Was at the sprint store yesterday and they let me play with EVO 3D.
First impressions:
Feels solid, just like the EVO 4G.
Shutter button is awesome and auto focus is very fast.
Pictures and videos taken in 3D did not look 3D and kept changing under different angles.
The Green Hornet in 3D was amazing, it actually looked 3D.
I don't understand why pictures taken with the phone don't look like the preloaded movie, which makes me think that the screen itself is capable of playing 3D content its just that the camera is not a true 3D camera.
Finally i wanted to compare 2D pictures to my EVO and so i emailed one to myself and here it is.
How did the screen look? Some reviews say it looks like poo because of it being 3D. I think that shouldn't be the case.

So how does the pic you took with 3D compare to Ur 4G?

Thanks for this thread! Finally, not a thread from some POS attention whore. The pic looks great and I just may push my wife into getting a 3D as well. She was planning to get the OG EVO upgrading from a BB Curve

Because the movie was captured with professional 3D equipment. The Evo 3D is true 3D, all you need are 2 cameras, just like you have 2 eyeballs on your head. The problem with having 2 fixed cameras though, is that they cannot pivot (like your eyeballs) in order to compensate for the distance between the cameras and the subject, so the 3D/depth perception will not always be that good, especially for closeups.

I agree, the pic does look quite nice ... even though I see plenty evidence of compression losses, that's not the camera's fault and can be easily fixed in the settings.
Thanks OP. I was having a hard time believing that HTC couldn't get a 5MP camera to take a decent pic.
Will be interesting to see how Vignette performs on the phone. By far, the superior camera app, because it limits compression.
The two cameras are too close together for the 3D effect to be as visible as what the movies are. Ideally they would be as far apart as both your eyes are but that's not very practical on a cell phone. The picture there looks pretty good to me though, not as good as what my DSLR can do but the lenses alone for that thing are more than that phone costs.
i'm not worried as much about the megapixel part of the camera or even the 3d portion... i just want it to be clear and the color right.
my evo 4g takes clear pictures but the colors are way off.
here's a picture of my bike taken with my EVO:
and here's what it really looks like...taken with a older Nikon point and shoot:
ps: thanks for snagging a picture with the phone though. the color looks better than my evo.... it does look grainy though.
Second picture is just about as good as the Samsung Epic 4G camera.
First picture is random (was going to look up what type of plant it was) and second picture is my friend's dock.
These look very similar to the quality of EVO 3D's camera.
samsung phone camera's do kick ass.. as a matter of fact the second pic of mine could have been taken with my old moment. too bad the rest of the samsung phone isn't as good as the camera.
this is a pic with my old Moment:

Yep, I have some amazing shots with my Vibrant
Yeah my moms epic camera is way better than my EVO.
I noticed your in a Sprint store. Anyone know when they will be up for display? I assume not until the 24th? I think I want to see the phone in person before I decide.
I honestly do think that HTC is not as good as samsung probably when it comes to writing software. I honestly do believe that software customizations that samsung makes are probably much better than HTC.
Touchwiz is much more buggy than sense imo. Samsung just uses better sensors for their cameras

agh i wish htc just paid samsung for their camera sensors, it would make the 3D perfect. (well close enough). Or they could take out all the 3D, and just made the battery huge

Their sensors are good, it's their optics and post processing that hurt the pictures.

then htc needs to stop putting 10 layers on their damned lenses and keep one good GLASS layer that’s not protrududing from the damned phone so it gets frekin scratched.

The evo 4g has the same sensor as the iphone4 IIRC....the lense and software not so much

So is anyone else seeing double image if they dont film their subject in a sweet spot? Seems kind of pointless doesnt it? If I am filming stuff, I would prefer to not tell my subject that they cannot move beyond a certain zone.
Or... is my 3d defective?

I only see issues if I am close to something, like a macro shot
Ive had the same problem. Taking 3D pictures of moving objects just doesn't work well.

Without a quick enough shutter speed, taking pictures of moving objects period doesn't work well.
my problem isnt just moving objects. it is anything that is NOT in a certain zone. If the object being filmed is too close or too distant, it doubles (instead of 3d).
With 3d photography, there ARE limitations on distance.
Remember, a camera doesn't work like your eyes which are able to do more than just focus.
A camera lens is FIXED in a specific position and when you change your focal points the fixed position may be either to wide or, when focusing at distance, too narrow.
Movie makers and professional photographers are aware of this and can work around it. Specialized 3d photography actually uses 2 cameras in sync with a rail that separates the cameras based on the focal point.
Here's a simplified example of the rail for home use:
http://www.adorama.com/alc/article/How-to-Build-a-Two-Camera-Rig-for-Wiggle-3D
For what the evo and point and shoot 3d cameras do, it's just fine as long as you know the limitations of distance (both macro and >40ft or so)

I appreciate this info... but... my evo 3d is struggling with objects even > 8 feet.
is anyone else experiencing the same issue? should i take it back?
To get as close as possible to a perfect 3D experience for human eyes, a 3D camera needs its two lenses to be the same distance apart as our eyes are. Notice the 3VO's "eyes" are only 1.375" apart. My eyes are closer to 3" apart center to center. What it means is that the near and far extents of the view taken will either be hard to align for focus or impossible and thus ignored by one of our eyes or the other. Far elements won't have as much 3D impact anyway, except in contrast to near elements in the same scene. You'll notice broad distant landscape scenes aren't the choice shots as 3D samples. Pick scenes with foreground (not too close) and background (and even middle ground) elements to shoot, and your shots will turn out fine. Make sure your camera is level though. If you don't then you won't see the 3D effect until you re-create that tilted relationship between your eyes and the viewscreen.
3D Photo convert to 2D Nicer than originally taken with 2D.
I have read few articles about this but couldn't believe.
I think this (myth) can be tested easily.
Just make your phone stand securely in place.
Place a detail thing infront of the camera.
Take both 3D and 2D photo, convert 3D photo to 2D
and compare it to originally 2D photo.
Aside from the image size (we all know that converted 2D is reduce).
Which photo is nicer in terms of color production, focus, details,
as viewed from the phone itself.
Hope someone can tried out, and test.
I have found that in low light situations, my pictures turn out better if I take them in 3D and convert them to 2D.

2 questions kind of related.
Is there a way to convert 3D to 2D pics on the pc rather than 3VO so we don't reduce size as much?
Also, how about 3D to 2D video conversion? I would hate to take a vid and not show others who don't have 3D displays.
I have taken several 3D videos and notice that the alignment of both lenses is not good. There is ghosting and crosstalk on almost every video I take, especially when looking at darker colors. Even when I hold the camera still, the right lens refocuses itself. I notice especially when I play the videos back on my
3D laptop. Is something wrong with my EVO or does it just take bad 3d videos?
Its possible your lenses are not in sync, I don't think there would be a way to fix it. How well does it play yt3d videos from the YouTube app? Are you using a screen protector? Dust/sweat/dirt on the lenses? All that can mess up 3d capturing too.
It plays 3d fine. I have Avatar 3D and it plays really well. It seems to be only the videos that I take. Here are some samples:
wait..it says I can't post outside links
I'd have it exchanged if you just got it. Don't let the store run the update and root that bad boy.
