[Q] Inspire 4G idle timeout problems (network, not display) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I'm new to the forums, having recently switched from iOS to Android. So if this is a repost, I apologize, but I did not see this problem anywhere (to my knowledge).
I have an Inspire 4G on AT&T, and I have only one problem with it:
When I am sitting at my desk at school, I have full bars of HSPA+. However, when I put my phone down for a certain amount of time, and turn on the screen, it says I have no bars. When I finally get bars back, I receive all the texts that were sent to me at once. As you can imagine, this can be a pain, and it causes me to miss texts/calls that need to be answered in a timely fashion. Anyone have any ideas? I just updated to gingerbread, and I have "always enable data" set to on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

4g works but switching to 3g/1x doesn't seem to

Hello Just wanted to say thank you to all the peope who support this awesome website.
I got my TBolt yesterday and i know people have said they have had weird reception for 4g and what not. Luckily my house is in the center of a 4g area so in my house i have had perfect 4g coverage but today i went to town and i looked like it was trying to switch from 3g, 1x, or 4g but unsuccefully as it would only stay for a few seconds then disapear. Does this have to do with Verizon problems? if not what should i do?
Thanks
I was having the same issues going back to 3G from 4G. I would get no icons on the top of the screen and could only make phone calls. Tech support had me do a factory restore and that fixed it right away. Very annoying for sure to have to set up your phone all over again. If this keeps happening I'm not sure I will keep the phone. I am not about to factory reset every time this network handoff issue occurs.
Tech support told me they are working on a fix and I don't need to hard reset it yet. To me its silly to hard reset if its just going to happen again.
i was having similar issues and tech support had me take out the battery for a min and then put it back in and boot up and i had 3g back
Battery pull didn't work for me...
thanks guys battery pull seemed to work well!
Local VZW store said a national tech support email went out this afternoon regarding TB problems switching and dropping data. Email said the fix is on the network side and the phones have to be hard reset after 1PM mountain time to be fixed. Sounds fishy, but maybe worth a try.
I saw this linked in another thread. I take no credit for it.

It helped me a little bit with my sporadic 3G connections here at work.
It appears vzw's eHPRD's network is down which is why data has been dropping once a tbolt is out of LTE coverage.
Use the ##778# menu (hit call after ##778#)-->password is 000000-->modem settings-->Rev A-->choose enable-->hit the menu button on the tbolt and commit changes
This is from the androidcentral forums. I can't post links yet, but a quick search over there will reveal the specifics.
This forces the device to use EVDO instead of eHPRD so you'll lose simultaneous voice/data, but at least if you're not in LTE coverage you'll get data. The device will still connect to LTE if it's available.
This worked on my device and my wife's.
I noticed that even in some areas of the same city that this network error is causing no access to 3g. I tested it by following the guide and sure enough the 1x switched to 3G. I hope Verizon gets this up and running. I think this is also causing calls to drop.

God Dam ****ing verizon biooootch, angered me so much saying i couldnt get on 3g because I voided my warranty by doing *#*#4636#*#* and shutting of LTE. OMG I wanted to punch her through the phone.
I've been having an issue and I don't know if it's related, but it sounds like it.
I've been turning my phone to "CDMA auto (PRL)" whenever I go out for the day to conserve battery. But there's this one place that seems to disconnect me whenever I go. It's happened twice now, but when I go there, I lose data service and can't manage to get it back even after switching to 4G. The first time it happened, it was out from about 11pm to 3am. Today, though, I switched it to 4G and it came back, along with 3G.
Now, the problem here is that my girlfriend's Thunderbolt is fine during all of this. I'll lose 3G, but hers will stay connected even though we'll be in the same location. I don't understand what would be different about mine than hers. :S
Hey DJComent try pinggolf12's fix it worked for me.

[Q] Not getting second half of texts, AND gps acting weird.

Hi all,
I'm the kid whose buddy rooted his phone, and doesn't have much of a clue as to whats going on.
I've since moved out of state and am no longer near my buddy
Anyways, lately, when people send me a long text, I'll get the first half, but not he second half. And it won't come period. Why would this be?
And also, My gps worked for a while, then suddenly, in the past few days, hasn't been working. Does the gps require data coverage to work? I dont' have great data coverage in this area unfortunately.
Thank you.

