stock 2.1 rom 10% battery drain per hour when sleeping
sc 2.9.2 UV 50 kernel (dont remember the full name) 3-5% sleeping in my pocket, BUT 1% drain every 3minutes when the screen is on the LOWEST setting.
Just odined back to stock, and 2.2 was already available to me.....so i OTA upgraded and my battery battery is even worse than that of stock 2.1. 12% percent for sleeping AND crazy battery drain when using the screen... i cant get over 7 hours of using my phone moderately....
warranty is voided since i rooted right???

No its not voided, you got the update via ota right? As long as you don't bring it in there rooted you should be fine.

Technically yes, but if your back to 100% stock, with no root, then know one well know you rooted.

Have you checked spare parts to see whats eating your battery?
Here are some things you could have done or do.
-Clear battery stats using terminal emulator
-Use app called juice defender
-Use UV kernel (seems like you did)
-Use Set CPU and bring down max frequency to 800MHz.
-Turn off GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth when not in use.
My suggestion is Odin to DI01 and then get the two OTA's EA28 and ED01 and then just run complete stock, and do not install ANY apps, yes I know who wants to run a phone with 0 added apps, you can update any stock apps, but if you run your phone for a day or 2 with just that setup and your having the same issue then go to verizon and get your phone replaced, also keep track of any settings you change, you want to try and keep your phone stock as much as possible, the only stock setting I personally would change is not have live wallpapers.
If your phone is over a year old, you might want to consider getting a new battery for it. No rechargable batteries stay 100% for over a year.

The phone has not been out a year, so its impossible for him to have it longer then a year.
Good point
Seems like this phone has been out damn near forever. Was trying to help. You have a better idea, or do you just troll these forums looking to bust peoples' balls while offering no actual help of your own?
the fear i have with taking it to Verizon is that. i didn't originally buy the phone. i got it of craigslist....so another question i have is, is there a warranty sticker to show if its ever been taken apart? maybe the previous owner replaced it with a cheap POS screen, that why it eats more battery...

Hmm ... I'm not sure about the replacement screen theory ... that seems like a lot of work for ??? benefit.
I second the advice about going stock and not installing any apps. Also, I don't see that you listed some of the things from Battery Use and Spare Parts that are listed as taking up battery life. There are apps that start things up automatically (e.g. Pandora always starts a service when I connect my bluetooth headset, even though it doesn't do audio and I've never used Pandora over bluetooth) ... sometimes you can change this in the settings, sometimes you have to decide how much you want to live with the app.
Out of curiosity, do you leave WiFi on when not connected to a network? I find that sucks battery pretty bad. I use Locale to turn that off when not at home and only turn it back on if I need it. I also used a widget called Traffic Monitor for a little while to see what was using data.
Honestly, you won't be able to return it to Verizon. My husband bought an Ally off Ebay and found out when we got the phone that something wasn't right, so he went to Verizon store and once they found out where it was bought they didn't even want to help him out.
I would suggest calling Verizon and tell them that the phone you have now doesn't work period. You'll need to emphasize that you need a phone that works. I called Verizon the same night that the store didn't help my hubby out and after an hour with the customer rep, I was able to get a new Ally ordered for him and his upgrade date wasn't until Dec of this year. He got his new phone late Feb/March I believe.
If they say they can't help you, keep telling them that you need a phone, and then ask them if they can see if a supervisor will be able to help you out. I stayed on the call with them, until they had that new phone ordered for him-I didn't give up. If the 1st day you call doesn't pan out, call them the next day as each rep is diff and some are really wanting to help, others couldn't care less.
Hope this helps you out.

I did offer a suggestion, which is the same thing that Verizon would ask you to do, and its the same suggestion even most Carriers should ask you. Same with a lot of computer companies should ask you when you are having issues with your computer.
Reset your machine to standard stock, run all your updates, don't install any apps, and see if it still happens, if your battery is just as bad, then we know its either your phone or battery, either way Verizon will trade it out for you, because honestly what else can it be? The only way Verizon can really say tough luck and deal with it is if the battery life he is saying he gets, is what everyone else gets, which we all know is not true.

