Water sensor? I deep-sixed my phone. - Motorola Photon 4G

Anyone know where the water sensor is? I deep sixed my phone, but I grabbed it out instantly. It does work perfectly fortunately. I want to check to see if the sensor is triggered.
Thanks!
Jeff

The battery has water sensor sticker.

It's inside of the phone so people stop trying to peel it off and lie to us about whether or not it has gotten wet. I've seen too many phones come in with little red specs and glue residue where there used to be a litmus indicator, then when I ask if they've gotten it wet "Oh no, it's never even been near water!"
If you have a T6 you can open up the phone and check, but if it is removed I can promise you that most techs will automatically refer you to asurion. I'd rather see a slightly pink sticker than a missing one.
EDIT: With your sticker being red, it's been soaked. They'll be sending you to asurion if you step into any tech centers.

Ok, If I use my friends battery , will they open the phone anyway for a exchange to see, I want another one?
Thanks

Doesn't matter we sprint techs don't go by the litmus paper anymore anyway. At some point if the liquid corrodes your circuit board, or sits standing somewhere in your phone w/o evaporating, it is then we will deem it Damaged Beyond Repair.

newalker91 said:
They will. Every phone gets completely dismantled before it gets exchanged to inspect for improper use. Red sticker or no sticker, you're pretty much screwed on that.

Ok, I do have protection from sprint ($8 a month) , should I just claim lost or does it matter? Protection covers water damage too right?

newalker91 said:
Just tell them you sunk it in water. It'll be a $100 deductible that you can place on your bill or pay over the phone. If you say that you lost it they'll black out the ESN on the phone so it'll be of no use anyways. It's cheaper to swing by an electronics store, pick up a T6 screwdriver and a pry tool, get some denatured alcohol from a hardware store, and scrub the phone clean on the inside with a stuff bristle art brush. Denatured alcohol cleans away any corrosion and once its clean your phone will run perfectly fine.

Funny about water damage..i know people that just say it was lost now
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

In the Atrix the water indicator is on the inside of the back plate, and if you look closely at the breakdown of the Photon in this video below, it seems that at time index 2:00 you also see a red looking water mark below the round disc at the bottom of the back plate.
At time index 2:44 it seems that on the circuit board itself it looks like there are 8 strips, but I can't tell if they are water indicators.
Bottom line, I doubt Sprint Tech would go through all this trouble to dismantle the Photon to see if the water indicator (if that's what those things are) do show any water damage.

As best practice, my techs are required to break a phone down completely and rebuild/repair it to try and fix any issues prior to ordering a new one. This may require the customer to wait an hour, but it's best for everyone involved. They won't have to set up a new phone or be exposed to new problems, and it keeps our exchange rate down. In this process they will find anything like that.
(Have to meet a load of ridiculous quotas set by Sprint to make any commission. We're the largest third party dealer in the midwest, yet our techs get minimum wage + commission if they meet Sprint's nearly impossible requirements. It's pretty bogus and get's frustrating when customers throw a ***** fit when we try to protect our paychecks before handing them a new phone on a silver platter.)

I am within the 30 days, I wonder if they will tear down the phone. Normally, I got a replacement fast.
I'm going to borrow my friends battery and try.
If they do bomb it out, can I pay the deductible and get a new one right there?

I had know Idea that it was like that. I be more aware of that in the future, although I have never thrown a fit over it. Can we have a little more insight on your quotas, just to better understand?

Under your 30 days it's worth a shot. Tell them you were having issues with the phone randomly shutting off and it's a known issue.
This budget includes all of the phones that we receive from the factory that are already defective and have to bounce back to order another, which I've been fighting since day one. In addition to this, we also have to main 80% customer satisfaction (random survey calls to customers on a 5 point scale) which is really difficult because they take out their frustrations with Sprint on us regardless of us explaining the survey to them.
In all of this, if we miss our exchange budget 3 months in a row, we go onto a performance plan. Miss it again, you're fired. In order to get paid a bonus, we have to be 10% under our budget, not just hit it. Plus we have to hit our repair rate, 80% CSAT, 75% ReadyNow participation and hit a top profit level. In the end, our commission with all of this being hit is only about $250-300 on top of our minimum wage. For the most part, we only get minimum wage.