Well, as far as the text messages go, I believe you can only have up to 160 characters in one text. Some message apps will automatically spilt it up into two messages if its more than 160. Not sure if that's the reason, just a little tid bit.
I'm not 100% sure but I believe you do need a data connection for gps use.

You do need DATA 3g or 4g to get GPS to work.

[Q] Voicemail/MMS/update all Failing - Bad antenna?

Hello everyone,
As this is my first post I would like to take a quick moment to say thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide; and even though I just finally registered today, I have been using the information on your site for a the past few years! And now that I've said my sincere and heartfelt thanks....
Please help me with this ASAP if possible!!!!
Current Issues:
Last Thursday when I woke up my 4g and 3g signal were very poor so I ran updates on my phone. PRL and profile both said they updated. However, when I went to send a text I instantly got the "text message not sent" error. I also discovered right after this "update" that my hot spot was not working and I only had 1 signal bar in 4g, nothing in 3g.
Next I did all the battery removal/re-set "tricks." After that the hot spot works and 3g and 4g signal strengths are a little bit better, but I still cannot send or receive MMS nor have I received one voicemail notification. When I go to Sprint Zone app under 'My Device' here is what it says:
My Connections
SMS failed. Select update profile which may solve the problem
Update Profile
A profile update is available, update now to ensure full access to the network and data services.
Coverage Update
A coverage update (PRL) is available, update now to maximize your coverage area.
I've ran the updates several times, most of the time it says the updates were successful. However, the update notifications are still present, service is still super choppy, and still no MMS/voicemail.
Did some troubleshooting with Sprint "advanced" tech support...what a joke. They have no idea what I'm talking about and have given me the run-around. I can provide more info as needed. I'm finally in panic mode because I own my own company and am losing a lot of communications with clients due to these messaging issues.
Willing to donate $ to anyone that can help me get this phone working (I have a feeling a root may help/be necessary but don't want to screw the phone up more)
Background -
I am currently using a Motorola Photon 4g, which I purchased from a Sprint Store in January, 2012. I have rooted each of my 4 previous devices, however have not yet rooted the MoPho because I haven't really liked enough about it to even want to "tinker" with it. I have performed updates regularly, and in my apartment I get a decent 4g signal...however in certain areas of my house I do not get incoming calls or texts. I've also had several instances in which I would be in the middle of a MMS conversation and I would stop receiving texts; during which time I would then power my phone off and back on and upon restart would get an influx of text messages that had not previously been delivered. Usually updating Profile and PRL help a little for a short amount of time.
First of all, welcome to the forums!
As for your text messages suddenly stopping that happens to me relatively often when in really spotty service and if I reboot ill usually get them in a wave. I would personally call Sprint and try to get them to send you an Airave, they've done it many times when customers have spotty service and complain. Often times its free of charge too. This will plug into your router and your phone will effectively run through your home Internet, at full 3g both voice and data. I have an older 1x version and it lights up my house pretty good and very rarely have any dropped calls. Have you taken the device away from your home out somewhere you know has good service? If not id try that, it may not be your device but the tower thats near your house thats having issues. If you call up Sprint tech support they can tell you if tower nearest you is *supposedly* up and running perfect or if its having any issues. I don't know how attached you are to the apps/data on your phone but personally I would consider either a full factory reset first and if that doesn't help SBF back to stock. AFAIK there arent any good backup apps that done require having root access so i'm not sure if you'd want to go through all that to get all your stuff back after you wipe it. And there is no guarantee that this would resolve the issue, just what I personally would try if I were in your shoes because I have a hunch that it would help out. Before doing anything else though I would try to determine if its your actual phone or the network, if it works well elsewhere then its just Sprints wonderful network..

