hello guys, well this is the story
i'd flashed my galaxy ace with several roms (blackhawk, villain, coderom) but it always happens the same. when it finish, and in odin says "close serial port and wait until reeboting", the cellphone lights the screen and says "samsung" in white for 1 second, and then reboot, and then reboot... and it keeps doing it. what have i done wrong?? the weird thing is that one time it works with villain rom, but i turn off the phone and when i turned it on again the problem appears.
i would really appreciatte your help.
(sorry about my bad english)
Try to wipe data/factory reset using CWM before reflashing a ROM
how can i do that??? been trying to get this **** working for like 3 hours u.u
Get the CWM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
If you cant browse zipfiles on your recovery mode, name the zip file to "update.zip" and install your update.
If you are able to browse through your files, just pick the zip file then.
After you installed it, reboot to recovery mode and factory reset.

Hey,
did you try to flash a stock rom? XWKPN for instance? You can get it here: samfirmware.com.
If you flashed this and it still keeps on rebooting then take out your battery, leave it out for a minute, push your powerbutton a few times, put the battery back in and try to get into recovery. When your in then wipe data/factory reset and reboot.
This worked for me, hope it will work for you two. Do it at your own risk hee.
Good luck and cheers.
look i have done this steps
flash blackhawk, so i can have gingerbread, it turns out ok
flash cwm v3.2.0.1, i use the gingerbread version, it turns out ok.
so now i suppost i can go into recovery mode and wipe data and factory reset
but when i try to go into recovery mode (volumen up, power and home) it says something like ramdumped, arm9 mode and it stucks there
how can i go to recovery u.u??

2)after that, i flash cwm mode 3.0 for gingerbread version, but the problem with reebooting keeps going.
3) i use your metod, take out the batery, and then put it in again, i press HOME + POWER and i got the same problem with the rebooting and no recovery mode...

Did you flash stock rom already? For now forget about CWM for a moment, just flash a stock rom XWKPN 2.3.3 gingerbread
Try part two using the stock rom.
Then start from part 0.

I will create a noob proof guide when I get some time, but at the moment I barely have time to pick it up from the store!
I plan to follow this when I receive mine as it correlates to what has been said here on XDA.
Hope this will filter some of the chatter from Q & A as soon as everyone received their devices .

The above link is all you need. I'm a noob when it comes to andriod and this only took a minute to do.
Just follow the following steps on that threads second post.
- Unzip the attached Odin3-vX.X.zip file
- Download and unzip the CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold volume-down + home + power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)

Completely agree. Having come from HTC devices that sometimes took me round the houses to root (the Flyer was a nightmare), following the guidance above meant my phone was rooted in a matter of minutes. You don't need anything else
I switched from iphone to the S3 and I used this to root and it was very simple to follow for me who didnt know anything about android:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
Problem is that users post or use a method from another site that has been copied from XDA sometimes not fully posted or an out of date method .
Have we not already got more than one noob root guide including videos .

