few little niggles but overal its pretty much the same.
The autobrightness don't disable automatically now when you adjust the slider as you can now actually adjust the autobrightness brightness, Not sure why though.
Google Now - leaving it active at the mo, but not really found any usefullness from it as yet. The Time home feature is ok, would be good if it actually showed the route I take home - Via motorway, rather than the route through city center which i don't take!!
The new notifcation bar - its ok, nothing major. Expect a bit of all these features will improve over time as well once apps get proper updates. Some work but don't have full functionally - Songpop has no notifications now for example.
Battery Life - I did find that my normal phone use on ISC which included about 50/60 mins worth of calls etc wi-fi left on all the time but only actually connected to wi-fi at home (just 2G & 3G at work) i would have about 55/60% battery life left by the time i got home from work, on Jelly Bean - with the same useage i had about 40/45% left. I am now back to the same as before on ISC, but i didn't disable google now or anything just turned Wi-Fi off when left home and turn it back on when home - results was 55/60% battery remaining a as on ISC. Seems that the Wi-Fi drains when not connected - either it keeps on searching which it might not of done on ISC or its the Google Now doing something (Does say improve location by keeping wifi on - does this even if not connected!!) - Least this way i can still use google now and see how it improves its tags overtime.
I am now using a App called WiFi Timer to automatically switch Wifi on and off when i leave/get home.
Love that it now has voice downloaded so you can text etc with no data connection - find its more accurate now as well!
Never had the small vids on Youtube when rotated phone so not sure about that. Take it disabling autorotate doesn't do this?
Good and Bad
My experience is as follows:
Good:
Sheer speed, no perceivable lag.
A problem I had with only half the SMS notification tone being played (before it cut off) has gone away.
Bad:
Battery drain terrible even when idle. Turning off Google Now, Location Services and Samsung Push Notification fixed this.
When I activate Smart Stay, the screen does not want to turn off 80% of the time - even when I'm not looking at it.
When I wake the phone using the home key, it exits the app I was in. Previously, this would wake the device and return you to the current app (after unlocking). I have a partial work around using the PreHome app; this way the app is still visible underneath the PreHome dialogue box and I just need to press Back to get to my app again.
Widgets, seem to refresh less regularly, particularly Messaging and Gmail widgets which seem to hardly even refresh when I want them too.
Of No Consequence:
The red charging led is a little dimmer when charging.
Overall:
The speed benefits outweigh the niggles - just!

Yep i know, but this app is far better as it lets you setup different profiles for mornings, evenings & weekends etc which the inbuilt one don't. :good:
root?
i may just root my phone as i really am not happy with this jellybean update, nothing has really improved for me, if i root it and install a rom like codename all the features like quick reply would be there right?

3.15.651.16 JB Bug List

I have a Buddy who works on the Sprint Android team. If you guys will list legitimate repeatable bugs, I will submit them to him. You must be on a stock ROM (deodexed and/or rooted still qualifies), but if you have any other modifications, please get someone who is stock to verify.
Please see post 2 for bug list
Please list the Bug report in this Format

Bug List for 3.15.651.16
Confirmed
[BUG]Screen Stays Black after Phone Call ends
[BUG] Proximity sensor Issues - related to making calls; while on a call, if pull phone away from face the screen doesn't turn on, without hitting the power button..
[BUG]Notifications in Drawer are not Actionable/Expandable
[ANNOYANCE]cant turn off the power saver notification option in settings/apps/power
[ANNOYANCE] Battery Icon color doesn't match rest of theming
[BUG] Wifi Connectivity Issues (Possible fix is to turn off DLNA option)
[BUG] Navigation freezing/crashing
[BUG] Google Now FCs when you ask it 'What song is this?'
[BUG] New Lag introduced on HTC stock keyboard keyboards. Noticeable on Stock, swiftkey, etc.
[BUG] While BT is on, voice typing occasionally does not work. Toggling off BT fixes immediately.
[BUG] Bad location data (Non-GPS); presumably using tower info. Some people have been reported in the wrong state; others, quite far from actual location
[Annoyance] LTE scan interval changed from 30 seconds to 5 seconds, which has impacted those not in LTE area.
[BUG] Notification volume is at max on reboot and changing the volume resets to the set level.
Unconfirmed [I need more than one person to confirm this in a bug]
[ANNOYANCE] Facial Recognition to unlock is slow to load now.
[BUG] Haven't seen this one mentioned yet. If I send a text message longer than 160 characters it gets split up, but only the first part actually gets sent. This is using the stock text message app, not Google Voice or anything like that.
[BUG] Wifi frequency has to be set to 2.4 ghz to connect to router [Please confirm if you normally run 5 ghz, or you just have to set to 2.4 to make it work]

interesting. a few things that i've noticed others having: cant turn off the power saver notification option in settings/apps/power. some are having wifi connectivity issues (possible fix: uncheck DLNA from settings/wifi/advanced). some are having graphic issues with the stock keyboard (possible fixes: 3+ power cycles, rotate from portrait-landscape-portrait, change keyboard type then change it back)
The screen won't come back on (without me hitting power) when pulling the phone away from my face while on a call.