[Q] Constant Switching Between 4G LTE and 3G

Hi all,
This question might have been posted already seeing as this phone is about a year old already. I'm running the STOCK ICS ROM OTA 4.0.4 unrooted. I've noticed that after the update my phone keeps switching from 4G to 3G and back but the problem is so bad that I lose every bar of signal (i.e. empty bars and of course no data) for at least a minute when the phone switches. I've already gone through the process of getting a replacement phone and I will need another because the receiver (speaker inside when I make a phone call, not sure what its really called) sounds awfully tinny and when the hang up tone plays the speaker sounds like its about to blow out. I lowered the in call volume to half, but it still doesn't work and my phone sounds tinny when ever someone talks during a phone call. I never had that problem with my old RAZR. As for the data issue, I am aware that I live in an old building because at the most I get between 3-4 bars of 4G LTE but sometimes as low as 2 bars. However, outside on the street I get full bars of 4G LTE and it still switches back to 3G on it's own. I have tried Motorola's restore connectivity app on the play store but that didn't work and I don't have anything like smart actions or LTE on/off app running on my phone.
Is anybody else having these issues? At first I thought Verizon sucks in my house but it doesn't I still get crystal clear sound on calls and text messages are promptly sent and received. I also, of course, live in a 4G LTE area with good solid coverage. As a control I have an iPad 4G LTE with Verizon on a separate account and it consistently stays connected to LTE. It never drops below 2 bars and the LTE of course maintains its fast speed. On the other hand, the RAZR, will switch between both technologies at least 5 times a day if not more. I know that they both have different radio technologies but they should at least be similar in some respect. I have also seen an iPhone 5 at the Verizon Corportate kiosk at my local mall. It's obvious there are repeaters but they are not for 4G because none of the phones are on 4G, they are on 3G. The iPhone 5, however, had one bar of LTE and it loaded up a web page just fine and I never saw it drop back down to 3G. I'm trying to see if there is a solution. Have any of the Jellybean ROMs addressed this issue?

[Q] Singal Problems for the One Max?

Hey guys, Punk9 again.
I live in the UCF area (Orlando FL) and I have LTE signal here. I have around 2-3 bars of service most of the time as well.
Lately I have been getting texts late, and not even receiving phone calls. For example, my gf sent me 6 texts within about an hour, I got all six at once, each with the time stamp of the time she sent them, but I got them all at the same time. She also called twice and nothing rang on my end, but it rang for 30 seconds and went to my voice mail on her end.
Is this a known issue or? I'm running ViperROM for Sprint one max. It was happening when I was stock as well (which is why i didn't post in the ROM thread)
Any ideas?
-Andrew.
yeah, call sprint and tell them about your signal issue..
Did yoi flash with cwm or twrp? I havr heard there are issues with signal when flashing with cwm.
*I have not personally used cwm on this device

they've actually been very good lately, in the Chicago land area, about responding the these kinds of issues..We have the new Spark network here, and its been really good so far, but there are some spots that need to be tweaked. When you call them and report it, they appear to spend time to send a detailed report out to their field network folks, and, so far, the 3 times that I reported areas with dead zones, when i returned, the problem appeared to be fixed.
hope it works that way for you..
I'm at work in Maspeth Queens New York and I have the Spark 4G LTE with 1 Bar most of the time which eats up my battery. Then the rest of the time, My phone has anywhere from 4 to 6 Bars on 3G.
At My House I have No 4G Anything! And sometimes, a Crappy 3G signal. I have a Sprint Airaive because of that. And the Bad thing that SUCKS, is that I'm less than 2.Miles from the Tower with a Clear Line of Sight and I Roam about half of the time if I unplug the Airaive.

This sounds like a common CSFB issue. All new triband phones, or Spark devices use a new technology called Circuit Switch Fall Back, which allows the phone to use less battery because it has one radio for everything. When the device connects to LTE, it cuts off connection the 3G network, and essentially loses the ability to send/receive texts/calls. CSFB is the answer to this, however, it is not wholly deployed. CSFB tells the phone via LTE to switch back to 3G to receive phone calls and texts, as well as to send them. Since the technology is not as widely deployed as the amount of users of the new devices, theses issues happen.
A common way to fix this is to stay on 3G only mode, which is a burden. Otherwise hope the Sprint tech is smart enough to know its a Spark phone related issue, and knows how to send a tech out to your area to fix it. Last resort is to wait it out.
Calling Sprint may or may not do anything. I have been experiencing these problems since day one in New York City at my home, and every call to Sprint was answered with a saying that it is an issue with your phone.
