Hi i wanted to know if sense ui will ever be ported to samsung moment
i wanted to buy this phone but the moment has a faster processor and a qwerty keyboard ...
i love the moment but i love the sense ui on the hero..
so i decided to go with the moment.. hoping that sense ui will be ported over..
HTC Sense is a software UI layer on top of the Google Android OS developed and maintained by HTC only. Business wise, it would be rather stupid to give away HTC Sense to competitors like Samsung so they can port the Sense UI to their Samsung Moment phone. So the Sense UI is a business advantage for HTC.
It's safe to say you won't see the official Sense UI ported to Samsung Moment anytime soon, unless Samsung provides a UI layer that looks very similar to the Sense UI, then you'd have some sort of copyright infringement and HTC may file a lawsuit against Samsung.
So the straightforward answer is: You won't see the official Sense UI by HTC ported to any other non-HTC Android phone.
Thanks for your reply.
Is sense ui a theme?
or is it the actual operating system.
the main reason why i went with the moment was i heard the hero lagged.
that the sense ui ran slow when multiple apps were open
well the samsung moment has an 800mhz cpu and another cpu just for the modem... but i don't the speed for that one lol
so pretty much the moment is a speed monster compared to other android phones.
i love htc [i had an htc vogue wm6.5v13 & zen her0]
but they were outdone this time =[

Sense UI is slightly more than a theme, but it can be ported to other phones as has already been done for the Sapphire/G1. However, since it is HTC software, to put it on a Samsung Moment would be effectively warez.
The 800mhz processor is a fair bit faster than that in the Hero, but then again the Hero has more memory. Both use separate processor cores for the radio, so that is very much a wash.
I certainly wouldn't say the Moment is a speed monster compared to other Android phones - the Motorola Droid is packing an Arm A8 Cortex core CPU, which is quite a bit faster clock for clock than the Arm11 architecture of the Moment/Hero etc.
Regards,
Dave
The here has a 428mhz or a 528mhz cpu does it not?

Yes it does, but CPU speed is not everything! I was really pointing out that the Moment almost certainly is not as fast at the Motorola Droid.

Warez?? I'm pretty sure Manila2D is HTC Software as well and it runs on the Omnia and Sense 2.5 is running on the Omnia2.

Warez = copyrighted software... and hence is not distributed on this forum.
If you'd like to give it a try, I would suggest that you obtain a copy of the Hero RUU someplace and extract the system.img from the ROM contained therein. From there, you should be able to find the correct pieces of the puzzle (hint: search the HTC forums for information on REMOVING SensUI or Rosie... that'll tell you what to put ON your phone).
Keep in mind. SenseUI was written for Android 1.5, so don't try to put it on any other version (it most likely will not work).
I was searching for some way to get rid of Sense UI without rooting my device and I ended up here in this discussion. Is there a way to, let us say, uninstall, or disable, or whatever, the Sense UI without rooting my device? Thank you

There's no way to completely remove it without rooting and changing ROM's.
You could install an alternative launcher e.g. LauncherPro, ADW etc. to get rid of it partially.
The droid is set for a 2.1 update and the UI looks great! Anyone know if the hero 2.1 will have animations like the one shown in the link below (youtube video)
http://phandroid.com/2009/12/21/android-2-1-on-the-motorola-droid/
No
because I believe the cpu on the droid is a generation better than the hero's.
In the mobile game, going from the Hero generation cpu to the cpu thats in the iPhone 3g S, snapdragon etc is quite a large jump.
Actually i believe the difference is only from 528mhz to 550mhz.
These caps are not even attainable without using SetCPU to force the frequencies either. I would expect the Droid to show barely any increase in performance
also you have to remeber that when the droid came out it was very laggy (worse than the hero was) and it took fixes in software, so if hero roms have sum fixes im sure we can run the same animations, epecially as we have a smaller screen so should take less memory.
Clock speed is irrelevant its like comparing one core from a 2.6ghz i7 against a 2.6ghz pentium 4. Also as far as I know the hero has no discrete graphics processing? the droid has the powervr sgx chip thats in the iphone 3gs/n900, I don't know if the UI in 2.1 is accelerated by the gpu but if it is the performance difference between the droid and the hero is huge.
Hello, the Hero runs Raging Thunder very smoothly, infact I was shocked at how well it ran. I'm sure the hero can handle those animations.
It also says that the thing that droid is running is android 2.1+Sense. So if we're getting 2.1 then that means that will be coming with it.. right?

