[Q] Flash a custom rom on Atrix UK with old baseband. HELP! - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i'm italian so sorry for my poor english...!!!
I have an atrix ORANGE UK, already rooted and unlocked with gingerbreak.
On my phone i read:
system version 4.1.31.MB860 Orange.en.gb
Android 2.2.2
Baseband n_01.86.00r (not the latest)
Webtop ver
Oshwt_u1_6.34.0
Buld
OLYEM_U4_1.3.1
1- I want to flash a custom rom, like the INTL Darkside 2.0, but i read that the faux123's kernel is optimized for the latest baseband....is it right?
And what will happen if i flash a not INTL rom (or just after i don't flash the fixed kernel)?
2- If i check for updates an alert inform me that a 40mb OTA update is available for download...have i to install it or will it brick my phone...???
3-So what have i to do before i can flash safely?
That's my 1st android phone after 7 years with windows mobile....and i have flashed several time various WM phones.
i read A LOT of threads on this forum but i'm VERY confused...too much informations mixed from AT&T e INTL......
Thanks a lot!!
Mirko

Don't worry about the baseband. As long as you are bootloader unlocked and you flash a kernel that is international and tegra part identifying.
Darkside does flash the fight kernel by itself so you can go ahead. I believe that the update is safe(not certain though) but is unnecessary if you are going to flash a rom

Thanks a lot!!!
Now i'm going to try to flash the Darkside rom...i will let you know!

[Q] International Atrix Unlock/Root/ROM Steps.. is what i understand correct?

hi, so im actually planning on buying a motorola Atrix me860 here in Taiwan..
after a LOT of reading in these forums, im still not that confident in the steps that i have to go through in order to get a functional unlocked, rooted, custom rom'ed GB Atrix.. so here is what i have learned from my "research"
1. first, i have to unlock the BL by installing IHOP via fastboot (im guessing this is regardless of what stock intl firmware or if it is froyo or gb)
2. after that, i root my device by fastboot using the method in the 2nd post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
3. then, this is where i get a bit lost, in order to fix the ram issue found in unlocked international users, i need to flash the rom 2.3.4 OrangeFR system image, 2.3.4 OrangeFRwebtop image, and the corresponding tegrapart boot image
now, what if i want to install a different custom rom, like the cherry pie or alien, along with faux's kernel, do i just flash them over the Orange FR via CWM, and if so, do i still retain the ram fix? or does it only work with the OrangFR rom?
help will be greatly appreciated

You can install any kernel you want. Check out Faux's thread, he has stock kernels and unified overclocked ones for which you don't need to worry about tegrapart.

Yes it does, I think it does even more by reallocating it.

oh.. okay..
so do i still need flash the rom 2.3.4 OrangeFR system image, 2.3.4 OrangeFRwebtop image, and the corresponding tegrapart boot image?
or do i just go directly to flashing alien/cherry rom and then faux kernel (which you say will also fix the ram issue)?
Nope you have to flash the faux's kernel first and then you can install quite any rom you want like cherry or alien.
Flashing to the kernel will make it international ect... not the rom (correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think so) so you have to flash the kernel first.
ooohhh, okay okay, i think that's right, thank you
sooo, i have to flash the orange fr stuff, then faux's kernel, then any intl custom rom?
which app did u root with me860. im on HK version

newbie. best rom?

hi i just bought my phone last week an I've already experienced some lag even though there's not much apps installed. so now i want to try a custom rom. what rom would be the best for first timers thanks..
If you have 2.2 installed (old baseband) than andy's phoenix rom is the best.
Grab it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909242
If you have 2.3 (new baseband) than you should go for Ginger LOL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1118685
hi, thanks for the reply. baseband is the version of android im currently using right? im using 2.3.3. but the link for ginger lol says page is not found. i'll try to search for it in the forums. thanks.

baseband is not the android version. i wrote up a small thing on baseband here.
here is the link for ginger lol (the link in post two is actually the right link except for the four dots):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118685
in my opinion, i would use andy's phoenix rom. follow these instructions:
a) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15309588&postcount=2
b) also, since you are currently using official gingerbread (2.3.3), you need to downgrade your baseband version, instructions found here
thanks for the info man. as i've read, most roms will eventually support the new baseband. so i think, im gonna wait a little longer for that. one more thing though. i though when i install rom, the kernel comes along with it, but as i read it seems that i need to flash my kernel too? thanks for your help.
phoenix rom comes with franco's .35 kernel preinstalled
There's no need to install other kernel.
roms using old baseband is never going to support new baseband...
DUDE I prefer, no need to root your stock rom for installing custom rom.
follow http://lg-p500-optimusone.blogspot.com/ if u want this.
note : I didnt try this but this should work

[Q] completely stock 2.3.6 ROM anywhere??

