Does it delete everything in your phone or is it one of those that just roots your phone within a few clicks and doesn't reset anything? Thanks in advance.
It only resets some thing with the radio where you have to talk to sprint... First time you make a phone call to anyone, it will connect you to sprint and they fix it. Other than that, you stay fine
Note this only for s-off, temp root didn't change anything at all

Thank you, that's all I needed to know.
2 EVO 3Ds.
Hboot 1.30.000 rooted with no issues.
Hboot 1.40.000 had error 16.
Neither phone had taken an OTA.

After I successfully got s off on my phone and my wife's phone, when I first make a call it connects to sprint to activate the radio. My question is am I gonna have to do this every single time I flash a new rom or no? Just curious is all.
I doubt it, it probably has to do with cracking the bootloader. That's probably where the exploit was.
I have s off and root. No problems so far with tibacup, texts or calls. And I've yet to be connected to sprint pre call

Same here rooted and can receive/make calls/text without needing to contact sprint.
Your handset prolly failed the handsfree activation after you unlocked it so it dialed sprint for activation
It's Sprints new enhanced security. The rep on the phone told me it could be activated by a few things including hands free activation the phone battery getting low going out of service area. I didn't tell her I rooted of course.

If you are getting error 16, wait a long time and speak with representative, have them reset the service thingy. It worked for me after not being able to call.
So what is everybody saying when they talk to sprint?

S-OFF means you can install Superuser. Superuser lets root apps know you have root and they can send superuser commands to your phone.
Same here, calls didnt work - error 16 message. Connected to a sprint rep automatically and she asked if I changed anything on my phone recently, all I said was nope. Asked her why this happened, she said new security enhancements. She pushed a "fix" and said to power off power on and I should be good. Did that, S-OFF still there.... I am Golden.

Thanks! Worked like a charm!!
The Sprint rep who helped me said it's been a very busy night for EVO 3D error 16s... she said she's had about 70 of them so far.

I wonder if sprint is going to send HTC a bill! Sprints system resets at 1am(I just leaned this) so I had a rep on the phone talking about mountains for like 20mins, muhhaha! This never would of happened if they had unlocked our bootloaders!!!

Keep your fingers crossed that HTCdev site adds the Thunderbolt in the future, you may want to hit up craigslist and look up Thunderbolt in or near where you live. I know here in Arizona you can pay someone around 20 to 30 bucks and have them root it for you. Make sure they use the long root since I have heard bad things about one click devices having to do with the Thunderbolt. Good luck.

If your talking about HTC adding the thunderbolt to the bootloader unlocking site, then you must realize that it doesn't root your phone. It only unlocks the bootloader, and in turn void your warranty (don't think they won't flag your device when you use their tool).
Sure you'll be able to download a rooted RUU and flash it via hboot, and this might open the doors for a one click root app if your bootloader is already unlocked, but is that worth your warranty?

Oh I am sure they will come up with someway to keep track of the phone that do unlock, that is why I will continue to use the unlock method through ADB and the great hackers of android. Then when the phone takes a dump, I wont know where I left it and file a lost phone claim and attempt to fix it with all my might to have parts or a spare phone.

Solid plan. Always good to do things manually so if something messes up, you might know where and why it messed up, and how to fix it.

Hey guys. I've had my EVO for a while and I've been flashing roms like a fiend, recently I've been stuck on 1x for a few days now. I switched to a stock based ROM and updated all my stuff. Called sprint and they reset my connection and its still on 1x. They want me to go into a store because they think its the phone. Any last minute ideas? Should I s-on or anything. Im also worried about them switching out the phones and me being able to root the new one.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
in dialer dial ##DATA# click edit mode enter you msl click data profile then hit the settings(?) button on the bottom of phone click restore reboot phone let it do its thing see if that helps
And if you do end up bringing it in, normally a fresh flash of a completly stock ROM will work, as long as you don't have a custom splash screen they shouldn't notice s-off.
They would try to do an update which will include 1.5 bootloader.( I've seen someone who did this and ended up with 1.5 boot, with s-off as a result, but who knows what was done to it in the store)
Go with the instructions above my post, worth a shot..
Shot from my sharp shooter in 3d
cleanrom2.9.5
Tried restoring, no luck still on 1x. I don't want to be stuck on hboot 1.5 don't they not have s off yet?

So my phone all of sudden has been getting really slow data speeds. I'm talking 50-100 kbps down. It's not the area because I just compared it to my friend's Evo 3D while we in the same room and he was getting over 1 mbps. I already updated my profile, prl and data profile and it didn't make a difference.
If I take it in to Sprint repair, they're probably going to update the firmware and software right? I'm on HBOOT 1.4 right now and I definitely don't want HBOOT 1.5.

Did you make any changes to your phone before the slow speeds started? New ROM? New kernel? New radio? Also, if you keep your hboot S-off, it won't mater if they update it, you can revert back to 1.4. Updating it won't set you back to S-on.

Nope. My phone is completely stock, s-on, unrooted. Should I get s-off and then take it in?
If your phone is stock, call Sprint at *2 and have them send a reset to the phone. That would most likely correct your problem.

Well, it depends. Do you have intentions of rooting and flashing down the line? If so it's easier if you're S-off. If you don't, then it won't matter if you update. I'm still not very clear of Sprint's policy of working on phones that are S-off.

Just the basic settings in the phone. It would no effect any contact data, apps or such. It's the quickest fix for problems such as yours. It would even work with a rooted phone and likely all they would do at the Sprint store.

You can do that from setting update profile. That all sprint do from there side.

No offense, but seriously dude, you shouldn't be rooting a phone if you have this problem.
That will just raise the insurance for the rest of us.

Thanks for being so helpful but I figured it out.
I was just wondering will Sprint let you upgrade to a new device with the One Up Program (or with their standard upgrade program) if you have a rooted phone? I have an EVO 4G LTE rooted with CM 10.1 and my upgrade is a few months away. Did Sprint give anyone problems? Or do they not care?
Thanks

My store (in Orange County, CA) is a pain in the butt with the phone being in a hacked state, if you can hide the Unlocked bootloader state, you will almost be certain to be good to go.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully sprint doesnt give me any problems.
The store here didn't care when I traded in my rooted and custom ROM Evo 3D
I've never seen em give a damn about root and custom ROMs, after having my screen replaced 3 times and speaker twice (last speaker got me a whole new bezel, but I remained S-off, so I know they didn't swap out. YMMV. If there's more than one store close, I'd just go do it with root, if they give you any guff, flash stock and hit the other one.
Sent from my EVO 4G LTE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You can always just RUU the phone and use regaw leinads tool to set it back so the bootloader looks like it is s-off!
I've traded in rooted phones at my local corporate store and they never cared, even when I told them it was rooted.
