3g faster on sense 4 roms? - HTC EVO 3D

I noticed my 3g speeds were about double or better immediately after i flashed a sense 4 rom (one shot). Up to this point i was leery of using a rom with no wimax, but this changed my mind. Has anyone else seen increased speeds that's running a sense 4 rom?

I haven't noticed any 3G speed increases. The closest 4G tower is a hour away, so I can't comment on that. As far as overall speed though, it's probably entirely dependent on the ROM. I went back to a GB based ROM (Mean 4.5) because it seems faster and more stable than the ICS ROMS I've used.

Some developers do tweak data settings that the radio interface daemon uses to tell the rom when and how to request data. I would put money on it that HTC didn't put the effort into Sense 4 to make it more data efficient. Could be a coincidence that the tower(s) in ur area are performing at full 100% but i doubt the later.

Gonna flash a 4.0 Rom to test this

Which ROM did you flash? I've tried several ICS roms and the overall user experience is faster including web browsing on 3G. That could be related to the many tweaks that the developers employ.
The latest ICS I tried was Cool ICS v5. It was probably the most complete ICS Rom i've tried. Everything works. I switched back to GB because it could not do tethering.

One shot alpha, at this time you can't hook to pc and use as a disc drive after Rom is installed so might be good to have another Rom on sdcard to flash to later.

Tethering works fine on all ICS roms, with "wifi tether" app, it does require two settings, the profile should be set to "Generic ICS" and then check that "Routing Fix" is enabled, these settings are specific to the Evo 3D on ICS
USB tethering.. well idk about that. PDANET and FoxFi can likely do that.

Best / Most stable rom for HBoot 1.5?

I just did the htc method for hboot 1.5 and keep reading problems people are having with roms. I just want to know what rom is the most stable and everything works for hboot 1.5.
Roms will run the same on both boot loaders just so you flash using fast boot.
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using Tapatalk
Try ViperRom for stability. The ROM is more stable than the official sense.
Try the blackened rom or just anything by xsmagical. All of his are stable and smooth!
hboot won't matter with how stable a ROM is. If you want speed along with stability, flash Myn's Warm TwoPointThree RLS1. Super smooth, super sexy, and super stable. Never had a random reboot or any nonsense like that with his ROM. That was a the first one I flashed when I came over from the OG Evo forum, since I ran his ROM when we had Froyo.
Everyone says they are the same but there are a few ROMs that even say that the 1.5 won't work with 4g and some other features.
I was working great on stock rooted rom but then i decided i wanted to overclock so i installed WTSB which said it was able to be overclocked. Using set cpu it would only go to 1188mhz. I was getting great 3g downloads (2.5meg down, 1.5 up). I flashed a couple different kernels and for some reason it only shows 1024mhz now in set cpu.
So i went back to the full factory restore and did a re-install of the WTSB so it's rom would be installed so i could get back to 1188mhz and now it too reads only 1024mhz with set cpu. something is going wrong. My data speeds are crazy slow now too.

Data speeds have nothing to do with a ROM. If anything, a PRL effects it.

any idea about set cpu being crazy now? not only can i not overclock on this "overclockable rom/kernel" i'm not even at stock speed anymore.
Eternity Rom
I've tried many roms for my EVO 3 d...I keep ending back at the eternity ROM. (sense 3.0) This has become the ROM that I rely upon daily. Lots of other great roms out there, but with this ROM...everything works very well. No bugs, and great battery life. Just my opinion, definitely something to look into. Good luck.
My fiancee was running inbREDed rom, and loved it. I now have her Evo 3D and i cant stay away from it either, it is a fantastic, smooth, really really pretty, rom.
Edit: He is also extremely receptive to, and heartily welcomes, any advice, fixes, ideas, and suggestions. Not saying the other devs don't, but he has responded to my questions and requests within minutes, at the latest a few hours.
I ran MIUI for a little while, and it was the most stable ROM I have used... However, you do lose 4G and 3D.

UGH! This is completely inaccurate. It is not possible for PRL to affect your data speed. PRL is Priority Roam List. It is merely a host list file for where towers are located. It is MORE possible (although not very likely) that a ROM could affect your data speed IF that ROM uses some kind of proxy that isn't standard to the device's carrier. Highly unlikely but I have seen it happen. But the PRL has NOTHING to do with data speed. Radio versions have been claimed to affect speed, but I would bet that most of those scenarios are coincidental.
WTF?