NOTE: DO NOT panic if you get any errors, and do not stray from these steps. If you have a concern, please post in the thread and I will get back to you in a timely fashion, or someone else will help you. The only way you will mess yourself up is if you wing it at any point, like panicking when your .181 fastboot errors occasionally, or "freezes".
Files you'll need:- Modified Droid Razr Utility 1.6 - Credits to G8orDroid & Mattlgroff @ DroidRZR (required)
- The update file for the ICS Leak you want to install (required) - no link because there's always a new one around the corner and I don't wanna update the OP every two days. Ask in the thread if you need it.
If you're on .181 or earlier (GB), OR on an ICS leak prior to .84, such as .79 or .75...
-------MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS AT LEAST AT 50% BATTERY BEFORE YOU INSTALL. I ACTUALLY RECOMMEND 75% OR 100%, BUT AT THE VERY LEAST BE AT 50% OR YOU RISK HAVING TO HOTWIRE YOUR RAZR TO CHARGE IT IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG/TOO SLOW. BE CAUTIOUS!!!-------
- PUT THE UPDATE FILE ON YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD FIRST.
You will not be able to use your RAZR to put the files on the SD card after you begin. Please do so beforehand.
- Turn on USB Debugging.
- Open the Droid Razr Utility 1.6 Modified .bat file.
- Press any button after ADB starts up. Then type in 15 and press enter, and follow the onscreen instructions to reboot into AP Fastboot (bootloader).
- Return to the main menu.
- Type 1 and press enter twice.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to Fastboot to .181 using Modified Droid RAZR Utility to make sure you're completely stock and the update will go through.
- Turn your phone off.
- Turn your phone back on, holding VOL UP + VOL DWN.
- Use VOL DWN to go down to "Recovery", and then VOL UP to select it.
- Press VOL UP+VOL DWN to bring up the recovery menu once an image pops up after the rebooted phone's Motorola logo.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to "apply update from external storage", then press PWR.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to the update file (named BlurVersion____________ unless you changed it.), then press PWR.
- You should get no errors, and the phone should install the update successfully. Congrats, you're on ICS!
- I recommend factory resetting here to be safe, but you don't have to.
- Use VOL UP+VOL DWN to navigate to "reboot phone", then press PWR to leave recovery.
- Reroot if you want, using the guide at the bottom of the post.
If you're on .181 or earlier (GB), OR on an ICS leak prior to .84, such as .79 or .75... But the above instructions gave you a sideload error...

- Pick up your phone, and skip setup as it is futile at this point. You'll just want to turn on USB Debugging.
- On your computer, return to the main menu.
- Type 3 and press enter. Follow the directions to root your phone. It should reboot three times total.
- Install ROM Manager from the Play Store (no need for premium if you don't want it)
- DO NOT CLICK INSTALL RECOVERY, AND DO NOT INSTALL BOOTSTRAP
- Copy the update file and the .crc to /cache using a file manager of your choosing with root permissions if you did not already do so.
- Open /cache in a file browser of your choosing that will prompt you which application to use instead of opening the .zip file itself (ES File Explorer seems most popular - remember that you'll have to go enable root permissions in settings to even get to /cache, though!)
- Tap on the .zip and open it with ROM Manager
- Don't check anything in the popup and reboot recovery
- It will flash and finish
- Done! I recommend factory resetting again here. Reroot if you want using the guide at the bottom of the post.

You are now on what we coined "Psuedo-.181" - some weird hybrid of GB and ICS files. Your phone will not boot at this point. This utility also installs the .210 kernel, so you're ready to go to the next step.
- You can close the utility now. Pick up your phone.
- Press VOL DWN + VOL UP to bring up the text on the recovery menu once you see the Android with an open control panel stomach.
- Navigate down to "Apply update from external SD"
- Select the .211 zip file you downloaded.
- *IF IT FAILS THE FIRST TIME, CLEAR YOUR CACHE, TURN YOUR PHONE OFF, AND TRY THIS PARAGRAPH AGAIN.*
And now you're on the new ICS! Factory/Cache reset if you want, then use VOL DWN + VOL UP to navigate to Reboot phone, and press PWR to reboot.
If you want root on this new ICS build:- Turn on your phone and let it boot normally
- Set everything up, and then turn on USB debugging (pull down the notification panel, tap the wrench, go all of the way down to developer options, tap that, then make sure USB debugging is checked), and make sure it isn't on Mass Storage mode (pull down the notification panel, tap on "connected as ____" and change to MTP or PTP.)
- Open the modified Droid RAZR utility and go to the main menu.
- Type 5 and press enter.
- Press enter again.
- Wait for the process to end completely. Your phone should reboot twice.
Rooted!

I wish I had seen these instructions about nine hours ago. I've been struggling with getting my Razr on .79, and finally figured it out. Would have saved me a lot of time if I had started with your directions!
Yeah, I was surprised how many people were having trouble and were using tools like the ICS Installer, so I thought I'd just compile my posts together for people to see.

