Anyone get their signal drop issues fixed by a root? - HTC EVO 3D

Hello,
Some people say they aren't experience the signal drop and garbled calls and that is very nice for them. Many of us though have returned our phones and experienced the same issue phone after phone on the EVO 3D.
Has anyone actually seen the problem go completely away with any of these roots? If so which one?
Thanks

Are you asking for a ROM that fixes the issue or one that has the issue? I'm using the stock rom - tried three evo 3d's so far - all have the signal drop issue. That is with stock everything - no additional apps. Also tried with stock everything and just the prl and software updates. Also tried with stock everything PRL updates and software updates and a bunch of software - they all dropped signal frequently.
Some people say they aren't experiencing it. I know 5 people with the EVO 3D and all experienced it. The tech at the Sprint store experienced it while checking out my first phone - gave me another one.
The CSR that I called at Sprint store said she'd heard alot about that issue and sent me an airave and a new phone.
The clerk at a store while I was out in Tucson said they got a lot of returns for the same issue and gave me my third EVO 3D - I had to keep trying because so many people here claimed they don't have the issue and that I must have a bad phone.
I spend about 2 hours on the phone each day and I'm starting to think the people who say they haven't experienced it just spend enough time on the phone to notice it.

NO, but my girlfriend got the root this morning and she said it made her nausea go away...go figure! If you can't find a good root to help you out, hit me up in a pm...some say i have the magic root!

What he's trying to tell you is that this is the development section and you shouldn't be posting new threads with questions here. Use QA or general.
In regards to your signal problem I've read various people experience it. I do not, and I assure you I'm not inexperienced with cell phones, signals, or issues with signals. In any event, you're likely about to get flamed unmercifully, so I suggest reposting this question in the QA section, or in general...you're not likely to get any answers better than the one I just gave you here.

probably another myth. I highly doubt getting s-off and unlocking the bootloader has anything to do better signal or call quality. Signals are probably due to lack or quality of service in a particular area.

is this rom aosp or sense based?

Thanks -I'm about 99.9% sure it isn't service in the area. I have an older HTC sprint phone that works just fine - no garbled calls, no dropped calls. Other people at the office are not dropping calls on their Sprint phones either.

Over the past year I have seen the Sprint signal in my area get worse and worse. I can still make calls, but I seem to always be around 2-3 bars where I used to be full. I had to get an airave at home and have to force roam at work.
This doesn't seem to be a phone issue because it started to happen to me on my EVO over a few months and was exactly the same on my Evo 3D and even my Palm Pre before that. I think Sprint is working on getting 4G up and is not keeping up on their need for cell towers.
I don't think you will find any ROM or Kernal that can fix bad reception when there is just no reception to fix.
Maybe if you wrap your phone in foil and wear an antenna on your hat...

I disagree. I have both the 3d and the photon and when side by side the photon always has a better signal. Once there is a fix for that I'll be a happy HTC camper again.

Need opinions - Evo 3D poor reception

I am coming from an Evo 4G. My apartment has always had sub par reception on sprint but now with the Evo 3D it is becoming irritating. In the same places I had 3G, I now am roaming. In a place where I had 2-3 4G bars, I have barely 1. I have tried updating my prl, my profile. One thing that I will note is that 4G on the 1 reported bar is about as good as the 3 bars on the old Evo. However 3G reception is definitely not very good overall.
My question - as I approach the one month I have had this phone, I wonder if I should:
A. Exchange the phone for another 3D. Has anyone heard of reception issues related to hardware? How has this device compared for everyone to the old Evo as far as reception? Do I have a dud?
B. Return it and get an original Evo.
C. Something else - call sprint ask for airwave or something like that.
I appreciate any advice anyone has. Thanks in advance.
My radio bars do show a tad lower, but I havent really noticed any issues.
I am willing to be some future PRL updates will help this.
My OG Evo was the same around launch time too
Had the same issue vs my old Eris on Verizon. Sprint reset the network which helped some, but I wound up manually changing the PRL to a USCellular one. Gained 4 bars.

so PRL updates meaning non-sprint developer created? so 2 votes in favor of waiting it out?

Have some friends with different carriers test your area, see which is stronger and use their PRL. That's what I did, told that to the Sprint rep while getting my MSL and he liked the idea (I did hint I would leave if I couldn't get a better signal).

Had the exact same issue and well I returned mine this last Sunday and got a new 3d and well it's better so far. Last week Sprint updated prl over the air and it worked for a minute and then it was back to roaming, dropping calls, battery draining like crazy, sensitive power button. I know it's only Monday but I have not dropped one call or went into roaming yet.