Hello, I don't think this is going to be what our update will be.
well i think those animations will work on the hero...when it gets ported on it..
cause as u can see in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74MEoDVi7x8 the espresso rom has animations too, and they work on the hero (well not that fast, but thats because the rom isnt 100% yet)

The animations are not on that video, and I hope thats not the final rom. The app screen looks horrible! I like the current scheme on the hero, simple and effective.
well yeah they are not the saaaaame animations as the 2.1 on the droid, but there are animations when u wanna open menus etc.... just look further in the video...so that tells me: animations are possible
lets cross the fingers

Thats already possible with the current Hero! Just switch it on in the settings.
The animation I was looking for was the one where the app screen animates with translucent floating icons into place.
May be too intensive for the Hero, but we can always hope!
Is it possible to port the Droid rom to the Hero ? Because i like it
would be kinda cool....
The droid rom has allready been ported to the G1. So, a port for the Hero wont be far away
including its fancy animations?
because if the g1 can handle then the hero will also

Hi i have been wondering for quite some time on wether if i am able to Root my phone using the One click root method (From Unlockr) and do nothing with it. Meaning i do not want to load a custom rom. Would the phone still work (Meaning Rooted"Able to do anything such as Overclocking and etc") ?
Btw have anyone tried overclocking the Hero and tried playing 3d game like Zenonia? Does it still lag with the volume on ?
Any tips to improve 3d gaming on hero ?

Yes you can root without using a custom rom, but usually only on some roms. There is a guide around here somewhere (check wiki) to "root a virgin hero"
You can't overclock the Hero any more than stock as it runs at the max, though someone has hacked a kernal now to make it run faster it is only available in one custom rom. So no, there is no way to improve gaming on hero, though various custom roms play better than others.
What u mean is that there is a rom to make game run faster? BTW Villian rom looks like a good rom but no screenies for me to see the screen i mean launcher(Sense Ui or Nexus launcher). Does the villian rom works perfectly meaning does the phone have all the feature working?
I heard that 2.1 roms are able to play multitouch gaming? does the villian rom support it? Over clocking is a yes for villian rom right ?

There is no ROM designed just for 3d game performance, however some of them do perform better than other in that area. Look at this thread about 3d performance http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656818
VillianROM runs SenseUI and in my opinion very good. Very smooth and quick (it runs a lot quicker than stock 1.5 ROM's. Everything works on the phone with that rom loaded however the GPS can only only get a lock if you turn it on and reboot the phone (this might of been fixed in 5.3 i'm not sure)
Multi-touch should, in theory work on every ROM built from 2.0 onwards however in my experience the Hero Capacitive screen can be a little temperamental with it, however in answer to your question yes VillainROM does support it.
VillainROM isn't built off an overclocked kernel so no you can not over clock it. (the phone needs to be overclocked at kernel level not application) However as stated in the post above there is an overclocked kernel somewhere on here and someone has built a ROM around it if you can find it, check the wiki.
Thanks, Wez
Hi all,
Had my EVO 3D now for two days and it's a great phone, the 3D features are superb (probably a novelty but i'm enjoying them for now)
I've rooted and s-off'd my phone and the bootloader is unlocked.
I've installed a few roms, mostly sense, but pretty much everyone i have tried is quite laggy, not all the time but laggy in parts, now i was under the impression that this was pretty much the same phone (bar a few bits) as the sensation.
The sensation roms that i've had were superb, no lag (or very very little) and they worked perfect for the most part.
Is this because it's not been developed for -for very long? Or is this something which we will have to get used to?
EG: If anyones wondering what i'm on about, spin your carousel around and when it's about to re-align with the last window, it jitters slightly, the sensation on lets say insert coin never did this.
I'm running leedroid at the moment, the roms good it just stutters a bit, i've also tried king cobra, mikrunny, shooterbeats, the only one i've not tried is honeycombo.
Oh and i'm using lees kernel too at 1.5ghz max 400mhz min.
I'm not having a go at the dev's because in my eyes they're a bunch of geniuses whom we could not have our beloved androids without, my hat comes off to all of them, it's just i'm noticing a fair bit of lag through all the roms i've tried.
Any one elses input on this would be good.
Cheers.
I have used a few ROM/kernel combinations that would cause my second core (CPU1) to go completely offline. Its not supposed to be on all the time (although you can set it to be); but it is supposed to come on under heavy load. This tutorial helped me solve that problem. Maybe will help you too?

Thanks m8, I did get the app, bought it too nice app but i haven't noticed any change in terms of speed or performance and it does have that irritating lag when swiping between some screens.
I know sense isn't perfect but my DHD was smoother than this with sense 3.0 roms.
EDIT: Just checked the setting within system tuner pro (has to be pro, the free one doesn't allow the switching of the cores) , don't set it to boot, set it to init.d script instead, the second core hadn't come on active until i did this, it's probably going to rinse my battery but if it makes it smoother (which it has) then great.
Thanks man.
----------------------------------
So in short.
Buy system tuner pro.
Switch on all cores, via settings - Active tweaks - force all cpu's online - init.d
Go back and select CPU from main page.
Knock up the frequency to whats safe / needed.
Enjoy a smoother rom and a shorter battery life
i like fresh never lags on my phone stock kernel its probably as close to stock as you can get but it has a lot of goodies i don't like all the flashy colors of other rom's if that sounds like what u like check out fresh

I will do m8, thanks.
I've been living with the Desire HD and Sensation for some time now and the roms on both of those phones are superb, no lag whatsoever, they just work and i only realised how well when i put the two of them together and swiped the carousel, the sensation was about 10fps better off, very noticable when you compare them, i really hope the dev's get their heads together on this.