I update OTA last week on Verizon to Froyo 2.2. My battery was overheating and draining like crazy from my CPU usage being at a constant 99%..
I found the source of the problem. An app I use for facebook called "FLOW". The CPU usage was cut to 20% when I killed it with "Advanced Task Killer".
I resolved the issue by: Opening Flow.. going to Preferences.. Notification Settings.. Refresh Type.. Checked Periodic Polling (I was using Gmail Experimental previously)
Hope this helps...
Hi sorry to bother everyone but i'm kinda sick of failing atm
I hate how the battery life is so short on the x10 so then i looked at eric's ewjet rom. some guy said he got 4 days battery
BUT when i;ve installed it, it always drains in less than a day
i;ve reinstalled it about 3 times already. can some1 help me?
and could u maybe outline the steps simply?
unfortunately X10 are the well known device that drains battery quicker than many other phones. You might want to wait 2 days or 3 to wait for the new GB 2.3 firmware to be released as it is told that it will improve problems of battery consumption
My girlfriend gets around 50 hours with thi phone, some surfing, and quite a bit playing games, she gets nearly triple the battery life that i get with my sensation. Edit: this is with wolfbreaks rom, she is quite happy with it. damn i need some sleep

On the stock x10, there are a bunch of apps that run in the background that really don't need to.
Another thing you can do is install something like a Task Manager and end applications that aren't being used. An example, is that if I open my camera app and close it when I am done, my camera app stays open for hours after I have exited the program....I could kill it using Task Manager.
Don't use animated desktop....keep bluetooth and data and wifi off when you aren't using them.
My stock phone would only last a day. My BlueSpark ROM, with light use, will run for 2.5 days without having to recharge. When I made my own custom ROM, that was very minimalist, it lasted for 3 days of light use with no charge.
You could try flashing a different baseband, I've heard that'll help.

Hi,
I have been reading a lot of posts by people but did not find an answer yet to problem I am having with Atrix.
I've had like 5 Atrix phones and never had this issue before so I am thinking it might be the phone but need input/opinion on what you guys think.
I have tried CM7, Ronaldo R9, Stock GB, Aura, Alien 4.
I bought this phone used and it was not even rooted.
I unlocked it, rooted it and started messing with it. It was working fine but then I had to mess with it.
No matter what rom I run, it goes from 100% to 40% in around 4 hours without any use.
I have 2 hotmail, 1 exchange, 2 gmail accounts and 1 facebook.
Any suggestions?
I am on stock kernel right now. I used faux kernel and it got even worse.
Any idea on what I might be doing wrong? I am about to sbf 2.2 Froyo to see if that fixes the issue.
Thanks in advance for help guys.
DONT SBF TO FROYO 2.2 YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PHONE! Other then that what's your setCPU at?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I never used SetCPU, I don't even have custom Kernel. I am using stock Kernel.
Baseband Version:
N_01.77.30P
Kernel:
[email protected] # 2
I usually freeze using TiBu, but this time I uninstalled everything from Live wallpaper picker to DLNA to Quick office, I barely have anything on the phone and it's still so hot. Draining battery like crazy. Did every calibration mentioned on here using CWM or Battery calibrator.
I was going to sbf the file with pudding and preinstall root built in. Thanks for the heads up though. I know that I can't go back to stock stock so was going to flash pudding 2.2.
You will only HARD BRICK your phone IF you have done the Official OTA (Over The Air) to GingerBread. If you have never done the official OTA and you were on 1.8.3 when you unlocked and you flashed GB (Kenneth Penn or other custom GB ROM's) then you can SBF backwards but it is not recommended.. I just want to clear that up for you.
Now, there is a battery issue with faux kernel (stock or OC) so make sure you are using the 0.2.0 version of his kernels.
If you want to do a sure test and find out if its the phone or the physical battery that is bad then flash Kenth Penn's Alien ROM with the gingerbread kernel and use the free setCPU here (free for XDA members). Yes you can still use setCPU even if you are on stock kernel because you can UnderClock the CPU when you turn the screen off or set it to were if you are under a certain battery percentage it will automatically uncerclock itself.
Thank you for the heads up but I know you can't do Froyo or GB without pudding if you have unlocked the phone, which I have unlocked.
So, are you saying that one of the ROMs overclocked the CPU and now it's stuck or something? I never messed with any SetCPU. All I did was change roms.
Do I need to do something special after I install EXT4 ROM with EXT4 formatting?
Do I need to format the partitions using something else to go back to stock partitioning? I just want my phone to go back to normal where it would last a whole day of playing without charge

