Need your opinion - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the best Rooted GB rom on the site that still has Sense?
Im looking for the most stable sense based ROM that is GB.
Any suggestions???

My opinion is its not on XDA. I think there's only 1 on XDA that even uses the new base; synergy. But I never recommend nightlies to a noob.

I've been using Liquid Gingersense 1.4 and it is very stable with the mr2.5 radio. On my 3rd week, my phone has never been smoother.

Then what do you suggest and where can it be found?

Chingy has 2 gingerbread ROMs built on the newest base at theMikMik.com. BAMF is good too, but not terribly current at the moment. They're working on it though.

Thank you for your suggestion

No prob. Keep an open mind though. Sometimes the newest isn't the best for what you're needs.

Know too that all have issues so please do yourself a favor and read the OP, and read through the forums. Don't pick a ROM like you pick your girlfriends. Use the other head.
Btw, I'm currently running Gingeritis 3d v1 beta VII

It seems like Gingeritis is the choice of many... Do you feel it is the most stable and still allows to make phone calls and such?

Monolithth3ory is a good stable sense roms. And plenty of support

Also depends on if you want Sense 2.1/3/or a Hybrid.
I've been running M0N0LITHTH3ORY for a couple days and it's pretty solid
EDIT: Just saw the post by sporty, he's right and DroidTh3ory has a good reputation of ironing out problems with his roms.

Gingeritis3D beta 6, not 7, ziggys kernel and chingys new radio have been a perfect trifecta for me with power, stability, and batt life.

I have only used Sense 2.1, so I don't know if I am missing out on anything with Sense 3.0. But newer is better right? Right now I am in the process of trying out a few. All seem to have some quirks...
I almost feel like I would be happiest with a plain full GB release from verizon with root access so I can remove the Crap Ware.
But that does not seem to be coming any time soon.

Agreed! Note: Gingeritis didn't work for me, I got frequent reboots on my phone.
I'm running Synergy R179, it seems to have no problems on my phone.

One of the features of Sense 3.0..there are many more. It's well worth it. Check it out via Synergy. Link below.

Thanks everyone for your assistance and suggestions.
In the end I have decided to go with BAMF 3.0 R4.9 and Radio 6.27
It seems to be running very smoothly and has the features that I want. It will take a few days to see if any bugs pop up & how the battery life is.
But so far AOK.

The hybrid sense is really good stuff, you cant use ALL of the widgets and whatnot, but you get all of the important ones.

I ran it for a while, runs great, iirc everything works, but there was A LOT missing in the finishing touches/polish/theme etc. So I'm back to my kanged mix of deck/synergy/warm/neon/stock/etc.
That rom almost seems taboo at this point. I have been trying to figure out how to get access to it. Can anyone tell me how to get in on the nightly's?

You've got to set up svn in order to use myn's ROM. Or you did about a week ago, so I assume you still do. Just go in the development section on here and look at Liquids guide to setting up svn and follow it but with myn's Google.code instead of syngergy.

running myn's currently.. well an extremely modded version of myn's.. smooth as silk.. totally smooth, for being alpha, its the balls.. if you go to that link provided above, in some of the posts paulg1981 posts a link to his server with the lastest, so you dont have to have svn.. i totally reccomend trying it (i know duce said it needed some polish, but its sweet)..
SVN look intemediating and I have been avoiding it. I thought there would be a easier option. I am sure it is limiting the amount of people using the beta
got a link with your modded version? whats diff?

OP,
Yes, CM7 is worth it IMO. if you have ran CM7 in another phone, youll be even more impressed with it on the photon. It almost responds faster then my brain does when. milliseconds to open PDf files and apps.
Battery life, yes i do see a GREAT improvement. Joker just released a kernel work for CM7 and will be making further tweaks for Uv that should make it even better! even when i ran it on my EVO, battery life jumped. Yes the photon is already amazing batt life, but CM7 cleans up alota stuff that is really crap in your phone. Im not afraid to travel wo a charger running CM7. on the evo, i would leave for the weekend wo a plug, and this last weekend i did the same thing with running CM7 on my photon.
least try it if you are ok without 4G and share your experience. CM7 is a streamline platform that is PACKED full of goodies. It cleans up your phone and will make it smooth and snappy. It will be a whole new BEAST!
Im glad cybik is with the photon community. his CM7 build is what i have been dreaming for since the day i threw my EVO to the grown.
Honestly, i could careless about ICS with now having CM7. Once team CM builds CM9, if that is ported over then sure as hell ill flash it, but im not a kid waiting for santa now. CM7 has me HAPPY!
disregard post please
^.^ won't work.
CM7 with the new joker kernel works great! It's fast with good battery life. I have no 4G near me (even thought I live in the most densely populated state in the country) so I don't miss it due to unlocking.
do you know if mms and youtube are fixed? and what about being able to use the ext-sd without having to go into CM settings?

