This has been a bit frustrating.
When you go through set-up, it gives you the option of adding a Google account which is necessary for using Market. But it also syncs your e-mail into the Gmail app and syncs your contacts. I don't want either of those because my Exchange has both contacts and I want to use the HTC mail widget for my Gmail.
I have tried various ways to prevent this from happening, but all have failed.
1. I went through set-up connecting to wifi and adding my Gmail. Then I went to options and removed syncing. But my e-mail and contacts are still in the Gmail app.
2. I did not connect to wifi so that I can first go to options and removing syncing, but that didn't help.
3. I created another generic gmail account just so I can use it for market. However, now that account is connected to my GTalk app instead of my normal account.
So here is my goal:
Use my everyday Gmail with GoogleTalk app, but without it syncing my Gmail contacts or my e-mail with the Gmail app.
Is there any way to do this? Am I missing something? Can you go to the syncing options without actually setuping the Google account first?
Thanks for the help.
Also, while we are on the topic:
What is the main difference between the two? I keep reading online that the Gmail app is supposed to be Push e-mail, but I have also read just as many posts saying it doesn't work or it doesn't do that.
I figured out a solution:
1. Go through set-up and connect to Wi-Fi, but do not set-up a Google account. Skip it.
2. Go to Settings>Syncing>Checking Auto-Sync and Sync in Background
3. Settings>Add Account>Google Account
And here is where you need some fast fingers...
4. Settings>Check Sync in Background and Auto-Sync and quickly click on Google Account you just set-up and uncheck Sync Contacts, Calendars, and E-mail.
I was able to uncheck e-mail sync, but it had synced some of my contacts already. That wasn't a problem b/c I haven't set up my Outlook account so I just deleted all the Google contacts it had synced. But I was fast enough where I didn't let it sync Gmail account.
Now no e-mails in Gmail app and I can use Google Talk.
Anyone know why my phone might have stopped syncing email automatically? I checked my account settings and it still says sync for email is on and find is auto with background enabled.
Hi
I am using 2 imap accounts within the messaging application but the emails are nto being pushed to my device (the problem described in this thread.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432778 )
Yesterday I found the "Accounts and Sync Settings" application in my phone and as I checked it there, I found that my email accounts are listed there but the synchronisation settings for them is set to "OFF" which may be the reason why is the push not working...
I checked all the settings regarding the email accounts and their delivery options but they are set to be pushed, there is no data saver or whatever - simply are conditions are fine but I can't get them to sync in the background (yes - the folders are set to work in the background sync mode....)
Anyone knows what is wrong? - why are not the imap accounts enabled to use the background sync???
thanks
Hello xda,
Thinking of disabling auto sync email (gmail) for battery saving purposes since I do not need to check it as often.
If I do disable auto sync, what would be the best way of updating the inbox without me having to open up gmail every time I'm connected to a network?
Is there a widget or button that is available that fetches email updates on demand?
Have a good one.
Setup:
Stock Z3
I use the native mail app with active synch for work
I have a gmail account also in the native mail app
Both of these are configured in the "mail" settings and operate fine
Under the "google" settings I have pretty much everything turned on for sync but have turned off the gmail sync which I would think would conflict?
The issue is that if I get a gmail message, and read it in the native mail app, the next time it syncs in seems to make that same email a new email again and shows unread.
What am I missing? I assume that if I want the other google stuff to sync that I have this configured correctly but something is off from a gmail perspective.
