i still have yet to be able to connect via wireless tether...no matter what version i use...
Using 3.0 pre 14 and it just works.
Maybe you guys should try and verify you are rooted....use root check from the market.
Thinking you are rooted and being rooted are 2 different things....no?

I installed the market version of Wifi Tether (currently 2.0.7):
https://market.android.com/details?id=android.tether
It worked for me to a limited extent, but many features, including big ones like encryption and infrastructure mode aren't compatible with the Photon.
here is the link to the beta that isn't in the market yet. Works perfect and has encryption as well as other bells and whistles.

Seems to work, but I can't see the network..

Connecting to Gateway laptop and O know the difference between rooted and not rooted. This problem is common for many users...

Most android tablets can't connect to adhoc networks. The photon creates a adhoc network. You have to root your tablet and change the wpa_supplicant file. Search the tablet forums for "wpa_supplicant" instructions.

Thank you!! I've been looking for a good tethering app with my new Photon, and haven't had much success in finding one that works - looking forward to trying this one out!
=)
Interesting that I never noticed this before but I got a No Access Control message when I start Wireless tether.
"Sorry but your kernal does not have all necessary features for the Access Control feature of this application. Access Control will be disabled."
Was using Beta 2 but downloaded the Beta 4 version. After seeing that message I hit ignore and never saw it again.
Anyone else see that message.
TS
OK - so I got it to work - it turns out that some windows 7 drivers are buggy as hell - especially for the intel wireless network cards - I installed a different driver (a generic one as opposed to the actual driver for my wifi card) and tethering now works.
Doesn't wifi tether for root have an infrastructure mode option? I thought it did.
Edit: Nope, it doesn't. Also can't use access control options at this time.

Yep, tried both on my main install of Win 7 x64 and through a virtualbox version (Win 7 x86), neither work with the lastest moto drivers installed. Have not tried with Linux yet.
I Don't Think I've Used The Wired Tether Yet At All On My X2, But I Have It Installed In Case. It's Possible This App Doesn't Work With X2(Highly Doubt) Or Verizon/Google Is Blocking It.

First, your caps are distracting.. Your keyboard just capitalizing every word, at first I thought you were spelling something.
And those that have wired tether working, did you need drivers for them to work on a pc? I was just hoping it could be just plugged in and go..

Hi guys, I have my Atrix 4G with AT&T stock 2.3.4 ROM and I really need to connect to ad-hoc connections. I can see it, but it says "Obtaining IP address" and then disconnects.
I need a working-with-ad-hoc-connections wpa_supplicant or any other solution.
Regards.

Are you using the mobile hotspot app that came with the stock ROM? What's the device you are trying to connect to?
Sent from my Atrix XDA Premium App
Connecting to adhoc works with Cyanogenmod 7. However, for the stock rom u might need to patch the wpa_supplicant to work with adhoc connection. Primarily such restriction by factory OEM rom because adhoc connection drain a lot of battery.

Hello,
At first i would like to apologize for my bad English
So, i have a problem. I have my old G1 with root, and i have installed wireless tether program. I turned it on and everything seems ok. But my Neo V can't see it in options, while an Iphone 4 see it and connects to it. I albo downloaded wifi finder to Neo and there is the tether, but when i click connect it goes to options where i can't see it.
Do you have any ideas how to connect them?

Just got my AT&T Galaxy Note yesterday and saw that it has built in Hotspot functionality, you just need to have it on your AT&T plan for it to work.
So my question... is there a free app out there (for non rooted) that will allow you to do Wifi tethering even if you do not have it on your AT&T plan?
There's no WiFi tethering apps for a non-rooted phone. Your only options are the apps like Tether (clockworkmod's), PDANet, etc.

If you were rooted, you could use Titanium Back up to freeze AT&T's "TetheringManager" and it will allow you to use the built in tethering (USB and WiFi) for free.
AT&T might have the ability to notice it. I wouldn't worry about it too much. They usually give warning before and action.
Use FoxFi
Doesn't require root.
There's an app called FoxFi that seems to work well and doesn't require root or a tethering plan.

Has anyone had any luck achieving this functionality on the Z3v with or without root?

We are talking about REVERSE tether, which means that we want to use a computer internet connection to have internet on the phone.
It SHOULD be a standard feature as it is so easy to implement ! Some older version of android were allowing this easily and some phone maker were puting this as an option, now it's a hassle with LP !
