Hi Every One,
Just wondering is there any stock rom out there (Root and blot removes is not a problem) i am just get irritated by themes and non compatabality with Internationl Atrix and Worst of all laggy and idle battery drain issue.
I have tried Some ROMs.
1. Bel 2.3.4 (Battery drain and laggy) used fixed FR kernal no change.
2. Alien - #3 (Same Battery issue and it says not fully optimized for Internationa Builds)
3. CherryBlur - v1.4d (Nice option to restore back to stock theme if i dont like moded theme, so far only one problem games (fruit ninja lags a lot) which were working fine on froyo seams to lag.)
ANy suggestions any one ?
P.S: I check this link

This might help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182545. Remember that gingerbread is dangerous (if flashing stuff) compared to froyo and idk if this is for international users but some say it's working. Anyways, read the comments to make sure it'll work

I have read alot of the topics almost all the last 2 months. I have thought about flashing my htc hero but I don't know which roms are the most functional with the less bugs.
I read that some roms have problem with camera where it gets green, then some cannot connect to wifi others can and same with 3G and H. Then apps2SD (what is this btw. is it so the phone can see the SD card?) and other issues have been said. Then theres the battery problem which I read, on my normally use it lasts for between 2-4 days depending on the heavy use of the phone.
Its very confusin to me with all these option and allot of custom roms from different leaks or phones and different people making them. I hope some one can clear me up a little as I know little in this area and I have tested none custom rom yet, I still run the 1.5 stock rom.
I guess if I want to flash the rom I need to follow the guide at
"#Complete Newbie Guide to Install a Custom Rom & Newbie FaQ#"
(cannot post links yet as my post count is low which is fair =) )
thank you in advance
APPS2SD lets you install apps to your SD-Card (if it's been partitioned properly), and is there because of the very limited amount of memory available on the phone for installing apps.
This link will give you a list of the ROMs available for the Hero
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=GSM Hero ROMs
-Look for a recent ROM: these usually have the most features/fixes
-Check out the known issues/bugs: If you can live with those issues until/if they're fixed, then flash that ROM.
-Look at screenshots (if the way it looks matters to you)
-Root your phone: (remember which is at your own risk, you could possibly brick your phone)
-Flash the ROM you chose, unless the issues worry you so much in which case wait for the official release in June.
Everyone has their own preference as to which ROM they choose to flash to their phone. If you like the way a certain ROM looks then flash that one. It's all about trying out different ROMs.
Regards
I have tested most of the roms in this forum and i would say like this.
All roms has its + and - but ...
If you like rosie (stock HTC) Villain 5.4 or SlideVillain 1.01 is the best, BeHero is also pretty god
If you like non rosie i would go for ahero 0.8 VanillaEclair 1.3 is god roms
Hope that helps
fwiw im currently using sushi rom and its pretty fast and efficient. once i get JIT working ill be quite the happy camper.
edit: although in retrospect its based off of fresh 2.0d so i guess its not a 2.1 rom :-/
Thread moved to QnA, not dev related.
I have followed the debate and read some of the many threads on the sub setion. But as I see it there are still issue and FC's with all roms even the ones using the official Taiwan build.
Is there any rom of now that is free of any issue so no FC and everything works?
If none 2.1 is available without any issue's, are there any earlier builds which are fully stable with everything working, faster and stable than the stock rom? Most important is that downloaded apps from market works, facebook sync, calender, camera, peoples, sms, album+rotation etc. Any of the official 2.1 out which have everything function?
Thanks
Okay, the headline might be a bit dramatic, but I've used a couple of days figuring all this android stuff out.
I've rooted my HTC Hero G2 (European version). I was previously using the official 2.1 with LauncherPro modding and stuff and I liked the speed, but wanted to try out Froyo.
So I started out by rooting..
Then I installed Fusion!ROM 2.2, but after the installation I played around with the phone a little and found it to be a bit laggy. I then started reading some stuff about Kernels and overclocking.. But it's impossible for me to find a proper and well describing guide on how to do this..
I read that it's just like flashing a rom but do you do flash it to the phone after flashing the custom rom?
Of course this is not something I played around with when using the Fusion!ROM because I downloaded the version called:
Software over-clockable version... clocks reset when phone is rebooted...
And just now I found out that I needed to download some software to overclock the phone but isn't there some easier way.. for example downloading some of the other versions, but I didn't want to download because I'm afraid of breaking my phone in unawareness.
Also I read about FroydVillain 1.4 (but is this a Froyo version? Assuming so on the name, but couldn't find a statement on the download site..) and it seems to be a very popular rom including LauncherPro and ADWLauncher.. And since I liked LauncherPro on the official 2.1, I'm thinking about checking this one out.. but again I'm stuck with the kernel/overclocking question..
I thank you in advance for a guide / some good advice and as you might have noticed I'm quite new to all this stuff so I'm sorry for being a newb
1. First you need the custom rom and if you want a kernel, you should flash the kernel on top of the custom rom, just get into recovery mode and press flash zip and choose the kernel.
2. Software over-clockable version... clocks reset when phone is rebooted just means that you can overclock your rom with software like SetCPU and overclock widget, which means that you can set your desired speed in the software. And you can't break your phone by flashing a kernel or overclocking it.
3. Yes froydVillain is a 2.2 (froyo) ROM
Flash ROM > Flash Kernel
And definitely try FroydVillain (yep, it's Froyo).
Cheers!!
I didn't expect getting an answer before tomorrow but seems I was wrong.
I just flashed the FroydVillain and I'm about to try it out.
Is there any restrictions to what the HTC Hero / G2 can handle of kernels? And what are the differences between them?
On the FroydVillain page I've find a couple of different ones.. 614 / 652 / 691 and so on.. One idea on which one is fitted for a G2?
Once again.. thanks in advance!
Everybody's Hero's are different and can handle different clock speeds. 652 is safe, most can handle 691 and the 700s are pushing it for many.
Just a matter of trial and error to see the fastest yours can take.
Doesn't the initial clock speed have some limitations on the battery life time on the phone?
I also have just one question to the FroydVillain which you might be able to answer for me...
I doesn't seem like my Lock Screen works..? I've set up a pattern but nothing really happends. I've also added the Power Control widget and ensured that the lock pattern is enabled through this widget..
EDIT: I know why.. nvm
Thread moved to Q&A.
I've recently found that my P500's touchscreen is not working how it should ...
So, I have:
Android 2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.9 (stock)
Software version: V10c-OCT-12-2010
And I would like to fix:
Touchscreen proccesor bug (the processor is used 100% when screen is touched)
Touchscreen multi-touch problem ( www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=ujc1sa-3ONY ). It is really annoying in games.
Update to 2.2.1 (if it is beter than 2.2 becouse I've heard that for optimus One is better 2.2 becouse 2.2.1 is slower) or the latest version of Android 2.2
Any way to install Flash on it ? (Lite 3.1 or Lite 4.0 or Flash 10.1... doesn't really matter)
I'm not intersted in custom ROMs or overclocking the proccesor.
Sorry for my bad english.

