I've got this problem with my tab (quick battery drainage). Symptoms would be your 100% charged tab would go down to 0% in unusual shorter time ( like 2-4 hours). You put it on charger and tab would be charged back to 100% again in substantial short time like 2-3 hours instead of 6-7 hours.
Well, after looking at this issue I think I have come up with solution.
At least, my tab looks like it's back on track... though, to say for sure I would need another couple days of testing.
The problem is not runaway wild application on a background but battery control circuit. This chip reports to OS much smaller battery capacity as it is for some reason. I will not go into details but here is what you need to try:
Flash stock kernel (may be custom kernel is not the reason for bad chip calibration and I'm 90% positive but just to be on safe side). You don't need to do factory wipe in OEM recovery for our purpose.
You also don't need to wipe batterystats.bin or use "Battery Calibration" apps from market (which does exactly the same wipe just in more end user friendly way). This wipe serves no other purpose then refreshing your usage statistics.
You also don't need to drain your battery all way down... nice, this way you don't have to wait for too long.
Well, here we go:
charge tab somewhere in between 80 and 100%.
edit: remove charger
shutdown tab (not put in hibernate/sleep) for 1 hour.
edit: turn tab on and run it for 30-40 min. or whatever it takes to drop charge to 40-50%.
shutdown tab again for 5 hours (overnight).
turn tab again and check... you should be fine now, charge it again 100% and use as usual.
That should do correct chip calibration.
PS: the reason why this chip calibration went bad at the first still remains open.

Edit: here is calibration procedure which was modified down this thread ...
1. in CWM/recovery let it sit till battery in terminal will show less then 3700. The less you can get it the better. 3400 is probably absolute minimum.
2. shut down tab and let it sit for 1 hour.
3. plug it to charger and charge it for 5 hours.
4. disconnected charger and let it sit for 1 hour.
5. boot up your tab and test it, it your battery still not calibrated you can flash back your backup and repeat calibration procedure.
Edit: if you physically disconnect battery (you have to disassemble tablet) and keep it for couple min. that would trigger FG chip to start with default SOC curve.
Any follow up? Did this fix work for you since yesterday or anyone else?

How long your tab usually works on one charge? if 8 and more hours - then no, I would think that there is a bug in Android charger control.

May I ask what do you mean by rest time intervals of 1 and 5 hours?
Does it mean that the calibration will only take place when the tab is off for 1 hour, then switch on and used till battery depleted by a further 40% minimum and the switch off for another 5 hour. Correct?
Also , is this 40% refer to value before or after calibration? I asked this because when I restart my tab the value changed (ex: 36% before restart to 53% after restart)

Yes that's correct.
Fuel gauge chip will take 1 measurement of open circuit voltage and internal resistance only when battery is at rest (no charge/discharge) for at least 40min. - so I say 1 hour just to be sure...
Consecutive measurements, from which gauge chip can derive capacity of the battery have to be at least 40% and 5 hours apart.
Technically speaking, that 40% difference can be in either directions. Say you have 40% as of now, leave it in rest for 1 hour, then charge it to 100% and leave it at rest for 5 hours and you will have same result.
Condition "at rest" means voltage change less then 4mV (or mkV) per sec. - I don't remember.
When tablet is in sleep some background processes may awake tablet briefly and reset the 1 hour counter - so to make it work for sure, simply do shutdown.

same problem im facing. This is why im wondering is the 40% value of before or after calibration. Because although it might drop 40% before calibration is done, the real drop value might be less then that. Which means to the chip it might just see a drop of example 20% of real drop and hence it didn't perform the calibration because conditions of 40% is nt met.
I did forget to flash back to the stock kernel (using pershoot's).
I just flashed to doc's slim 6.5 which has a modified stock kernel (couldnt find just the stock kernel and my internet is too slow to download the entire stock rom.). Going to try this method again but starting at 40%
1.Battery at 40%, shutdown tablet for 1 hour.
2.Charge tablet to 100% (while shutdown)
3.Leave tablet shutdown for 5 hours
4.Pray to droid gods, find my rain stick and begin dark resurrection ritual while watching true blood.
My only question now is... Should I turn the tablet back on after the 1 hour shutdown? Or should I leave it shutdown and just plug in charger till its 100% charged, then let it stay shutdown for 5 hours?

