[Q] gray screen not boot/no recovery mode - HTC EVO 3D

I woke up this morning to a evo 3d that won't turn on. It freezes up and there is a gray screen that I can't get pass. The phone won't even go into recover mode. Nothing happens when I hold the down volume button and the power button. I tired everything I can think of. I called sprint tech support and they couldn't help. I was told to take it to the sprint store. Any advice?

I know you said you tried everything you can think of, but did you remove the battery and put it back in? If you turned off fast boot in the settings and turn off the E3D, it doesn't turn back on until you remove the battery and put it back in. This is a problem for all Evos as I got a replacement for that reason and it did the same thing.
If it doesn't turn on after removing the battery and putting it back in, try doing that again except try going into the HBOOT menu after putting the battery back in. (VolumeDown + Power)
If this doesn't work, go to a sprint store. Having a gray screen isn't normal.

yea, i tried removing the battery and going into Hboot. I can't get into Hboot. only a gray screen shows up.

Did you S-OFF or use HTC Bootloader Unlock on your phone phone?
If not, the software is covered under warranty so if you take it to a sprint store, they'll fix it up.

Yea I'm rooted. The phone won't even turn on so sprint may not know. They order a replacement me that will be here in a few days. Will we see what happens.

Oh yeah, I forgot that it won't even turn on. Yep, just go to them and tell them your problems and they should replace it.
There is one thing though - If you used HTC's Bootloader Unlock to root it, it may be in their database that you used it. I'm not sure, though. I wish you best of luck.

Two days ago I flashed a new kernel. Maybe it didn't agree with my phone and messed it up.

Probably, that's why I like to stick with the stock kernel. It may not be that great but it is stable.

Yea, I'm defiantly sticking with stock kernel from now on!

i wouldn't think flashing a kernel would affect you be able to boot into the boot loader. maybe the phone just took a dump. it happens. if it won't start up then the sprint guys won't even look at it. they'll just take it and give you a refurb one. at least that's what happened last time i had to get a replacement. just make sure you your sdcard cause a replacement will prob just be a phone, with no accessories.

The evo's screen looks gray and snowy like the tv on that movie "The Ring". Its kinda creepy.

Samsung Vibrant Will Not Turn on at ALLL!!!! PLEASE HELP!!

Hey before I say anything at all I would appreciate all your help and I have looked everywhere and found no answer. My phone was working perfectly, until I got a T-Mobile update on my phone. I confirmed it and downloaded it. The update reset my phone to a white screen with a blue loading bar. I left it alone couple minutes later I get the phone and click the turn on button and nothing happens at all. The phone does absolutely nothing. It will not power on at all.
1. Pull battery
2. Pull sim
3. Pull sdcard
4. Plug in USB cord
5. Hold Vol+/Vol- and power button simultaneously.
6. Put battery back in and let go of power button when screen goes black after seeing the battery charge icon.
7. Search for Odin and 2.1 stock files.
8. Odin back to 2.1 Stock.
I tried that and it didn't work. even when i plug in the phone nothing happens. The phone does absolutely nothing at all. I don't think it could be the hardware because the phone was working perfectly.. Until I did the tmobile update.
so basically no buttons are lighting up? doesnt do the charging battery icon when plugged in without battery? if not go to tmobile slap the person behind the counter with you phone and politely ask for another.

What update and what Vibrant phone, the 4g?
Enzozenuni, sell me your vibrant.
Nothing Lights up. I installing the stock firmware. I know its not hardware or it can't be. I have the box and everything and the phone is in perfect condition.
If Tmobiles update bricked your phone, just tell them that and get a replacement. For all the people here who abuse the replacement system, you're one of the few here with a legitimate case. I've seen people here who've literally had their phone replaced six times due to THEIR idiotic mistakes. So you should have no trouble getting one.
Corrupted bootloader most likely...you're not gonna be fixing it with Odin. Take it to T-Mo.

I just sold a water damaged one open and honest for $150 so I don't know where you are getting your numbers from unless your basis is from the upgrade or new contract price from t-mobile and I have also sold one that does not power on for $210 so they sell pretty good. I think his $200 is a fair price for the condition it's in

[Q] Help! I think my sh*t is bricked...

I tried to turn it on and all I get is a vertical line that fades from gray to blue to red. It buzzes like it's coming on and then... nothing. Anyone else had this problem?
edit: I also can't get into the recovery menu
First. What did you do or try to do to it?

Sorry, I'm having a borderline panic attack...
I wasn't doing anything to it at the time - It had gone dead and I plugged it in to charge when I got home. After maybe 10 min I tried to power it up and I got the weird vertical line on the right side of the screen. I have tried battery pulls, I tried charging it fully then turning it on. I can't boot into the hboot menu. It is 100% stock, s-on. I haven't even tried temp-root on it. I'm trying to run an RUU but it keeps giving a usb error
don't try fixing this yourself! Take it back to an authorized Sprint repair store ASAP.
First of all relax, most bricks are reversible - but indeed some are not and hence you are panicking. Well if you followed the instructions as mentioned in the thread 99.9% things should have not gone wrong. But now that they have - you either need to figure out at what step did they go wrong - and what step before that step you did something wrong.
If nothing works - then run to your operator.
I took it in to Sprint. The rep was literally outraged that my phone was broke. Said it was ridiculous that I should have to come down there after only having my phone 2 weeks. Gave me a brand new one in the box, no questions asked. FYI - they said they hadn't had any other reports of similar issues and hadn't seen it before. It was just a white line down the right side of the screen and wouldn't do anything else.
Glad to hear Sprint is keeping the a good face...especially in this locked hboot era...just try not to break this one
Good to know that, and good on Sprint's part as well. Please read well before doing something tothis one.
Seriously. I didn't do anything to it. It is bone stock. I didn't accept a new OTA. I didn't drop it, get it wet, or try to run unrEVOked. I haven't even tried to run frEvo. How can I bootloop my phone?

