If you flash ROMs to the 3d, on average how much storage is left out of the 4gb?
I know it depends on the ROM but just wanted to know?

Well yeah for apps and storage you have 1GB but if you flash ROM couldn't you change that limitation?

I'm using viper rom and I have around 781 meg free. I dont think it really affected anything.
What is the 3GB even used for, anyway?
The OS can't possibly take up that much space.

Think about it - The Evo 4G had Android 2.3.4, sense 2.3 or something like that and it only used 750 MB of the 1GB.
Imo there is absolutely no way sense uses 3 gb of space..but I can't explain where the Hell it is unless its partitioned for something else..I feel a little duped about that ..they clearly advertised 4gb..but thank god for SD cards
Its probably saved for future updates.

I might have a stupid question, but nevertheless, where is the 4gb rom? I see that I have about 800mb ram and 1gb for storage plus the sd card, but where is the 4gb rom? Thanks.

That would be your 1gb. The system ate up a lot of it.

No, I'm not happy to see you, that's a Shooter in my pocket.

Wondering how the speed compares to the 4G?
Way faster than og evo rooted and all, that 4gb was ate up by all these fancy dancy widgets and doohickies
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter
it was my understanding that you had 1gb of free space but there was 1gb reserved for future rom updates....
rom updates...
waiting to be able to put on a Fresh Rom
So what you guys are saying is that I still need to move apps to the SD card? That's interesting. Its like the 4gig doesn't even matter. I must say that while I do like how everything is, I really don't use any of the widgets. Is there any way to clear them out without root?

3GB reserved for weather animations. hehehe
Your saying 1gb of space isn't enough space for your apps? Impossible. Moving them to the SD card is completely unnecessary unless you have like 400 apps.

4 GB ROM
This is the first time that I heard of ROM. As I understand it, ROM includes the space needed for the system to operate with additional space left over that you can use???
Anyone else having this problem. Sprint site says 4gb internal memory. I'm smelling some complaining for a credit bc of false advertising.
That memory is allocated.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I agree i assumed I would have nearly 4gb of available internal memory. I would love to have that advertised memory available to me. Its not a deal breaker for me due to the fact that every downloaded app is able to be saved to sd.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
That memory is there as advertised. It's just allocated for different resources.

4GB internal, 3GB reserved for weather animations. hehe jk sense is a OS all in itself its sucking up all the space.
here it goes again.

You think that's bad? I love the people who buy hard drives and are clueless who sizes work in terms of bytes and bits.
"Hard drive says it has 1Tb, WTF do I only see 975Gb? RAAAAGEEEE!!!!!!!!!!"
The RUU is only 400MB and only having 1 out of 4 GB is a little extreme... I'm wondering where the rest of it is too.

I usually get over 300 mb. I use Mean ROM though, that plays a factor in how much free RAM I am getting.
I normally have over 250mb free..which is perfectly fine with me except....the phone was advertised to hold 1gb of ram..I did not expect sense to take up almost have of it.

How much memory you have available isnt significant.

I always use the phone..but if I kill all apps using task manager , I get up to 400 mb free. Then random services begin on their own and memory begins to bog down a bit.
Again, memory or lag isn't a prob for me. Just would love to use the full ram

Linux based systems don't work the same way as windows based systems. Available RAM is not very important. I would advise not using a task manager or service killing application. Instead... Use the home button to exit an application that you intend to use again soon and the back button to exit an application that you are finished with. Allow android to handle RAM by itself.

Actually they work highly similarly, since Vista. Both OSes use large amounts of RAM for cache, since there is literally zero reason not to. There's no performance impact. In fact, it's usually worse if you try to maintain a high level of free RAM, since it means no caching (slower app loading).
The things is, review says that it only has 13GB user available memory. Is this enough?
I use this to play games, music, photos and software mostly. will it be enough?
If I install a custom rom, will there be more space?

Yeah I think if you have an unlocked bootloAder you can have the whole 16gb, the space is sufficient for me, because I dont really put much on my phone, just music, pics, and apps

i have an xperia S, never used more than 7GBs (and i reached this only by shooting 1 hour of 1080p video)
i think that whenever you have 4-5GBs, you are fine if you are careful
Also cloud is the new generation do no cares about space when you have dropbox

Hello
I just got the LG Optimus G AT&T, I thought the specification for phone memory is 16 GB, but it only has about 11 GB available to start with?
Is that correct? Just want to confirm.
Thank you,

The system partition is 1.4GBs alone but there are a couple of other partitions that vary in size. A lot of the reserved space is unused.

Not sure. I guess technically speaking Yes is could be reclaimed but I doubt it would happen. When CM 10 came out for the Captivate they kept tweaking the partition layout because at first they allowed too much space and then they changed it again to allow less space. The big problem is when they kept changing it, it would wipe the whole device including internal SD. We may see a new partition layout when CM 10.1 comes out but again I doubt it. If you download SD Maid and click Advanced on the first screen you can see a list of locations and the allotted storage for each (see screenshot).

Depends on what you install. Mine was like 9 gigs.
The storage device won't have 16GB of space anyway, not after it's formatted. You get 14.7GB. Then the stock ROM is about 1.2GB -- before installing it on the drive. The OS gets a partition of several gigabytes to reserve space and keep knuckleheads from stuffing the drive with crap.
The AT&T version comes with a blank 16GB SD card pre-installed, in addition to the 16GB of internal storage. If that's not enough space, you can buy a 64GB SD card separately.
Is that the biggest memory card you can use in OG, 64GB?
yep. havent tried a 128gb one (if they exist) but with 64gb it works fine and it's the max specified in specs.

o_o; Do people really need all that space..? I think the ~27-32 is fantastic. Hell, I was fine with 8 on my Inspire 4g. Now people are talking about 128gb? Ya'll are nuts..
Be glad you get that much. the AT&T One X only had 9.7 GB free out of the box. HTC/AT&T used up almost HALF of the storage.