I'm going to go ahead and try this method right now! But for me... sometimes my battery will not charge unless the unit is shutdown (ever since battery issues started.). I hope this time it will charge while its on.
Also the instructions say to flash the stock kernel before trying this method... Did you do this? And were you able to flash back to pershoot's without issue?
*Update:
It doesn't look like its charging, (system on). Should I just shutdown and charge it to 100%? Then continue with said method? Anyone know if this method will work while tablet is shutdown through the entire process?

My tab was charging while on, sometimes it wouldn't show it till after a reboot. I did mine from stock 3.1. (A backup I made before I took the TW OTA) I have not re-flashed pershoot's kernel and probably wont till the bug is worked out. I did however flash the deodexed stock TW and flashed a theme and have had no issues.
Edit: if its not chargin while on, i would charge it all the way while off then turn it on so it can read the battery then start the 1 hour power down.

I was sure that our p7510 model was using TI bq20z75 fuel gauge chip but with new information looks like it's Maxim 17042 chip... It's embarrassing but I have to stay corrected. TI chip would calibrate itself in procedure outlined above as for Maxim - I don't know yet. I'm looking at it.

Driver for Maxim is pretty messy and complex (because it's messy). In contrast driver for TI is simple and straight forward (because TI chip is smart). A lot of this is way over my head, but my battery calibration seems to be accurate, although I can't be absolutely sure because I have no stats from the previous calibration to compare it to. I do know for sure that after this process the bug of it draining then after reboot going back to what it should be is gone.
so i guess we need to flash back the stock ROM w/o TW for this procedure to work? I was trying the same steps with StarBurst + pershoot kernel it seem that it doesn't work. Anyone manage to calibrate with pershoot kernel?

I have a pretty serious problem with the battery life on my tg01! I've read the other threads here and at Modaco on the battery problems but thought I'd raise it again. I have a mugen battery now (1100) but am barely getting a couple of hours use. The battery indicator gets stuck and can go from 100% to 40 suddenly, before a few minutes later switching off. I have the original wm 6.1 rom and spb mobile shell 3.5, but the problem was there still when that was uninstalled. I can leave it charging overnight and the battery can suddenly drop and be dead in a few hours.
I'd have thought mugen battery, although only a 1100 one would have made the difference, but there's something definitely wrong because it should not be that bad!!!
What do you suggest is the best thing to do?? Will a different rom definitely solve it? or will it be down to one of the numerous programs I've installed? Or something else? A faulty phone?? It's a problem others definitely have, but is there a single working solution??

as far as i know battery life is a problem with all tg01's, atleast i have the same problem. the huge screen takes alot of power, add 3g or wifi and your phones going to be dead within 2 hours ! one way to overcome this is to make sure you disable data connections when not needed and reduce the backlight settings. i've been able to get over 24 hours using this method but if you want longer life the only real solution im aware of is to get the 2600 mugen battery.
EDIT: I should also mention sense and other memory hungry apps ie opera will effect battery life greatly, infact i find if i use sense my phone can be dead within 8 hours and thats with minimal useage. Constant use of opera will have the phone drained in a matter of an hour and a half.
As for a rom solving it, i dont really think its tied to a rom in anyway but you may want to try noskers rom - i find this one to be the most stable and battery life definately seems longer but i may be imagining that !
Get Task Manager, go to tab "Devices" and stop device "BAT1". Battery indicator will not work, but you can use tg01 till battery fully discharge. After power off (there will be no "shutting down" screen) plug charger immediately.
By this you will use all the capacity of battery, so you can determine if it's battery problem or tg01 battery level measuring circuit.
I've heard about battdrvr.dll modifications for other PPCs to use with higher capacity batteries, but couldn't find anything for tg01.