Just rooted my Vibrant, what's the best rom to get?

Hello! I'm new to the rooting thing and finally rooted my Vibrant last night. I'm really eager to get a new rom running and wanted to know what the best one out there is? I'm so over Eclair.
this is gonna be funnnnn
me smell troll?
Huh? I'm not a troll.
"best" is all in the eye of the beholder, i myself am not a big fan of TW roms, while others will swear by them 24/7
so as a first time flasher, go with something easy try out a 2.2.1 rom, Bionix or Trigger. once you get more comfortable try something a little more complicated MIUI/CM7 (personally i'll swear by Miui any day of the week, best rom in all categories in my opinion)
if you wanna jump on the 4.0 band wagon grab Neo's ICS 4.0 passion. very clean stable and shiny. only downside atm is no video recording.
just make sure you read all the OP's and flash accordingly bricking your phone is near impossible but it's always a hassle to have to odin back to jfd and start over.
Awesome! Thank you so much!
For a 2.2.1 rom I would do Bi-Winning over Bionix Frost. But for 2.2 I would definitely start with Bionix 1.3.1 or Nextgen.
Miui only lasted a week on my phone before Google framework started its Marathon of FC's. It is pretty, but I like a app drawer more.

You definitely want a Toxic ROM. Nothing comes close to the batterylife. Try Toxics D9, there is a RC3 version out right now, you wont regret it, its easy to flash and ridiculously stable.

I like ICS Passion, but since it's still in beta I would not recomment this rom for a first timer. (That's the reason why I don't currently use it).
I like MIUI, because it's really easy to change the theme of the rom.
Be warned that you won't get the battery life you are used to. With that said you can flash a 2.2 rom (bionix, bi winning, etc) and pretty much get a batterylife that will last you the whole day, untill you go to sleep. Hope that helped

My 2 cents... I've tried a bunch of ROMs and by far the most stable, easiest to update, most customizable, most fun to tinker with has got to be MIUI. It honestly wins on all counts for me. Their launcher gives you the ability to customize all parts of the UI. you will have a ton of fun!

I'd say Bionix 1.3.1 or 1.3.2 http://sourceforge.net/projects/bionix-v/files/,
Zendroid 2.1.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079517
or Team Toxic D9rc3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360502,all of which are 2.2 Froyo roms and very solid.
That isn't to dismiss any of the many roms available, but just my picks for starters.
We Vibrant owners are very lucky to have the tremendous community of developers, that gives us the opportunity to mod and customize are phones and I'm really grateful to all.

I dont know why it always happened. I would format system, data, datadata, cache, dalvik, factory reset and then flash. I would restore my apps via MIUI Backup, it would last 5 days about and then force close constantly. I have no clue why it always happened.
I'm about done with Gingerbread anyway, these ICS roms are looking better and better by the day. Too bad CM quit Vibrant, 911 works on ICS. Wish they'd give it a second chance.
About time you rooted. I always liked the bionix stuff from team whiskey. CM never really agreed with my vibrant as well as my older phones. But these posters are right, start with some of the easier stuff and get familiar with Odin. ICS passion is very nice IMO. Enjoy as your old phone is going to become brand new for you.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
I've tried lots of different ROMS and bounced between them. I would have to agree with others that MIUI is the most customizable and in my opinion is very sleek. Cyanogen is always solid. Right now I'm running ICS Passion v8 and have been hooked since v4 due to the fun ICS tweaks. Just a matter of taste.

Stock ICS vs another ROM

What is better? Stock ICS (rooted of course), or sticking with another ROM?
I assume to get the stock ICS I would have to relock boot loader and go back to gingerbread?

