[Q] Applications menu query? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a strange question regarding the Application Panes (the ones when you see after pressing the Applications button on the home screen).
Every so otfen my App's on my Application panes move pages.
I have my Application panes set up so that I have a collection of apps on each of the panes, so sports apps on one Apps pane, System Apps on a system pane, shopping Apps on a shopping pane and so on.
But I have about 7-10 apps that jump panes, if I move them back to where I want them they will jump back again after a few hours?
Not sure if anyone else has come across this..?
I know it sounds anal, but it is handy to have the apps grouped together of their own pane..
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance....

Program folder and shortcut questions...

Being relatively new to Windows Mobile (long time Palm user), I'm trying to come to grips with some of the quirks of this platform.
I would like to group my shortcuts into logical areas such as applications, utilities, media, etc and was able to create folders and move the shortcut link files into those folders. So far so good.
However when I went into some of these folders by accessing the Programs folder, I was faced with a huge delay before all the icons showed up on screen. I also ran into a problem when uninstalling some programs only to find they left the shortcut behind (because it was not in the expected location I assume). I ended up undoing all I had done and now my shortcuts appear quickly again, but of course there are now a large number of them all in the Programs folder which is what I was trying to avoid.
How do people normally deal with the fact that every program installs a shortcut in the default Programs folder and you end up with an unwieldy number of shortcuts in one place?
I've not had an issue with this, as if the icons are in the programs folder there is sufficiant cache for this to be scrolled relatively quickly.
The last 4-6 applications are available on the quick launch area of start menu anyway...
May I suggestion something like SPB Pocket Plus or some other of SPBs finest apps if you wish to sort your icons out... you can have them on the deskop then for faster access...

SOLVED: How to Sort Apps List Alphabetically?

Hey there all,
Just got my SGS3 in the mail, and it's my first Samsung device. How do I go about sorting the apps list (when I tap "Apps" from the Homescreen) alphabetically? It just seems to lump them up in installation order with preinstalled "system" apps in the first page or two and all of my stuff, jumbled up, in the next 5 or 6 pages. They were all installed automatically by the Market when I added my Google account, seemingly in random order, and the sorting is based on that random order.
I do see the ability to "Edit" the apps list and drag them around, but it would be crazy to do this sorting manually with 50+ apps!

Solved on IRC: While viewing the App List/App Drawer, tap menu, then View Type. Alphabetical sort is there, along with other options.

How to move icons / applications to home screen?

I installed several applications (Viber, Skype etc.) and their icons (or these applications) were placed on "second" screen. I tried several ways and was unable to move any icon / application to my home screen. The phone displays "can't move" and the icon is automatically returned to "second" screen. It seems the home screen layout is somehow locked but I there is not any "home screen" menu in settings to unlock it. My MIUI version is MIUI Global 8.1 Stable 8.1.4.0 (MHOMIDI), Android is 6.0.1 MMB29M. Can somebody please advise whether it is, in general, possible to move icons / applications to the home screen and, if so, how to do that.
I didn't try but I think you should made different folder and place them in the folder ?

Click to collapse
Thanks onukomer. While trying various options I got a message "no more room on this home screen". So, I removed two default applications from the home screen and was then able to move two my applications from the second to the home screen. However I was able to move only such applications which have "add shortcuts to home screen" in their settings, for instance WhatsApp. But Viber does not have "add shortcuts to home screen" YES / NO in its permissions menu. Why Viber and several other of my applications do not allow switch that "shortcuts to home screen" permission ON / OFF? They even do not have that in their settings... Why? Any ideas?
Friend, i think that's apps not have any other shortcut like whatsapps "whatsapp video shortcut" all is mine thinking. Did you try to use a different launcher? Or do you use any weather or clock widget? That's occupies too much area of the home screen
Yes, you are absolutely right - my problem was that there was no enough space on my home screen, most probably due to the clock. Once I started to free up the space by removing unnecessary icons I was able to move icons from my second to the home screen without any problems. Thank you very much for your assistance

Mod to set different functions to swipe left and right on home screen

Hello fellow Android users.
I've always been obsessed with customizing the functionality of my devices to make it really practical to use.
I've been playing with the settings of the Xiaomi Redmi 9 for a week now and everything is set to perfection except one thing which is not available in the default settings but would be incredibly convenient, not only for me but for many people too.
I set all the apps I use in one single home screen (not multiple pages). The ones that don't fit there are all in one folder and that uses up only one button slot.
Since I don't have multiple pages for the apps, the swipe left and swipe right functions are available for other useful things, I'd like to set that up to be shortcuts to apps that I use a lot, like whatsapp and gmail. This would also free 2 slots in my home screen.
I suspect there's a way to do it, just don't know how and have tried several google searches like "how to assign left and right swipe functions on android home screen" or "how to customize left and right swipe on android home screen" and many other similar combinations of words. Found nothing.
Does anyone know if there's an app or a mod that allows you that level of customization? I'm a video editor and I'm not very educated in programing android apps or anything similar.
Hope someone can give me a hint. Thanks a lot in advance. Greetings from Barcelona, where many of us are locked down and unemployed :cyclops:

apps organization

Hi, got a stupid question, coming from Huawei or One + there was never a problem with app orgnisation.
Situation 400 Apps New installation (Pixel, Sony etc.)
Huawei, Samsung. All apps can be in the drawer organized or the apps are on the Start screen and you can drag and drop them together
The result is all apps as soon they in a Folder are gone from the Start screen (or drawer)
Pixel, sony, etc. the problem is
drag from the drawer 1 5 or 10 apps into a folder on the start screen is easy, but after doing so and xxx apps later nonbody knows which app is organized in a folder.
Is there any feature to help? I do not want another Launcher. It should be possible to bring ALL apps from the drawer to the Start screen which creates probably 20 screen, but from there i can drag them together and whats gone is gone and i know all are in the right place.
Thanks for any help