Are you kidding me? A ROM can affect data speeds sure, just like too much salt in your diet affects your blood pressure... The PRL of a device affects the entire radio/modem of the device, by telling it which towers it can connect to and which ones are PRIORITY when using mobile data, talk, etc. This is why when I run PRL 00001 I get 3G in area's where I never had it before, or even running 61XXX (any sprint based prl) I get slower 3g speeds, less signal, etc. Your PRL is just part of the overall package that affects your data speed. In all reality, a ROM has less affect on your data speed than a PRL...
What options are there for ROMs that have the 3D and 4G working? would like an AOSP if possible.
Bob
There are currently no AOSP ROMs with 3D or 4G.
Same goes for sense 3.5
You can run a ROM of your choice and run the de-sensify patch however which is as close as you can get and have both 3D and 4G working.

i updated my PRL and it's back to the faster speeds now again. Sprint must have updated our towers because the speeds are definitely fast now.

The chances of this are highly LOW. Unless the PRL version comparison is around 10 revisions. The chance of a PRL update targeting any specific user is very low (although there always has to be some)... but it is NEVER the PRL version itself that affects speeds. IF your PRL happens to point you to a newer tower with quicker speed (also not highly likely since Sprint intentionally load balances), then you MIGHT see an improvement. But again, the version itself has nothing to do with it... and the likelihood of any specific change affected any specific user is extremely low.

Slow Wireless Tether Speeds On MR4 Full Blown Thunderstick ROM

I have had my Thunderbolt for over a year now and have been flashing numerous ROM's/radios since. I have always had great success in each one and as time has passed, newer and better ROM's having been coming out. I currently have the Full Blown Thunderstick ROM which I have found to be the best and smoothest ROM to date. There is only one probem.
I have noticed a drastic difference in the speeds while using this ROM/radio compared to all the ones used prior. I have flashed this ROM and it's respective radio on my Thunderbolt and numerous others and I still have the same issues with all. Can someone tell me why I went from 15mb down/7 mb up speeds which I had prior to now 3-4 mb down/.5-1mb up speeds with this MR4 setup? Also, why won't the ROM let me use the Wireless Tether for Root Users in addition to the Wi-Fi Hotspot one it came with? When I try to run and connect to it from any laptop, it says it's unable to connect the network address although I have no problem connecting to the Wi-Fi Hotspot one. But sometimes with the Wi-Fi Hotspot the ROM came with, it drops connectivity. It feels like it's not using the 4G LTE speeds but only the 3G speeds only.
Just curious, did you search first? The answer for wifi tether has been posted atleast 100 times. I posted it as recently as 2 days ago. As far as speeds, speedtest.net does not work properly with that rom, your info is not correct.

Oh I read the whole thread and I didnt really see anything that answered these questions. Im not going with speedtest.net. Im judging it based on certain websites and web-based programs which are now slower since I installed the ROM.
Did you try Barnacle? I haven't used the ROM you have, I run Liquid.
Most people claim that Wireless Tether works great with Liquid, but I couldn't get it to work. Once I used Barnacle, it not only worked, but I've been getting great speeds with it.
You need to run Imoseyon's kernel to fix the speed issue. It's been widely documented and discussed in almost every MR4 rom thread.
I'vd had the lean kernel flashed since the beginning and still no change in speeds

UCLD3 vs UCLE2 ?

I noticed E2 is way faster. BUT big but, E2 has way worse reception.
Am i the only one?
I was on Jersey Shore today and I couldn't get any data working.
If that is the case for you, then you could flash a different modem I suppose.