Can I get a little more clarification on this?
Do sprint stores go threw techs like theirs no tomorrow? I always give 5*, unless someone from ACS wants to lie to me and said they have taken care of something and it takes talking to 3 others to get it cleared up.
How can techs be held responsible for unrepairable phones. Do you just limit the tickets that are processed for repairs until a tech can determine weather or not the phone can be fixed?
Just curious, been with sprint since 2002, and I feel the more one knows how a company works, the better it is on working with customer service.

Wow. I feel your frustration. Why can't the manufacture/or warehouse be held more responsible for what they ship as a "New or Refurbished Phones". And why are their not more "loner phones" to keep exchange rates down, until a phone can be repaired. I know overhead has to be kept down, but having 50 to 75 loner phones would be ideal, wouldnt it?
Is it possible to have customer service take the hit on these promises that it can be exchanged? And "like for like" phones seems like a waste of resources.

I got a couple of more question but I will just PM you tomorrow. I don't want to change the focus of the thread.
Thank you for the insight.

qft! I cant believe how many defective units come in, and my store is only 6 months old - were not super busy but still see a large number of bounces.

newalker91 said:

Our quotas are like this: They base it on your number of tickets you process per month, and my store does about 600 tickets per month. There are three types of transactions, triage (fixes that require no parts), repair (parts) and exchanges. Your repair rate must exceed 35%. Your exchanges must not exceed your budget. The budget varies by store, but is normally around 22% of your tickets. My store's budget is 122. We also must have 75% in ReadyNow participation, where we have to set up their phone and teach them features on it. I dislike this greatly as this is something only the sales end should be held accountable for because I don't have time to teach people their phone when I have a line of customers. Most people will say no we didn't do ReadyNow with them on the survey even when I tell them we did. In all of this, if we miss our exchange budget 3 months in a row, we go onto a performance plan. Miss it again, you're fired. In order to get paid a bonus, we have to be 10% under our budget, not just hit it. This is why I'm a tech for a corporate store
We process just as many phones, but our metrics are a little easier. CSAT is only 73%, ReadyNow isn't even a metric as far as techs are concerned, and exchanges aren't budgeted as a gross total, we just can't allow our exchange rate to go above 35%. We also have the Slate diagnostics test, which we have to hit 50% being run on compatible devices.
That being said, I've only been with sprint since the end of june, and I've hit these numbers and then some without really trying. Individually I've worked on about 150 phones this month, and the other two techs are also right around that number, with even better metrics.

Those numbers are changing again. That said, you can only imagine what mine look like at a store like mine that does 2000+ tickets a month, and this is my 7th year, I'm pre-merger Sprint. I amaze myself at keeping my exchange rate under 22% each month. I hit 18% at one point last year...but I harvest like a mad scientist and I still solder things with my lvl 3 cert. And no one gets Lvl 3 certified anymore.
On top of that, we are a Discovery Store, so our direct line of management is about 2 rings under direction of Dan Hesse himself. So you can imagine the programs WE run.

Don't know if your question has truly been answered, but on the Atrix there are 3 water sensors that I personally know of... I took a swim with my phone about 2 months ago... It is working perfectly to this day except for the front facing camera. There is one on the battery. One behind the back cover next to the sim card and memory card... And one on the underside of the motherboard closest to the camera. You have to loosen the motherboard completely to see this one. Hope this helps. I know it is where the Atrix's are located, but may help.