will try that definitely. it happens with the new mugen battery too however.
The Power Saving Settings I use are CPU medium (have tried low and high too), limit CPU speed for battery (tried on and off options) Wifi power consumption, restrict sleep mode OFF, Enable Wifi during sleep mode to OFF, backlight very low. Adjust backlight automatically OFF, 30 seconds backlight timer, 1 minute device sleep timer.
I am guessing there is a rogue program using up the CPU constantly running down the battery. Have you tried a hard reset? (probably a good idea to upgrade the ROM while your at it )
Well I've tried disabling the battery device in task manager. I'm not sure that made a difference, but at least I wasn't able to see the meter jump around..
a hard reset may well sort it, and may end up doing that. I can't see any high intensity CPU programs. anything else? will google latitude suck up the battery this quick?
One other thing which has started recently, which may persuade me to hard reset is that the blue led light flashes long after an sms has arrived. a soft reset stops this, but it will start again when another sms comes through. I've tried one such notification reset program on this forum but its made no difference.
what can be done to stop this?

But how can I stop the screen going off immediately when a call comes in? I'd rather it waits say 10 secs then go off. the options in pocket toolman do not seem to work. I need the screen on a bit because often I switch to speaker straight away.

I used to charge it overnight with backlight at full level and it would go from 100% to 0% after using it for a minute or two in the morning. I couldn't turn the device back on, even with charger plugged back in because the battery was so empty.
The trick is to turn off the backlight / wifi when it's done charging, or if you charge overnight, turn it completely off so it doesn't drain the battery when it's done charging.

This is not true. When the battery charges up fully, the orange charging light is extinguished to let you know it has finished charging, however the battery is still supplied with power to keep it fully charged. I know this because I use GPS alot on the phone and when it's fully charged using the car charger, it will still be 100%.
Try hard resetting your phone too. If it doesn't work, then there is something wrong with your phone!
Well it's bizzarre... the battery meter on the tg01 is certainly pretty dodgy.
with the flashing leds, what does anyone suggest? is there a way to change the led notifications back to default?
And regarding the screen going off immediately when a call comes in, it looks like there's no fix - similar threads still have no answer, unless anyone has more suggestions?
Update: I have done a full hard reset and a wm6.5 upgrade but the battery issues are still here. Has everyone who has had this issue taken it back to orange? It barely lasts 5 hours the battery.
Anything else at all to suggest???

I stand corrected.
While this was true before and had tested a few times with two different TG01 both with Orange UK stock ROM, I have retested it now and it does not happen anymore, but I have flashed a new ROM...

I was reading this thread and preferred to add my 'query' here rather than start a new one.
My TG01 has an original WM 6.5 rom minus the SPB Shell. I haven't experiences any negative experiences yet except for the fact that I have often heard about charging the battery for 8 hours etc and charging it with phone off which I always do except on few occasions I connect with USB cable to my pc /laptop...in my case I will charge my set with the toshiba wall charger that came with the set and orange LED will illuminate a few seconds after charger is plugged-in..from there onwards the orange LED will stay illuminated for maximum 3 to 4 hours and then will turn-off. I am not having any battery problems except for the usual battery drain depending on usage and apps but nothing unusual.
I'd like to know if this is normal? Is anybody else experiencing this? Not charging more than 3 to 4 hours (orange LED turning off after 3 to 4 hours).
I would appreciate some help on this 'doubt'

I think it's problem with driver and charging akku. I have custom rom with 6.5.5
and when i charge my akku when it is on 20 % after 20-30 min shows me that 90 % full... After 1 1/2 hour akku full charged.

Well. it's not the solution, but this procedure can be a useful roundabout to access to wifi, or allow you to take a vital picture when you really need it and your battery is under 20% charge.
Imagine that you must send urgently a picture and you can't do it because someone from Toshiba decided this stupid limitation when you are at the end of the battery life.. following the maciek90's procedure, you can save this limitation and drain your battery up to the 0% if you want

guys, also another thing i learnt from my physics class is that putting a recharegable battery in the freezer for 1 hr, somehow give it longer battery! I tried this on my tg01 battery, it strangely worked , or it was all in my mind!
you've gotta make sure the battery isnt wet from condensation when you put itback in the phone! my battery last slightly longer. i dont do it often, only once every now and again... try at your own risk!

