so i basically want to know if anyone knows around about how much data usage before sprint calls?
They won't call i use 10 plus gb a month its unlimited for now
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
yeah i know its unlimited but there has been a few reports here and there about sprint calling if u use to much data in a month. the main reason i ask is because i am using a ton of data over the past week because i haven't had wifi for my laptop so im 4g tethering
I was just about to post a thread but ill moniter this one. My buddy literally just called me and said Sprint sent him the too much data message. I'm just about to cut down on my tethering habbits all together because their more serious than what people are taking them.

Any idea how much data he used?
Sent from my affliction/viper 3vo
He said he used about ten gigs. I also know he constantly tethers. While he's at work the kids watch netflix on the Wii and his wife is always on the laptop. So yeah this is bigger than what people expect. Whoever doesn't cut down will be in this thread or in the general section talking about their too much data letter. I didn't believe it when I read it a couple days ago here on xda until he called me like an hour ago saying the same thing.
My "DU4L C0R3 SH00T3R" shot you down in 3D! -Security Off-
I beat it was more than 10g because i know alot of people who've used that and get no messages but i guess I can also vary by your location
Sent from my affliction/viper 3vo
Yeah probably more than ten IMO also, and the location thing your probably right about too. He doesn't live in the city like I do so I guess it was easy for him to appear on the radar. It's still amazing. Ever since I read about it I haven't been really tethering because I don't need them trying to cancel my account for a couple games of call of duty. Just be cautious bro.
My "DU4L C0R3 SH00T3R" shot you down in 3D! -Security Off-
Yeah i am i have no choice at the moment because i have no Internet where I'm at but im not doing much with it when i do tether and i switch back and forth from 3g and 4g
Sent from my affliction/viper 3vo
The only one I know of is the 300mb roaming data limit. Otherwise if you don't tether to my knowledge there is nothing in the contract that limits your data (without them warning you first).
That should keep you under the radar. The sole purpose of me tethering was to play call of duty. Now the xbox is about to collect dust because that thing pulls way to much data.

It is to my knowledge that data roaming is supposed to be unlimited aswell or at least that's what they told me
Sent from my affliction/viper 3vo
Data roaming is not unlimited so be careful, most sprint reps won't know the true answer to this problem... It's 500mb a month, after a few months of this continuously in a row they can boot you off their service. I work for Sprint and have had three cases of this from my customers roaming out in the county were they only pickup a Verizon tower.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
I've heard several different limits for data roaming: 250MB, 300MB, 500MB. I'm not sure which is correct, but data roaming is limited.
I think you're safe if you stay on Sprint's network but they won't hesitate to give you the boot if you cost them money by roaming alot.

Just to clear up the off network limit... Here is a photo of my Sprint bill. Says 300mb or majority of your data in a month.

Really depends where you live or work. At work, Sprint is 800 kbps while 55 would be a dream for AT&T, since usually it was 20 or so.
Check your Tower Ugrade situation. Hopefully something is coming soon for you.

I have been consistently getting speeds lower than 80kbps down and 600up for over a month now. They haven't done anything no mater how much I call. They finally put in a tower ticket so it would be fixed in 72 hrs and I was to be notified that never happened. I'm terminating my service I can't justify paying for such low speeds. An the best part is its just the one tower right near my home the one up the road works fine.

I just did the math, downloading that slow 24 hours a day for 30 days you only use 18GB +/- so I'm not sure I understand the people that say they'd cancel if sprint removed unlimited plans. You wouldn't hit the cap at current speeds. Now if you are one of the people that actually get market average speeds I could understand that logic, but the rest of us would much rather have high speed...
I want to switch to Verizon, I just can't afford double cost for half the minutes, and data. I'm unlimited everything with sprint. I would trade it for a tiered plan that had Verizon service...just not at double the cost. Verizon has great service but for how cheap it is to run these networks they are priced too high.
you can also check here for tower maintence which is a little more specific than that other link posted before.
https://www.sprint.net/maint_view.php
Could always jump to VZW and enjoy their constant outages while I understand that crappy of a speed is as bad as a outage still. Lol hopefully there are some upgrades for ur towers soon.
Edit: yes sad panda great service for constant outages lol what they have had one every month for the last what 3-5 months or more LOL