This thread is definitely interesting reading. In fact, it made me pop open the back of my phone for the first time (I've had my phone for about 5 days). I was surprised to see that the battery indicator has red + symbols because the phone is so new and I have not had it anywhere near water (no, really).
It makes me wonder if the other water sensors are also tripped. I purchased the phone at Best Buy and they put it all together for me, otherwise I probably would have noticed it before. Should I ask Best Buy to replace the phone, or just the battery? Not sure where I should go from here. Every thing works perfectly...

Where are the water damage indicators for the EVO 3d?

Yeah so a long while ago I once trashed a phone by getting thrown in a pool. I was able to exchange the phone because I was in my 30 days from Verizon but I decided that I should probably cover the water indicators in all of my devices.
Yeah I'm swindling a company but try not to remind me about it lol.
I know one is on top of the battery but might there also be one in the phone that the store would check?
EDIT: There's also one behind the back cover of the phone. Top Right underneath the hole to the right of the headphone jack.
How do you cover them? What do you use?

Tape will usually work.
Why not just keep it from getting wet in the first place?
I understand the instance where you got thrown in the pool, but I'm talking about from now on. (somebody else would have been paying for a replacement phone in that scenario, not scamming Verizon)
It may also get an STD someday, so you should get a condom for it too?

Well ofc I'm not keeping my phone in my pocket anytime I'm near water again but there are instances in life where sometimes things happen.
Torrential downpours happen out of nowhere.
Some kid throws a water balloon at you accidentally.
Water spills on your desk.
Life is messy and to say "Well don't do that thing" is kinda wrong don't you think?

Sure, accidents can happen, but you are proactively taking steps necessary to fraudulently claim a replacement phone for when/if the time comes that such an "accident" happens. That mentality led me to believe that you might not take the route of caution when it comes to your phone. No, my statement wasn't wrong at all.

Well now we're delving into people's individual personalities.
While yes there are gonna be people who just decided to live more vicariously with their phone now that there's a higher chance the store will take it back and exchange it for a working one when the time comes that it breaks.
But that's not all people.
By your logic, people who buy phone cases are more prone to dropping their phone.
In reality, that's obviously not the case.

Not at all. Protecting your device against accidental damage is one thing. Covering up the water damage indicators is deceptive. Hence, one can reason that you are a somewhat deceptive person. That's not an assumption since you admitted it in your original post. Figure it out yet?
A lot of people openly condone criminal activity I've noticed. You pay for insurance and you get replacements for $100 if you damage them. Everything is so damn expensive due to so many people abusing the system, scamming and outright theft. If you got thrown in the pool, whoever did it should be responsible for the damages. I am going to assume it was an escalating situation in which you had previously provoked this response, therefor you don't feel comfortable making the person responsible take responsibility for their actions.
I also see people complaining about software cost and trying to get the software free through not necessarily legal means. These phones are "expensive". If you can't afford the cost of admission, you shouldn't be trying to get on the ride.
Not to change the tide of the topic, but I wish people would do a study to link this with religion and political stance. Atheist always get a bad rap, as soulless/moral-less/heathens, yet make up less than 1% of the US prison population. So I wonder were each religion ranks in things of this nature. I know my stance on religion and what I think about these types of scams.
I actually have a question about this. Mine and my Moms (didn't check my dads) indicators are all showing red with checker style lines. Phones have never seen water but we live in Florida, so it's humid. Is this indicator showing water damage, or humidity damage. All my phones show this, and I never get them wet. But I was under the impression they were suppose to be a solid white. I only checked the battery one, but I would assume they were all the same.

So if a water balloon was thrown at me.
And let's say my phone was broken due to water damage.
I don't feel like this is negligence on my part.
But yet the company will say to me that it's considered negligence.
So now am I supposed to attack the kid's family for compensation or do I just go and scam a company? One takes in millions of dollars a year, the other may not break that in a lifetime.
And yes I realize that there is phone insurance. Parent's picked the plan, not me.