Fix is kernel from mik_os - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929941
For install you need custom recovery installed (needs root)

Update is available from LG update tool. By update you lost custom recovery, custom kernel and all other updates. 2.2.1 can't be rooted so custom recovery can't be installed. If you don't want use custom ROM, than you can not improve anything (no custom rom = no updates)

Not possible because Adobe not suppport ARMv6 processor, which is used in our device. And it seems, that it will never support as well.

Thanks for the help, but I still have a few questions.
What is the latest version of Android 2.2 for P500 ? It's v10E ?
I don't mind to install custom recovery or modify the firmware a bit, but I don't want to use Custom firmware made by other people (sorry, don't get me wrong, I like to use patches or bugfixes or other stuff like that to improve the performance, but I want to keep the O.S. as stock as possible ... The be honest I would like stock Android on my P500 ...)
Also, how can I kill for good an application ... I mean I kill applications with Advanced Task Manager, but they keep starting again ... It's annoying becouse even if I don't use that app, that app still stays in backgrounds and eat battery ...
And where can I get the Sense UI Wallpaper, Live Wallpapr and if possible the Sense UI widgets ?

You don't need one. Apps that stay in your RAM that doesn't use CPU cycles won't eat your battery. Also, the reason why they're starting up again is that some of your apps (or Android itself) is looking for it, so it starts the app again. Killing and restarting apps consumes a lot more CPU cycles than leaving it alone
Note: Some apps stay in RAM (which taskillers show you even if they're idle) so they can be restarted quickly. Android was designed that way.
Tip 1: Don't use task killers.
Tip 2: Get used to it (Trust me on this one. I restart rarely, therefore I have a lot of apps in RAM and I can still go for 2 - 3 days with my battery)
Tip 3: Get Watchdog from the market. It monitors apps that behave...welll...badly. Or those who have high CPU usage.
I must confirm kpbotbot's words. It is only one thing that task killer kills and it is battery. I had few, and after I uninstall that, I got small improvements in battery live. Till Adnroid 2.2 task killer makes no sense because memory and CPU management was very improved.

It can't be said like that. Every operator have their own version control. Some people also saying that some different version have same MD5 hash so... who knows. Seems, that there is only two versions - 2.2 and 2.2.1.