Theirs is really only 2gb? Holy crap. I was thinking it was 5 gb when I was telling people at work how you can't beat Sprint's unlimited data.
I'm on wifi a lot of the time (home and work) so I really limit my sprint network usage.
According to my stats (reset on the 1st), I've used 450 mb in the last 6 days on mobile and 900 mb on wifi. I feel like I've had pretty light usage this past week too. I'm going to be house sitting for a week starting tomorrow so I expect to use AT&T's cap over 3g in a matter of days

Yeah, this may be true.... but why pre-install a data tracker on a phone whose network is unlimited. Kinda pointless unless you plan on changing something very shortly. Sprint can monitor people abusing the unlimited data so It just seems a bit fishy. Sprint is notorious for telling the customer one thing and doing another. Secondly why is this tracker only on an LTE phone.
Are you using the photo upload on google + and dropbox over 3G?

It's just part of ICS...not like Sprint added it in. They would have had to gone out of their way to remove the data tracker and then people would get mad that built in features have been removed.

Yeah I get around 600-700kbps on download but that is more than enough for the things I'll be doing on the go. I can even stream Netflix with no buffer (after the initial one, of course). It honestly is not that bad but then again I don't live in a busy area. I reckon in that scenario it would suck.
I've been calling every day, every day they tell me no data outages in my area. Have another Sprint user in my building getting same speeds. I've resorted to installing a 3G roaming PRL because they simple won't do anything about it. Before 9/4 the data was fine, slow at times, but I could at least stream Pandora, etc...

Is it common that when the roll out vision data speeds go to crap before they get better? It's funny as it only seems to be in this 2 mile range around my work. By my house, I'm getting 3G speeds above 1400kbps (which I've never got before). I've told Sprint that, told them that I've updated my profile, basically told them everything and that I just want them to tell an engineer despite what their system shows, that their is slow data in this address range... Still nothing.
Guess I'll just get my contract terminated for roaming...

I'm well aware of that, but I wanted more results than that displays, so I exported to CSV. I've fixed the first post so it was better formatting.

I have read that speeds can be affected during the switch over. In my personal experience, it also depends on geographic location. I live in Lake Worth FL, I get 2mb down and almost 900kb up from my house on 3g. Now, I work in North Miami Beach, I'm lucky if I get 100kb down and 3 kb up down here, even on 5 bars. This is even before the LTE rollout. Just because you have a good signal, doesn't mean your data will be fast. I think some areas may be over subscribed, they just don't have the bandwidth available for all their devices in some areas. Hopefully this will get better as they rollout LTE in my area.
If they are upgrading to vision it would be more likely that your speeds would fluctuate rather then stay at a constant low. They may be repairing towers in that area and pushing the load onto remaining towers. That essentially cripples available bandwidth. Had to put up with a similar issue for almost 3 straight months. They should tell you if there are any repairs or improvements being done. Have you tried having your call escalated?

+1 on this. That was going to be my recommendation as well.
CR will probably credit you which looks like you are entitled with the crappy service. And yes, data gets worse during NV upgrades, especially when they are working on the backhaul to the towers. It gets worse before it gets better then you will know its almost time to light up LTE. in short, nothing much more you can do other than leave Sprint but I'm thinking it will be regretted in the end.

And, it looks like they fixed it last night... Back to normal 400-600kbps.

Hello everyone,
I have been a long time Sprint user and enjoyed their unlimited data plan, but lets put it out there, their coverage sucks!! I only receive 4g service about 15% of the time and I know Verizon has the areas I travel blanketed with good 4g coverage. My contract is up and I am thinking of jumping ship to Verizon and this phone. My hesitation is with the data plans, if I have 4g available to me all the time I think I may be using alot more data. I may stream more, tether more, and I'm afraid the bill will go exponential. Not to mention I use my phone as a gps alot and that alone could shoot me through the smaller data plans each month.
My question to you all, is what data plans make sense on this phone, especially if you are sharing it with a second s4. I always put my phone on wifi when I'm home, but when I'm on the road I usually find my phone data speeds much faster than hotel wifis and I will often tether with Sprint. Will this still be possible with a Verizon plan? Which data tier are you guys using each month and how much data do you go through? Should I stick it out with Sprint waiting for their 4g coverage to mature? Any advice would help.