I need to get this phone in a bootloop.

Have fin finding one without it I would say over 90% have it
If you don't have an Evo3d well ...
just flash multiple roms without clearing caches and dalvik.... should bootloop for ya
That's bull. Tell them its a hardware defect and means the screen is improperly sealed.
That's a fine reason to take it back.

I also have this problem that when I go into teamwin recovery my search button has a dim light on it while all the other buttons are not lit on. I'm talking about the capacitive buttons at the bottom.
Do you think If I show a sprint employee that screen it will raise a flag or are they too stupid to know?
Also, I was thinking of just flashing a ROM and midway through the 1st boot I just battery pull. Does that sound like it would loop me?

If you don't have an Evo3d well ...
I have seen many threads asking how to get OUT of a bootloop, but NEVER have I seen one trying to get INTO a bootloop. lmao. So you're going to get yourself into a bootloop, and take it in rooted, with S-off and all? I wonder how well that will go over. They'll be like,"oh look, it has a software problem because it's bootlooping. Oh look at that, this thing has S-off and super user installed, guess no software warranty on this thing.". The reason I say you'd be taking it in with S-off and super user is because you'd need that to flash something to get you stuck in a bootloop....and if you unrooted it and turned it back to s on before you brought it in, that would mean you had to run an RUU, which would at the same time fix the bootloops! LOL Just demand they replace it for the light leakage, rather than intentionally trying to make it bootloop. That is the funniest **** I've seen all day!

That light over your search button is light leakage. The other buttons are supposed to be off while you're in recovery. Just deal with it. I have that problem and many other people do as well.
I don't know why you're so worried about light leakage. It really isn't a big deal. There is no point in taking your phone back for this. You're just screwing the rest of us in the long run.
It's not just light leakage. Ever since I took the OTA I get random reboots, even tho I'm using SupraROM. I'm within my 30 days, they have to give me a new one.i just tell them that doing the OTA the battery died.
Take a leak on your phone. Lightly.

[Q] Pixelated screen and repair question using CM10.1.

So last night, my phone decided that it would no longer like me to use it. The screen is a full screen of (for lack of a better term) rainbow snow. It is pixelated. I can't see anything except the snow. I have gotten it to show my lock screen by kind of tweaking the phone by bending slightly. When I get the lock screen, the touch screen no longer works. I can hit the power button to turn the screen off, and then again to only get the snow. I am thinking it's probably a hardware issue. I haven't dropped it or gotten it wet. Which leads me to my next question. I am rooted and running CM 10.1. I can't get in to recovery mode to restore to a stock ROM. If I take it in to Sprint for repair/replacement will they have a way of seeing I am running a ROM and decide they wont't work on my phone?

Is it possible that you CAN get into recovery and you just don't know it because you can't see it? Work with me here.
If you can power down the phone, try powering up into bootloader/fastboot and try to flash an appropriate RUU from fastboot/usb. Just a shot in the dark...

I pretty much have no idea what to do now. My phone won't mount the SD card on any computer. The phone recognizes the SD card, i just wont mount it. When trying to use RUU i just get the error 170. So, i guess i will be dropping my phone off at sprint and hope for the best.
Same issue. Was running Carbon which is cm based. Tried everything, nothing worked. Took it to the Sprint store yesterday and they got me a refurbished LTE. I'm thinking of getting the HTC one but can't afford it right now. Refurb phone works alright so I'll just keep it for know but I know what you're going through. it sucks and although the ROM worked awesome it may have been the culprit.

The tech thought it was a connection issue with the display, but he couldn't get it fixed and thinks the motherboard went bad. They are replacing the phone with a new one, but they are backordered so I have to wait a week.
Yeah but what caused all of our phones to have the same issue that doesn't exist on sense roms? Kernel overpowering the motherboard causing it to fry?

No there is not at this moment.. sad to say.. There is one option but it might cost you about a $100.. You could look online for a 4.1.2 motherboard for i605, the specific model.. it very simple to swap out..took me only about 15 mind and I have never done it before.. If your not comfortable PM me and I can recommend someone you can send it to that guarantees their work/parts for 3 months.. good luck man!:good:

I've already sealed it up in the return envelope, but I'll cut it open for a chance to run a custom recovery and better root. I just don't think I can last a full year before my contracts up.

I'm thinking I must have messed up a ribbon cable by accident. The insurance company is going to send me a new one, and I'll just keep the locked bootloader and "saferoot" so I can use Titanium Backup and Rom Toolbox.