Verizon is strongest but if I take that PRL then I wont have Sprint 4G will I?
Also how would you load the other PRL?
Thank you!
I had the power button sensitivity issue - where the button presses momentarily caused the power menu to come up instead of going into sleep mode. So I took that phone into Sprint yesterday and they gave me a new phone, within 30 days. Any replacement should be a new phone and not a refurbished one within the initial 30 days of purchase.
Point being is that they new phone to me doesn't pick up a signal as well as the other Evo 3D that I had. We have an Airave at work and the old phone would have max bars and crystal clear, today first day with the new phone was at about 2 or so bars and the one phone call was very well lets just say not so crystal clear.
Recommend you take the phone back and ask them to test it. They can test the phone for you, and worst case swamp it out for you. Don't recommend PRL hacks since those tend to get people kicked out of Sprint due to excessive roaming.

Sprint 4G is on a different radio than data/voice, WiMax vs CDMA/1Rxx.
If you search for say "carrier name" PRL July 2011, you should be able to find a current file. Download the file, open QPST Service Programming, click the tab "Roam" and put the file location in "Preferred Roaming". I don't think you have a dud. Rather than bars, what are your actual speeds using something like Speed Test from the Market. I've had well....more than 3 of these E3D's, lol, and only 1 got half-ass decent speeds out of the box. With some re-provisioning and data reset methods in the General section I got all of them to set up correctly on the network.

VZW Support Question(s)

Can someone explain to me the customer service levels at Verizon? I've been dealing with 4G data connection problems since the beginning of June. I decide to finally create a support ticket on July 3rd and again on July 11th (the first ticket was marked completed).
Every time I contact support for an update, they proceed to go through the same basic troubleshooting steps even though I gave them my case number already. Then they go through the "We're sorry for your ...." script and politely tell me that the network team is looking into it and it will be 3 to 5 days.
So, where to I go from here? I've contacted 6 different CS reps because no one previously followed up with me. Who or what is higher up than the network team?
The short term solution today was activate my old Incredible....aarrgh! My frustration level is at it's peak. Do I have any other choices besides wait and cross my fingers?

Why can't you just use CDMA (3g) only on your Rezound? I have 4g turned off on my Rezound to save battery. Or are you having issues with both 3g and 4g?

I can use 3g, but that isn't why I bought the Rezound. My specific issue with 4g is that it drops completely and randomly when using various apps that have GPS enabled (Facebook, G+, Foursquare, etc...). Shouldn't 4g drop to 3g or 1x if 4g isn't available? Since I'm waiting for Verizon anyway, I'll change it to see if it helps.
The messed up part is that the exact same thing is happening to my wife's Rezound too. We bought them together a few months ago and for the 1st month everything worked great! Verizon confirmed that we live in a 4g area so that isn't the problem.
it is the software radio on the phone. You probably live in a low signal level area. The phone is constantly trying to decide if it should be in 3g or 4g. You should root and try different radios. Calling CS is about useless in my opinion
Mine does the same exact thing, it's definitely frustrating. It used to switch to 3g just fine, but it doesn't anymore. How is it a software issue if it worked fine before? I didn't change anything, I even did a factory reset.

My thunderbolt did this, my girlfriends rezound does it, and my rezound does it but not as often or I don't notice. I'm on viperRez s-on and 2.11 boot and I haven't noticed it however when my rezound was stock I noticed it.
I think it's an issue with Verizon. They sent me a new thunderbolt and sim card and I still had the same issue.

