NAM Optimus one data speeds - Optimus One, P500, V General

I'm currently using the Prime ROM on a Telus Optimus One. I've noticed that on both a Bell and Rogers SIM, the downstream speeds max out at about 1.4 mbps even though the networks are capable of better.
Is this a hardware limitation of the phone, or is there perhaps a different ROM/radio I could flash to improve my HSPA speeds? Thanks!

The same Bell SIM card in an unlocked ATT MiFi hotspot just completely flies, 5766 kbps downstream, 1483 upstream. So definitely the phone is limited but I wonder if it's the hardware or software.

Bump! Nobody has anything to add here?

AFAIK, the ROM/Kernel also plays a part in the network data speeds. The latest franco kernel has improved the data speeds by a huge margin. So the ROM/kernel has a part to play.

Okay, so if there is *one* ROM/kernel combination that has superior HSDPA data speeds, what would it be? I am certainly up for trying it out. I don't know if anything will be different with my Telus P500h versus the T-Mobile or Euro/Asian versions.

Try Mik 6.5.7/Franco 19.3(.32 kernel) combination. Or Mik 6.6.1/Latest Franco's .35 kernel.
The network tweaks are present in both the .32 and the .35 kernels, though the .35 kernel is a testing release as of now.

For the record I tried flashing Franco's latest 2.6.53.45 kernel over the ROM I am already using. Data speeds are still almost exactly the same. I got 1499 down / 363 up before flashing, 1499 down / 365 up after.

What is the ROM u're using?
Also the latest franco .35 kernel is found here and it is 2.6.35.14.
The v19.3 kernel is found here and it is 2.6.32.45. I assume that you're using this one.
[EDIT]: Saw the first post and you're using Prime ROM. Not sure whether franco's v19.3 is 100% compatible with your ROM.

Prime is an LG-based modded Froyo ROM. It seemed to be stable when I booted it after installing the kernel.
I meant 2.6.32.45 - yes, that one.
Your first link goes to the LG V20B update, not to a kernel.

Thanks for pointing out, changed the link now.
As for the ROM, I would suggest that you check with people who're using the Prime ROM, as I've not used it till now.

the best modem for a rom???

I want to know of all the modems out there wich one is the best for a rom??
look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9734167&postcount=1
there is not the best modem yet imho, nothing is perfect, but for froyo (2.2) many found that ka5 modem is the most efficient, reliable and fast so far.. modem performance can vary depending on where you are, how good your signal strengths is, what kinds of interference there may be.. so on. try flashing each one yourself - it's pretty quick - and see which one works best for you

sorry i misunderstood and thought you were just looking for all the modems out there- as i edited in my post i think you should really try each one for yourself.. people get various results no matter how new the modem may be.. i got bad results from the initial bionix-v with ka7 modem. no luck with kb1 either. but as soon as i updated to bionix-v v1.2 that comes with ka5 modem, my download/upload speed over 3g and wifi picked up again

Thanks the thing is im from Puerto Rico, and where im at right now i dont have 3g cause the towers arent near, so im judging most of the rom from my wifi signal and of course quality of sound voice, apps, etc etc, with every rom. So that's why im trying to find something that could give my phone the boost to work great

off topic but i wanna talk a bit about sound quality.. i just can't wait to see tw implementing the kernel eugene is testing right now. because of the source code eugene came up with he was able to add support for voodoo sound v4 which will significantly boost sound quality of our handsets. i read hundreds of pages of discussions in i9000 forum regarding supercurio's voodoo lagfix/sound projects, and only heard good things about it although i have not yet tried eugene's kernel myself amidst fear for messing up and being lazy. hopefully teamwhiskey will release a new stable version of bionix with eugene's froyo 2.2.1 kernel with voodoo sound.. it's so exciting already!

[Q] OTA update, slower speed

So I updated to the latest OTA and noticed my 3g speed is less than half of what it was before and its been like that for a couple weeks now. I know its not a network issue because I activated the incredible just to see what the speed was on it and its at 1.2 Mbps like always. Anybody else seen the issue? Is there a way to keep the official froyo but downgrade to an older radio and see if that solves the problem?
are you on a custom kernel now vs before?
reason I ask is the rwin... most of the custom kernels have the rwin changed from samsung defaults (which is really low) to a number that all other android devices have...

