Help upgrading to Alien! - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, so Ive been out of the country for about a month and came back to an overwhelming amount of roms and upgrades.
so Im running the leaked Hong Kong version back when it was the first 2.3.4 to release and flashed it using fastboot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092)
i never upgraded to .91 but Im running the new radio and romracer CWM.
to upgrade to Alien, can i simply flash it using cwm even though im running the really buggy 2.3.4 from a month ago, or should i upgrade to the official .91? i held back from doing that because of the hard brick problem
im familiar with fastboot and adb commands but I just need a quick step by step to get from where i am to running alien or any 2.3.4 based rom
thanks!

Since your already unlocked and have RomRacers CWM installed, I'd just flash 2.3.4 fruitcake, to get to a more stable version of 2.3.4 first.... like sbf flashing, but without the need for RSD lite.

flashing to a less buggy .91 can never hurt. ever. ever.
ever.

How to return to stock firmware from 2.3.4?

So Im running the the first leaked 2.3.4 Chinese version I installed using flashboot after unlocking my BL.
With all the hard bricks with the ota I'd rather wait for an official release or Cm7 but this version barely gets me 5 hrs of battery use and is way too buggy to use every day.
So what is the method I should use to get this phone back to the current stock version? Should I just flash the 1.26 sbf? Or will that hardbrick me?

Can you please link me the thread you used to download + install this version?
Cheers

Did that after pudding.
Nobody knows?
You could try the fruit cakes flash to 1.8.3, or maybe kenneth penn's gingerbread. I am getting "normal" battery life on beta 4.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159385
Its working well for me so far.
Im running kens beta 4.5 and used the task manager to autoend certain programs and I get great battery life. Better battery life than any other ROM I've ever used.

[Q] flash att 2.3.4 over HKTW?

I am still on the older HKTW 2.3.4 and now that the newer ATT leaked 2.3.4 is out there i would like to know the best way to flash it? And by best i mean safest . I know there have been a lot of bricked atrix's, so any help is greatly appreciated!
Additional info:
I have installed Clockwork recovery
I have rooted it
Thanks
The best way is to use Ken's cwm zip. The danger is in updating using the orange pulled from moto servers and then trying to sbf back to an earlier build.
Ken's rom and Dorian's red pill rom are both fantastic.
Edit: This assumes you have the unlocked CWM, which I would guess is the case since you are on HKTW.

so can i just flash dorians redpill over my hktw 2.3.4, because he says you can do it if you are already on 2.3.4 but i am not sure if it will only work if you are on Kenns 2.3.4. WOuld the safest method be to flash back to 1.8.3, then unlock the bootloader and flash back to kenns 2.3.4 then to dorians redpill?

[Q] Flash a custom rom on Atrix UK with old baseband. HELP!

Hello, i'm italian so sorry for my poor english...!!!
I have an atrix ORANGE UK, already rooted and unlocked with gingerbreak.
On my phone i read:
system version 4.1.31.MB860 Orange.en.gb
Android 2.2.2
Baseband n_01.86.00r (not the latest)
Webtop ver
Oshwt_u1_6.34.0
Buld
OLYEM_U4_1.3.1
1- I want to flash a custom rom, like the INTL Darkside 2.0, but i read that the faux123's kernel is optimized for the latest baseband....is it right?
And what will happen if i flash a not INTL rom (or just after i don't flash the fixed kernel)?
2- If i check for updates an alert inform me that a 40mb OTA update is available for download...have i to install it or will it brick my phone...???
3-So what have i to do before i can flash safely?
That's my 1st android phone after 7 years with windows mobile....and i have flashed several time various WM phones.
i read A LOT of threads on this forum but i'm VERY confused...too much informations mixed from AT&T e INTL......
Thanks a lot!!
Mirko
Don't worry about the baseband. As long as you are bootloader unlocked and you flash a kernel that is international and tegra part identifying.
Darkside does flash the fight kernel by itself so you can go ahead. I believe that the update is safe(not certain though) but is unnecessary if you are going to flash a rom

Thanks a lot!!!
Now i'm going to try to flash the Darkside rom...i will let you know!

Question about bootstrap

Is bootstrap recovery the same as clockwork recovery? Are they one and the same?
Also I'm on kernal 2.3.4 do I have to do anything special if I want to load a 2.3.5 rom?
Sorry I'm new to playing around with motorola phones.
I thought they were the same when I first started hacking my phone. But it turns out they are not the same.
As for updating your phone to 2.3.5, if you are on stock 2.3.4, all you need to do is root your phone, install bootstrap recovery and flash the 2.3.5 ROM using bootstrap recovery.
There is a nice guide someone put together in the dev. Section.

Basically, yes - those recoveries a almost the same. They are both used in the same way, which is to backup/restore, wipe data and flash a ROM. So there's no real difference.
As for the 2.3.4 kernel. SOME people can get away with flashing a 2.3.5 based ROM on their 2.3.4, others can't. Either way, I'd recommend just updating to 2.3.5 to safe. Plus (to me), 2.3.5 seems smoother and faster.
To Update to 2.3.5, just download the update.zip from here: http://www.multiupload.com/0ZT7FTOW0R
This is just the update file, so all you need to do is flash that, but I won't get into much about that.
If you need a guide on updating it, then you can look at this one right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391824
That's the one I used.
Ok so I'm currently on Molten 2.2 wich is a 2.3.4 romand was looking at liberty rom wich is 2.3.5 rom. So all I would need to do is just clear the needed data and flash it like any other rom?
The reason for asking about if it was clockwork was because in one of the roms the instructions says to use clockwork and I never saw a like to clockwork in the dev section
Yes I looked in the stickies first and these were just the questions that popped up that I didn't see the answer to it. I may have just over looked it but I figured I would ask before I borked my phone lol
looks like while I was writing a responce some one answered lol thank you all for your help
U don't need to root to install 2.3.5
It is signed by moto so we can flash in stock recovery
(actually that's how you SHOULD FLASH 2.3.5)
And our BSR is a hacked/ported cwm
To update to 2.3.5 you WILL need to be STOCK (you CAN be rooted but it will take away root when u flash it....just root again with zergrush...)

Just so you know, Liberty is a 2.3.4 rom. Have a look at the OP in that thread. If you're on Molten, just wipe data and cache and you should be set.

[Q] Flash to stock

UPDATE
I just flashed the latest 2.3.6 sbf. Everything went fine. So it seems either I guessed right, or you can flash the newer ones no problem.