Its supposed to go from 4g to 3g if there is no 4g signal. I have no use for 4g as I'm on wifi 90% of the time so I turned it off. Since both your phones do it I would say its a signal issue from the tower and not a phone issue. Verizon's LTE network has had some issues and all the bugs aren't worked out yet. Personally I would rather use the Rezound in CDMA only mode than the Incredible, its just an all around better phone.
This happens to me too (I'm completely stock) and it's really bothering me now. I went in to Verizon and they have me a new SIM last weekend but that didn't fix it. I know it's the phone cuz I'll be at work, home, wherever i know for a fact i have 4g. Doesn't drop to 3g, just cuts in and out. and it happens randomly (or so I thought ) but GPS activity does likely because I JUST did a hard reset after calling VZW yesterday and had no problems until I opened up Google maps.
I keep holding out for ICS hoping that'll fix it.
Side note: when I asked the rep about a release date, she said she couldn't find anything on the rezound!
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Thanks for all the support and suggestions! For what it's worth, I'm completely stock and have done a factory reset twice. The thing that I haven't tried is to replace the SIM. I know that is a hit-or-miss solution, but at least I'll be able to cross that off my list when the CS rep calls back.....
The only other thing (I think) I can do is unlock/root/load an ICS ROM and hope that it fixes the 4g issue. I'm assuming a different radio is included with the ROM.
Thanks again...
I have a similar issue. My rezound is completely stock and worked fantastic when I first got it. I live in a high signal 4G area, and get 4-5 bars at all times. Since the beginning of June, my 4G just goes off randomly. Sometimes repeatedly to where its annoying and I put my phone back in my pocket. My phone has never switched from 4G to 3G, its just 4G 4-5 bars to nothing with 4-5 bars. I'd say if i'm using my phone, it happens 30+ times or more a day. Doesn't matter where in town I am. I've contacted verizon on several occasions (I know, a dead end road) and they told me there are no service interruptions in my area and they would call me back (of course, they didn't call me back). I consistently get 30-40Mbps on speedtest wherever I am. If i'm in the basement of my home in a certain spot, it drops to maybe 12-15Mbps.
Its been rather frustrating since I can barely use my phone when it acts up like this. Hoping the new OTA fixes the radios - then I'll probably dabble with CM9 (or 10 if its out by then). But until then, i'll just stay frustrated.

Thanks, but I'm currently speaking to tier 2. In the realm of support, I'm not doubting they have skills, but I'm curious as to where my problem goes next. The 5 tier 2 reps have gone through the basics each time I called. The key words are, " I called". I would assume that notes would be made so everyone was on the same page for support.
So they all have told me that they were waiting for the network guys to give them an update. I think that means I got put into a large queue and they will get to me when they get to me.

Update: This morning my Tier 2 rep said that the network team updated the trouble ticket. They have tested all of the towers in my area and everything looks good (of course). They also have added my ticket to a parent ticket that is being sent to HTC, because this is a known problem with some Rezound phones. Being pessimistic, I really think smoke is being blown up my **** but what am I going to do?! Pointing fingers usually goes nowhere.....
Per my Rep., my options are to wait for an HTC software update or they will replace the phones with another "like new" Rezound. they should really implement fastdormancy for 4G LTE because on 3G, theres a power state called CELL&URA_pch which doesn't use any data but it is able to keep a connection to the network.
I was also told there will be a software update to fix the 4G dropping issues and I was told that verizon is aware of the problem, and so is HTC. If its the same thing that was on the ICS leak, are the people running ICS leaks or roms based on these leaks having the same reception issues? I've been curious about this but rarely get on to post, i'm guilty of lurking.

Generally speaking this seems to very much be a software issue and unless it's truly a defective device I doubt getting a replacement would fix it. Here's what you do:
1. Flash the latest ICS RUU that leaked for the Rezound, NO you can't go back to the old firmware/software without a lot of work but it doesn't matter if you end up getting it replaced anways
2. Set up everything again and see how it goes
3. If you still have an issue, get the replacement
IF that doesn't fix the issue, your not unlocked, your not S-OFF, so your warranty still stands. It's not like your "NEW" device was doing very well anyways so I wouldn't let a replacement device bother you. I didn't read this whole thread but hopefully I'm not the first person to re-iterate this- "NEW" is just a matter of documentation and the fact that a product is new doesn't mean it's better or will work better than a refurbished device. I personally have had several refurbished devices over the years that worked just fine...much better then the new ones did.

Why all the complaints ? This is a lot to do with user error

I'm stunned at the constant complaints... I believe half of.. everyones issues are due to screwin around and f"n up their phones ,not reading stickies ,,rules , not.knowing...compatibility
The other half is probably defective devices NOT all of us have issues I've had none
The 122.651.3 has bettered the performance no WiFi 3g drop
Great battery from day 1 anyways !!

I really haven't tinkered with much of anything on my phone and I find the most recent OTA to be MUCH MUCH buggier than the previous version. Before the update I never had Sense crash or any other programs crash. Now they happen once or twice a week (sometimes several in a day). Add that to the fact that I am not S-OFF and I have a loathing hatred for this most recent update.