I've been on a custom kernel pretty much ever since I've had the phone. What is rwin, in dumbed down terms? Maybe I'll go back to the stock kernel and see what happens. Another question or two, isn't the kernel in the boot? Why doesn't cwm backup the boot on the fascinate? It does on the incredible which makes it alot easier to go back to the stock kernel or a known working kernel if I flash a kernel my phone doesn't like.

Nemesis2all. Filename is 0409-OTB-cwm2.5xx.
This probably wont help you but I have my fascinate on alltel and im experiencing the same problems . Only thing that will fix it is my changing my prl through qpst and flashing a new modem . But then it will go back to half speed after a hour or two.im going to go all the way back to stock and see what happens

I tried five different kernels including the stock one with no difference so I'm gonna say it isn't a kernel issue. I think I'm gonna go back to 2.1 and see what happens.
Went all the way back to 2.1 and still the same thing. Updated to 2.1.1 with ea28 radio like I had before all this started and still the same. Maybe it is a network issue but it's funny how the incredible was getting the usual 3g speeds.

[Q] Overclocking on PlaneJane v3

Ok so I'm on plane Jane v3 , which is like the stock mr2 Rom, only for root users. Now every once in a while it feels a bit slow. So I tried overclocking it with the latest and greatest imoseyon kernel, it worked but it made 3g unusable. The3g signal is there, but there's no connection, although 1x does work on cdma only. Then I tried drods kernel that overclocks to 1.8 ghz, its an old version but also had the same problem.
My question is, do you guys know of any overclocked kernels that work on this Rom, I would be on perfect storm 1.5 but the link is broken, and doesn't look like it will ever be fixed.
I know you can't post links but names would be appreciated

Again, link, broken, me, screwed
If I'm not mistaken, you cannot use kernals with the leaked MR2 or the official OTA that came out in early july, they don't have the actual source code yet. You have to use the stock kernal thats built into MR2. This is the cause of your radio issues.

3g faster on sense 4 roms?

I noticed my 3g speeds were about double or better immediately after i flashed a sense 4 rom (one shot). Up to this point i was leery of using a rom with no wimax, but this changed my mind. Has anyone else seen increased speeds that's running a sense 4 rom?

I haven't noticed any 3G speed increases. The closest 4G tower is a hour away, so I can't comment on that. As far as overall speed though, it's probably entirely dependent on the ROM. I went back to a GB based ROM (Mean 4.5) because it seems faster and more stable than the ICS ROMS I've used.

Some developers do tweak data settings that the radio interface daemon uses to tell the rom when and how to request data. I would put money on it that HTC didn't put the effort into Sense 4 to make it more data efficient. Could be a coincidence that the tower(s) in ur area are performing at full 100% but i doubt the later.
Gonna flash a 4.0 Rom to test this

Which ROM did you flash? I've tried several ICS roms and the overall user experience is faster including web browsing on 3G. That could be related to the many tweaks that the developers employ.
The latest ICS I tried was Cool ICS v5. It was probably the most complete ICS Rom i've tried. Everything works. I switched back to GB because it could not do tethering.
One shot alpha, at this time you can't hook to pc and use as a disc drive after Rom is installed so might be good to have another Rom on sdcard to flash to later.

Tethering works fine on all ICS roms, with "wifi tether" app, it does require two settings, the profile should be set to "Generic ICS" and then check that "Routing Fix" is enabled, these settings are specific to the Evo 3D on ICS
USB tethering.. well idk about that. PDANET and FoxFi can likely do that.

High ping on telus with T-Mobile based roms

I'm currently using energy Rom and was previously using revolution hd and one thing I noticed is that using these roms increases the latency (ping) on telus. Both these roms are based on the leaked T-Mobile ics.
I've already tried doing the build.prop tweaks to no avail.
To give an idea the average ping would be 75-150 on stock, now I'm getting double or triple that. Hmm. Any other telus users notice this?

Kernel / Radio
I've not modified anything and I'm on an old ROM. CM9 at dd level is not far away... that'll change things I bet.
