I noticed this issue, where the Photon powers on by itself when i plug it into the computer via usb.
When the phone is off and plugged to the wall charger I get the battery charging image. But When the phone is off and plugged into the computer via usb, it powers on. Also With the usb plugged in and in charge only mode, when i perform a shutdown on the phone, it restarts right after completing shutdown.
I know this might now be a serious issue, and no one have probably come across it but same thing happened when it was connected to the PS3, i powered it off while it was on and connected to ps3 via usb and it powered back on. This could be some weird usb sending out signals trying to mount the sd card and in return it forces the phone to turn on, can someone please verify this on their phone, my brother has a photon i am gonna try this on his later tonight, just need to know it is on mine,
Well i confirmed with another Photon, it is the same issue, whenever it is plugged into a USB it turns on by itself, dont know if this happens with other phones, but it is weird

Same thing here and it is so annoying when I am just trying to charge it and it keeps booting back up.
does anyone know of a solution, i ll try playing around with it, may be something with usb debugging, highly doubt it though
Same here. I think it must be designed this way for some reason.
Does it turn on if the USB is set to 'Charge Only' mode? I think it turns on automatically by design in Phone Portal or Sync modes but it probably shouldn't in Charge Only mode.

Ok.
So at some point I soft bricked my phone and I got the Phone -- ! -- Computer screen.
Managed to get it back into download mode, and then unbricked it by getting it flashed to EB01 as instructed in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746
So now I have EB01, which is working, however there is a new problem.
When I try to plug the phone into a computer, it is not recognized (Says the device has malfunctioned).
I have tried 3 different computers. I made sure I used the cable that came with the phone.
I brought it into the Verizon store, and they were unable to get any of their computers to recognize the phone either (we tried a few other cables there as well)
This is both in download mode and within the OS itself.
They told me to try downloading Vcast however that didn't work either.
So now I'm wondering if there is something I can do to get it to recognize it properly again.
Has anyone run into this situation before and managed to fix it?
I did twice have the phone plugged in via usb to my car, and walked out the car (was talking on the phone), and the USB yanked out, so that could have potentially damaged it (though it still charges, so I don't know)
Yanking it out could have very well done it. Only thing I would suggest is reformatting the drivers and attempting again this time leaving it plugged in and rebooting the computer. If that doesn't work, replacement time.
Do you have "usb debugging" turned on?
Did you activate the connection from the phone after connecting to computer? (mine shows a green screen with a button to activate the connection for mass storage)
beyond that... idk.
redownload the samsung drivers
based on the fact that so many PC's have been unable to connect and the info on yanking the USB charger in the car (I think we have all likely done that - though for me it has happened at work with the laptop<->network cable...) you may have damaged the plug/receptor (not sure what would be proper...).
I would do a visual inspection for kicks, though I am sure there could be damage you cannot see.
I believe that these USB connections are a minimum of 4 conductors (some devices are more proprietary and use more pins to ensure you are using an official cable so they can get you to buy more of their stuff - though some of those pins are not actually wired through the cable, but rather short to each other...). If you damaged only one, that could likely be the reason that you can get a charge but no data comm - and since it seems likely that one of the two data pins would be tx and the other rx, then I could see why teh PC would report the device had malfunctioned...
I am guessing here - logic, please don't fail me...
Hi,
I've just become an happy owner of the Atrix since a week.
I'm writing to ask about a strange behaviour that's happening to my phone: my battery it's at full charge, and the phone is switched off. I plug the usb cable to the pc and to the phone, and the phone boot up himself. Not to regharge mode (the screen with the battery charging), but in phone mode.
Usb setting on the phone is set to none, and I've tried it also on a pc without the motorola software. Do you know it as a bug?
My version is 4.4.20.MB860.Retail.en.DE (Android version 2.2.2) and I've rooted the phone.
Thanks in advance!
hmm that's odd because it happened to me last night. but i plugged it into the wall, booted right into cm7. i will have to look into this. although its not a major issue for me in any sense.
This has always happened with my Atrix, i just assumed it was the way the phone was designed.
if anyone has experienced any differently, please let me know.
It's the same for me too. If the phone is off and I plug in the USB cable (either connected to a pc or wall charger) the phone boots up. I assumed this is intended.

soo when i plug my phone to connect to my desktop it says it isn't recognized with a code error 43. It wouldn't install the phone and it won't charge while it is plugged in. and when i used my wall plug to try to charge my phone from there it still didn't work. help?
What did you do to make the phone un-responsive?