Sorry, but I'm not convinced that my text, roaming and dropped call issues are solely due to the upgrade. You guys can keep screaming that all you want. And I'm not saying that there aren't instances where that's the case. My wife has a shift and isn't experiencing these issues. I've also read about other evo owners with two phones or other sprint phones in their household -- none of which are displaying the same problems.
Again, I'm not saying the network upgrade isn't causing any issues, but it's a bit aggravating to see people post that in every thread containing an issue that can even remotely be attributed to the upgrade like it's gospel.

If you're complaining about SMS issues, missed calls, dropped calls, ect...
Go get your radio tested. It takes 30 minutes at a sprint store. You don't even have to unroot it. Hell, tell them its rooted so they don't mess with the software.
I may try bringing it in tomorrow.

I called up sprint customer service and they were able to refresh it and after rebooting, my phone is able to send and receive text. Can't say it was the phone's fault, so so far this phone has served me well:fingers-crossed:
Yep, pretty odd that my network problems started the same day I bought this phone. Op, Your is working great. Good for you but please don't treat the rest of us as retards. This is my 6th android device. Only one of them wasn't on sprint network. That's only phones I didn't include tablets laying around the house. Nook colors and kfs for the kids and wife.

For those not aware...the EVO LTe is set up out of the box to work on LTE and Enhanced CDMA (for lack of better term/knowledge) Also know as Network Vision, or the upgrades.
In cases where an older phone connects and the EVO LTE does, I have confirmed the EVO LTE is connecting to a network type called ehrpd. This network is not yet active in most cities. The older device confirmed to be connected to CDMA and receiving normal 3g.
This is the reasoning behind changing the network mode to cdma only, as many of us have seen that it forces the phone on to CDMA and not ehrpd.
I hhonestly have no idea what I am doing, but this is what I have found in my hours of testing side by side with older devices. From what I can tell every LTE device Sprint carries has this issue, but the other devices appear to lack the ability to switch.
There are also other issues that can contribute to texts and data.
This theory also works in reverse. If I am in an LTE area and on cdma only data and texts are wonky and I have to switch back.
Moral of the story...handoff could be seriously jacked up. I remember Verizon and ATT having similar issues during buildout. You would think someone had figured it out by now.

Dudes Sprint is upgrading 38000 towers its common sense that your going to have some connection issues and aside from that people living in high populated areas if one of the towers goes down for the upgrade the other ones are going to have way more traffic hence your problems......... I'm pretty sure that's right? And also if you if you can make calls and not receive calls or text but still have data your on data only o. O

A lot of the data/sms/call signal issues can be attributed to the current state of network upgrades, though it's obviously impossible to say 100%. In my experience, the network-related things have worked fine from day 1 (July 19th). That said, I have noticed actual system bugs. For example there was a time when I was using Talk (I hardly ever SMS anymore, Talk is way better IMO) and the text in the app became just a jumbled mess of pixels. Took a reboot to fix but it was still weird. And a friend of mine who got his Evo LTE a couple of weeks before me, his phone just started spontaneously overheating all of a sudden yesterday. We suspect a rogue app getting stuck in a loop, but still that's not a good sign; it should have been caught by the OS and at least thrown up a message to kill the offending application. Again, a reboot fixed it but I'm not really keen on that being an actual solution as opposed to a temporary workaround.

This makes the most sense of anything I've ever heard. If sprint would have said cdma2 or something, I wouldn't have had the opinion I did in yesterday's post.

If you want to run your own tests, I use network signal info, open signal maps and an app called "network" to find all of this.
I forward everything I find up the chain of command at Sprint but not sure where it goes or what comes out of it

Constant Dropped Calls, Help!

I've had my Evo LTE since launch, and have had call issues since the beginning. I came from the OG Evo, and knew Sprint had bad coverage in some areas around me; but this has been much much worse. I would say 4 out 5 calls drop immediately upon connection. I will have half or more signal when I call and as soon as it connects it drops off and I look and there are 0 bars. Oh, I'm also not in a town which has the updated network/LTE. I had done the HTC Unlock immediately, so I was nervous about trying to take my phone back. But thanks to this amazing guide, I can get it back to stock. Has anyone else had issues like this fixed by getting a new phone?
My main question is who do I take it back to? I have the BB Black Tie insurance, so I was thinking that would be easiest/quickest exchange. But I wasn't sure how they would react since there is nothing visibly wrong with the phone. And I'm sure as soon as I get in Best Buy it will work flawlessly .
are you in an area that is currently undergoing Network vision updates? In my area (Chicago suburbs), sprint acknowledged that the NV upgrades were causing problems.
I constantly get "no data connection" when I have 3 bars (not roaming) :/

I have not. I'm assuming it's okay to do this running S-Off and custom Rom (CM10)?
I have also noticed terrible 3G speeds, much much worse than my OG Evo.