Lol, I didn't provoke anything. I was peering into the pool and then all of a sudden I was thrown into it after someone yelled: "Throw him into the pool!"

My point is this: you are trying to justify deception in order to not have to hold yourself or any party at fault just so you can get a free replacement from a company that makes their money from hard work, research and development, and sells the phone that you want so badly that you won't legitimately get it replaced if it gets water damaged. See the circle of nonsense?

OK well because I didn't know this I went on eBay to find the stickers cause I would not be screwed over by humidity again, haha. So I looked them up and they were all white, another reason I thought I was boned (can this be explained to me please). If I drop mine in water, Sprint will see my $100 because I think that's a good deal. But if my camera goes out, and it shows water damage and I KNOW I didn't drop it or get it wet, then well a huge **** Storm would happen but in the end I would lose without the help of illegal activity which in this scenario is not bad (in my opinion).
I agree with the OP because these sensors are way to sensitive. I had one turn red on my EVO and it touched absolutely no water. BTW i live in a humid climate

I've had this happen as well, and when I took my phone in to be replaced for a different defect, they tried to tell me it was water damaged. i do know that as far as the HTC phones that Sprint has, the water indicators are white with red lines crossing it.. if it gets wet the whole thing turns red.. the indicators are weird though, my wife's hero had the indicator turn totally red but it never saw a drop of water, but her Evo was basically submerged in water and sprint took it apart and all was fine.. so.. who knows really.. if you get it wet put it in a bucket of rice for a day before you do anything else with it, and everything will be fine..

OP..I have heard there is also a water damage indicator located in the headphone jack and there are ways to fix that as well, just Google it. This came from a Sprint rep that came to my company for cell phone reviews etc..
Good luck bud!

Got robbed last night ; note ended up in puddle

Yeah so I got jumped by two punks last night. Long story short My note ended up being taken from me and then returned in the puddle I was standing next to.
My case had a rubber plug for the headphone and USB Ports if that helps from the six dollar case.
I'm pretty sure I'm just out of the thirty days but not thirty since I exchanged my last one that was defective.
Seems to be working okay. Water damage can do weird things. what should I be looking out for?
ok, how long has it been since it was in water? First thing i would myself is to take out battery immediately. Then take it apart if i thought the water may have gone deeper. If your not too experienced with taking it apart, then i might avoid doing that part. I would just leave battery out for a little while and try not to turn it on. From my personal experience with other peoples phone is that the water will be in there and will eventually start corroding and i guess its kinda like a oxidization(?) and will make contact to other connections and will start to short.
long story short
-remove battery
-let dry for a while
-if you dont think it went deep in the phone, then I wouldnt worry too much
-from my own experiences usb port is the first to stop working
-then white screen(bad lcd) along with a ruined battery
The day that it doesn't turn on anymore.
I had dropped a phone in the washing machine once while it just started filling up with water. The phone didn't get very wet at all and ran like a champ for two months more. Then it died.
Hopefully the plugs on your phone will make a difference!
Less than twelve hours. there was a very few small droplets on the outer sides under the battery case. I don't think it too deep into the phone I left the battery out with the phone in a plastic rice container and under a lamp for a few hours. I'm not having those symptoms yet. There was no water under the battery.
Is atts 30 day return policy from the date of contact or from when I exchanged the other note for a defect?

I would say 30 days from the exchange from note to note. I dont know if they would change to a different device but maybe another note. Of course if they see water damage on the pads then they wouldnt let you. Just in case they are red, here is a post by the Elite dev Adam Outler.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1073929
In my experience the 30 days starts all over with each phone. The contract does not. After 14 days your locked into the contract and can not get a reversal. The phone itself always goes by the date of purchase or replacement.
Sent from Galaxy Note
The 30 day period is from the original sale date, I had to return a second one for a blown speaker at 10 days from my 1st return (hard brick) but 32 days from original purchase. Had to send it back to warranty when I got the replacement in the mail.
If you believe it still has water in it, take out the battery and place both the phone and battery in uncooked rice for a day. The rice will draw out any moisture.
Sounds like you will have to make a warranty claim, but if it works without issue, don't worry about that until it doesn't work anymore. You can make a claim whenever, they wont know when it happened.