Actually you can SBF without pudding as long as you never flashed the OTA GB. Not only have they stated that in the threads but I have done it. The OTA will give you a Hard Brick.
No, I'm not saying that the ROM's overclocked the CPU... I was saying it's good to UnderClock it when your not using it.. (saves battery life)
Also you HAVE to wipe the battery stats after each ROM flash or you will have a incorrect battery percentage display
I see what you are saying.
I know you have to recalibrate battery after change of rom, what about if you sbf?
To test it out, I installed the 2.2 using sbf and charged it to 100%.
I have been on battery for barely 3 hours and I am at 60% life.
Without using anything, battery is at 95F and phone feels pretty hot.
I have had 4 Atrix before and never had any issues like this. Seems like something is always running in bg. I use my motoblur account so I have same number of emails and stuff on every rom and phone?

Did you just get the phone? If it has been overheating like this since you got it, it's very likely there's a problem with the unit itself. You may need to get it replaced.
I have the same problem here, I monitor my phone temp. using setCPU and to monitor the processor speeds on CM7 and my normal temp is about 37C or 99F and thats when the phone is pretty cool, however i have seen it get up to around 40-42C, not really sure what to do as i havent found a solution and it gets so hot now i can feel it through my case too.
I kept playing with this last night and no matter what ROM I use with Motoblur account and 3 push email accounts, it kept getting hot.
I am wondering if it's Motoblur getting suck on something since Phone Idle, main and phone is using most of the battery when you look at %age.
Or it's my 3 push email accounts, 2 gmail and 1 facebook that are syncing like crazy and killing the phone. I did a format of system, cache, data and all from recovery and installed cm7 for now to avoid blur. I am thinking of putting in all my push accounts in CM7 and see if it gets hot too. If it doesn't then it's motoblur or if it does get hot, it might be too many accounts syncing tons and tons of time?
So, I went back to Ronaldo's R9 Rom and been keeping an eye on battery.
I skipped blur setup and just put my gmail account on there that is associated with my contacts and all.
1h 21m 2s on battery, 92% battery life left.
Display 45%
Phone Idle 32%
Cell standby 8%
com.android.inputmethod.latin 4%
Messaging 3%
Voice Calls 2%
Android OS 2%
com.android.phone 2%
Wifi 2% (turned this off like an hour ago)
Does that seem pretty normal to burn 8% battery in an hour?
If that is good then I will start adding my other emails. I think I have narrowed down the issue to blur having push emails or maybe just blur. Will keep this thread updated.
Thank you.
Honestly, my phone also gets QUITE hot. I guess it's just fail ventilation.
mine gets up to 52`C
Is your phone revving to 9k?
Thanks for the laugh dude. I actually ended up getting rid of Atrix.
I actually have another Atrix with lapdock that I am selling. I think it's time to move on from Atrix
^^I think you've had more Atrix's then the Moto developers themselves. Your an Atrix lover!

Try disabling the exchange account for a day and see if if it helps. Some users has earlier reported that exchange was creating problems. If it's not then use watchdog to idnetify the mischievous app which is eating a lot of CPU hence the heat.
CM7 has got rid of all heating issues so there must be something else than the OS itself.

Your Display has consumed 45% so the behavior is more or less normal. The larger the screen on time larger is the drain.

You have an app that is driving data to your phone, causing the wifi chip to wake the phone all the time. Apparently a system app - a lot of people have been having this issue with KK6.
Beyond this - sorry, but if you are not rooted you will have to live with it. Identifying what is triggering the wifi interrupts requires obtaining a Wireshark capture, this is not possible without root. Even if a common root cause is found for what's going on with KK6, it's most likely in /system itself so can't be fixed without a custom ROM or at least rooting.
If you're not willing to root, why are you on a firmware developer forum? Have AT&T help you instead if you're on 100% bone stock unrooted.
Well if it's an APP causing it, then many many people must be running the same app cause all of the various forums out there are a lot of people with the battery drain after updating to 2.3.6. Even a lot of my customers have mentioned it also.
I doubt it is an APP doing it. I'd bet it is just some bad coding on Samsung's part. They are probably getting a lot of complaints and are most likely already looking into it.
As far as the why he is here if he doesn't root. Well I don't root as well and have no desire to being as stock works just great. (other than the battery drain)
This is a great place to hang out and keep up on other people using various phones. He posted in the General section, not the Developer's section for this phone. So I think his/her question was valid.
If he was asking the question in the Developers section I would understand your concern. But I don't feel you have to be into cooked ROMS to value this forum.
That's like saying to the people who like the "Fast and the Furious" moves to stop watching them because they have a Chevy and not a pimped up Civic.

