Hi! My service bars will sometimes completely drop (I am in full coverage area), and I can't call/send text messages, then it will come back randomly.
I am not sure what caused this, i have tried different radios (EC01,EC09,ED01,ED05) and they all seem to do the same thing.
Any ideas on a fix for this?
Thanks!
(currently on MIUI)
Update: It happens when I am trying to send a text message normally, at the exact same time my service will switch from 3G to 1X.. this is really starting to annoy me. Any ideas guys?
^^occurs now without sending messages
Update #2: Flashed DL09 Stock Eclair Rom, everything booted up fine, did *228 opt 1 & 2, for some reason option 2 wouldn't work, i had to retry it about 4 times before it worked.
I am in a full coverage area and only receiving 0-1 bar of service, and I should be getting 3G but keep locking on to the 1x more often than not
& THIS IS ON THE STOCK ROM which i originated from. I just don't get it
I may just try going in to verizon and getting a replacement? I just don't understand what caused this.
Since your on miui, I would think ec09 radio should be your best bet..have you done a*228 option 2 on ec09? In my experience the ec09 radio has been the best one hands down.
Also the 3g symbol disappearing the moment you send a text is normal and you haven't necessarily lost 3g..it will switch to 1x to send and receive texts/mms.

I have tried EC09 on MIUI and it didn't change anything. When I do *228 it says it completed through the voice on the phone, but the text on the phone says that it failed, so then I just reboot.
This issue has persisted now on ALL Roms, Eclair, Froyo, GB, MIUI MTD or CM7, it hasn't mattered. Or it doesn't matter what radio.
I went into Verizon today and am having a replacement sent to me, so hopefully I will never have this issue again but am scared to try again since this problem has occurred previously...
Now no matter what radio/rom combo whether froyo, eclair, or gb I am on,
my DATA will either not even download ANYTHING from the market or even connect, and if it does it is slow as nails and doesn't ever finish the download. It is the oddest thing. I have always done clean flashes, but it seems like I have ****ED UP my fascinate, it doesn't make sense though because it is all software and not hardware...
^I have tested this on 3 rome already, stock ED01, EF voodoo, and MIUI, ALL of them do the same thing, and this is with clean flashes, clean modem and cam stuff
i just don't understand. I have only made software changes, always used a pit file, only bricked my phone once, and it was a soft brick..

I flashed my Verizon XV6800 to DCD 3.1.2 Radio 3.39..
I have always had 1 bar at home and barely one bar at my office. with my last 3 phones reception was identical. I'd drop maybe every 10th - 15th call at home and every 5th - 10th call at my office. This was no big deal, I'd call back and finish. Text messages / MMS incoming calls were always reliable. (Rarely an incoming call would just go to voicemail and not ring)
SO..
I flashed my 6800.. Everything works great everywhere except the office. I can’t receive Text messages.. Maybe every hour or so, 30 Texts will flood in at once. (I get a lot of text messages from server monitoring software.) My Phone will not ring any longer(only at the office). All incoming calls go to voicemail. I assume that since the Office had poor reception.. losing just a bit of signal would knock me out completely.
Anyway.. GPS doesn’t help if I can’t get calls where I need them the most, so I flashed back to stock... and I STILL have this issue. My phone no longer works at my office.
I have ruled out coincidental tower issues in the area.. my co-worker has the same phone with untouched stock software.
In debug, our signals are identical. All other version numbers and settings are identical. His phone works fine. When sending a Text through vtext.com to both phones, his gets the message immediately, my phone will receive it after an hour or longer.. sometimes 3 or 4 hours later. Outgoing calls drop after 30 seconds.. the phone is now unusable at the office.
Other than swapping out the phone... can anyone tell me if there are any settings i can compare or check on? Perhaps the reflash back to stock kept some settings or something? I know there are tweaks like setting how often your phone polls the tower for a call etc... Things like this could have an effect maybe?
Anyway.. After 2 days of searching and playing with settings.. I figured I was better off with 3.1.2 / 3.39 since the phone dont work anymore at the office anyway. so now I'm back to that.
should I try 3.35 or 3.37 Radio??
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Did you install the Verizon Carrier cab?
Yes on the 3.1.2 firmware.
Obviously not when I flashed back to the stock because it doesn't need it.... right?
Also.. I used a PPCGeeks Thread for the Flashing back to stock. (Maybe this helps)

