[Q] Installing CM7 on Telus Fascinate - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
This is my first attempt at flashing a custom ROM on my phone i have a bit of experience flashing custom stuff from the PSP Scene but if anyone can offer a bit of advice on this I would appreciate it. I have poked around in the forums here and have seen a few guides for flashing a custom ROM on a Telus Fascinate but all of them seem to be slightly different and a few months old so the files referred to may or may not be out of date or the links are broken.
I currently have my phone rooted with the voodoo lag fix kernal running aand would like to install CM7
Ok so after all this long windedness here are my questions
1) the first step seems to be to install a non stock kernal can i us the voodoo kernal to install CM7 (i assume i have to turn off lag fix)?
2) Guides refer to installing the full version of the ROM first and then apply the update but the only files i seem to be able to find is the "nightlys" can i use the latest nightly when flashing?
If anyone has a latest and greatest guide and a working link to any of the files need it would be greatly appreciate
Thanks

Looked at this one previously since it was really the only one that includes having the voodoo kernal to start...my only question with it is which CM7 Rom to use. Can i just use the latest nightly coming from stock 2.2 or is there a Base CM7 that you have to start with then once thats installed upgrade to the latest nightly

I found this guide too (which seems to be newer) but i can't post there to the 10post rule

ROM suggestions for an intermediate-noob.

Hey guys. I would really love someone to shed some light on what's going on here.
My firmware version is 2.2.1
Baseband version is DL09
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
And build number is DL30
I'm running a super clean ROM I believe, but this week I would like to upgrade to the latest (fully stable) releases. I know there's a new modem and new kernels out. Can someone with experience point me in the right direction to get my phone up to the latest and greatest!
Thank you so much!
So I'm kinda new to the whole process, been hacking my fascinate for a month or two, but i'll share what i know, please anyone correct me if i'm wrong on any of this
*note* i assume as you say your an intermediate noob you should know how to flash kernels and roms with out any problems if not check out this tutorial:http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/05/08/complete-guide-how-to-flash-a-custom-rom-to-your-android-phone-with-rom-manager-full-backup-restore/
As far as i can tell EB01 is the best kernel there is right now, most if not all of the CURRENT rom versions are at least using part of it, most are in conjunction with EB16 and EA15. so updating to that would be my first suggestion.
here is a voodoo version of EB01:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19137626/Android/eb01_voodoo.zip
next i have had good luck with Super Clean 2.9.1, here is some info about it:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11900140#post11900140
as for finding a rom that fits your style and level the knoly way to know is to try them out. just make sure you backup a stable rom you know works before going on that adventure
good luck and i hope this helps
EDIT: go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897889. It will give you a more in depth explanation of everything you asked about and need/should know
Thanks for your reply man. EB01 seems to be the kernel for me. What about modem upgrading?
modem upgrading
a quote from the beginner's guide:
These updates also include a radio, which is the phone's programming that it uses to communicate with your cell service. Those are flashed via Odin, the same way you installed clockworkmod.
The Froyo EB01 update has it's own radio that needs to be flashed via Odin.
The version of your radio can also be verified in Settings > About Phone > "Baseband version"

my understanding is that when you flash the new EB01 release of Froyo it will upgrade that as well...i was looking for the original post here on xda but couldn't find it if i can find my file i will post it here for you to dl.
This is a very complete guide on how to get up to speed with EBO1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948722
It has links to kernals, radios (modems), and ROMS.
You may have to do some digging for things like red CWR and voodoo kernals. But this will take you step my step in updating your fascinate.

[Q] Flashing CM7 on Telus Fascinate

Hi
I think i have this all figured out but i am just wondering which CM7 file i should be using coming from stock 2.2 (with voodoo kernel). From what i have read i need to flash the initial file first then the nightly. Where can i find the initial file? Is this the file name "cm7-galaxys-initial-20110410.zip"
Thanks
Anyone???
i really want to give CM7 a shot but don't want to screw up my phone flashing the wrong type of ROM
Hey Guys, I'm in the same boat. The guide is a little outdated and some links are broken to the CM7website.. A new or updated guide would be muchos appreciated
Thanks
Check out this guide its the newest i've seen...i finally got a reponse there about this once i could post there...apparently the latest nightly will work but i haven't had a chance to try it yet

[Q] Quick question with flashing ROMs

So last night I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 and I’ve got a few questions regarding various things that I havn’t been able to find through searching around on the forums. If the answers are around the forums and I have missed them I apologize and hopefully you can direct me there.
1. Since I used chainfires rooting method. I’ve used Nitrality’s app to ‘backup’ my /efs and something else it backup up. Here I’m wondering if I use a custom rom such as “Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3” will the things I backed up with Nitrality app restore my original ROM and Kernel incase something hardware wise fails and I need to send it back in to claim on my warranty.
2. The second question im asking is regarding various Custom roms, if I choose to flash ;Lite’ning rom, will I be able to since it states it’s;
based on I9100XXKH3 firmware
baseband I9100XXKH3
The baseband I’m using is XWKE7, will I be able to use this rom?
3. since the version of android I have is 2.3.3 and majority of the Roms need 2.3.4 will it work correctly? If not and I have to legitly update to 2.3.4 will it successfully update since i've rooted my phone?
Hopefully you guys can help answer my questions. Thanks.
bump because I really need help :[
- Litening ROM is based on KH3 ROM, that doesn't mean you need to have a Stock KH3 ROM. So yes, you can install it.
- As I said it doesn't matter what ROM you currently have to flash a 2.3.4 ROM.
- Don't know about the Back up issue, sorry.

thankyou so much for your help
before I flash it will I need to upgrade my 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 though?