A lot of this depends on personal preference, which changes with the desire to get your flashing fix. For me, I'm liking the sense 4 ICS by Newt.
I see that you are s-off and running sebastian's kernel? If so, just flash Scotts CleanRom 4.5 that is about a stock as you can get. Also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703732 this appears to be pure stock, rooted ICS.
Yeah, I'm just getting bored because all of the ICS roms are very basic and boring.
try out a sense 4 rom..nils just "released" his in the sense 4 QA thread, stating bluetooth doesn't work.
or if you wanna stay stock, def do conrom. it rocks.
I'm gonna go for one of nils official rooms, with working Bluetooth.
I can't live without Bluetooth.
Can someone give me some background information on the rezound ICS situation. I thought ICS 4.0 was not yet released for the rezound. Where did we get the port from? Its amazing that the port is 100% stable with all aspects working.
I'm loving the rezound community thus far
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
ICS with Sense 4.0 is ported from the Incredible 4G. It doesn't appear HTC/Verizon plans to release ICS/Sense 4.0 for the Rezound, all of the leaks are based on Sense 3.6.
The Sense 4.0 ports are very stable, there's some very minor issues here and there but they can be used as a daily driver. I'd recommend One XXX or Nils's rom, both make solid offerings.
Did you mean to say that ICS is not releasing for rezound. When I picked up rezound a couple days ago he mentioned 4.0 was to be released this month. Although after a quick Google search there was talk about it being released late may early June.

What he means is, ICS will eventually be released officially for the Rezound, but it will be Sense 3.6, not Sense 4.0.

What's the feedback like with this upgrade? Is it worth it?
One last question regarding s off. Currently the only way to obtain s off is thru the wire trick - and with s off you will benifit with the ability to flash your own kernel.. please correct me if I'm wrong

I can't either. Nil's ICS 3.6 Sense works flawlessly. There is a mod that let's you make / theme it more blue or more red, if you want a different look.

JB AKOP

Hey there Xda, I wanted to find some details on the recent version of JB AOKP that has been floating around the net. I have seen several sites that give a halfa**ed tutorial on how to update, but no credit as to who was responsible for the build. Out of curiosity I tried it. The rom is definitely stable and Data & WIFI are both stable too. Unfortunately after flashing gapps there is no initial set up & the play store only serves up a server error. Even more unfortunate is the fact that there wasn't even a file browser built in so unless you push any apk's via adb sideloading is out. So if any one knows any thing about this please chime in here. This rom shows serious promise and is a good hint of what is to come.

Good to know, thanks. The following sites I mentioned earlier were claiming 4.1.1 are:
http://newsadvices.com/install-android-4-1-1-jelly-bean-aokp-on-htc-thunderbolt/
http://technologygoogle.com/htc-thunderbolt-to-install-aokp-jelly-bean-4-1-1-firmware-review/
http://www.android.gs/update-htc-thunderbolt-to-aokp-jelly-bean/
None of these were development sites, so I was skeptical, to say the least. Even so I was like Holy S***JB on the TB F***ing awsome! at least now we know. If any one knows who published these story's they should let them know there is misinformation included in all three as they are ICS not JB.
To confirm and give where credit where it is due, this is chrootz work right?

Chrootz fixed wifi. PROTEKK built the ROM.
wampuscat is right, ProTekk built the ROM and I just fixed the wifi module driver for kernel.
ProTekk mentioned he is waiting for ICS ota from HTC and he can start working on aokp for TBolt.
All the links, They talking about the AOKP made by SPJester and it's misinformed. It supposed telling everyone the Liquid and SPJester made AOSP ICS for TBolt not
the AOKP jb. AOKP build is belong to ProTekk's build made from Milestone 6 JellyBean.

Well, then mystery solved. Using the ics gapps the rom is now rocking my 'Bolt. Many thanks to chrootz for his wifi fix and to Protek for his dedication to the thunderbolt. I also would like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to team bamf for their work on the ICS leak, liquid and spjester for making ics aosp happen, and between them breathing new life into this phone. We had good things from protek back in the cm7 days, and now with the ics action he has out done him self. His work with jb will be most impressive. I'm sure I speak for all the aosp fans out there when I say the thunderbolt wouldn't be half the device it is today with out him and his merry team of kangers.

Nice screen shot, what ROM is it? All the links in the posts above yours are Android 4.0.1.

Seems to be working, at least partially?
From what I understand, protekk is trying to get out a jb version of liquids kernel. He is a pretty consistent dev so I would expect he'll get it out soon. Props to him.
Yes, Jelly bean for mecha working except camera and video recording aren't working. Much smooth and better than ICS build.

Got a link? I'd like to try it, I can live w/o camera or video.
How's the battery life?
I too could care less about the camera.

Agreed, I'd be willing to let this JB rom stretch it's legs on my phone with no working camera.