Right. Have you tried OTA programming?
Yeah, Each time I've flashed.. I first run the OTA both option 1 and 2. then I usually need to call VZW for my AKey, or to reset the data Services because they do not work.. they have been cool each time though
I haven’t actually tried OTA FROM the office... because i cant hold a call long enough to have it complete. I'm not sure if the location matters though.
I can certainly get the phone swapped, but the first thing i'll wanna do with the new one is try DCD 3.1.2.. Unless there is a recommendation on a different Rom / Radio?
I've read a good many of your posts on other threads and you seem to be good at this stuff... so I'm willing to try whatever you recommend.
Also I seriously appreciate your time.

PRI 1.35_002
Ok try rolling back to the 51020 PRL.
Download the attached file, unzip the PRL, and copy it to your phone.
Dial ##775 send.
Enter 000000 for unlock code.
Tap the box underneath Setting to highlight it, then click Menu->Edit.
Browse to where you put the prl file (51020.prl), and open it, then click OK.
Click Menu->Ok to update it and let the device reset.
See if this helps your issues.
I get Turn on LPM failed.
Maybe I should not try it from the storage card... let me try again.
** Update: It did update the PRL when i moved it off the SD Card.
However I sent 3 text messages and called the phone twice from my desk.. No change.

did you recently get an aluminum or metal case?
also, what is your slot cycle index under modem settings in EPST?
Actually I have a custom case I made myself out of Lead.. it gives the phone a nice weight.. LOL.. No... No cases or anything.. However.. I know this should be irrelevant but..
I went on vacation for a week and got an extended battery the day I was leaving. The day I got back I flashed my phone FROM stock.
Had my issues at the office..
Flashed Back...
Still had issues...
Decided that.. MAYBE the extended battery being thicker and all is blocking signal... Swapped back to normal battery.. No good.
Went back to DCD312
Slot Cycle was 2... I just now changed it to 1 and it makes no difference.
did you happen to flash the stock RADIO with the stock ROM? flashing back the stock radio would most likely screw your device, but ive flashed the stock ROM several times with no problems.
try flashing to the current radio 3.39. heres just the radio, without the Sprint ROM. Radio 3.39
it can be tricky flashing it without a non-SDHC card. PM me if you dont have one.
after that, just flash a compatible ROM and it should fix everything.
Well the whole procedure was this:
1) Stock phone
2) Run unlocker
3) Flash 3.1.2 rom
4) Device locks at boot
5) Flash 3.39 Radio from SD Card
5a) Ran VZW Provider Cab.. from DCDs 3.1.2 page.
6) Had the reception issues mentioned.
7) Run Titan Relocker
8) Flash Stock VZW Rom that includes original Radio Version.
9) Reception Issues remain. (Lived with it for 2 days)
10) Repeat steps 1-5a above.
so I'm on 3.1.2 / 3.39 again right now.
I CAN flash the radio again... I guess... i already have it on a 512 SD card ready to flash.
Outside of DCD 3.1.2 What would you say is the most recommended / stable Rom / Radio Combo?

