I bought a 32gb micro SD card on eBay, I tried formatting it in my 3vo and it gave me an error about vfat file system... When I tried to copy my files to the card it shows them all on my computer but when I put it in my phone only some of the files show....like 15MB out of 8GB...
I assume I need to form the card to a different file type? Fat32?
I have since been refunded for the card and the seller said not to mail it back...so I am hoping there is a fix for this.... Any help would rock!

It could be fake. I read an article and saw a tool to check. Ftr I bought a 32gb from newegg.com for $60. Ilk check my laptop for the link to the article

No, its cool, I appreciate the help. I ended up downloading an SD card tester on the market and it came back as: fake or damaged. I guess I'm even anyway since I was issued a refund... The guy has 100% since like 2005, in sure he is looking to keep that....

going through the EXACT same thing right now, running that program to check it out, the guy offered a refund (but wants me to send it back, oh well) i'll probably end up going through new egg i guess

For some reason I thought I had put my other 8GB card into the phone, and when I went to look, sure enough the phone had the Class 4 card in it. What were/are the contents of the SD card. Am I missing anything I didn't have before? Did I delete my movies?
You shouldn't have any problems, I started mine with a blank 16 gig from the first boot of the phone and I have no problems and nothing is missing.

There was some sample music and the Green Hornet 3D movie. I wiped mine as well, but copied the contents to my computer hard drive first. If you want a copy, you can send me your empty card and I'll fill 'er up for you.

I didn't reformat my card but I have a feeling the girl at Radio Shack who was setting up my phone my have. I spent all day trying to figure out why The Green Hornet wouldn't play, finally figured out it wasn't there. I don't have that or any of the sample pics that are supposed to be on there. The thing that sucks is that the movie has DRM and I'm sure it would be illegal for someone to post a download link on here or something. That is one of the reasons I might try and have the phone replaced tomorrow. I'm a little annoyed that I didn't get everything I paid for. Even if I were to simply watch it once and delete it, that's my choice.

I'm in a similar boat and I would LOVE for you to hook with up with the original files! Can I mail you a. 4.7GB DVD to get them? I only have one SD card and can't be without it.
Wouldn't it being licensed make it okay to upload...can't play it without the license, right? If anyone does UL it or put in their dropbox or something, I would appreciate a link...I too formatted the card (as well as hard resetting) the minute I got the phone in my grubby hands....

Someone here already put it in a dropbox. Dropbox shut the link down because of too much activity (not because of content). If anyone wants to upload it again, I'd suggest something like filedropper.com.

okay guys i just picked up a new 32gb class 10 sd card off ebay but i cant get it to work with the phone, i poped it in and from with in the settings menu i cant get it to mount as storage, so i tried with recovery (twrp) to format the sd card, and i get the following:
formatting/sdcard...
E:format_volume: fs_type "vfat unsupported"
--SDCARD Partition wipe complete
it wont mount usb storage with recovery either, it says it does but nothing appears on my computer
any help would be great, thanks

i finally got a connection with twrp and my laptop and tried formating the card with the laptop using fat32 now when i boot up the phone it says blank or unknown state id card, in the notification bar, i try to click format but then i get a popup that says external media in unknown state...
Seems like its a dead sd.

It might be a fake, hence the problems. I've been burned twice with fake cards from ebay. Luckily i was able to get my money back but it's still a pita.
It is most likely a fake. Try to look it up to your computer and see if you computer can actually recognize it. Also, try copying more than 2GB of data to it and try opening some of the files afterwards to make sure it works. I know that there are a lot of cards on eBay that says it is 32GB but is really just 2GB.

starting to look like that is the issue, after several formats of the card i thought i was able to transfer 17.5gb of data to it sucessfully with my laptop, however as soon as i poped it in my phone and turned the phone on i started getting more card errors, so i removed it, put it back in my laptop to check it and all the data looks weird, like chinese /arabic/alien/WTFever writing....
here's how the titles of the files came out:

i contacted the company, awaiting response

the guy emailed me back right away apoligizing and telling me he would give a full refund, so i guess i'll just take that, any GOOD place to get a 32gb micro sd card cheaper than BB?
I'd check Newegg and Amazon, normally you can get good deals from them. Or use Google Shopping and see what comes up.