I'm not rooted with wifi on all the time just got the phone 3 days ago and I'm getting 14-15hrs with no issue down to about 15-20% battery life left before I have to stick back on charger. Could be a bad battery or device, I'm coming over from Sprint after using rooted evo3d and rooted photon.

The forum is called xda-DEVELOPERS.com
If you don't want to root, you're probably better off in the AT&T support forums, because honestly, it isn't worth our time to try and help someone who doesn't want to root fix a problem that is almost sure to require root access to fix, or in this case, even diagnose.
I do believe many are having this issue after upgrading to kk6 (with same apps installed). I had the issue as well.
May be a system app, or something in /system causing an app to become unhappy.
Either way, it's not going to get fixed without Shark for Root captures from those encountering problems.

Having this issue as well. Phone is stock. Ive been here since the captivate but I hang around with the sgs2. Never needed to root this phone as it works perfectly for me. But I did the update this morning at 100% charge and 9 hours later with no use it's down to 9%. I could go all day with moderate use and be at 30-40% by the time I go to bed.
I read on a rather long on a google forum that many had this issue after upgrading via ota but who knows. I found that wiping dalvik and flashing unnamed update again I have much better batter life. I did read in update that he reverted to an earlier kernel signature to fix the battery drain.
Im going back to 2.3.4 via this method.
http://galaxys2root.com/att-galaxy-s2/how-to-unroot-att-galaxy-s2-sgh-i777/
Losing 10% of my battery at idle /hour is ridiculous lol. Android os was at 87+% within 3 hours of restart.
Edit:
Okay so I did this method. Took about 5 mins after I got everything downloaded. I did not do the factory reset since it's not needed. Phones back to 2.3.4 and nothing was reset. Have all my sms's contacts, aps, wallpapers etc. Battery seems to be back to normal.
I recommend everyone who did that 2.3.6 update to revert back. To many problems with it.
I never entered download mode on this phone before. Just a tip: Keep holding all the buttons till the phone seems like it shuts off and keep holding them till you get into download mode. Do not let go or else it just powers off.
For the purposes of attempting to fix the problem, I really would like some people to take some Shark for Root captures as described in my Known Battery Drainers thread.
With that data, the root cause of the problem might be identifiable.
So far I've only seen one capture, I really need more unless I can reproduce the problem myself.

I read a possible solution on another forum and tried it with my SGS2 today and am amazed at the difference today in my battery life.
Worth a shot as it does not require anything more than charging your phone and pulling the battery.
Charge your phone to 100% with the phone off (hold the power button for 3 seconds or so until the menu comes up and select power off). When you reach 100%, unplug the charger and remove your battery (some said keep the battery removed for 90 seconds while others said 3-5 minutes). I left my battery out for 5 minutes or so. Put the battery back in and power on.
That was it. My Android OS went back to normal and the battery life today has been great if not better then with 2.3.6 than before I updated.
Screen grab of my current battery use after trying this method this morning is attached.

Quite possible, but still running on the same charge from this morning and am at 28% battery after 14+ hours of normal use which is all I expect (calls, texts and light web browsing during the day over data) and then couple hours of web use at night over Wi-Fi when at home.
The last few days I was charging the phone when I got home from the office if I wanted to use it at night. Android OS was way up in the 60+ range after I first updated OTA and today it has been under 20% and more near 15%, so I'll take it.
---------- Post added at 11:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:59 PM ----------
Come to think, I probably did not do a reboot after the update and could have been all that was needed.

I did this and saw absolutely no change. 2.3.6 is draining my battery far faster than 2.3.4 ever did. The culprit is the Android OS running at 90%.
I read that it might be an issue with the wifi so I have turned that off and will report back if that seems to fix it.
I read on another forum that att and Samsung are trying to blame it on bad batteries and shipping out new batteries.
What a bunch of crap. People everywhere wouldn't suddenly all have bad batteries at the same time. Sounds like usual BS.
I personally think its just some bad coding that Samsung needs to figure out.
On a different note, I played with the Verizon Droid Razr yesterday. Man that is a really nice phone. I'm tempted to get it, but I work for att and get free cell service, so it wouldn't make sense to pay for Verizon service, even though I think their network is better.

