Hi All,
When I use headphones (tried 3 different pairs) whenever I listen to any audio output, whether from a game, mp3s, radio, system noises, there's always a lot of static and/or hiss. It's in the background and not too terrible but I'm thinking there's something wrong with the hardware in my Photon. I tried taking out the battery and it made no difference.
Anyone else have this issue? Should I return it? Any advice?

I use Moto bluetooth headset to listen and don't have any additional noise over what would normally be there (say, compared to what it sounded like on my EVO).
Do you get this background noise through the phone speaker as well or just the headset? Might be something with the audio plug on the phone.
If you have tried other headsets and the phone speaker is either doing it or not, wouldn't hurt to take it in to a Sprint store and have them check it out.

I would exchange it. I guess it is the luck of the draw. My new photon has been less buggy overall - not just with this issue. The other one wasn't terrible but there were a lot more fcs and hard crashes. Could be just coincidence but with the audio jack issue too seems like there just might be bad ones out there.

I tried my evo 3d in my cars aux in today and noticed an annoying hiss that wouldn't go away even if i turned the volume on the phone right down to nothing. when the weather animation sound plays i hear the hiss but it goes away as soon as it stops. It seems when it is doing any audio processing I hear the hiss.
Anyone else have this issue?

Does anyone know how the samsungs do with music I hate unwanted noise although it's the worst in my car but I can still hear it in the headphones.
Any difference if it is charging or not? If it is really bad when charging then it is a ground loop...

I was having that problem with my Zune and my XM back in the day. It works perfectly.
I noticed my ipod touch is way louder and the hiss doesn't change when the volume is all the way up or down. I wonder if we can boost the volume then it wouldn't be so noticeable.
It has something to do with the hardware. The ground loop isolator KiamatDusk suggested may help (not sure because I haven't used one) but better quality hardware has better signal to noise ratios. I'd say try the ground loop but otherwise I don't think there's anything you can do.

There were a few threads a couple weeks ago about the Rezound's audio interference when listening over the 3.5mm jack, but no one has updated those in a while, and it wasn't clear whether this was a widespread issue or just a few units. There's been a couple articles on major websites (e.g. theverge.com), but they all quote HTC's statement that this is "an isolated issue with only a few reports." Needless to say, I don't quite trust that statement.
The issue I'm talking about is the chirp/crackle/whine that happens when listening to audio. It sounds like a data transmission from the radio or cpu. You can easily hear it by listening to audio with the phone's volume turned all the way down, through headphones or plugged into a car's stereo.
My own Rezound definitely has this issue, so I'm wondering whether I should try to get it replaced by Amazon (I'm two weeks in to my 30 day window). But besides this issue, everything else about it has been fine. So, my good people, it's up to you! Is this something that's on every unit, or just a few? Please vote so we can know how widespread this issue is!
Me and my wife have been through a total of 6 and all have had it, but some worse than others. Got a refurb from Verizon a while back and its not near as bad but still there.
Yesterday, I asked HTC for an ETA on the patch to fix this, but haven't heard back yet.

I hear a slight slight buzz for a few seconds when I pause audio, it is absolutely inaudible while any other sound is playing though, so I dont know if I have the same problem.

I've noticed this only happens with my rezound when it's charging and I try to play music through headphone jack at the same time
I have it, got a vzw replacement and it also had it. Tried demos at 2 different stores, both had it. I think they all have it. Just need to turn the volume down in a quiet environment. Personaly I can hear it during calls. It's not terrible, but when you know it's there you always here it.
I must be lucky. I don't have that problem with the audio. So far, my device is working great. I have different headsets and have not heard that. I have a very expensive over the ears headset. And a way cheaper Bose in-ear headset and nothing but good sound.

I have really good hearing, but I could barely hear the static in the VZW store over the ambient noise in the background. But finding the same problem on 5 different phones between stores in NY, NJ, and a certified factory replacement makes me believe it's widespread. If not they should be able ensure that a replacement doesn't have the same problem.
Since the poll is about 50/50 I'll try another factory certified replacement.
Even though I can't recall anyone who's reported the sound issue ever receiving a replacement without a sound problem.
I have heard "hissing" before. But my Rezound does not make it. I am very familiar with and it's one of those things that I don't like. In fact, its common with some of the low quality burned CDs some people make. It's something I dislike. A lot. lol. I too can like good audio quality. It's the reason I spend a lot of money on high quality headsets. If various music formats made that hissing. And not just low quality tracks I would know. Good luck.

I'm not really noticing this besides when I'm on YouTube. It seems like if you have a continuous flow of sound, its hardly recognizable (especially at a high volume). For example, while listening to music, I hardly notice this, but when I'm listening to someone talk on YouTube, in between the persons sentences I can hear the static. Also if I am watching YouTube, if I pause a video I can hear the staticy whining for a good 2 seconds perfectly clear

I'm not sure if this has to do with the x2 or just cm7 but I can't seem to figure it out. The audio without headphones is perfectly fine, but with them only the instrumental parts can be heard occasionally you can hear kind of a digital chirp of the vocals.tried figuring it out in dsp and music settings but nothing. Any advice on this is very much appreciated.

No problems with or without my headphones under CM7. Maybe your headphone port is bad?
Have you tried hooking up a different pair of headphones to see if it might be the headphones or the connector?
Have you tried it under a different ROM to see if you're getting the same problem?
Is this something that you only experience when listening to music with your headphones? Try checking the audio port to see if its got any lint in it. You can clear it out with a paperclip and you might be surprised to see how much has built up. It'd also be a good idea to test your phone with other headphones.
If this is happening with/without headphones, I'm not sure what would cause this. Maybe try a different music player?

