I added a corporate account (just for syncing the calendar, not corp email) last week and ever since "Email" shows up as using about 15% of the battery. It was never on the list before as I never used any Email accounts. I wud just use the native Gmail app.
When adding the corporate email account, I put the settings as how often to check "Never" and Number of days to sync to "One" (just to be safe). And yet the Email service is running and using up battery. This is on my Nexus S 4G running Cyanogen Mod 7 (Gingerbread).
Any advice on how to stop this service permanently or what settings to change so it does not check for email (with my corp account am pretty sure).

Anyone else having problems getting the native HTC email to sync correctly? I have an Exchange account and 3 IMAP accounts and the IMAP accounts will not sync on a regular basis. I loaded up Enhanced Email and it works fine.
I checked as many setting as I could and all appears to be set correctly: wireless networks all set to never sleep, background data and auto-sync both checked
I can keep using Enhanced Email but it's aggravating that I can't get the HTC app to work correctly.
Anyone have any ideas?
I figured it out. When I first got the phone and went through the setup I got a 504 gateway error. I also got there 504 gateway error when initially trying to set up my email accounts. Called customer service and they said to skip out of the setup and do everything manually. She said there was a glitch in the software and that the Gmail and Yahoo account setups didn't work and that all accounts needed to be set up through the IMAP process. Needless to say this is what was causing my problem.
To correct the email sync issue I deleted all of my accounts and set them up through the Gmail and Yahoo account set up process and all appears to be working now.
I am having the same problem so I just tried this option of setting up my yahoo accounts through the set up process. It does appear to receive email much faster but there are some downsides.
My Yahoo inbox (on the website) and the inbox on my Rezound are not completely synced now. The app has the option of downloading up to 30 days of email. Mail older than 30 days doesn't show up on the phone even if it's in your inbox on the website. Conversely, email that I deleted or moved from my inbox some time ago has now magically reappeared on my phone.
Another problem is that my mail folders that I set up on the website do not appear on the Rezound mail app anymore.
Seems the negatives are too numerous to have better syncing. I'm switching back to the manual setup as all the problems I mentioned above are not there and I'll just put up with poor syncing for now.
Hello,
Currently we have our work phones set up for a corporate email and all the contacts with it to however what if i want to add a contact that will not sync to my corporate account. On my phone I can add a contact to corporate or phone only, not sync however my co-worker does not have "phone only" option. Why is that? Both of our phones were set up at the same time.
Right, so there is the well known Exchange service draing the battery issue with the i9100. I'm on LP7 stock rooted on the 3 network, and this is driving me insane.
I reset my phone to fix my battery problems, and narrowed it down to the Exchange/Active Sync stuff.
The query I have is this:
When i set up my [email protected] account in the samsung email app (my junk email address), it sets up as a straightforward, non-exchange email account.
When i set up my [email protected] address (my main email), it forces me to put it in as an exchange service account, which I don't want as it causes the battery issues.
Any advice? Is this something to do with email settings in the accounts themselves? i can't think of any reason why.
Having hard time searching for answers to this due to the fact just about every thread has these keywords....
Here is my situation:
- Dinc2 running latest stock, rooted.
- have had for long time no issues. Received new phone due to warranty issues.
- setup google account and all is well, it is running just fine.
- within Settings>Accounts and Sync I see various accounts (Facebook, weather, etc) and 2 Google accounts (square icon with lower case g, not the gmail icon/account). 1 is for my gmail.com account and 1 is for my corp email (which uses gmail). So all is well.
- I took picture on phone and tried to send it from the gallery via the share icon and selected the gmail option in the list (note sharing via messaging (txt) has worked without issues forever). This brought me to setup of gmail account (I recently turned on 2-step security within google/gmail) and it asked for the application specific password. I got that setup and finished it just thinking it was using the gallery app to send the email so that is why it asked again.
- Once I did that I received email from VZW stating my email account (gmail one) is now setup with VZW, etc, etc. Now I typcially don't use the VZW backup assistant and don't go through any setup of email for VZW (maybe it happened in the background don't know but I have never done that didn't see that notification from VZW before). I know what this is from VZW just not sure why it happened when it did.
- Now when I go into Accounts and Sync I see my 2 original Google accounts, but also see a new Gmail (gmail icon with red M) for my gmail account. So I essentially have 2 'gmail' accounts setup on my phone within the accounts and sync area.
- I only see 1 gmail account when looking at my mail, but have noticed some emails not making and getting notifications saying the gmail account is not setup properly. I click that notification and then click finish setup and it says all is well.
- I tried deleting the gmail account (with red M icon) but it says I can't as it is used by other services on phone.
- I have gone to the VZW site and removed my gmail account from their 'server' and turned off backup assistant on the website as well (was never turned on, on the phone). I don't believe this should be an issue as I shouldn't have to use the VZW 'web email' setup they provide to customers to consolidate emails and provide web access since gmail already does that for me.
Anyone know what may be best way to resolve this? Do I have to have VZW 'web mail' setup? Should I plan to restore phone and again just setup the initial google accounts and just plan not to try and email from gallery and just use the 'attach' feature within the gmail app instead if needed?
I have tested emails from my phone and it seems they work for the most part, but it seems everyone once in a while they fail with that notice the gmail app is not setup properly (and suspect this is VZW screwing things up).
Long post, sorry, just frustrating and confusing and figured I would post it in case others have seen this.
Thanks.
Hello all,
I'm posting this after having researched online and having found nothing concrete regarding the topic. I had setup my google apps for work as an exchange account on my S6 edge via the stock email app. I had set the sync for automatic and also opted to sync up to 3 days of emails. I didn't ask the app to sync anything else. By evening, the phone was down to 45% battery with email sync accounting for 15% of the drain!
I know there may be people that suggest to use another app and/ or to setup the google apps for work as a normal gmail account. I have already done this but the speed of the push service isn't that great as that on exchange. In exchange it's instantaneous but as a normal gmail id the push is quite delayed. Coming from iOS, I have used the exchange server settings on the Apple Mail app and it was wonderful with emails pushed instantaneously yet not denting the battery much.
Is there any solution to the battery drain problem on exchange servers? Really appreciate it.