Trouble U/G Android 2.4 to 4.0

SOLVED: Thanks to ares05 I already got the rom I wanted! I didn't find that specific rom in the first place... Anyway, anyone googles for this same matter can use my thread as an Q&A. The only thing I did to get Neatrom Lite working was putting it on Internal SD (Without wiping data). And flashing it (choose zip from internal SD) from the custom CWM recovery, then reboot. (Yes for beginners, CWM is an requirement!). For Nexus layout lovers try regular Cyanogenmod, Trebuchet or MIUI. They are all great.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
Question to myself: did I researched, googled and watch the video upon registration?
Yes, but that doesn't solve my specific problem or provide enough information to try the risky situation.
Problems:
I have trouble upgrading from Android 2.3.5 to 4.0 through Odin3 v1.85. It's very unclear what Rom I need to get to flash.
I flashed through Odin3 Android 4.0 before, through reading a lot and accepted the try and ended up getting boot loops. So I flashed back my android 2.3.5 XWKJ5. that gave me CWM but also voided the possibility to upgrade through Samsung Kies what I regretted later.
Then I thought, Okay... I'll get the basic Custom Rom: Cyanogenmod 9.1 then, through wiping cache/factory and dalvik cache and flashing through zip file on SD card everything went great. But I was unhappy with CM9 because the playstore app didn't work anymore and I didn't liked the overall layout of the camera, apps and some other minor bug I found - I forgot... So I went back to Android 2.3.5 with nandroid backup.
Also I have ROM manager but that doesn't let me update the specific CWM 6.0.1.0 rom as it says "An error occurred while downloading your recovery." Probably more people have this?!
What I need to know to solve this matter:
I want the default (stock) android 4.0+ ICS firmware on my phone with root. Can someone provide me the exact link of the .tar/.tar.md5 file needed to upgrade my phone to that android version or higher if the rom is available for it (4.1.3?). Since I find it hard to search the correct rom needed to get this result. The rom you might provide me can be slightly modded but that's okay, as long as I have all the ICS features and the layout it naturally comes with.
All the current Phone specific data you might found useful in helping me:
Samsung Galaxy S2 (I-9100)*
Android 2.3.5
Gingerbread.XWKJ5
CF-Root 5 Kernel (Root, CWM, Superuser).
+Has made an Nandroid backup through recovery.
+Backed up my apps through Titanium Backup.
*It's no AT&T or T-Mobile version, luckily.
TL;DR: I WANT TO UPGRADE ANDROID 2.3.5 TO 4.0+, WHAT SPECIFIC ROM I NEED TO FLASH?
I hope someone good willing enough is there to help me and I will check this thread often for any replies,
Scy.
There are a bunch of ROMS here which will give you the stock ICS look and feel. I haven't tried all of them but if that's the kinda ROM you want then you could check out the ROM that I'm currently using, Neatrom Lite. Follow the link on my signature to the ROM thread. The latest version for Neatrom is 4.0.4 and you could download it from the link given on the first Page of the thread.
If you wanna try something else you check out the following links :

Yeah, that's sort of what I want. The biggest reason of wanting to update is that my brother has stock ics 4.0 and his battery consumes like 50% less energy in locked mode(s), factor in the fact that his update cleaned a lot of the processes and unused apps. Also I am fond of the original stock look - especially the camera controls.
I will try neatrom (lite) later tonight I checked out the official forum Page, looks very very to my liking. I am so excited, thanks for showing will report later if it worked out.
- EDIT -
Yaaaay! Everything went flawlessly, it's cool that there is no Wipe needed as the forum thread indicates. I don't know if it works fluidly yet, but it seems everything is up and running like if it was original ICS. I think the Siyah kernel helps alot in battery usage which means alot to me because I travel alot. I will keep this rom for a long while if no bugs/freezes pop up! Seems so promising, thank you thank you thank you~~!!

[Q] help me upgrading dell streak

hello....if anybody watching this, then please help me upgrading my streak to GB 2.3.3
Actually I am having STOCK FROYO 2.2.2 (rom 355) installed.
how should I upgrade it?
as I have read it on many forums that I have to flash recovery 350, do I really need to because I am already on 355?
and please provide a solution so I don't get any blinking lights bug after upgrading :silly:
HELP PLEASE
Search for threads titled "Everything you always wanted to know about the Streak but were too busy bricking it" and start reading the information at the links that turn up.
If you want to upgrade to Gingerbread, install one of the custom ROMs such as mine rather than go with the 407 ROM. The two DSC ROMs available have had many improvements made that won't be found in the 407 ROM. You will also need to root the Streak and install a custom recovery to do so.

i have read it.......n what I want is to just install a clean stock rom. I really don't want to root my phone or to install a custom rom..........that why I posted this.....if any 1 like you could help to install 407 pkg with no blinking issue and a clear guidence.
Help if you can....
Using baseband 355 retail rom.....
I do understand not wanting a rooted device, as not everyone needs the level of control and customization that is possible with a rooted device. However, there are simply too many issues with the stock ROM to in good conscience recommend using it. As noted, the two DSC ROMs available here fix a lot of issues that are still present in the stock ROM. One notable thing about the DSC ROMs is the Phoenix kernel they include does not perform the baseband check, thus you will never encounter blinking LEDs.
If however you insist upon installing the stock ROM anyway, you'll need to download the 407 baseband files, 407 recovery, and 407 ROM package. You'll have to use ADB to push the baseband files and recovery to the Streak. From there, you copy the ROM to the MicroSD card, boot into the recovery, and install the ROM package. Detailed instructions are readily available in the various flashing guides in the forums. The one thing you'll need to look for is the dev-host links, as that is where you will find the ROMs.
Yes yes.....i have the rom as well the recovery but not the baseband.
Thanks alot
I will check if I can find the baseband files.
By the way Do I need to root to push the baseband through ADB?