None of them go indepth, leading to people jumping to conclusions on what to do in several situations. It's counterintuitive and leads people to bricks. I made my guides almost fool-proof, gathering like 15 likes over on droidrzr, so I thought I'd bring them over here for you guys.
I used .75 and safestrap to upgrade to the latest nightly. If I want .209 on my phone, what do I do? Your instructions only discuss gb or ics above .79.

Are people still doing this since its all but confirmed ICS will be OTA in less than a week?
We've heard like 3 speculated dates, and they were all wrong. I'd imagine this one probably is too.
Yah, but this is the first time I've actually seen it from sources* other than "that guy on the forumz"... Its keeping my hope alive anyway. heh
*Source,source
One of them was from a Best Buy system pic, one from a Verizon system pic. This one is just "well, our sources say..."
Everytime i try this, i get to install zip and then get error, sideload r something, and abort.
Can i get some help please?
Which are you doing, the first set of instructions or the second?
2nd set, the coming from ICS leak, back to 181, unstuck 209 flash 209 in stock recovery
You flashed .209 kernel in fastboot before trying to install? If so, just try installing twice.
I have tried multiple times. Even tried rebooting, waiting, going back recovery, wiping cache, then trying again. alway's same error.
1st
assert failed: apply_patch_check("MTD:boot: buch of numbers")
E:error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
status 7
2nd
when i try again
assert failed: mount("ext3" , "MTD", "system", "/system")
E:error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
status 7
then ill get 2nd error over and over if i try again.
looks like you need to fast boot 181 again. Make sure you flash the boot img before you go back to flash the update again.
Hey guys,
I have recently rooted my device N3 (N9005) with CF-Auto-Root by Chainfire. (It trigged Knox to 0x1, it’s fine as its an overseas unit)
Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Download and unzip the CF-Auto-Root-....zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar.md5 file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
It took me less than 10 seconds to get it done, all perfectly rooted.
But unfortunately, now my screen is flickering like crazy. I can’t even use the N3 right now.
When I boot it to Download Mode, screen is perfectly fine, but when I boot it to Recovery mode or the OS, it flickers like mad.
I’ve tried reflashing the stock ROM (downloaded from sammobile) but it doesn’t seem to work. What seems to be the problem?
I’ve googled “android screen flickering issue” but it seems that I am the only N3 user that is facing this problem.
The other problems are from HTC/Nexus,SGT10.1, tried the options suggested (eg auto brightness, developer option settings), some even said it’s the kernel issue.
I’ve only been using the N3 for a week and now its not working! HELP!!