If you return a phone because of a factory defect within 30 days, they give you another phone. The 30 day return policy starts all over again. If you damage the phone in any way, then the same rules don't apply(especially water damage). That's the 1st thing they check for. If there's no sign of water damage(and you don't tell them), then you're covered under the return policy. Otherwise, it's gotta go through warranty. I would be honest about it. Either way you get another phone....although you will need to pay a deductible.
Edit: Just remember....every store is different and it depends on who you talk to. If the speaker blew due to no fault of your own, then they should've have given you another phone right then and there. If you paid a deducible then they screwed you. I returned 3 phones in the past 3 months. All were covered under the 30 day return policy from the date I received them.

WTF, all the replies are so well thought out to OMG save the phone, but no one cares that the OP got robbed and roughed up? What's wrong with you people?
LOL
OP, I'm just glad you are OK and not in the hospital or worse. A phone can always be replaced...
Hey, like said above biggest thing is that yur ok! had a similar situation happen last year didnt end up so well for me, ER trip, Neuro rehab etc but cant do anything bout it now!! Anyways, I remember my wife dropped her Isucks err Iphone in the sink while doing dishes, completely saturated. I read online that one of the best ways to soak up the water from inside the phone itself it to put it in a jar of white rice for a day or two. Its the same principle as putting rice in the salt shaker. It absorbs moisture and we did that and it worked. Had some gremlins for a minute there (phone volume changing on its own, messenger popping up randomly etc) but after a few days it was business as usual for it for another year. Hope this helps ya!
we all love our phones but take care when pulling them out in public. always be aware of your surroundings and stop walking around with your head down.
not saying the OP was doing this just a general "heads up" so to speak. no pun intended

For this reason, im debating to get a CCW (carry concealed weapon) license. But Glad to hear that youre okay. Ive heard that water damaged phones can be fixed by sticking it in a bucket of rice uncooked for about a day. Worked for my bros old iphone.

I didn't have to pay a deductible, they just made me swap it out through the warranty dept as it was covered under warranty for the bad speaker. They made me do it that way since it was past the original 30 days from the sale. No biggie to me, I didn't pay, just had to wait a day.

Cool man. Glad to hear it. I get really fired up when these carriers screw their customers over. I also can't stand the fact that every store policy is different. Everyone should be treated the same.

Well the battery indicator is still white. The phone didn't get completely water logged thanks to the case. Its working as of now so how would i be able to exchange it anyway. I guess ill end up doing the warranty when or if things act up. There's only one water damage indicator?
I didn't get roughed up luckily. This sounds crazy but I convinced them that what they were doing was wrong and they were only doing it cause they could cause im a little man. I also did mention i could gps track the phone. Once they threatened violence i told them to do it. Two big guys i told them i wouldn't fight back either if it made them feel better. The one with my phone ended up calling me a humble man throwing my phone in the puddle and told me where my board was so i could leave. Reverse psychology working on an intoxicated person is almost unheard of lol.
I realize i did get very lucky and it could have ended a lot worse.

I am not sure about any additional indicators. Hopefully it will be no issue. I only know of the one. Glad you talked them down from the hostility!
Here in Tampa a group of thugs jumped and beat an off duty Army Soldier when he went to get a dollar out of his wallet because they asked for some help. Glad they caught 2 of them, only a matter of time until they get the other two. Wish they could bring the thugs to his platoon or squad for some military style justice!

I here you bro, these stores and reps all give a different take, and see if they can get one over on the customer. So much for real customer service anymore.
Im here in Florida too. As the economy worsens more and more bad people will populate the states.
Carrying a firearm can offer protection but has a lot of downfalls to the idea. Especially having to defend yourself in court after merely trying to defend your life.