Proximity sensor doesn't work correctly, sync icon lingers for a while in notification bar, can't swipe to expand email in notification pull-down.
When show Keyboard arrows checked shows white blank where they would go.
When I leave house WiFi shows still connected and won't switch to Mobile data until I toggle on/off switch in settings.
Open WiFi networks sign in pages linger.
Internet slower.
Screenshot capture much more difficult.
Media link has to be toggled on/off with repeated use.

So the MMS apk in the 1.22 version of ICS did the toggle where if I send a picture while connected to WiFi, the 3g data will kick on briefly while still connected to WiFi, send the pic, then toggle 3g back off. In the 2.13 version and this new 3.15 version, it doesn't do that. Like, ill be connected to WiFi and try sending a pic and the 3g data will not toggle on in the background. I have to manual turn WiFi off, wait for data to toggle on, send the pic, then turn WiFi back on and that's a long annoying process.

[ANNOYANCE] Missing speech to text (microphone) on keyboards (i know this was probably an intentional design change, but i hate it, why would you remove functionality that worked perfectly, yes i know you can do it via the Now app, but having to jump out of messaging/conversation to go to another app to quickly respond with voice is ridiculous) did anyone else notice it's still in the dialer app for searching contacts though?
[ANNOYANCE] No scrolling wallpaper option (not a big deal because it really doesn't buy you anything. but other launchers give you the option to lock it or wrap it)
[BUG] Proximity sensor wile making calls; when dialing with phone away from face the screen instantly goes dark, won't come back on until power button press.
[BUG] Light sensor; capacitive buttons don't light like they should. If light is dim enough that i can't see them yet bright enough that the phone disagrees i have to cover the sensor with my thumb to trick it into lighting them.
[BUG] Graphical glitches; probably a unique thing, but my battery widget has a button to view desktop (wallpaper) unobstructed, when returning from that the screen now goes wonky/staticky for a second, quite likely the widget though
[BUG] Graphical glitches; in maps i found that zooming in and out on the satellite view caused a bunch of annoying flickers. maybe a localized thing, i wiped cache and dalvik from recovery and that seems to have corrected for now.
[ANNOYANCE] Bookmarks widget can no longer be resized. This is obviously an HTC/Sense thing but it seriously changed the size of the widget on one of my screens and was letting it lay overtop of other widgets and app icons. There's the "Internet" widget that's a smaller size but it seems to never take a break. I use Firefox exclusively for my browser but in my power stats "Internet" was far and away the biggest battery hog on my phone. I must constantly be updating the screenshots of the pages it lists.
Also, the HTC sense input keyboard is all wacky! Doesn't work!

That used to happen to me...now it works. I really don't know what was going on with that...
One bug I'm seeing and idk if it's been mentioned
If you calibrate the keyboard and then use it, there will be some tearing and the keyboard will just look messed up overall
Also, the lockscreen doesn't have it's on set keyboard. So if you set a pin with the default HTC Sense keyboard you're pin lockscreen will use that number keyboard. But if you use SwiftKey, you get that number keyboard.
I don't think I remember ICS being like this

Wake screen WITHOUT mechnical button (PWR/Volume)

I would like to wake from screen timeout without using any type of mechanical button (Power or Volume Buttons). I was ideally hoping the proximity sensor with the proper app would work but all the apps I have tried (MANY) have not worked properly on the Atrix 4G (cover proximity sensor screen OFF else ON, maybe with delay option before turning OFF) I would be happy If I could touch anywhere on the screen to wake the screen. My Atrix 4G is running factory 2.3.4 and is rooted and my wife's Atrix 4G phone is running 2.3.6 and has not yet been rooted. Seems like a rock solid working app to perform this functionality should be available for the Atrix 4G/MB860 smartphones?
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Don't want to wear out the fingerprint/power button!!!
Regards, Ron
PS-- I would gladly pay a nominal price for a working app (better than wearing out the mechnical switches)
that is not posible
Sent from my MB860 using xda app-developers app
It is possible, but it means it would have to keep the phone in a state of semi-awakedness at all times, never letting it go into deep sleep, thus draining the battery pretty quickly. Also monitoring the sensor constantly, thus draining even more battery. It also means the sensor would emit the faint red light all the time, which many find annoying.
Battery drain will be your best friend.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876945
Thanks for the replies!!
I am aware the phone could NOT be in "deep sleep power save mode" and work without using either the power or possibly the volume button. A couple of Google Play "Pay Only" apps indicate they can be configured to wake the display using the side volume button (this would at least preclude the use of the power button to wake the display). I assume the volume button would still adjust the audio level? If anyone can comment on how well these apps work on the Atrix 4g, that would save me from purchasing an app that doesn't work as desired. From my understanding, the display uses the lions share of the battery bugdet. There are also apps that claim the display can be turned on by shaking/flipping or using the proximity/light sensors (anyone get any of these apps to work on the Atrix 4G?). The phones battery life should be extended by simply turning off the display. Waking the phone by something other that the power button would just be ONE of my usage models. If I want to get the maximum battery life, I would wake the phone using the power switch and not use any after market apps.
Thanks Again Very Much for your forum posts and any further help would be greatly appreciated.