Problem solved, sent it back to Samsung and got the LCD screen replaced for free!! They ignored the voided knox warranty. :good:
Hi Guys
Today I want to bring some simple and effektive Insights on proper Device & Software Management and also about Mistakes on the Way and Solutions! :good:
So make yourself comfortable and check this out! It will really help at one point or another!
Well well, so after a really long and stressfull day with no sleep at all for now straight 40h, I just got a HUGE Relief, that I finally found a Solution for this Struggle!
Over the Years it got much more complicated with rooting etc because the Manufacturere make it more complicated every year and protect their (our) devices.
So after beeing in the Community for a While I want to give back! And also give out a HUGE THANKS for everyone here in the XDA Community & who is here and helps in some way! :fingers-crossed::highfive:
And especially really big THANKS! to all the great developers here!
What happened?
(you can find the whole struggle here - in this thread (there was no help...!))
Yesterday, when I was tired, but I wanted to "quickly Update" to latest Firmware of Beyond Rom (from 5.2 to 5.8)
But then it all went wrong. I made some hasty actions and so Mistakes followed and it all went wrong in some way or another...
Basically I screwed up my System and it would be gone ! So I thought, unti now! But let me explain first and write about Mistakes one can make... (dispite having alot of experience over the years)
MISTAKES
Not to make a proper Backup, before modifieng anything on the System!
This is one of the worst mistakes, because when it's gone - it's gone! All the Time, Work and Unique Things (Pictures/Videos/Conversations etc)
• No Backup
• No/little Preparation
• Risky Filemanagement
• Hasty work
• work too tired on complicated or critical things
Problem:
Yesterday I saved the FULL TWRP SYSTEM/DATA/etc Backup on the internal Backup, because the 200 GB external SD-Card was full or didn't had enought Space... (I didn't removed all the Photos and Videos I made for a while)
AND not only that - I also did save the whole November on the internal SD-Card and did not make an extra BACKUP!! (NOTE: copy all unique files from internal SDCARD to hard drive - before flashing the new ROM-Update!) :cyclops:
Also after that I thought, I didn't had the right TWRP Version (not latest) and quickly decided to flash the recovery.img with it, inside twrp as a the last resort... bad Idea, because after that it would not let me in (it wasn't compatible with 5.2 - see the beyond rom thread)
when I made the Combination of Keys: VOLup+Bixby+Power = RECOVERY the screen instantly dissapeared and I was shocked... there was more and more. One Time it says something like "Only use original Firmware..." when I wanted to go to download Modus! Combination VOLdown+Bixby+USB-C-Cable-plug-in = Download Mode
The whole Day I had a really really bad Feeling about this whole thing, I thought it was lost, so many unique pictures (family, spezial events etc) and communications, new contacts etc. everything would be lost!
It was soo hard - that I got a spontanious Idea.... wich probably saved my Ass! I bought a new Galaxy S10 today and flashed about 100 GB up and down of different Versions of DBT Firmware, AP Files and Custom Roms...
Until I got it right!
So I really got into it today and I found those Tutorials here
Solution:
• Found the Samsung S10 Rooting Dynamics & how to avoid the stumbling blocks
• Read the Proper Tutorial & watch a Video on how to do it.
• Combine everything and try it out first in an secure enviroment and then go for the real deal!
• Make sure it works!
• Set your Focus, Heart & Intentions properly! This is the main weapons in life to become sucessful in any situation - in the long run!
CONCLUSIONS:
• Always Backup properly, before working in the System - even on smaller Things - working with Titanium Backup, removing System related Apps) - it might cause a Bootloop afterwards!
• Make at least a Full TWRP Backup, before updating or modifing something critical / System related
• You always come back to your Backup when something goes wrong - you will be happy, you made it, I guarantee you that!
• When its complicated check out multiple Sources & People or someone who made it very good - when you want to learn to be successful with the thing you do.
• Don't decide to quickly when it has big consequences (I could have taken my older Backup from 1. November by this time)
• You always will find a good solution - in the end - if you focus on finding the solution as long as it takes and in several tries - don't let complicated things or fails overwhelm you.
I'm now really happy, because everything went good in the End and I had some very good Learnings & Experience on the Way!
That what Problems are for... to learn and grow! So don't worry about the Problems to much, but ask & go in the Direction for Solutions! UNTIL - you find the way
I hope you can find something valueble here in.
Ok enought with the Motivation Stuff.
In the next Post I show the concrete steps and what also to keep in mind!
Thanks for reading and best regards
God bless you & you bless all around you :victory:

This guide will help you take your virgin S10 phone to a fully rooted phone running a custom rom.
It is highly recommended that you use an external SD card for this process as the steps has you formatting the internal data a couple of times, so having this on an external SD will keep this all intact.
Also note that MTP to your phone via a PC can get varied results, hence why again using an SD card is recommended as with an adaptor you can plug this straight into your PC and into phone when needed.
You must understand - that you always have to handle the Booting Process manually with the key combinations of Buttons after flashing - else you will have reboots and fails(no twrp etc)!
--Download Latest/your Official Firmware Version (PC)--
• On PC Download Samfirm from the following link: Updato& Sammobile (S10-Example) or search on google
• Extract the zip and run samfirm.exe