I'm in north okc and have the exact same issue. I've been in numerous lengthy phone calls with sprint about this and I'm on my second phone to no avail. My girls phone is the same. This phone does not like the okc area whatsoever. I remember my 3d was the same. I am currently at the point of leaving sprint for this. I love this phone but its driving me crazy. And let's not get into peak hours data drop.... I'm so frustrated with sprint right now.

Well, I think I'm going to go back full stock tomorrow and run it by a Sprint repair store. Guys in IRC channel recommended I have them check my radios. I work with a guy who has a Samsung on Sprint and doesn't have great signal, but better than mine! I'm so torn right now, I know if i switched to Verizon I'd have great LTE signal all over town, but I wanted to support Sprint and see if they could fix their network. Now I'm regretting it but stuck in contract. But then again if I were to switch, there aren't really any phones I'm interested in on Verizon...
I love this phone but, I am.pissed and tired of repair stores, and sprint technical, and supervisors, and credits. They can see that most of my disconnects are device related and still won't switch me to another device or something. I really don't even want to switch. But, I totally believe its network being upgraded and this device is designed for something other than what's offered in my area.

Send it in to htc and have them fix it. They warranty it for a year.
I had one that dropped calls but my second one is perfect.
Well, I'm going to try to get to the Sprint store later this afternoon. Will update here with result. If it's just their **** network, think they might let me out of contract if I ***** enough? If they do, then where do I go? I freaking love this phone, but if it can't make phone calls I can't keep it...
--Update--
I went to a Sprint store on Saturday to see what they said. As soon as I mentioned dropped calls and crappy speeds he started apologizing. Evidently they have begun the network update in Oklahoma, which means that a lot of towers are down or not at normal capacity. He said this has been going on most of the year and that the network should be back at normal capacity by the end of the year. He also said he had heard LTE by June-July of 2013, but was just a rumor. He reset my profile and PRL and said it might help. I'm going to stick it out as of now and hope they can produce a solid LTE network. I do really love Sprint and their fight for unlimited data, just hope they keep it up.
Dropped Calls
I, too, have had terrible luck with calls dropping with this phone. I was on the OG EVO and did not have these issues at all. From looking at this site s4gru.com I do not believe that my area (Indy) should be under any network updating as of yet. However, it also looks like Oklahoma should not be, either - so maybe they started early
In the end...my old EVO did not have issues up to the day I upgraded, and the new EVO has had issues since day 1. I do not believe this is a network issue, but more of a hardware/radio/phone design issue. I hoped the newest updates (including radio) would help, but I am still dropping calls way too often.

Slow Mobile Data

Hey all,
A few weeks ago, I switched from MeanBean to Jelly-Bam ROM. At the time, I thought this was a Jelly-Bam issue, but I'm pretty sure it's not now. When I switched ROMs, I noticed that my data was slow. I work in Baltimore County, MD and lost my 4G signal. I have occasionally seen 4G at home since I noticed this issue, but it's rare. I typically only get 3G and often it's less than 1MB/s. I tried switching back to MeanBean and that didn't help (I had updated the radio before switching back, I would think that would only help). I have updated my radio (currently running 1.12.11.1210) and that hasn't helped. What made me think it's not the ROM is that my wife has a stock Evo 4G LTE and she also has slow data speeds. BUT, my brother has an S3, also on Sprint and in the same town and he's getting 4G fine. I do have my have my Network Mode set to LTE/CDMA (actually on Jelly-Bam it's LTE/CMDA/EvDo). I'm running Jelly Bam 7.8.0 (CyanogenMod version 10.1.0-RC2-jewel). Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions as to what could be the problem with my phone. If I can provide more information, let me know and I'll get it for you.
Thanks so much in advance.
Baltimore and supporting areas are still going thru LTE upgrades, it's still on-off for some areas. Annapolis is lit 100% as far as I can tell.

Is your evidence of the S3 pulling in 4G while your device does not anecdotal or have you performed a side-by-side comparison? The answer to this will help us narrow down your problem.

Unless things have gone backwards, I don't think that is the case. I used go get 4G in Baltimore. I've seen as high as 25MB/sec, maybe even higher. Now I don't see 4G ever down here. (I've seen it a few times at my home in York County, PA since this issue, but it doesn't last long and the fastest I've seen is maybe 5MB/sec. But most times its 3G and less than 1MB/sec.)