Yeah I read that somewhere.. but the instructions I followed had me flash the rom, wait for the device to lock up on the verizon screen... then use PWR+CAM+RESET and flash the radio.
Even if it were in the wrong order, wouldnt flashing back to the VZW Stock Rom that includes the original stock radio still work as it did previously?
(maybe the answer is obviously not?.. Perhaps I sould reflash everything in a different order?)
So I flashed back to Stock again last night. Had to call and have data services and AKey reset... as usual.
I'm at the office now, and so far I had several people send me test SMS and only one of them took a while to show up. The others came in pretty fast.
Here are the differences between this time, and the last time I flashed back to stock.
1) I DID NOT install any applications at this point... I have ONLY Configured my Exchange Activesync Email.
2) I do not have the extended battery installed.
3) I reset before the verizon custom cabs installed from the stock ROM.
It's only been 10 minutes, but so far it looks promising... I'll update if that changes.
**UPDATE
Still can not hold a call... Text messages are now taking 10 - 20 minutes to arrive. My co-worker with the same phone still has no issues. Will stop by Verizon after work to have it swapped.
Stopped at Verizon.. Explained that the phone worked most places but just not at my office.. Explained that my co-worker has the same phone and does not have issues.
I expected to get a lot of crap.. but they were cool. They tested the phone, and claimed there was an issue. They didn't have any in stock, and have to mail me a new one.
SO... I havent seen many people complain about reception issues with thier radio upgrades... I'm wondering, should I upgrade the Roms and radio on the new one? Should I assume my reception issue was hardware and not caused by the software?
I'm still hoping someone with a lot of Rom experience can provide me with some recommendations.. I hear GPS Locks are flaky on DCD3.1.2..
I posted this on the froshedyo page too.
For about a week now my fiance and I have noticed that our service has been getting really bad. We have verizon and usually have great service anywhere we go and where we live we have usually full service but lately its been going to no service and then back to kinda full and then full.
EWhat I was wondering is is it a rom thing or could it be that the baseband version we have is sprint so maybe that is causing the bad service or just verizon taking time switching over the towers to 4g.
We really love this rom and dont want to switch if we dont have to. What can we do to go back to the way our service was before? Thank you for any help

Have you noticed any difference in 3G speeds, call quality, or sending texts? It could be that the phone is doing it. Which radio did you put on? You can flash xtrSense and put what changes on the phone you need to on there. Just make a NAND backup in Amon_RA and you can go back to the way you want.

The speed seems fine it just drops the calls and picks them right back up once it gets service again. The radio we have is the one that came with the froshedyo v10 rom 2.42.01.04.27
Is flashing xtr sense the only way to fix it or can I fix it on the rom we have? Also would flashing a verizon radio make a difference. Thanks for the help so far.

The dropped call issue is a 2.2 issue. It's not the rom or the radio. It's a known issue with all 2.2 Eris roms. Unfortunately no fix has been found for it yet.
Right I knew the dropped call issue is a froyo thing but the phone also goes in and out of service while just sitting there not even doing anything to the phone and it never did that with our stock 2.1. Maybe it is just verizon. I dunno.

I just wanted to make sure you know that rooted ROMs usually don't include radios, and FroShedYo definitely doesn't. The reason is that screwing up a flash of a radio be pretty dangerous, so the rooted ROMs leave the radio alone.
Traditionally, once using a rooted ROM, the only way to get a new radio version is by manually flashing just the radio.
* Note that the purpose of this post has been for educational purposes only. Any use other than for that which it was intended will result in me complaining to my girlfriend, who is larger than I am, and will kick your a**. j/k
So I've done a lot of searching and haven't really found anything definitive. I've found that with some roms I'll lose GPS signal after a certain amount of time (say 10-30 minutes) and have to turn GPS off and back on or reboot the phone. I saw something about flashing a different radio may make a difference. Kinda just wanted to see other peoples thoughts on the issue or if maybe there is something else I can do before I go flashing a different radio.
Currently running CELB 4.1 and baseband 2.42.01.04.27 and I have the issue.. I've had it with most of Tazz's roms as well. KaosFroyo is the only one Ive used that I've never seen the issue with, but I'm really diggin CELB right now and this is the ONLY issue I've got with it.
Have you tried GPS status in the market? I know it will help you lock in a signal, so it would make sense that it would also help keep your GPS locked in.