I definitely think it is either level measuring circuit problem or battery driver itself - not too big power consumption.
I can repeat without any problems situation where battery level suddenly decreases about 20-30% . I noticed it only during internet operations via GSM so utilizing radio. Why , I do not know . How to fix it ? I do not know yet but it is enough to restart system so that battery indicator start to show correct value - until next failure .
I thought when bad indication occures it would be enough to stop-start baterry driver using way You described. It does not work. Stopping driver cause battery indicator shows unknown level. Starting driver not fix it. Battery indicator still shown unknown value. Only restart fix it. It should not behave this way.
Maybe problem is not in driver but top bar of today screen when battery indicator exists, should have any kind of reset too?

Today morning next described previously error concerned with GSM radio.
I had GSM radio switched off in the night and phone in sleep mode.
Morning, when I set phone to operational mode , battery indicator showed 50% - the same as yesterday evening.
When I switched GSM radio on, battery indicator suddenly showed 30% and none phone operation could change it. Only system restart caused battery indicator started to show correct value again - 50%

yes! i am not the only one! recently i got a data plan for my tg01. when i use the data connection for 1-2 minutes, the battery drops 10% and it will stay at its false value until i soft reset. i thought that the problem was with the rom that i was using but i guess im wrong. what ROM are you on? it is very annoying and i have to constantly reset my phone. i have done some test, and if i keep using it, on data, the battery could conpletely go dead like when it is out of power, then when i power back in it is back to its true value. any solutions?!
Newbie here - I have a stock G Tablet.
Have added many apps and also Flash and it is working great.
My one concern is that however long I charge the unit,
I can't get the battery indicater to go above 93%.

Try to recharge with the device powered off, and let it charge for at least half an hour after the light turns green.
I've left it plugged in a good 2 to 3 hours after the green light came on.
It still only reaches 93%.
Is it a bad battery, bad charger, etc.,

Do a full cycle, all the way dead and then charge as stated for about 30 minutes after the green light comes on. It could be just a calibration problem. How long is the battery lasting for you?
I use it for short periods throughout a day, so it is difficult to gauge an accurate time.
A rough guess would be approximately 6+ hours.
I always thought it wasn't good to totally drain this type of battery ?

I think this is a LiPo battery - if so, then its is OK to let it drain all the way - just don't do it too often. You should *always* do two full discharge/recharge cycles on any Lithium-based battery as soon as you purchase it, and again about every month or two.
For removable Lithium-based batteries (i.e. *not* for gtab!), if you aren't going to use the battery for, say, more than a week, the best thing to do is to discharge it to about 50% and then put it in the refrigerator. When you are going to start using it again, let it warm to room temperature for at least a few hours to a day (depending on how big it is), *then* put it on the charger. Absolutely do not charge the battery cold as the thermal shock could damage the battery.
The initial discharge/recharge cycles "primes the pump" so that you get the maximum capacity out of the battery (who knows how long the battery has been 'sitting on the shelf'), and the ongoing discharge/recharge cycles keeps the battery at its maximum capacity *and* allows the calibration electronics more accurately track the slow decline of the battery's capacity.
BTW, my gtab's battery lasted on-and-off for almost 2 1/2 days. That was 'sleeping' it at night (*not* turning it off!) and using it on-and-off wifi/surfing/playing AB during the day. I must say, the gtab's battery life is phenomenal!

Thanks. Tried the full discharge and then full charge with the gtab turned off, left for about an hour after the green indicator, but still stuck at 95%. Even deleted the batterystats.bin file. no change. must i do two cycles of full discharge and charge?
I'm having similar issues. I powered off my gtab overnight and let it charge for 8-9 hours and I have not been able to get the battery to say 100%. I'm going to leave it on all day and let it discharge completely and try again tonight.
Drained battery and left it charging overnight and while I was at work (15+ hours) and its still at 95%. I wonder if I should exchange it now.... I'll give it another week....
If you do two full discharge/recharge cycles and the battery is still not showing 100%, then I would take it back. Either it is the battery or the battery calibration electronics that isn't working (my bet would be the battery). Furthermore, since the battery is "not removable", its just not worth keeping it and taking the chance.
If the battery had been removable, then Viewsonic could have just sent you a new battery instead of having a whole gtab come back....
(Note for Viewsonic - this is where removable batteries are superior to non-removable!)

