[Q] How to backup S2 Stock Rom - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to backup my stock ROm does anyone know how to? I heard there something called clockwork, could someone explain further and have you tried it working?

One try the branded rom posts for your phone .
BUT you say its STOCK rom no need to backup stock roms just download a stock rom .
Clockwork Mod is a tool that installs custom roms and also can back up your current rom .
CWM is found here with root .
Root + CWM .

[Q] Now or never, usb jig & custom recovery

Hi, becuse samsung is just about to release a exu 2.3.4 update that will disable the usb jig from working in resetting the counter, meaning if the thing breaks , you may not be able to get it fixed via waranty. So is it now or never to root, and flash custom roms onto the divice please? Also, I am confused about somthing with regards to custom recovery. If someone would help me, I would be really greatful. (I have tryed to search for the answeres, but didn't find what I needed )
-When You flash a custom rom using odin, how do you get clockwork mod?
-Also, can you install custom roms stock or asop through clockwork mod on the galaxy s2?
-Which is safer to flash with, odin or clockwork mod?
-Could anyone recomend a stock rom please, there are so many?
I know these are stupid questions, but If you could help me in any way, I always click the thanks button. Thanks

yes your choice to make until a workaround .
-When You flash a custom rom using odin, how do you get clockwork mod?
You dont get clockwork mod by flashing a custom rom .
Unless the rom contains CWM in its build .
CWM and Root is the normal method .
Root + CWM .

-Also, can you install custom roms
Yes if the rom instructions say so
stock
NO
or asop through clockwork mod on the galaxy s2?
|Take it you mean asop rom again yes if instructions say so .
-Which is safer to flash with, odin or clockwork mod?
Either but CWM is probably a bit more idiot proof .
-Could anyone recomend a stock rom please, there are so many?
Stock rom its usuall to flash the latest tested release which is KH3 .

Not possible you may get same rom from branded /providers roms posts /
2) what is the best way flashing the first time?
Follow the instructions
Decide what rom you want and read instructions before flashing .
a) flash cf-root then backup /enf then backup my rom
If you have cf root and CWM flashed then you can use CWM to backup
b) flash SiyahKernel thet will auto backup /enf then backup my rom
If the instructions say they do then they will .But i dont recall that kernel backing up the rom .

Yea you can restore your stock rom any time with Cwm recovery. As long as you have cwm recovery in your new custom rom you can acess your backups. So be sure you flash cwm recovery on your custom rom btw most of rom's come with cwm so you don't have to worry if not you can flash cwm recovery from odin too. Just search on google about cwm touch
Hope it helped you.
Thanks me i my words are helpfull.
Thanks You All cuz im not happy with this rom i wanted to go back..thanks again

As far as my expereriance, after restoring a ROM form your backup it is always a good idea to wipe Cache and dalvik cache befor rebooting. (not the factory reset..that will wipe your applications this you do before restoring only)
how will you restore to stock via CWM if CWM is via a rooted kernel .
It will be a non stock kernel .

I think here everybody meant by "Stock" is the first ROM which was there in the phone..no matter its rooted with a custom kernel.....

But its not original and voids warranty if restored was my point .
Far easier to grab a download of the original rom .
OP did say stock rom and not custom rom so the answer is as always not via CWM its no longer a stock rom once rooted .

few questions

hi
i m new to s2 but i was using nexus s before
now i have few questions please clear my doubts
1.for now my phone is not rooded if i install a custom kernel with odin will the phone be rooted if that rom has root?
2.for now my phone is not rooded if i install a custom rom with odin will the phone be rooted if that rom has root?
thank you
Flash a ChainFire kernel using odin (follow the links in my signature). Try and keep it close to your current rom / kernel number. Its all in the instructions on their page.
Then flash your new roms either through recovery (follow links in my signature) or using odin.

Yes but CWM is normal custom install .
and in cf-root thread the kernel required for my version is untested
what to do? MAKE A DECISION developer does not have time to test every build .
can i just flash rooted custom kernel via odin?
Only if custom kernel is Odin flash most/all are CWM.
and does odin require kies to be installed?
YES or at least Samsung USB Drivers .
Read the basics .

[Q] s3 I9300 not rooting...tried all method

hello devs,
i have an international variant GT-I9300 . I upgraded it with the ATO(OPEN AUSTRIA) . After this upgrade ,i was not able to root ...i used the CF AUTO ROOT , SUPERSU , and even mobogeine root method . its getting failed....
please help me devs......i would like to root it...either to get a stable international variant ROM.
If you intend to then flash a custom rom then don't bother rooting your stock firmware, all custom roms are already rooted.
If you want to stay stock then flash a prerooted version via odin, get a link for one on xda in general forum.

i checked the whole procedure of it as u told.... but while i am flashing CFROOT but it is showing "FAILED SIGNATURE VERIFICATION" . and the same thing for superSU ......
so...in case if i flash PHILZ RECOVERY or CWM ......without rooting........ will my phone get bricked ???...
Check out Cyanogenmod Installer follow the instrustion it will root and install the latest stable CM for your phone .
You are still missing basic knowledge, you can't flash anything with stock recovery.
Flashing recovery doesn't require root, but you can brick the phone if you don't understand what you are doing.