It is possible, but it means it would have to keep the phone in a state of semi-awakedness at all times, never letting it go into deep sleep, thus draining the battery pretty quickly. Also monitoring the sensor constantly, thus draining even more battery. It also means the sensor would emit the faint red light all the time, which many find annoying.

widgetlocker lets you wake the phone by volume buttons, by disabling the stock lockscreen and replacing its own locker. it doesnt effect the sleep mode but disabling lockscreen may cause problems like unwanted call accepting. widgetlocker can put its locker over the callscreen but it still wont display the calling number. you may first try the app and then decide to buy it

Possibility to wakeup with a shake is solely depends on the kernel implementation.

[Design Complaints] List your KitKat Issues Here

I didn't see a thread to list any problems / issues that you have with the new TMO KitKat release, so I created this one! I'll start:
With the new version, I can't put Google Now on the main lockscreen. It is placed on the lockscreen to the right of the initial lock screen, but I have to swipe to see that, and I may as well just unlock the device, where the Google Now widget is on my home screen. With 4.3 I had that Google Now widget on the main lock screen.
For those who may not have used it, one can swipe left on the lockscreen and view widgets. More screens can be added, although the list of widgets available for the lockscreen is somewhat limited.

HD 720/1080p MP4 videos (downloaded HD music videos) stutter occasionally and feel like they maybe slightly out of audio sync. Contrast seems lower and brightness seems to high, faces seem more washed out and seems not as high resolution as previous 4.3 and 4.1.2. I see more blocks and pixelation that I remember.
Beats Audio does not sound as good, less bass and lower highs make it sound noticeably worse especially on headphones.
Weird wallpaper issue when using my own wallpaper. After certain length of time in apps like chrome or newsstand, after exiting, the wallpaper, if not on BlinkFeed, is not extended all the way past the dock. There appears a shadow affect or crop issue were the scrolls bar is. If you scroll to right and back it fixes.
Poor battery life, but this could be an issue with certain apps like Google Plus (it just used my entire 500mb in a couple hours with no auto backup or photo backup).
A little sluggish in certain system menus that you wouldnt think it would be, cant remember which ones, could be while moving folders around.
When WiFi optimization is on, it frequently does not want to reconnect well after leaving a wifi area and returning. It shows connected but speed is very slow.
The HTC Messaging app contact photo issue from 4.3 has been fixed
Personally I think they restricted the memory requirement too much for phones with more than 1gb ram.
I would downgrade back to 4.3 but dont know how
Ive gone from 4.1.2 to 4.3 to 4.4.2 within only a few days so I was kinda familiar with how things worked on the previous versions before I updated to 4.4.2, plus I have OCD)
It's good to hear the 4.3 messaging contact picture bug is fixed. Too bad I won't be updating to 4.4. No flash. Lame

I hadn't realized Flash didn't work. I don't really use it. It is odd, since the flash player is still installed on my device. Stupid Google...
Got Flash working
I got flash working on my kitkat by using the following instructions:
http://www.cultofandroid.com/49840/install-flash-player-android-4-4-kitkat/
I realized today that the zoom bar for the camera is gone, so now a pinch is required.

Two issues I'm having:
- When I connect to my external speaker via bluetooth, my wifi speed drops tremendously. Didn't happen before.
- My screen keeps randomly turning on. It's very annoying. Can't find a reason or a setting that could be causing it.
Also (this one isn't really a "bug"), when I plug in my phone, the screen turns on. I remember previous HTC phones used to do this, but they stopped it with the One, which I liked. But unfortunately it's back now
My picture quality is way down with this update. On 4.3 I had the stock camera app and the Nexus 5 camera app on it and they took great photos and corrected the faint purple hue I'd get sometimes. On 4.4 there is tons of noise and color hues even in bright lit rooms! So I'm back on 4.3 for now and the camera is great again.
Battery life is worse for me
After 5 days with KitKat now, battery life has not improved. I used to burn at about 3-3.5% / hour in a normal day on 4.3 JB. It is now around 4.5-5% / hour. The battery use screen on Sense does not offer any helpful information either. Now, BetterBatteryStats is unable to collect partial wakelock information (it can with root, which I don't have).
BBS does allow me to see that my CPU is in deep sleep about 7 out of the last 8.5 hours. That doesn't seem right. I can't see any apps that would be waking it that much and I have only had screen on for 15-20 minutes reading email, etc. It seems like something is hold the CPU awake, but BBS won't tell me any more.
I have turned off Blinkfeed and Auto sync and it made no difference. I am starting to disable apps now.
Any other suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? (preferably without rooting)

Turn off automatic sync for all applications, shut off GPS (set location status to medium or low).

Thanks. I had already done both of those.
Keep pushing the suggestions. I am trying to see if I can correct without a factory reset.
Well, I seem to have fixed my battery drain issues. I did a factory reset and started from scratch. *gah*
I did do an adb backup before, but it wouldn't restore. So, the upside is I can setup everything from scratch and add apps, etc. one at a time.
no more option to set lockscreen wallpaper......sux