I have now.. I did the reset and download options in the program. Too bad this isn't something I can quickly test. I'll report back with the results. Thanks!
I have noticed this as well. Last time it happened to me it was 4:30 in the morning, and the "GPS lost" message came up about 180 seconds before I had to make two freeway changes in an area I'd never been before. (CELB 3.9 and same radio as your case). Fortunately for me I had reviewed the route, so I more or less knew what to do.
If I recall correctly, it has always happened after the Nav app had been running for a fair bit of time - at least 30 minutes or more.
However, I don't know if it is something about the root ROMs or not - I started using rooted ROMs back in March or so, so I really don't have a tremendous operating baseline on stock 2.1 ROMs to compare it to. Maybe it is a problem there, too!
If I recall correctly, the last time it happened, I just pulled up GPS Status and asked it reload the aGPS state (without exiting the Nav app), and the Nav app seemed to gracefully recover.
Annoying? Yeah. I don't know what can be done about it, though - like the "undead calls" problem, it happens so infrequently that it is hard to know whether or not a ROM change actually fixes the problem.
bftb0
I had the same problem with every 2.2 rom I used GPS with. I decided to go back to 2.1 because I have been needing GPS alot more often lately but I havent tested it out since I made the switch. I'll try it out today and report the results tonight.
This same thing seemed to happen on the 2.1, CyanogenMod 5 based ELB by Conap as well. If it is happening with all of the 2.2 ROMs, I wonder if it's just a CyanogenMod issue?
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6812308#post6812308 (this was not the only person reporting it, if you search that thread.)
I really don't think it's ALL 2.2 CM roms though. I've gone on 7 hour car trips with Kaos Froyo without a single drop.. to and from. I've seen another theory somewhere around here about it being certain hardware revisions that act this way with certain software builds. At lease we've got a thread dedicated to this issue now.. maybe we can get something figured out.
Still don't know if the GPS status program helps.. I left navigation turned on for a bit sitting in my house and it stayed connected for the half an hour I left it, just don't think that's gonna be an accurate test with not moving around and all. If it doesn't work I will try a different radio.. I saw somewhere one guy had good luck with a specific older version radio. If that's what it comes down to I'll try.
I have been having issues with the GPS working on both of my phones while using 2.2 roms. I switched to 2.1 a few days ago and I used the GPS on my way to work this morning and didnt have any issues. I also had to flash Senseable a couple of months ago while on a road trip because I was tired of loosing the GPS signal every half hour. It may be a CM thing.
Im having the same issues as well. Haven't found a fix yet..
I've had this issue, after I flashed KaosFroyo(v36), and XTR(4 i think). I recently unrooted using Flashback21 v1 and flashed with the radio included. I have gone back to xtr 5 now and have had no lost gps in over a week. Don't have a clue as to why. hope it helps someone.

I have flashed the radio directly with the verizon zip file that is around and I still get inconsistent results But it always drops a signal eventually in about a 1/2 hour

I've seen it on several ROM's as well. From what i've messed with, it doesn't seem to be dependent on the autokiller memory preset, radio firmware, or amount of overclocking i'm doing. It doesn't seem to be dependent on how many programs are running either. I usually have nav and pandora running while i'm in the car, and sooner or later, the gps poops out.
I feel like it seems to happen less, now that i'm back to using the on-demand governor. but that could just be in my head.
I've had to go back to a 2.1 rom because of it. Its very annoying when the goa signal gets lost right before the exit ramp.