Yea i'm using Leedroid at the moment, it is the fastest rom out there for the GSM EVO3D but i think there is still room for improvement.
The title pretty much says everything. What should I do?
The reason I've stuck with the stock rom is;
- Beats (The actual HTC one, also present in all audio and toggle when watching video)
- May receive updates (see below)
- HTC's Camera
- Seems to be the most stable
However, I also want these;
- Good battery life (Which stock rom is just, awful at doing)
- Slightly faster performance (It's fast already but you do get some delay with actions, mainly cause of HTC's junk.)
- Android 4.2.1, mainly for the expandable notifications really, I'm fed up of having to pinch them all the time.
- CPU Limits (underclocking)
HTC still haven't given us the 4.2 update yet. They're absolutely awful at giving them. My Wildfire S got updated to 2.3.5 in Jan '12, long after better Android Systems. If I had the 4.2 update, I wouldn't be contemplating this. Samsung are way better at the updates. HTC need to take a leaf out of their book.
A custom HTC rom is my first choice but I have a feeling the battery will still be awful. CM10.1 is a good option but feels so innocent, and the HTC look has kind of been imprinted on my head.
I'm using the stock rom, rooted and customized a bit(still need to deodex it though). At any rate, I'm having pretty good luck with it thus far, now that it's tweaked a little.
That being said, there are some good options in the roms section that are pretty much all reported to help battery life, performance, etc. Elegancia seems to be really popular at the moment so you might check that one out.
And of course, patience is also key here, in that as time passes more devs will probably get one, more roms will come out, etc. Hope that helps.
hey
Hey im using the viper xl+ rom and it has everything you have mentioned.
Its Stable
Has HTC camera
and is very very stable.
You should give it a try.
If you need anything I could help with the kernal flashing and adb.

I would definitely go with the Viper XL ROM from Venom. It has been absolutely amazing. Performance is top notch, battery is top notch. Hats off to them. Really amazing rom.
Well considering how old this is I assume you already made a decision. That said if you are still looking I would go with Elegancia. The only other rom I tried was venom/viper and my experience was a train wreck. The rom was slow, had a tendency to need rebooted quite often and even after 2 weeks of cycles the batter was poor. Not to mention the force closes and the amount of utilities that seemed useless.
I put a custom rom on my phone out the box. I love ViperX+!
Three words, Yup.

I agree on Elegancia. It looks stock, no ui changes, the pull down menu is stock (unlike viper has too many options in the pull down) no bloatware (for me no AT&T crap) it's rooted and ready to be used. Tried Viper roms for about a day and my OCD was going crazy with so many options. I like it to be clean and simple also it doesn't have a carrier or author boot sounds or images (my stock ROM had an annoying at&t noise and carrier logo and viper had its own boot logo of a cobra and said Viper)

You can customize Viper in any way. If you don´t wanna have so much options, you can delete some of them. The Tweaks give you the ability, to change all in the way you like. That´s the freedom of Android Phones and Viper increases the possibilities.
Would love to run one of aosp, aokp or cm roms but the poor audio is off-putting. I appreciate this is a problem with HTC not releasing the drivers, but for now it keeps me on a stock based rom. I like the clean look of the sense-less Jellybean roms, the low and tinny speaker volume is a little off-putting.

Venom ROM
The Venom ROM is nice. Im just waiting for them to fix the volume rocker mod so I can change songs in Pandora without unlocking the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2098218
Lloir is working a CM10 AOSP ROM and the audio appears fine. The only tinny audio issue I had was with the HTC Inspire and that issue went away with JB ROMs.
I used viper xl on my old ATT HOX for what seems like forever. My single most favorite ROM I have ever flashed, next to CM7 on an inspire 4g. But truth be told I'm very happy with the stock roms performance, I deleted all the bloatware and crap i dont use and its performance and battery life are above average, im very satisfied. The only thing I'd change is the factory battery icon (id like to see actual percentage), and id like to have a landscape mode on the home screen.
stock ROM is stable and fast for sure but Custom ROM's have just some extra options and thats all. I am using ARHD from mike. Loves it !

It's fast, absolutely smooth, battery friendly and the support is great.

Android 4.2.1 only without Sense for now. If you choose rom not based on stock base then it couldn't be as stable because of many drivers which developers don't have from HTC