[Q] LCD bleed/smudge/damage(?) - wondering if anyone else has run into this

I searched the forums first, but all I found were cracked screens and the like. for months, my rezound has exhibited an issue in the bottom right corner of the LCD (see pics). it hasn't grown/changed or affected use, but it definitely ain't right.
the rep I showed it to at the verizon store swears that I either dropped it or pressed with the might of a thousand hulks on that portion of the screen, which in turn damaged the LCD. I say nay, nay to both, but they still won't allow a warranty replacement.
it's in a hard case five 9s of the time (took it out for pictures) and I certainly never mashed so hard on the screen that it'd cause damage. any thoughts? thanks

LOL for a second I thought your forum name was ****face.. Anyways back to the topic! I would honestly just call into customer care 800-922-0204 and tell them there's a defect with your display. They will make you do the stupid BS trouble shooting and pass you onto tier 2 tech. They will most likely even up giving you a warranty CLNR which you are most likely entitled to. As long as there is no physical damage/liquid damage it clearly is a manufacturer defect. As long as you're under warranty you should have no issues calling into Verizon. 9/10 times you will get nothing accomplished at a store unless its them making $$$$.

yea, it's sposed to make everyone look twice. I was even turned away at the DMV when I tried to get it as a vanity plate
before heading to the store, I called phone support for a warranty replacement. when the phone rep got to the part about "if this is determined to not be a warranty issue, we gonna charge your ass" (paraphrased), I declined. I figured a store tech would glance at it, shrug, then replace it no problem and I wouldn't have to worry about paying. so much for that hope...

I had the exact same issue on a replacement Verizon sent me about a month back. It was a purple looking smudge at the bottom of the screen. I called them right away and they sent me out another one.

That's part of their script the whole "if its deemed not to be a warranty issue blah blah blah". Your phone has a manufacturers defect and it should get replaced free of charge. Give them a call! Best vanity plate I saw to date was ShesMad I lol'd pretty damn hard.
the whole thing about having absolutely no recourse in the event that they charge for a replacement is worrisome, but I'm feelin more confident about it being a defect now. danke
No problem and good luck!
I have a similar smudge spot on my Rezound now. It happened after I crashed on my bike and landed on the phone in my pocket.
It seems to happen with excessive pressure on the screen. The same thing happened to my Asus Transformer too, which is usually put in my backpack and has a lot of things pressing up against it quite often. Not much can be done except replace the screen, or the phone.

The Z3v is not waterproof, and warranty won't cover water damage.

My phone was in a pool of about 3' of water for a few seconds, with all of the ports completely closed. Ever since, the screen hasn't been responsive except for a small portion of the top left. I contacted Sony, who told me to contact Verizon, who told me to contact Sony...and on the 3rd attempt, someone at Verizon finally bridged up someone at Sony and the RMA # was then provided to me.
I sent the phone back to Sony (at my own cost), and just received it back today. They left adhesive sticking out of the gap between the glass and side trim, and left trim off the bottom of the phone, which is nowhere to be found. They also claim to have done a successful pressure test on it, but I am absolutely sure that my ports were closed when the phone entered the water. In fact, I use a Qi charger to ensure that the seals on the ports remain intact.
Here is the document they sent the phone back with.
Adhesive sticking out of the side.
Bottom trim gone.
Long story short, I loved this phone, but it is not waterproof, and don't expect support if it becomes water damaged. Very frustrating, as I am still paying for the phone via Verizon Edge.
Wow.. Looks like a novice did that job. That's horrible. Sorry for your loss!