This happened to my Inspire 4G with CM7.1. The problem dissappeared upon installing ICS with aospX and kept working fine with IceColdSandwich, but several other problems forced me to return to Gingebrear. Now with CM 7.2 the problem is again.
It is not a total attenuation. It is a DSP setting that seems to be optimized for karaoke, because it selectively suppresses voice frequencies. However, all settings in DSP manager are turned off. Turning on Stage Virtual Room barely improves it. I can hear some voices, but really bad.
I think it's probably your headphones wearing out. I had a similar problem and a new pair of headphones immediately fixed the issue.
you got a case on that phone? I stopped using my otterbox 'cause every time i plugged in headphones, they'd act very stupid (sometimes giving the "no vocals" thing, sometimes cutting in and out)
I've also noticed that some headphone jacks don't do a good job of locating themselves and you can actually push them too far in.
I use a set of samsung headphones that have four contacts on the 3.5mm jack instead of the typical Tip-ring-sleeve three contact design. these are the ONLY headphones I have used that give me zero problems (unless I use the otterbox case along with them)
between the stupid angle on the hole for the 3.5mm jack on the phone, and a plethora of minute differences between jack designs, generally the X2 and headphones are a marriage made in hell...

Hi all,
I have this static/buzzing noise whenever I play music. It just stays there in the background and it's completely noticable. I also get this sound, whenever I get a notification, like a sms, e-mail etc. also, if I turn the volume to 0 and I play a song, all I hear is that static/buzzing noise.
But, whenever I pause the music, the noise stays there for a few seconds and than it dissapears. But when I play music again, the static/buzzing noise comes back...
I have tried different roms, kernels, music players and different earphones.
None of the above seemed to solve my problem.
Could anyone help me?

Have you tried other headphones? Have you experienced this on other devices? I ask because it is normal to hear a little hiss/noise from audio devices when they're powered and no signal is coming through if the volume is up. Just some devices have more than others... If it's buzzing, though, that could be a bad ground in the connection. It could be the headphones or the headphone plug on the phone.
If another set of headphones doesn't do the trick, you may have something faulty on the Evo. That is if you already went back to full stock to test.

I tried many headphones, no static noise when it's in an iPod. Never experienced a static noise on my iPod.
so you tried other pairs of headphones in your evo? Not just compared ipod to evo right? The plug could be touching a little differently in the evo between headphones and might be completely different in an ipod. This is why some people experience tracks skipping randomly when there's an inline mic.
But if another set of headphones with the evo produces the same problem, it could be faulty hardware. might have to get it replaced if it's that big a deal to you.
Good luck, just hope I could be more help. It'd be easier to hear and get a clearer idea of what is happening exactly.

Well, I had this since day 1 of my evo. My mother's sgs has this too =/
Hey guys, does anyone have this issue? The audio from the loudspeaker is just crap, and also the position of it is away from the screen?? What sense does that make? I'm trying to watch a video, not broadcast the video's audio to everyone in my general area (except me).
Now that's a physical problem and can't be fixed. What I'm really mad / inraged about is the jack audio. Any type of headphones I plug into is extremely quite. Compared to my old phone (xperia play) I can't hear anything....is this normal? Does anyone else have any similar problems? I can't even wear these outside and listen to music, the wind and car noise is far louder. I'm forced to bring my old xperia play instead just to hear something (which btw, it's like twice as loud on this phone) and if that's going to be the case every day then it's time to sell this Evo 3D.
Another side note is that the range of the audio is also not very good, I can hear it struggle with high ranges as it makes "pops" in the audio...very disappointing..

My audio has always been fine, but maybe you could try using an EQ or something (might need to be rooted)

It's possible that my phone is faulty, but let me ask you this; what volume is your phone at when you think it's fine? I have to place mine at max to be "fine", not great, but fine. While the xperia play is at 50% being just fine.

I personally keep mine at 30% - 40%, it's a comfortable volume. Anything past 70% is a bit too loud. Do you think it may be your headphones..? Or it could possibly be a software issue like your ROM.

Originally I thought it was my rom, so I flashed another; same issue, so then I flashed the RUU...same issue. Tried different headphones, same issue, tried the same headphones on different devices...works completely fine at loud audio. Guess the phone is screwed. It already doesn't have any gsm radio connectivity.

Yeah, a hardware issue would make sense if nothing else is working.

Are you using the HTC headphones? Because after plugging in the original HTC headphones it came with, I found that these headphones are loud and working correctly. So it seems that any other 3rd party headphones will not duplicate the same result. That is unfortunately because I hate the htc ones, they don't cancel out background sound at all. They all have the exact same jack, 3 rings, same size, etc. But the HTC one is different. When plugging those headphones into my xperia it gives an error and says they aren't supported. So it's obvious that HTC put some type of technology into them that differs them from regular headphones.
Edit: Alright, so I tried yet another pair of headphones lying around and they work fine too. Is it possible that I tried the worlds only two headphones that don't work well with this phone? In any case, I'm no longer mad about the jack audio, it's obviously fine. But the loudspeaker is and always will be an issue, which sucks but oh well.

Nope, using third-party (JVC) headphones. Good to see you've got it sorted out though. Also I agree about the loudspeaker, it's a piece of crap. My old Evo 4G had a better one.
My phone is quite loud!
On mwakious Rom and it has tweaked audio settings.
It's gsm but maybe try the xloud mod available. Should improve audio volume