well it all started as i was upgrading my psu from my desktop and i guess the usb port was loose and when my desktop was put back together the usb i believe wasnt charging and i didn't notice at that time so i left it plugged with my microusb. i come back from eating finding my phone to be really hot like insanely hot and it wont turn on at all ! then i researched and found this thread to put it in download mode and so i did. but somehow i got stuck at the download mode, so i had this crazy idea that if i removed the driver .. it might work and it would install it's software like normal.. i guessed wrong. i turned off my phone since i didnt want to waste batteries. after removing the the driver i noticed that i cant charge my phone at all .. like i have two different chargers and both didnt work, the microusb and wallplug w/o the usb. now my computer won't recognize my device and won't even install at all
I think I just had an aneurysm.
Ow.
My Nook charges fine when turned off but does not charge at all when powered on. My nook also does not show up as a connected device when I plug it into my computer. I am rooted running CM9. Any advice?
Thanks

IF you mean that it doesn't charge while the screen is on and connected to the PC, that's normal behavior... the current draw is too much for the USB port to maintain the operational draw as well as provide any extra to charge it. Most of the time, you'll notice that you're actually still losing charge even though it's plugged into the PC... albeit at a much slower rate than usual.
As far as it not being recognized... what do you mean? You don't get the drives mounted? It's not being recognized by ADB? There's plenty of threads related to ADB, try giving it a search. If you mean that the drives aren't being recognized, you have to have a SD card in and turn on USB Sharing (or whatever it's actually called) it should be in the notification area.
Thanks for the reply,
It does not charge from an outlet while powered on; only when powered off.
What I mean in regards to it not showing up on the PC: I plug it in and it does not even recognize a device is plugged in - I don't even get to the install new drivers part. Its as if nothing was ever plugged to begin with.
The nook is recognized when I use my galaxy nexus usb cord and attach it to the computer. I am starting to think this is a hardware issue; I just find it strange that the hardware works as intended while the Nook is powered off.
Mike
There's a chance that you have a broken Nook cable then.
Try getting a battery monitoring app to see what sort of current you're getting while it's on. Is the "n" on the cord lighting up while it's plugged in and on?
Yes, when it is on and plugged in the "n" is green no matter the charge
I think you should try a different Nook cable, they can do that for you at B&N's actual store without you having to buy a new cable. If that doesn't work I would wager that it would be the port.
Now, I feel I should point out that for reasons unknown to me that manual specifically says you should not plug the unit in to charge while the unit is off. As I said, I don't know why. I know I have done that with my iPhone when I need a really fast charge (plug it in, then turn it off) but never had to do that with the Nook. Just... Some FYI for you.
I have a problem with my LeMax 2. I was using google camera for some picture taking, and all of a sudden phone shuts down. I connected it to the charger, thinking that the battery is dead, but all I can see is backlight, without anything on the screen.
then I connected it to a computer, and there was a popup that said: "the last device you connected to this computer malfunctioned". it seems that USB cable is burnt out. I changed the USB cable, but the same error occurs.
The strange part is that i get notifications, I can locate the phone via Find my device, but i can't see anything on the screen, only i can see a backlight. PC does not recognize it, i tried Linux, win10, win7, USB OTG. i ordered a new Dock Connector Charging Port Flex Cable https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-New-Dock-Connector-Charging-Port-Flex-Cable-For-Letv-leEco-Le-Max2-Max-2-X820/32828762033.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.116b4c4ds9GGuN, and changed it, but the problem persists.
i can only see backlight, the phone can be located, the notifications can be heard, but USB is only good for charging, even after replacing it.
Does anybody have some idea how to revive it?
Heyyo, hmm does tapping the power button allow the backlight to at least work? Please rest that in a dark room to see if you can notice the backlight.
If not? It could be a hardware issue... You could try heating the device with a heat gun and then using a suction cup or screen seperation tool and then check the connection of the screen to the device and ensure it is properly connected.
There could be other recommendations if someone else also has an idea
Yes, the backlight works. I opened phone, changed USB port and checked the screen connection. Firstly I thought that USB is fried due to some weird power surge when connecting the charger, but after changing the USB, it is the same.
The next thing that came to my mind is that USB connection on motherboard is fried. As I said, the phone charges up, but when connected to pc, it shows that device has malfunctioned. The screen has backlight, as far I can say it registers a touch, device finder can locate it, sound works...