I just had a similar thing happen. 10 seconds in a kiddie pool and now I have dead zones in my screen. Visiting Verizon today, any suggestions for dealing with them?
It's unfortunate your experience was terrible, especially with the kind of service they did. The thing is though, not all Z3v's are defective like yours. I've washed mine in the sink, taken it to shower, brought it to several swimming pools, and I've never had any waterproofing problems.
And in any case, I have the $8 insurance with Verizon for any problems such as dropping it or losing it. I'm sure Verizon can do something for you if you did subscribe to that.

Based on my experience, you're SOL without insurance. I typically don't buy insurance on phones because the monthly premium + deductible just isn't worth it on a device I can get on eBay or Swappa for $300-400.

I'm going to neglect to mention the water and see where that gets me...
I had the same experience. I had my Sony in the water with all the ports closed and it got water inside. I contacted Sony and the guy I spoke to told me I had to send it in at my own expense and they would determine if my phone was defective or if it was user error. He also told me not to hold much hope because he said he hasn't seen them replace one yet. I sent it in and they mailed it back saying it passed a pressure test so it must have been my fault. I spent $500 on a waterproof phone that lasted all of two Weeks and broke when it got wet while being used properly. I called Sony to argue my case several times and it was to no avail. I was treated very rudely by one rep and hung up on by another but most of the reps were very nice. I finally got my my case escalated to corporate office and was told sorry there are no exceptions to be made if it passed a pressure test at Sony. I will never buy anything Sony again that's how frustrated the whole process made me.
Well, I guess I'll stop bothering to call support then. I argued my case with the front line personnel, and they said they'd have a supervisor call me back within 48 hours...last Friday. Haven't heard a peep. I would hate to swear off Sony devices after this, because other than the lack of water resistance, I liked the phone very much.

Update on ruined phone
So I contacted Sony and explained to them that my phone's screen was unresponsive and registering Phantom touches. Ileft out that it had been in water, I just told them that the camera had been overheating a lot. The guy on the phone accessed it and had me run the hard reboot. He said he could see that it was trying to run files in the background, but nothing was happening. Since my phone was under the one year warranty, he said it was covered and I was mailed a replacement. I was pretty surprised and impressed by customer service. Just remember to be kind and explain everything youve done to address the issues ( soft and hard reboots, system restore, played in the configuration menu). I'm not surprised to see Sony reverse their stance on waterproofing, but I am very disappointed.
Yeah, you're wrong. You have no idea what you're talking about, lol.
Did you even read my original post, or do you just troll around for ways to massage your ego on Internet forums?

Yeah, I did read it and I was trying to direct you to Verizon since you have no better access to a replacement than them. If that doesn't workout, you may as well just purchase one from eBay since prices of the Z3v are driven down pretty low now in expectation of what's supposed to be the successor's release.
If you don't want my help, that's fine. I've done my fair share on this topic and I've been able to help plenty of others in development as well as achieving root first on a ROM that is still unannounced on its official release.
Good day and good luck finding a solution.
It sounds as though you still haven't read my original post.
Verizon would not do anything for me since I do not have insurance on the phone. Sony inspected it and would not honor the warranty because the board had corrosion on it and the phone tested airtight.
So why are you still here? Also what do you expect us to do, more then the advice that was given? You didn't have insurance , the claim has been denied. Time to take personal responsibility for not having insurance, you have run out of options.
I had something of a similar issue but with a good ending. For a few weeks my charge cover wouldn't close right all of the time because the seal came partly undone from but I could sometimes get it back in flush. One day at work I guess it just wasn't the case because after about a minute in the bottom of a pool, it turned off. Never had water proof issues before( in the shower, other times in the pool, fish petting tank). It took a full 15 business days at there facility in Texas but they replaced the phone so I guess the guys there couldn't get the flap to seal either for the pressure test.

Defective screen any idea the cost to repair?

No damage, stopped turning on, they already want me to pay shipping costs to and from them. So I fully expect their ****ty customer support to try and charge me since they already have tried to screw me once before by charging me four times for the initial purchase price upon ordering the phone.
Does anyone know what their service charge is to replace a screen? Has anyone gone through their BS circus acts?