My evidence is based on my seeing absolutely no 4G at the time (I've seen a few few times briefly as noted in the post above.), while my brother who is less than 1 mile away see's great 4G (faster than his home wifi so over 15 MB/s). I have consistently had terrible speeds around town while he consistently has good speeds. No, we have not stood side by side and done a test, but I know how my signals used to be and how they should be and I'm nowhere near that.
I was actually near the Key Bridge last night and where I usually get LTE or at least have in the past, I got solid 3G, I tried airplane method and reboot, switching from CDMA back to LTE to no avail. Soon as I got back into Pasadena the LTE was solid. I never was sure about the differences between the Samsund devices vs. HTC but for me, the signal is sporadic which in the past has been due to Sprint upgrades. Hope it gets better and check out the SG4RU site for specific information about your area. Thru have a ton of info that will let you aware of the work and or upgrades in your specific area in Baltimore.

It just doesn't make sense to me that Sprint reception would decrease by so much and (as far as I can tell) completely lose 4G coverage at my work and mostly lose it at my home at the same time, while my brother continues to receive great service on his S3. I just don't see how that could happen.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Any ideas what could be wrong with my phone? Anything else I can update? Any settings for me to check that I might have missed? (I feel like I've check them all, but I'm up for anything at this point.)
Thanks in advance. This is driving me nuts.

I'd like to throw my own recent experience in here.
My wife has the OG Evo. I have the Evo LTE. While I do not get LTE in this area, I still get 3G coverage. The other day, out of the blue, my wife's 3G quit working and she has next to no service while I have solid coverage, and yes this is side by side.
Call me crazy right now because if what I am about to say, but I have this inkling of a feeling that Sprint is directly behind her almost completely losing signal in an area where 3 towers surround us to attempt to get one of us to call in, complain, and get coerced into an upgrade (she's due for one as of June 1st, go figure right?
I've noticed this happen whenever I was due for upgrades on my older phones too such as the Hero, Moment, etc... if I could pinpoint what they're doing, if they're doing anything, they'd be in some majorly serious ish.
So, I called Sprint and they walked me through #72786# update on my wife's phone. Apparently both of our phones were "off the network". We went through it for my wife's phone and it put it back on the network, whatever that means, but it didn't improve her service. They're now telling me our options are to take it to the nearest Sprint store with a repair center (the closest 2 are about an hour away each) or pay the shipping to return it to HTC.
They told me I could do the #72786# update on my phone and that it would not get rid of my root. Does anyone know this to be true? I'd like to try it on mine since they say it also is not "on the network". Because it does a firmware update, I wanted to check to see if that would interfere with the root access on my phone or my ability to gain root again, should I ever get rid of root.
Which brings me to my next question, if the above is safe for my rooted phone, I try it, and it does not work. How do I go about returning my phone to it's stock configuration? I've read a little about RUU, but haven't been able to figure out enough of it or where to get the RUU to feel comfortable doing it yet. If I do an RUU, will I be able to get my root (and s-off) rights back on my phone? How about if they try to bring my phone completely up-to-date? Is there a way to root currently up-to-date phones?
I know I've packed a lot of info and questions in there, but I would really appreciate any help and answers that people can give me. Thanks so much!!

No, she is not rooted. So for now, I figured I'd start with trying this on my phone. Unfortunately, the MSL reader app wasn't able to read it. I'm actually in an old version of my phone. I'm going to install my last backup and work from that since I'm somewhat hopeful this will fix my problem. I might as well do it from my latest ROM. I'll have that up in 10 minutes or less and I guess I'll try to work through your instructions...
If it works on my phone, I guess I'll go through it with my wife's then. I have everything important backed up on mine. I'll have to check hers real quick to make sure she doesn't have any recent pictures, but I think those should be on Dropbox. I assume it will tell me before I might have to do that so I'll know to double-check everything if it comes to that.
Sorry if I've asked any questions that are explained in the instructions...I just wanted to reply and now I'll continue reading through them.
Hard reset on your phone will wipe everything in data/app as well as your internal sd. Your external will be fine as well as your wife's external however she will lose all apps, sms, mms, call logs, bookmarks via stock app, as well as any system settings.

Yeah, I didn't dial. But when I hit the last #, what I entered before goes away and nothing happens.
Will these changes stick through a new ROM update? I guess I'll try them on the last stock save I have and then try to restore my MeanBean ROM (the last ROM I had that worked with 4G...Jelly-BAM seems to be what broke it.).