Before you return it check the actual battery life. If it turns out that it's just a calibration issue and if your happy with everything else, perhaps you should keep it.

mine is different... I can charge up to 100%, and keep using it for few hours at night, put it to sleep, then I wake up in the morning and find the battery completely drained... any1 has the similar issues??

You can try going to settings/applications/running services and turn off all non-essential services before putting it to sleep.
Mine doesn't get above 96%, will have to try the suggestions here but overall I'm still very happy with battery life of the 96%...

have you guys notice your battery temperature? i got 2 gtab but both operating at different temperature 1 at 23-24 other is around 31?
My battery life seems pretty good even though it doesn't go higher than 95-96%. I saw in another thread to try resetting battery statistics in clockwork recovery to see if that will fix the battery display problems. I'm going to try that next.
I've got the Malata Zpad (SMB-1002-3G) and mine now wont go over 91% (happened on the 3rd day). It used to charge to 100% no problem for the first two days.
I did a recovery (format) when you press the power and volume up button, but that didn't seem to do anything (other than wipe all my settings and put it back to original factory settings of course)
I'm pretty sure the battery is fine, and lasts just as long, but it would be good to be able to reset the battery status.
PS: My Zpad is not rooted or anything. It's pretty much standard (just running Launcher Pro).

Do you have Clockwork installed by chance? If you do you can charge the battery all the way up and then go into clockwork and reset the battery stats.

I've bought a new legit/official (has holo, serials etc.) Atrix battery.
Charged it to 100%.
During usage, its draining literally 10% an hour with very light usage (several minutes an hour). In short its draining at three times the speed of my 1 year old battery.
I've tried wiping battery stats but that didn't work.
Any ideas, or is the stats just buggered and I just gotta run it in? (ie it will go to zero then sit on zero for 5-6 hours lol)
note I've gone back to my original battery in meantime rofl
EDIT: The actual problem is that the batt is reporting much less capacity than it actually has

I have a similar problem with the original battery that came with phone it drains the charge quickly to 1% and on one 1% it gives a battery life of more time than the time it took to discharge from 100%.i was thinking of buying a new battery but now i am confused that what should i look before buying the battery to get a battery that can show me the exact charge on the indicator.
I have tried all tutorial of calibration used different roms and kernels but nothing seems to solve the issue.
well I might try that then, just let it run to zero see how long it lasts then see whether the stats come good over time

When I have battery stat problems the following has always fixed it:
1) leave phone on until it dies
2) take back off phone and plug into wall charger
3) after batt symbol shows 100% (without unplugging or turning off the phone) remove the battery. After a minute or so battery symbol will have question mark
4) put battery back in and leave it for at least 2 hours (seems like I have had to press the switch sometimes but you don't want the phone to reboot or you will have to start all over)
5) reboot into CWM and wipe the battery stats
6) reboot and it should be good to go
Anyone else found a fix to this yet?
I'm now running ICS (turl build) issue is still there.
Steps taken to resolve
- discharge to zero
- charge to max
- wipe stats
still there.
The weird thing is that the actual capacity is fine, it can last all day no worries, just from midday onwards it thinks its 1% so has annoying LED flashing at you, also you have no idea how much batt it actually has.

Nothing will work i have tried almost every tutorial. Recently i found out the phone is showing the the full capacity of battery only 500 that's why i think we will have to change that with the actual voltage to get a accurate battery indicator.What's ur battery full charge design check if from the root exploler

I'll try the insert empty bat into already connected phone, charge to 100% remaining off, repeat trick overnight, then report back.
FWIW on my 'good' battery which is 1 year old ROFL it says 1880
not sure how changing it would help though or is even possible?. It must be dynamically reported somehow as my good battery gives me a 'good' stat.

