is it possible for anyone to make a camera app based off the droid 3 camera ... i hate the crap going on with the droid x2 cam i deleted it because it can't deal but wish it would get fixed any thoughts i wish i new how to do this stuff ...

Eclipse v2.1 has the Droid 3 camera by default. It's in the Development forum...
I am not sure if i am clue less but the eclipse thing is missing like most apps and there is no camera on it not sure what to do

Eclipse is a full ROM, and it most definitely has apps and the D3 camera. I've been using it for a week. Check the development section for download instructions.

im not sure if this all helps, but my camera is freezing and force closing all the time and the video is chopping and also force closes? thx if u can help....im a noob so please explain and give directions thx again

Some suggestions:
1) update to the newest version (kaosFroyo is at v38, I believe)
2) look through the kaosFroyo thread to see if others are having similar issues
3) try a different ROM
It's good to try different ROMs anyway. They are all a little different and you won't really know which one you like the best until you try several.

Also... before you flash the new rom make sure you dalvik and factory wipe.

I've tried a bunch of these ROMs and most of them have so much junk packed into them. So far the cleanest smoothest ROM is:
[ROM][GPL] CELB Froyo 3.5(Trackball and Led notifications working )10-26-10
Conap keeps all the junk out for you to install yourself. All these ROMs have a little camera issue. If you leave the camera app open and walk from your phone it'll reboot the phone. I can live with that one.
Try that CELB Froyo 3.5 it's really smooth.

For the camera issue, try using Vignette (awesome 3rd party cam) or camera magic.
Btw, my rom is pretty much modeled after conap's, so you can included FroShedYo in that list too ... less junk... more phone

Totally agree... worth every penny fo sho! Camera magic is damn nice for being free, too. And it's the quickest to activate ... but picture quality isn't as good as Vignette's.

I'm sure theres a way, though you'd loose 720p video as the AOSP camera doesn't support it.

I ran cm7 on my Fascinate as well. What is it that you're missing? From what I remember, it didn't have much more than the AOSP cam that you can simply push to the X2...

I'm pretty sure CM7's camera is just the AOSP camera which can be found in the Eclipse ROM by nitro. Or the MIUI camera which is found in my ROM Molten. Both cameras are better than stocks imo.

Yeah i have to say, I have had my X2 about a month or so now and my D2 Camera put's this one to shame. I am VERY disappointed in the camera on this phone esp. when I use it daily!
Try the Bionic camera. I've tested it and it seems to work the best for the X2.

+1 I've tried them all and this is as close to fluid as it gets. If you're looking for 100 features, you'll probably need to buy one from the market.

just copy it to your system/apps/ folder correct the permission to rw- r-- r-- and reboot the phone. make sure you have removed the previous camera installs from /system/app/ and /data/app/ (if you have tried to install the automatically they may be there too)
thats so weird i have tried all that and when i reboot they are never in my app drawer or anywhere...im running stock rom deodexed.

whats weird is i kinda got it to work but its not showing up in launcher pro app drawer, but when i use a program that needs the cam it comes up but no icons anywhere to access.
@Mattfox i take all my apks from eclipse or liberty. Push to /system/app and set perms to rw-r--r-- as mentioned and reboot. If you take them from a system dump i don't believe they will work b/c of them needing the odex as well...i think.
If you're deodexed then i don't see why this wouldn't work, but i also can't remember the last time i ran stock longer than to root and get far away from stock.

Because it is based on AOKP, which is Senseless, the camera not working is one of the bugs that have not been worked out. I'm sure once a dev fixes it, there will be elation on these boards.

I'm wondering, strictly wondering, if the Camera.apk and associated .odex file could be pulled from a CM9 ported ROM and put on this one. Just to see if it works.
You'd have to manually delete the old files and put the new ones on, restart to recovery, fix permissions, and then restart.

I had to do this with the Camera on an ICS ROM and it started working. Bear in mind that it was a Sense ROM, not a Senseless one.
Try it and let us know if it works.

I know the CM9 port has the 2d camera working, so your idea might work, but even if it does, the front camera and 3d stilll are a work in progress.

I do occasionally use both, but I mainly wanted the OP to know before trying to incorporate that camera only to find stuff not working.
I do look forward to the day when cm9 and other aosp roms will fully work on the 3d.

Aaron just uploaded 38a and stated that 38b will have camera working. Check his thread. Just updated. Not too much longer.
However, if you want camera working in aosp, devil toast has working camera.

That's why I don't leave sense either, but when I do use a different launcher, I use Android Pro Widgets as those are very sense like.

hi...i was wondering if there were any different camera apk's that i could flash on my i717 Note. i am currently on Jelly Beer 3.35. I'm looking something from a different device that maybe has different tools/options than the one on this ROM. i beleive the camera that it has is the ICS one. ive heard of people using camer apk's from Motorola, HTC One X and other devices but not sure how they did it. i didn a search but couldn't find anything for the Note i717. could someone please point me in the right direction......

Read what kind of cameras and features are available for your note. Download the rom, unzip it, copy the camera apk. and any dependencies to your phone.

i have tried some of the 4.2 cameras but sphere never worked or the camcorder didnt work.

i looked at Pudding Camera in the app store....it looks pretty good, i think i might give that a try.

Hello i am currently trying to get the 4.2 Photosphere camera to work with our phone but have had no luck... It force closes and breaks. Sometimes i even get the message "Camera not found." I have tried to get a logcat but there is literally so much spam going on with my current Touchwiz rom that i find it a waste of time to comb through it or upload it. When I finally flash a AOSP rom i will try again and upload a logcat. Here is a tutorial with i found to be complete crap and lies...

They said it works when obviously it doesnt. I noticed they they installed in on the international version with the 8-Core and we are using the Quad Core model. Maybe that is the reason.

Yeah, I would be curious if it worked on an current device w/ aosp or AOKP rom, as opposed to a tw rom. I really think that tw screws the photosphere up...idk...a few more flashes and I'll know. BTW, got a link to the photosphere app? I lost mine on backup and for the life of me, I can't remember where I got a good version of it...

I tried Carbon rom and it did not work there also, i believe that is built off of Cyanogenmod so i'm pretty sure its something to do with our device specifically... but what do i know. thats why i asked this question in the first place.
Google hasn't released the code for photosphere so its buggy on aosp ROMs
ill be glad to try it out when they do. why wouldnt they have something like this ready for such a great phone?

I see that in the SlimBean rom he has a Addon for Photosphere but i dont think it is compatible with our phone =/
Also the AOSP Roms have the GalleryGoogle.apk that work but stripped of the photosphere... come on people someone has to know how to fix this.

Yes this does work on the DNA i have also confirmed this... but it does force close on our S4. I have checked that zip against a couple other zips i have found the the md5's have checked out and are the same.
Also changing the build prop does nothing to stop the crashing.

Yeah, I don't know which rom you are using, but on my rom I ended up with two gallery's and two camera's, which makes sense sort of. One gallery and camera for tw and one gallery and camera for 4.3 photosphere. I chose to leave them, but to each his own...