• Tick ‘Auto’
• Click Check Update
• It should show you the latest firmware version
• Click Download
• Firmware will download and decrypt (if Decrypt automatically was ticked)
• Default download location (My Documents)
>> • Prepare those Files (Unpack them) and get them on your External SD-Card - you will need them later <<<
--Download ODIN 3.13.1 (PC - FLASHSOFTWARE) --

• You are now done, and your bootloader will now allow ‘Unofficial Images’
--Download Latest TWRP (Phone)--
• On your phone Download the latest TWRP image for your model to the phone external SD card from here
• **NOTE – If you are installing Beyond Rom version 5.3 and onwards then you need to download a minimum of TWRP version 3.3.1-7
• We will need this later….
--Patch Firmware & TWRP File--
• On your PC extract the firmware files (AP, BL, CP and HOME_CSC)
• Copy the AP file to your SD card and enter SD card in your phone

• AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK
HOLD Power + Bixby + Volume Up
KEEP HOLDING THESE KEYS UNTIL YOU SEE THE TWRP LOGO
• If TWRP runs a script and then reboots, immediately hold the same buttons again to get back into TWRP
--Multidisabler and Date Wipe--
• Click Install and select the Multidisabler.zip you downloaded earlier – DO NOT REBOOT
• Back to main menu in TWRP select WIPE>FORMAT DATA and TYPE YES, CLICK TICK BUTTON

• Congratulations you now have Custom rom installed on your S10.
Notes/Tips/Tricks
• Every time you reboot you will need to use the key combo or..
>>> Do this right after the flashing Process - when you it restarts - or better restart manually <<
◦ Hold Power + Bixby + Volume Up to TWRP logo to enter recovery
◦ Hold Power + Bixby + Volume Up until you see the Samsung warning screen for the 2nd time to boot into rooted rom.
When you get Stuck or something doesn't go well - don't worry - you can always flash a patched TWRP by itself!
• Go to Download Mode
• Use a patched TWRP and put it as recovery.img inside a recovery.tar (you create the archive (pack the .img as a .tar instead of .zip) using 7zip or similar)
• After you flashed it successfully and the screen turns dark (your restart)
- you instantly hold VOLup + Bixby + Power Button ( over the first 2 Screens)
- and let go, but hold VOLup down with your finger UNTIL TWRP comes up! - you are safe now! (almost) :silly: :victory:
>>> DO NOT JUST REBOOT AFTER FLASHING - ALWAYS GO BACK & BOOT INTO RECOVERY - SO YOU WILL HAVE ROOT - OTHERWISE NOT! <<
• Edxposed works for Pie and supports some functionality for Samsung phones like:
◦ Removing high volume warning
◦ Removing high brightness warning
◦ Advance power menu (Reboot to recovery, download etc..)
◦ Details can be found here
Here is a Video as well, wich is good to follow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3a8YnWT3yk
But after you did this all in the Video - you need to flash patched TWRP!
I recommend to do it right after the patched AP File - let it stay in downloadload-mode, plug the usb-cable out and back in and flash the recovery.tar!
And you will have TWRP and now you can flash ROMS & BACKUP etc !
TWRP has also has File Manager - you can move/copy folders & files from internal to external etc
ok, well I added everything in orange what else was needed to be said! Wich I had to find out the hard way... and wich saves lots of Time!!
I still not slept for over 42 and wrote all this the last 2 hours, because I was so excited and wanted to give back! (and the Backup goes from internal to external at the same time
I will may add more to this Thread here... I have many tipps & tricks... wich is not so easy to find out first
I wish you all the best with your Rooted Samsung S10 S10+ etc
God bless you & sleep well
Best regards :victory:

Is there a way to root without recovery so you don't trip Knox?
What do you mean advance power menu module , I know only firefds has this option for s series , and this module cause bootloops and apps fc.

Nope, you will always trip knox.
But for me personally, I can't have a device without root & addons etc.
This would give me always a bad feeling of being victim of those big software companies who control my phone almost completely...
I like to have a better standart & not beeing standart

exactly this.
I also used that module.
You need to be really careful what options you use with it. Just add system ui reboot & reboot to recovery and thats all.