Can people PLEASE stop telling us to calibrate we've BOTH DONE THAT MANY TIMES NOW. The problem is that the capacity of the battery is being reported as 500mah not 1930 or whatever its supposed to be. THe actual running time of the battery is fantastic, just thinks its at 0 all the time lol

The charging thing is something that is (seemingly) well known throughout the community. I have tried to do the calibration, but it doesn't seem to work that well (at least for me). There is a thread around here somewhere for fixing the issue. I just have never tried it due to work reasons.
The charging past 99% is a known issue with most of the ROMs. There is a thread in here that takes you step by step to get it to display 100%. Basically....
Charge the phone long enough to where you know it should be at 100% even though it is still displaying 99%.
Power the phone off while it is still connected to the charger and then pull the battery.
With the battery pulled, power the phone back on until you see the battery indicator with the "?".
Put the battery back in and reboot.
You will then see the display of 100% with the phone still connected to the charger. The only downside is that as soon as you disconnect the charger, it will drop back to 99%. I have done this multiple times.

I read good things about it.
First of all, use Wipe Battery Stats function at recovery.
1 - Discharge all your smartphone battery;
2 - Connect it to the wall charger and don't turn it on;
3 - Wait till it shows you 100%;
4 - Remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, put it again and keep it turned off;
5 - Wait 30 minutes, keep it connected to the wall charger and press power button till it turns on;
6 - Wait 30 minutes, keep it connected to the wall charger and use Battery Calibration App to calibrate it;
It doesn't make any sense, but sometimes, after step 5, i prefer connect it to usb port in a laptop or computer and wait one hour. It always worked with me.
It might solve your problem .
Wiping battery stats does nothing. it just takes a few charge cycles. If it's a new rom and it's draining fast it's also cause you are probably playing with it a lot

It could be a bluesleep problem... Install CPU Spy App and look if it goes into deep sleep mode. If not, there is a fix for it.
Aside from the OP's issue with the battery draining quickly, why does it matter if it doesn't show 100%?
Nothing can ever 'really' be 100% charged because as soon as you take it off mains it is instantly on the battery at lets say 99.9999%...
As long as the battery doesn't drain quickly I couldn't care less if its showing 99 or 100%.
The problem was that it was draining very quickly to smt like 50% and then it would hold longer...I just wiped everything, restored a neutrino 2.7 nandroid backup i had, flashed the jug fix v2 and now it shows 100%
Although there are similar reports of battery issues, I haven't found anyone with the same issue. I have an SGS2 running 4.0.4 - all stock and although I'm on Orange, it's not an Orange handset. It's just over a year old.
Since being on 4.0.4, I've noticed the battery level drops when I switch it back on/reboot. It has been dropping by 20-30% but recently it's been dropping all the way to 1%. It has also taken to switching itself off with no warning (or shutdown) - I can only assume because it suddenly thinks the battery is at 0% despite what it was seconds beforehand.
As a typical example, it was charged to 100% (4200mV as shown via *#0228#). After a few hours standard use, it was around 60%. Then, seemingly when I'm doing something intensive like recording video or downloading something over a data connection, the screen goes off and I realise it's dead. I restart and the "battery critical" warning comes up - 1%. It dies again and I remove the battery for a minute, put it back, then power up. This time it says 9%. Then after a short while it dies again. So I connect the charger. After a couple of seconds, the battery charging indicator shows about a 1/3rd full. I switch on and the battery is now at 46%. Whatever the issue, reattaching the charger seems to rescue it - even if it's not back to the original level. The charge levels (in mV) seem to match the percentage.
This happened so much that a few weeks ago, it wouldn't even start and I had to wipe and reinstall everything. It does work now, but still crashes at least once a day. I'm not sure what else to do other than wait for Jelly Bean and hope that will miraculously fix the problem.
I have attempted "battery calibration" though it's a bit difficult - and I've read that it doesn't actually work anyway.
I am a noob - so please treat me like an idiot in case I've missed something obvious.

1.Battery Calibration apps don't work(They don't do anythight good) Battery calibrates selfs...
2.I think that your battery is dead like my (Buy one it cheap)

Yup, battery calibration is a myth. Google already states that you do not need to reset your fuel gauge for ICS/JB devices. All battery parameters are automatically reset when it's 100% charge.

My battery went from 50% to 15% after a reboot.
The bizarre thing, though, was that I watched it increase from 15% to 20% charge even though it was not plugged in.