I've noticed way faster data speeds on E2. I used to see about 2 down, now I see about 6 down. And I've had no signal issues, always 4 or 5 bars. Afaik, different modems can give vastly different performance for different people. All depends on your area and what not. Just experiment with the various modems. I'm just glad Samsung finally got one right for my area, as I've only ever seen about 3 down on any phone I've owned until now.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
The AT&T version of both of those modems, which is all us Canadians have access to thus far, has, for me, had much worse data speed numbers (non LTE anyway) on the Telus network than the stock GB Telus modem.
The E2 modem is, in my very non scientific testing, slightly slower for us here in Canada. (again, HSPA only, no LTE coverage here yet)
I'd really be interested in understanding what is actually different between carrier modem implementations. I noticed a similar speed differential in the stock modems.
I tried adjusting the RF preferences but that doesn't solve it. Its almost like AT&T doesn't have the same implementation of HSPA+ as the Canadian carriers.
I say all that with some degree of confidence in the numbers... having installed a variety of ROMs n modems and the results from the stock Telus modem are consistently better when I can use it.
Currently on the One Beta and associated LE2 modem, it shows very wonky "bars" by times...like none, in what should be solid five bar area.
My fourth floor office which never wavered from five bars on stock.. Consistently now shows any where from 0 to 3... But it still transmits and receives calls and data.
A buddy of mine is testing the Telus 4.0 release with Premium Suite... so in any event, it shouldn't be too much longer.

is it really that much faster? ive yet to upgrade from UCLD3 because its just running fine, wanted the next time i update my phone to be the last (offical ICS since i doubt we will get a update any time soon after that)
I noticed a big difference in speed. UCLD3 used to stutter a lot and freeze up from time to time for no apparent reason. Haven't had any of those issues with UCLE2. Also, bugs that annoyed me in UCLD3 were fixed in UCLE2. I don't see any reason not to flash UCLE2.
I've been having a bug on ucle2 where I cant keep a wifi connection for in app downloads resulting in the download stopping I've tested on multiple ucle2 roms and confirmed no issue on ucld3 not sure how I got so special because I haven't seen anyone else report this that I know of

That actually happened to me. I reverted to D. Seems not as crazy fast but stable. With E I got 1mB (that's bytes) per second. D tops at about 600.

High ping on telus with T-Mobile based roms

I'm currently using energy Rom and was previously using revolution hd and one thing I noticed is that using these roms increases the latency (ping) on telus. Both these roms are based on the leaked T-Mobile ics.
I've already tried doing the build.prop tweaks to no avail.
To give an idea the average ping would be 75-150 on stock, now I'm getting double or triple that. Hmm. Any other telus users notice this?

[Q] Best T-mobile Radio/Custom Rom combo for the AT&T Galaxy Note I717

Ive been looking around throughout the forum and I cant seem to get a grasp on which Radio gives the best speeds and what rom should it be running.
Should it be a Stock Rom or should it be a Custom rom?
If so, Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich, or JellyBean?

CyanogenMod9 and included kernel are stable, good set of extras added to ICS, the modem (I think it is stock), works well. Seems like it is still a little early for CM10 (still some areas that need to be imporved). Only drawback is that it does not include Touchwiz Intercase however, 3rd party apps bring back the pen functionality (for notes and drawing).

I've flashed stock and custom gingerbread roms (touchwiz), stock and custom ics roms (cm9, stock touchwiz, aosp, aokp), the t-mobile note rom, and various jellybean (cm10, slim bean, etc.) roms. I've flashed every radio modified for use with t-mobile from all the modem threads including the t-mobile note radio. At the end of the day, cm9 rom (stable or nightlies) / ICS blaze modem combination works best on my phone.
I live in NYC. I consistently get about 15mbps down / 1.5mbps up (sometimes 2.5mbps up) with this rom / radio combo. The only issue I have is that a phone reboot causes my speed to drop to around 600kbps down and almost nothing up (like 25kbps).
Reflashing the radio and driving around to allow my phone to connect to various cell towers gets my speed back up to 15mbps down / 1.5mbps up. For the life of me I don't understand why. However, if I don't do this, my speed will be stuck at 600kbps down / 25kbps up indefinitely. The good thing for me is the cm9 rom on my phone is pretty solid (I rarely have to reboot) and I commute everyday so (if I have a reboot) it's just a minor inconvenience until I start driving. Then my speed comes back.
radio combo
I Myself installed Saurom and tmobile radio vlk1 i beleive its called. .. I got it from zedomax,s site....rootgalaxynote.com and it seems to do the trick. ..my best was 13 down and 3 up. ...........not sure if this is the best combo but i tried a ics stock rom for note and blazeics modem and my speeds didnt come close. ..... But dont get me wrong id like to run a custom ics or jellybean rom and grt good speeds but i find gingerbread and the radio thats on zedomaxs site runs hella faster...i have adw ex i run and its good enough for me. ..if anyone knows a awesome ics rom with radio that has super speeds lemme know. ..i useually run AOKP roms...