Used this module for 2 days , every reboot getting to bootloop and need to force reboot to boot normaly.
Hoping the dev will come back to us and update the module...
Alternatives I use for rebooting:
In Magisk Manager you can go to "Modules" and there in the uper right corner you find a reboot menu.
You can connect your device to a PC and type "adb reboot recovery"
You can install the app "Simple Reboot" via F-Prot.

Thanks mate , never saw this option in magisk:silly:
Also loved the option in firefds to blur qs panel , can't find other module for that..

Are you able to get around (disable) Knox, if so could you please explain the process? Thanks!
2 questions:
1. Is there actually a way to get around tripping Knox?
2. Can rooting be accomplished on US variants? I seem to recall it has always been the Exynos international models that allow for unlocking the bootloader, but not the US based Snapdragon ones. Is that still the case with the S20 the same way it was with the S10?

I have a Canadian s10 build #QP1A.190711.020.G973WVLS3CTA3
WILL THIS WORK FOR ME IF I FOLLOW IT VERY CLOSELY????
I'm really hoping someone who knows better than myself will give me some kind of feedback about rooting my Canadian snapdragon S10. I'm anxious to dig in. But my more cautious side is telling me to wait and see what input I might receive!!??!!??
I'm having a lot of problems with rooting my S10 and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. . . .
it's a G9730 and I downloaded the latest CHC firmware with SamFirm (checked Decrypt automatically) and using Odin 3.14.1
I followed the videos instructions.
After getting the FW, I copied over the AP with Magisk, ran the file patch and copied the tar file to my PC. Went into DL mode and applied just the AP as instructed, then it goes into a boot loop error no matter how many times I try to go into recovery.
I've tried going from the DL mode (vol down/pow) and then hold Bix, volup, power. I've tried letting go of everything but vol up. tried letting go of all of them soon as the logo pops up. tried from turned off. . . . I just can't get into recovery
So unbricked it back to stock and then I tried to do what the text instructions here say and did all the above along with adding TWRP _3.3.1-9beyondl1te image patch and swapping it with the recover in the patched tar. As per the instructions, I applied the BL, CP, and CSC from the original firmware along with the AP with the TWRP recovery and then it gets even weirder. . . . it gets to the screen with the yellow exclamation mark and red text. . . but has all the stuff from DL mode overlaid above it. . . . it wasn't rebooting on it's own at this point and I had to voldown/pow to shut down and it wouldn't boot back into 'normal' DL mode but kept returning to this screen . I had to try running Odin on it a once or twice, and fail, for it to finally boot back into 'normal' DL mode.
So, at the moment I've unbricked it back to unmolested. . . and have no idea what to do.
I've included an image of what that screen looks like that I was talking about. Also, not sure if this means anything, but the DL mode has a barcode at the bottom. . . and I've never seen this before or in any examples/tuts/videos. . . .

Same problem here. did it today and it goes to a boot loop. Any help?
bump . . . ?
Thank you so much for this wonderful detailed post! I was extremely lost at where to start before this post!
Hi
I have followed the steps thoroughly and I can access TWRP but once I did the flash/wipes and choose reboot recovery, it still boots into TWRP and not into the rooted Android. Also Power+volup+bixby until 2nd warning leads to TWRP and not rooted system.
I can boot the device on the OS with power on but then I do not have root with Magisk.
S10+ with Android 10
Any advice is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Metropolis

hm, few weeks ago i tested an older version (lineage-17.1-20200309-UNOFFICIAL-treble_arm64_bvN), which worked (i mean it booted, can be set), but auto brightness didn't work, dual SIM card support was missing, MTP didn't worked and after that i went to original sammy ROM... if you are willing to try this one, report here please if any of my findings were corrected (dual SIM card support is crucial for me, so if this one correctly recognizes and uses both of them a will give this one a shot again), thanks....
Work with china version sm m3070zcu2asl2 ?
