Hey all,
First of all, sorry if this question has been asked and answered many times :s
I just got the notification for the Gingerbread 4.5.91 en.US, and was wondering its worth updating to normally, or going about some other way?
I'm currently running a stock Atrix (no rooting or anything) on 4.1.83.
What are the pros and cons in updating to the newer update (4.5.91 en.US) via motorola, compared to another way?
In future i would also like to mess around with my phone (side-loading apps, themes etc), so please take this into account.
Thanks to those who reply

Hey guys,
I have a Vibrant on Tmo, so dont know too much about things on the Fascinate. On my Vibrant Im rooted and have fun with different roms. My friend has a Fascinate and is not rooted and does not really want to. He has kind of been on the fence with his experience with Android on the Fascinate, but I kept telling him it would get better when 2.2 got sent.
So he finally got the OTA 2.2 update and now he says its buggy. for example he said that after the update when he opened the camera app, it would just close and give him an error; but that issue has kind of resolved itself. he said those types of bugs and that when he unlocks the screen, sometimes it just kind of freezes...
So Im trying to keep him on android. He is not rooted and does not want to be, so what should I do to help him? Do a factor data reset to start with a clean slate? If so, what will he loose; all apps, pictures,...ect?
thanks
Do a hard reset and he will lose apps not pictures, also make sure he syncs Google contacts before resetting so he won't lose contacts

4.5.x? That's pretty old hat. Even Apple are at 5.1. Why not try version 15?

Issues with ATRIX
Its probably A bad flash!... specially if it was OTA (over the air) <---bricked two phones with OTA upgrades... On another note I have owned my M-Atrix-4g, sense there release and never has is played well with any of the blur based roms (stock/custom)....random reboots, force closes, overheats and so on...Probably should have returned it back then... but to excited to farther my self from samsung....Ether way!! reading close to every post about the atrix on xda I stepped into the cm7 experience and my phone has thanked me....
Ya first off your dont have ios on your phone tha what the first couple post were giveing you hell about lol.
But for sure you should look into relfashing the stock rom or moveing to a custom rom suck as CM7 talked about above. Personally moveing to cm7 would be the best for you. but that is not a real easy task for someone that has never done much with phones (i am assuming your new to all this by refering to ios on your atrix no offence ment here) but there is a nob guide in the general section were you can lear everything you need to know about how to do eaither method i have stated just make sure you read it 3 to 4 times before you dive in and try to understand as much as possible by searching for answer to question that you will have
good luck
Hi all, after some advice from fellow S2 owners...
Okay, so I have a UK sim free galaxy S2 which I recently updated to ICS with the OTA update, and it looks great but man it drains the battery!. Anyways Ive always thought about doing my first root and trying another rom, and after this update it has made me think about it more- so I have a few Q's:
1. Obviously warranty springs to mind, I know you can reflash back to stock etc, but what happens if I drop 'my precious' and the screen cracks and I cant use the display to flash back before claiming on insurance?!! is there a way where I can just plug the S2 into USB and control the whole thing from the PC? basically, is there a failsafe plan of some sort??
2. MIUI has always caught my eye, does anyone use the ICS version day in, day out and is it now reliable and fully functional now the official ICS sources are out?
3. How dows MIUI ICS / Cyanogen compare to Stock rooted ICS for speed & battery life?
4. Do many of you use custom kernels? and if so which have proved good for your build?
Thanks in advance - just narrowing down my options and any info & advice will be much appreciated...
Cheers
Vis.
bump... any advice?
Hi,
looking for a newer ROM which supports WEBTOP and maybe includes the Debian Webtop mode (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1093790).
Sorry, my Atrix was not used in the last half a year or so, so did not follow the Atrix development, but have to check what is possible currently
What is very important:
- finger print reader security
- webtop
- maybe a newer version of Firefox in Webtop?
Thanks for any hint
Apparently nottachtrix is very very good although it is now discontinued.
Also questions may be better answered in Q and A.

I would suggest a stable Motorola gingerbread based Atrix Rom with ubuntop.

Without a doubt go with nottachtrix, and flash 2.3.6 webtop from fruitcakes thread. From there you have a base for anything you want to do.

I have the same questions, would it be ok for me to install ubuntop without install the 2.3.6 fruitcake webtop? I just installed notachatrix. Thanks!
O.k. thanks for your feedback.
Notachtrix v1.30 I installed already some 3/4 year or more ago.
But unfortuntely it's not possible to use it as stable as expected.
I am not sure if it's only my phone (hardware issue or maybe only the carrier SIM?) or in general.
Mainly after moving to another carrier here in Germany the phone reboots different time every day (without specific reasons or circumstances), so the idea was to check the phone again with another ROM, so I have the confirmation the phone is working...
Just now after starting the phone while writing this post it reboots different times without having a SIM inserted
Maybe I have to reinstall and check with a complete vanilla phone again....
Want to use it as a second phone so, its not too important.
Best regards

Hi, strange, I never had that... Did you try different kernels, like Mmontuori or Faux123 ?
Hi guys,
I have an Atrix Bell, with baseband N_01.26.00R, stock kernel and tegrapart=mbr00:100:800.
I tried flash some ICS, like epinter's and somebody's rom, but I got reboots with both using SD card, and noticed overheating and fast discharging. So, I got back to Gingerbread (Topsmarts) some weeks ago.
Then, I'd like to know what is actually the best ICS and JB roms, able to daily use.
Thanks!

Please use search next time. Threads like this are not allowed on XDA, and also this question has been asked and answered countless times. (In short, there is no such thing as a "best ROM").