Android OS is definately eating up the battery now. I think it does have to do with wifi, because it seems to be much improved with it off. I'll take a free battery as long as I don't need to exchange the old one.
Lately my battery usage in battery monitor widget has been going over 1000ma multiple times a day. In fact this has been the case both at the beginning of my Rezound's life on the first firmware, and again now.
At one time in between I used to never see it go over at most 700ma, and experienced reasonable battery life too. Usually I saw about 70ma to 300ma usage. This was with several different roms on the same firmware. I think it was the first or second ICS firmware but I don't remember for sure.
I'm starting to think the firmware a few versions ago was better on battery life. What do you guys think?
I was running GB with the old firmware up until just last week. I was averaging about 20 hours on a full charge with 1-2 hours of screen on time. The rom ran great and the only issue I really had was my 4G would cut out completely whenever I tried to play Youtube videos....
Last week I updated to the latest official ICS global rom with the new radios and firmware, and my battery life has gone in the toilet. I'm averaging about 15 hours on a full charge with the same 1-2 hours of screen on time. My phone gets MUCH hotter when just doing simple things like browsing the web, often getting above 100* F. On GB firmware I was usually in the mid 90's unless I was gaming. This is with the stock kernel. For the past couple days I've been trying FunkyKernel with some under clocking and undervolting which has helped the heat but not so much the battery life.
I'm kinda pissed and strongly considering finally going S-OFF just so I can roll back to the old firmware.
I actually think I had the best battery life on the first ics firmware, but like I said it might have been the second one. I don't remember how many there have been, but I have done all of them.
This latest one just seems to suck down power.
Anybody else have some input?
I just recently updated to the official global firmware and am running Rezone Redux with Funky 3.7. I'm not doing any undervolting and the only change I made to the frequencies was setting the min to 96 and the max to the stock 1512. With my extended battery, I'm averaging around 4.5 hours of screen on time, which is actually about 30 minutes more than I've ever gotten out of this battery. Then again, I keep my data, WiFi, and GPS off at all times unless they're needed, screen brightness at 13%, I'm using an app called Greenify to hibernate certain apps (not freeze, there's a difference), and I'm using the Wheatley governor. I'm very happy with this setup.

So maybe it isn't affecting your as much because you keep your radios turned off. I also use greenify and it has definitely helped.
I might go a day with my mobile data enabled all day and see what happens. I got into the habit it of toggling my data off about a year ago. The only reasons for me to keep it on would be weather updates and Facebook notifications, neither of which is really important enough to me to have them refresh automatically. I don't use push email or anything like that, either. I suppose it would make a difference for someone who needed instant email notifications and such.

I also keep data off most of the time unless the phone is plugged in, but still, battery just hasn't been the same since the latest firmware update...
I want to update you guys on my battery issue I thought was related to the new firmware. Every rom I had used since the newest firmware release was horrible on battery life. Using battery monitor widget to monitor power usage, I was often seeing over 1000ma usage many times per day.
I recently installed neo's infection 2.9.1 which uses a stock kernel based off Flahalf's work. My extreme battery drain is gone! The highest usage I have seen in 2 days is around 500ma, and normally it is 100ma or less! Not only that but this Rom is smokin fast. It feels like a new phone!
And it fixed wireless tethering! I'm so happy and thankful for the awesome work or devs have been doing. Thanks guys!
Unfortunately for peeps like me who enjoy gaming on their phone, the JB roms aren't all that great. Graphics performance is generally poor....
Maybe you should give it another try. I just played some shadow gun and the performance was fine.

Then you must not have looked very hard, it is here on XDA in the Rezound Original Development forum, along with other amazing ROMs like Tron, Beanstock, Liquid Smooth, PAC-Man, etc.
[ROM][GPL][CDMA/GSM][Jb-4.2.2]☣INFECTION-2.9.1☣[07/20/13][CM-10.1.2][LINARO-4.8] will take you right to the Infection thread!
Well I thank you for the post and help I keep forgetting there are two separate forms for DEV now which i really never understood why they made two.
Thanks