So many threads that I cannot find it. I am currently unlocked on nottachtrix 1.2.9b but it keeps restarting my phone randomly so I want to flash a completely stock ROM, can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks guys!
searching dev forum returned this list of firmwares http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944. Find your country/carrier and go for it.
As an alternative, I have used Aura (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186990) and was better than stock for me and includes webtop.
If you feel adventurous again, try miui-us V4 2.3.16 also in the dev forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383721).
Hope I was able to help
Check the Fruitcake thread, stock roms are there.

You said your atrix is unlocked (or are you on Atrix2 since you mention Supercharged A2?), then root, install romracer's cwm for atrix and use cwm to reset, clear data and cache, then flash a rom of your choice.
All available in the dev section.

I don't have any issues with 1.29b. Maybe flash romracers recovery, do a complete wipe, and flash 1.29b directly.

Downgrading the version risk bricking. I soft bricked mine when I went from 2.3.6(prior to a few ROMs) to 2.3.4.
I would:
Fastboot -w
RSD Lite flash 2.3.6 from //sites.google.com/site/motosbf/atrix-sbf-files (Sorry, I don't have enough posts to be allow to make links)
I found this on one of the topics here:
//dropbox.com/s/eps7ldsn9n5sqlc/At%26t 236-45-141_deodexed.zip
copy after // because I can't post links.
I'm yet to try it on my Atrix but will do very soon

i have statusbar issues with that one...
I fixed the restarts by flashing the 2.3.6 sbf (not pudding), and I left it like that... no more unlock since I believe that was the issue. Every ROM I tried had the same results

Yes. You can download the 2.3.6 fruitcake from fruitcake backup thread and flash via CWM. Then the 2.3.6 webtop and flash via CWM. Remember to perform a full wipe first.

Please read here... This thread should answer most of your questions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1720457
If you are wanting to upgrade to Froyo but are not sure about playing with custom roms, due to fear of bricking, etc... just do a factory upgrade to GB via Kies... no risk in doing so... and if anything was to go wrong, it's Samsung factory upgrade so you should be covered via warranty.
If you are brave enough to venture into custom roms, there are few options available for you. GB roms are pretty safe... no need for pre work... just download the custom GB roms and flash using Odin3... most of these roms will work for both US & INT versions of the players, provided that you flash the right kernel. Anyway... do some reading. Good luck...
Also, if you flash a kernel first, you can make a nandroid backup which can take you back to froyo.

Not really afraid of trying out custom roms i just feel the need to do a full backup before diving in in case something screw up but cant find any guide for doing so
i tried kies but it seems like mea models are not having GB updates from sammy
Flashing the kernel seems like a good idea but is it rom dependent let say rj custom kernel for intl version will it work on froyo assuming it is from GB (not sure)
Again i want to do a full backup before trying things up
Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA
Kernel version is independent of android version. I believe both yp-g70 kernels are based on the source thar Samsung released with froyo anyways.

If you want to install a different kernal, I recommend u to use Entropy512's kernal and when you flash, use an older version of super one click because you need to root it.

[Q] what is my atrix 4g status?

Thank you for the answer for the old question.
I want to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167927 this.
I have epinter CM10.1 now.
What I need to do?
Do I need just enter the CWM and wiped everything and then flash the zip file?
or I need to do something more?
OLD:
I rooted my device with some quick root tool. (I don't remember where I found the guild).
I have unlocked my bootloader too. (I don't really remember but I think I made that with a guild from androidadvices. His title is :"How to Unlock Motorola Atrix 4G Mobile Phone")
My device is bought from ORANGE. (I think that I belong to Bell's group of ROMs. not AT&T).
I have flashed CM10 by epinter and then CM10.1 by epinter.
Now I want to give the phone to my little brother and I want to flash a ROM with all the webtop apps and blur apps.
I want a ROM with the minimum bugs. I prefer based of official 2.3.6 ROM
What ROM can you suggest me?
Do I need to do some changes with the phone before wipeing everything in the CWM and flashing ROMs ?
Thanks ahead.
This is based on 2.3.6 and is an updated version of a rom that many of us used for a long time as our daily driver.
