I know awhile back I read on pluse that you could get your push notifications working on Android by logging into a blackberry phone. Well I did not have a blackberry available so instead I used my daughters IPod Touch. I logged into my Facebook account on her touch and let it load my data. I then logged out. With in minutes I begain receiving push notifications on my photon. Just wanted to share my findings with everyone.

Hi guys,
My unlocked unrooted Hero has been fine but since yesterday the HTC mail programme is not updating folders from my gmail account as it should. It is set to check every 10 mins but I can see it's been hours or overnight in some cases and no update has taken place. It manually refreshes ok but anyone know why it would sometimes stop doing it automatically? This is a bit worrying as email is important for work. Oh, and I'm using an always on wi-fi connection not mobile data.
Yeah. Dont kill the mail app with a task manager
I wondered that too once.
Thanks for that - seems to work. Strangely google mail app also opens opens up with the htc mail app. Can i shut that down? What is the relationship between the htc mail and google mail app - does the htc app use google mail?? As far as I can tell its impossible to remove google mail app to simplify things. Any thoughts appreciated!
the google mail app runs all the time as it is a push mail client. That and it'snot open source and is built in to the operating system.
seems a bit of a funny way to do it if you have a google mail account, why not just sign in and use the google mail app to get your gmail...thats what it's there for!
or is this a second gmail account?

I know I could do that. However the HTC mail allows me to use the widget and the icon on the front screen shows the number of new emails. I thought as I'd bought a new phone why not take advantage of it but seems like it complicates things. No big deal though and thanks for your input!
Hi everyone, total noob here. I have been unable to attach photos to email using the yahoo app on my vibrant. It says it's attached, but never actually sends the pic. It works fine in gmail. Anyone else have this problem. Is this just a problem with the app, or related to the phone? Yahoo, also only sporadically sends me notifications of new emails, and often they are a day late.
Thanks
Mine does this too. It maybe that the files are too large, or at least thats what I suspect. I havent found a work around yet. I was considering a pic shrinking app to try that. Just havnt made it around to it yet. I'm too busy trying to figure out this Android Debug Bridge deal. I cant get it to work on the computer. Damn windows!
yeah I would think it might be the file size as well, except that gmail has no problem sending the same file.
Try K9 mail, I use it fire all my email needs. It even works for a regular hotmail account. NOTE: I don't think push works for Yahoo.

Update,
If anyone still care's, I've been using mail droid lately from the market. So far so good. Its free. It downloads and sends pics. And also pushes e-mail notifications instantly, just like my old crack berry! I was actually starting to miss that. Fyi guys.

I myself have used K9 and have many issues not getting my mail, freezing, tried uninstalling but the same problem
Any other mail programs worth using?
Want Facebook to tell you when someone posts on your wall instantly instead of wait for the hour sync or more depending on what you have refresh set at? I actually have mine set to never refresh. Saves so much battery. The fix just required me to test something out by going to my local Sprint store.
I have tried forever to get push notifications ever since the first day the EVO 4G came out with no luck. Recently my wife got an Epic and the got instant Facebook notifications. I compared her Facebook settings on phone as well as Facebook.com and all were the same. Today I decided to look at her apps on Facebook.com and I noticed a difference. She has the Facebook for blackberry app. Her previous phone was a blackberry tour. So i decided to take a trip to the Sprint store since we sold her blackberry. I logged into Facebook from the in store demo. Sure enough I now get push notifications on my EVO and of course I signed out on the store demo. Still gettin push notifications and i love it. Hope it works for you. Of course if you have an active blackberry you won't have to go to a store. Good luck.

hmmm my facebook app actually does push notifications without me having to set anything else up. my evo 4g never did it though, so this was a nice surprise.
All,
My friend used to have a Motorola Droid X on VZW and upgraded to the SIII. He can't get his e-mail to sync any more frequently than 15 minutes with Comcast, but he used to be able to do this on the Motorola. Gmail seems to push correctly in the Gmail app but that isn't his primary account.
I figured I'd post on his behalf, after searching and not finding anything relevant in the S3 forums. Is there a way to get push to work on the stock e-mail app?

My boss' S3 has the same problem with his AOL account. His emails dont always arrive in order either. Some older ones will show up after newer ones.
I'm using k9 mail for my business domain but I know Comcast doesn't even support IMAP could it be a Comcast and not the email client?

I'll double check, jason, but he claims he had it on his Droid. He tried a Comcast app too, he says nowhere (even Settings -> Accounts) can he change polling to les than 15 minutes for his accounts.
At work we use Lotus Notes. Coming from iPhone to Nexus 4, I am not interested in having one app for personal mail, and the bloated **** of Lotus Traveler app for work mail *which everyone here says kills the battery*.
So I managed to use the same manual exchange settings that I push to our iPads to make the native email app work. The problem now is that after I nand-restored the lotus side of email doens't work and if I remove and readd the exchange account, I don't get prompted to re-install the device administrator profile.
I've been trying to find on the server how/where that push comes from with no luck, I've tried searching the googles for how to.
Anyone know what files to remove from teh device to get this to work again?
Turned out something with cyanogen mod ROM from that day. Problem removing and reinstalling mail works now.