Can you do a usage analysis on Sprint's website? I had an oddball situation where I had unlimited and my wife had some old BS 300 MB plan from the BB days, so we had to move to tiered to get her something decent (we get an employee discount through her, so we do not want to separate plans). I ran the analysis on My Verizon and found that I never even came close to 2 GB anyway, and 4 GB is only another 10 bucks if we feel we need it. I am on wifi most of the time anyway, and I have a separate work phone for work. But both of our cars have navigation systems so we never really use phone navigation (and I have an old Garmin for when I travel), so my needs are quite a bit different.
I came from Sprint, too and I was worried about it. I have 4gb of data per month, but only really use about .5-1gb. The most I ever used was 2gb and that was with viewing a lot of youtube and Netflix. You'll love having the better coverage, and the LTE speeds are unreal compared to Sprints.
Most people are fine with 2gb but it really depends on the person. It sounds like you might want to start out with 4gb though. I am on wifi at home all the time and seem to still go through 1-2gb a month. If I am traveling and tether its easily 3-4gb. I am on unlimited data and don't worry about my usage though and am a heavy user with youtube and video.
I'm sharing 10 gb with the girlfriend. She only uses like 2gb, and 8 is plenty for me.

Even though I stream Google Music and Sirius all the time, per month, I typically use 2 - 4GB.

A lot? Two or less a Netflix movies will kill a 2gb data cap. Ditto for Netflix watching quicker than expected if HD mode. 4G and caps are like oil and water. They do not make a practical mix.

How can you guys stand to watch a whole movie on a phone? I can barely stand it on a tablet...and then is only on a plane where network cap is irrelevant. I will wait every time and watch it at home. Once again I guess us old farts have different usage patterns. Like music...I listen to maybe ten minutes of music per day, max. I am not going to rearrange my life over marginal entertainment.

Hey people I understand sprints network is unlimited etc.... but me and the other person on my line are rooted and we tether he used probably near 15-20gb i used probably about 5 and ever since the 30th of december my 4g connection has been unreliable to the point where i have to turn on 3g to use the internet or it will just hang at loading the website or the app i even did a speedtest with other people that have sprint in my area they easily get over 10mbps while i cant even get 1mbps unless i throw 3g on..... my question is can i do anything about this? we both have sprint note 3s stock rooted i checked the towers in my area all are good! I called sprint they made me do a network reset etc update profile and prl nothing changed! please help
Could be defective but I don't think you're being throttled. Try taking the battery out for a few minutes.

My wife and I are with Sprint as well and we both strongly believe that Sprint throttles 4g LTE at 5 gb download. Every month when I hit 5 gb I can't connect to 4g until the next billing cycle. We are going to see how Spark is this year and if it's as piss poor as the current 4g we are jumping over to AT&T.

Sprint has to be throttling I know my device is not defective it just so happens it's happening to both lines on my account we both used a decent amount of data I wonder if there is some sort of work around

Agreed. If you aren't in a roaming area, they shouldn't be throttling you. Make sure that you update your PRL and profile, reboot, then call them. There are a lot of factors, including times of day, towers from which you're pulling, &c. They know this info, so I suggest that have your facts before calling.

No throttling. 5gb isn't anything. I've used close to 100gb with no problems. For years I've easily gone over that 5gb mark. Someone here in another thread used almost 200gb. Just sounds like tower overload. New customers around Christmas time makes sense. Sprint should be able to see that.
Edit: For anyone that wants to see the unthrottled usage lol http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2592679&page=4
I'm having a similar issue. Will have to keep a close eye on it. I thought it was just my phone or the towers acting funny

Ya if data is not fast enough to stream some video in an area with lte coverage I would call and see whats up. Or go take your phone to another of the same model and compare signal strength. You can go into testing settings and make sure both are on same tower and see actual signal dBm.

Yes that is sprint lte at its best I love this phone/service. I cant see me needing spark untill phones have 4k displays and 4k video out. Maybe for really congested/populated cities its needed. wimax never made it here and lte is pretty new for us too, spark is probably years away for me anyways.