Getting this message for some reason, and can't find a resolution. Copying my important stuff off now, then will probably reformat with the phone.
It started when I put the card in the replacement 3VO I ordered, because my first one was acting funny. About half a day later it game me the SD message, (sent it right back). Ever since I put it back in my first one it's been giving me that message.
Anyone have any ideas? Is my SD actually just going bad? Is it a corrupt file? Something entirely different?
Thanks to anyone who can help me get this figured out. Been searching Google since, but haven't found anything really relevant to the Evo 3D.

Hard to say, but you're doing the right thing coping everything off and then reformatting. My suggestion would be to also reformat it in the phone too. If this still happens, try another sdcard in the phone so you know for sure if it's the phone or the card.
Ok. Just went through with it. Seems like it's good so far. Didn't format it on the PC, just the phone, then reset the phone, then copied only my original stuff back on. So far so good. I'll add another reply in a couple days stating whether or not it holds up.

i've had the same issue with an aftermarket class 6 8GB sdcard I used in my EVO for a year. my experience has been once you start getting errors with an sdcard, they are on their last leg.
i would look into getting a replace or have a spare, just to be prepared, as its rough modifying your phone w/o an sdcard! too bad there isnt a tool which could give us more detail on the life/reliability of the sdcard!

i believe the software is forgetting parts of the sdcard and sending the error.
it happened to me on my 16gb class 10
also happened on my wife's evo 3d with the stock card.
FIX: only fix i found is to get all info off with your pc then format the card and load everything back on through the phone or pc.
if anyone knows more i would like to know.
So far so good here. Took everything off my card, formatted it in the phone, put my stuff back on, and everything seems ok. Seems like if you just take your card out and toss it in another phone that'll happen. Didn't have that issue between my Hero and this one, so I'm not sure what the issue was.

Ok so here are my problem. I never have had such a big sd card before and I would like to know if it's typical behavior for our phone. I have tested it in my pc and it works fine but when I reboot the phone it recognizea only nine GB and claims that it is empty, sorta like a partition. But I didn't create one. Taking it out and putting back in is a workaround but inefficient. I'm on nrgz newest ROM. Full flash and wipe... from two different downloads. ___ any ideas?

i would say try formatting sd card in phone. then check file size.
You should stick to name brand stuff in my opinion, but everything has a percentage of failure.

I agree with post above me, brand name stuff is the way to go to get your moneys worth on these kinds of purchases. Sandisk, Patriot, Samsung.. I've used all 3 and havent had any problems but now im waiting for a price drop on the 64gb

I decided to get a new larger microsd and it just came in.
Can I just mount this on one of my Linux boxes and copy everything over from the 16GB to 32GB one or is there something special which the Note does with it?
I have SD and USB adaptors so I can actually mount both devices at the same time.

Well... the 16GB card flaked out upon insertion into SD adaptor and then into Linux box (write lock switch in place). Didn't look any better in USB adaptor on Windows. Says unformatted even when back in the phone.
So everything is fubared.
Not sure what component to throw away either.
Knew I should have manually copied the files while the card was still operational in the machine...
The key to backups is redundancy. If it's important you need more than a single backup.

The card was operating fine in the machine but I had seen some issues recording video and DragonBox+ didn't want to update itself. But it wouldn't update itself on either SD or internal, so I thought it was something else. So I ordered another card.
I actually found this card in the park in an adaptor last year and was surprised it even worked. I went to the trouble to save off the previous person's data in the hope of being able to return it to it's owner, but couldn't fine any identifying name address information.
The photos and video should all be synced to Google+ - I'm more annoyed about having to go and remove all the apps and re-install because you can't just refresh the install over the missing files on the SD.

I was amazed today to find that the new microsd seems to have all the files on it (11GB worth of files)! A friend thinks that the backup feature restored all the data overnight.
Oddly, ES File Explorer seems to indicate that the card only has 16GB, though. So I'll have to do some more digging tonight...