Where did you buy the phone from? Did they really try to charge you nearly $5000 for the phone?
I've gone through Asus RMA over the years, maybe the particular repair centre closest to me happens to be great but I've never had major issues with them. A laptop repaired in under 2 weeks, handful of motherboards, most of the time free or reasonably priced. If the device was under warranty they just accepted it. Never had to pay shipping though since its not too far from me.
If the screen is just defective then it should be covered by warranty as that would be a manufacturer caused issue. Your total cost should be whatever it costs to ship to the repair centre, and thats it.
let us know how the saga plays out! Good luck!
Yes they did try to charge me 5k for it, and I ended up paying around 600 dollars in overdrafts and returned payment fees for all of my bills. My bank said it's Asus's fault, and guess what Asus said? "Our system doesn't make mistakes, it's a problem with your bank."
I've had absolutely dreadful results in the past with their turnaround time, and they've sent back a GPU and motherboard that were "fixed" but not really. I'm predicting to be told I have to pay around 500 to have it replaced somehow. And to be honest I may be done with them as a company for life, I've had about all I can stand at this point.
Which country are you in? They should fix it for free under warranty.
Just a quick update, it took them this long to get back to me. I received two extremely low resolution pictures showing very tiny surface scratches to the frame and the glass on the top left corner which would be from car keys.
Apparently that voids warranty and they want a suspicious $500 even to replace the entire OLED and glass assembly. As I expected a crock of BS from this company I'm not entirely surprised. What a joke though, $500 for an undamaged screen? Who's their drug dealer?

Unfortunately I had to deal with a similar issue with HTC for a defective camera module. Factory defect. If it comes broken from the factory its on them to replace of fix it. Legally. The warranty is an agreement IE a contract. Even the 90 day warranties.
I had to threaten and start the process of a lawsuit, and of company no company like that would want to lawyer up for such a small sum. The next day I got a reply from them saying they would cover everything, and I eventually got my phone fixed.
Ive had a similar issues like that with Corsair and Gigabyte. It happens all the time. No one wants to take responsibility for anything, and sometimes you gotta force em haha.
After previous experiences, they're not going to budge. They don't even have this phone in their system to FILE for an RMA, that took an hour phone call to begin with. I'm just never going to buy from them again, they're ****ing garbage when it comes to treating their customers right. I never got the $600 plus dollars in overdrafts out of them for their system charging me repeatedly for the order either, even after my bank concluded it WAS their fault.
I will however be throwing my story up on every social media post of their for the rest of 2019.

If someone is proven to owe you money you have legal precedent to collect it. They know this. They also know a lot of people wont go through the hassle of trying to collect their money. So does LG, HTC, Samsung, OnePlus, etc and they will all try to hold on to that money if possible. Usually thats as simple as not responding to the customer. Its easy when you dont have a storefront. Only really Apple does (AFAIK), which makes it easier to argue with them and get what you should be getting.
Feel free to **** talk them for the year, but personally I feel like one post in an easy to see place is good enough. May as well put that extra effort tightening the vice on them. its not impossible. And its yours.
I hope everything works out for you bro, best of luck!

Hi there, got the same. Pulled out of pocket - black screen (later started to blink and bootloop)
so, as i recall i've seen a "scratch" nearby the left airtrigger area. later on i couldn't find it so i just forgot about it (thought when i'm going to put on some glass protection i wount be able to see it at all)
but, it appears that "scratch" was an amoled matrix crack... because when it all went black and then white - i can clearly see that crack is in this area. the phone itself is undamaged, not a single scratch, and there is NO WAY i could apply such a pressure to pass through glass and damage te amoled (seen JerryRig bend test?)
so far waiting for the shop to answer about would they exchange phone or not -_-
idk, at last - when a phone is designed to have a pressure applied (airtriggers) how come it cracks?....