We'll need the error message to be able to help you out.
EDIT: And you may prefer to start your own thread for this instead of hijacking this one.
Good morning everyone
Seems to be that my GSII has serious issues running his stock rom (continuous reboots, not-working 3g etc.). I tried several factory resets, but nothing worked 100% . CM fixes some of my problems, but the only full-working custom rom is MIUI, that seems to be stable and very neat. Despite that I still prefer the custom rom (yes I'm probably insane), or a more traditional one like CM and I really would like to understand what kind of problems can generate such a massive amount of errors and reboots.
Could be a hardware problem? MIUI works fine, I can't explain why I still got problems with other ROMs.
Sorry for my bad English, thanks in advance
Without telling us the version of the stock rom you are using, we can never give you any answers.
I'm currently using
2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] #2 Kernel
Gingerbread.xwkj3 Build
That's not the original stock ROM, just one I found (here on xda I guess...)
Is there some kind of hardware-check I can run by myself, just for exclude manifacturing defects?
if you want to check to exclude hardware defects, u could go to the dialer and press *#0*# .. it will give u a list of tests which allows u to pinpoint any hardware defects ( if it exists) .... but if the problem is with the 3g, you could reflash your modem..
Initial problems were strictly connected with 3g's use, after a few hours of use i've noticed slowdowns using sms, then it started crashing and random rebooting. That's the same reason why I initially switched from original ROM to CM. I mean, I know that Samsung's ROM is not the best one at all, but I can't figure why it's so instable on my device.

As that the oldest stock rom try a newer one .

Updating: now my GSII works with latest stable Cyanogen, except for the 3g that's still not working. Should I reflash modem, as suggested by roophz?
That old kernel is known to cause random reboots.
Update to a newer stock rom.

Update 2: I switched from the old stock rom to the latest cyanogen stable version, then to a newer stock rom and then back to MIUI again. Still no life signals from 3g.
How is that possible?
Hi guys,
(sorry if my words aren't clear, please tell me if any of what I say isn't undestandabble)
Yesterday I installed FeraLabs ICS v2.2 ROM in my x10a. Great ROM, I fell in love with android 4 and cyanogemod, it was my first contact with both. But I had some problems using it, some apps not working, others freezing the entire system, can't send SMS etc. I know that probably most of these bugs already have fixes, the ROM is being developed etc, but I decided that it's not for me yet, this is my main phone and I need it rock solid for day to day use.
So I decided to try some GB rom. But there are a lot of ROMs out there, and I couldn't find a thread answering what's the best for my case, so I'm gonna ask fro suggestions. =D
Here's what I need:
- A stable ROM, fully compatible with my x10a;
- Based on cyanogemod;
- If possible, faster than stock 2.3 ROM;
- If possible, less power-consuming than stock 2.3 ROM, but it's the least important feature (got a 3500mAh battery);
- I personnally don't like the Sony UI improvemments and general bloatwares. I like google default apps and UI. Also used a LG p500 for a year, liked a lot the LG punctual customizations;
- It can have bugs about video recording, I don't use it much;
- It can't have bugs with 3g, wifi, calling and texting (hehehe);
So, what flavors should I try?
Thank you all. ;D
Donut HD 2.2 it's faster than stock and cm and works perfect with good battery life 2

Hi,
Thanks for helping.
Looking at the instructions in the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30999560&postcount=1167). Will it run OK with the feralabs kernel that is currently is installed in my system? Shouldn't I change hte kernel?
If yes, what kernel should I flash?
Hi guys,
I flashed doomkernel, booted to xRecovery, installed the doomkernel wifi module from zip, booted again to xRecovery, installed the donuthd, booted again, installed donuthd, booted to xRecovery and installed donuthd update.
It's really fast, I've never used and android this fast. I'm currently installing my apps, wanna see if it will keep great at night. =D
But I've seen a problem:
My sms messages aren't being delivered, just like happened with Feralabs ICS 2.2 rom. Anyone got this problem? Does this have some relation with my phone being a x10a (and now it's appearing in in my system settings as x10i) ?
Thanks in advance.
Hi again,
Today I cleaned up my phone and tried to install donutHD + doomkernel again. Everything worked ok, except sending and receiving SMS messages. So I flashed back 2.1 stock firmware and 2.3 (GB) stock firmware, and SMS sending/receiving worked fine again, in both versions.
Does anybody has any clue about what can be happening? When I installed donutHD (about 3 times), I was in 2.1 stock firmware, root/busybox/xrecovery from Flashtool (newest version). The same problem ocurred with the Feralabs ICS v2.2 ROM with feralabs kernel for ICS.
I also tried to flash the 2.3th kernel n5-1 (comming from 2.1 stock firmware), but it got frozen in SE screen, during boot. Even xrecovery couldn't open. =/
=========================== edited:
Problem solved: As observed I was upgrading from 2.1 stock ROM to DonutHD. Doing this upgrade coming from android 2.3 stock ROM, the SMS sending/receiving works like a charm. =D