Im thinking of going back to a 2.1 rom as well...
I have also seen the same results on any 2.2 or higher rom. I have since returned to XTRRom 5.0 and have not had a single problem with GPS on any of my jogging runs. I definitely think it is a CM thing. At least on my phone.
Using kaosfroyo v39 and I flashed that sprint phone radio on my eris and haven't had any gps issues. In fact, just the opposite. Mine would lock up before the v39 and the radio flash
I flashed that radio as well and today not one issue at all. Will test more tomorrow

Today I even flashed back to the July 2010 version (2.42.01.04.27). the gps dropped out almost every 5 minutes while i was driving around. that's the worst i've seen. So i flashed back to the 2.42.02.10.29 sprint radio again. I haven't seen very good navigation performance on the v1.1 gingershedbread overall, actually. my position on the gps nav doesn't update very often, although it seemed like the voice instructions were still pretty well timed as usual.
I recently switched radios and went to 2.0 and installed the BAMF sense 3.0 rom. All was okay, wifi wasn't working so I switched to a different BAMF gingerbread rom and noticed 3g wasn't working.
Then I switched back to my old configuration, factory rom and radio so I could diagnose what my issue was. I saw fixes online posted when eHPRD was down to dial ##778# enter the password and then disabling eHPRD and going to "enabled". This fixed my issue.
So here comes my question. If 3g only works when eHPRD is disabled is it my sim that is broken? ALSO I cant check if 4g works because I used phone info to change to "CDMA auto (PRL)" and I can't switch back to the LTE mode because my network types are really odd. Are these options different because of CM7 or because I have eHPRD disabled, or because my sim is likely dead?
Pic of network type options from the Phone Info screen is attached.
Don't take this offensively, but did you try scrolling the window down? I see in your pic there are lower options not visible in the window without scrolling.
Just checking all bases
Always safe to check! The last 3 options are "evdo only" "gsm/cdma auto (prl)" and "unknown"
I didn't bother to post them because before I had about 4 different options I think, I have no idea how I got all these random options. Is it kernel related, radio related, rom related, or dead sim related -_-
Hmm ok just checking.
Well that is very odd indeed. I am running MR2 + Das BAMF Gingerstripped with Imoseyon 3.4.0 GB Sense lean kernel and do have some odd connectivity issues, even with 3g. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it might be advisable for you to reflash the radio, then reflash the ROM and do a full data wipe factory reset. I mean that sounds like a very bad problem and personally dealing with Verizon and SIM cards is a royal PITA which you should leave as a last resort. So try doing a completely fresh install imo. It's the only way to rule out any uncertainty.

Yeah I forgot to mention that I have reflashed back to the older radios and to the news, I have tried seemingly every combination. The only way I can get 3g to work is to disable the eHPRD.

I had a similar situation on a different rom. Everything was working fine until I updated to a newer rom build, and I lost 4G. I figured it was verizon messing with the towers, so I didn't worry about it. But two days later, I still had no 4G (I still had 3G). I went on a weekend trip to another 4G area, and no dice. I flashed every combo of rom & radio and couldn't get it to work. When I got back home, I went to verizon & swapped sim cards, and still no 4G. I finally went back to bone stock and got 4G again. I have no idea why this happened, but be prepared to go back to stock if reflashing & sim swapping doesn't help.

It appears you both were right. Went back to complete stock and I have 3g working in eHPRD mode. Willing to bet 4g works again too. Thanks for the help...I guess I will update this thread if I find anything new out.
Just as an update...not sure what I might have done wrong before...
But I went back to stock with root, then went to the CM7 that worked with MR1, then I went to CM7 that worked with MR2, then I put MR2 in.
Everything is working perfectly now.
Glad its working fine. I personally wouldn't advise messing with any particular Radio settings aside from switching it from CDMA + LTE/EVDO to CDMA auto (PRL). Anything else and you're just opening up a can of worms that no one really knows anything on.
Hi! I was wondering if anyone is experiencing this problem. I should be having full 3G all the time where I am right now, but my phone will sometimes switch to "1X" and then once i load something data it switches back to 3G, but just gets kind of annoying to see. It has loaded the 1X also, it doesn't always switch back to the 3G immediately.
This has been going on for a while, and I have done a ESN swap with another smartphone but it still does it.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Oh, and I am not sure if this has anything to do with anything, but sometimes when i reboot my phone my 3G icon just DOESN'T APPEAR AT ALL, so i have to power down and back up. Is this normal? I am on MIUI 1.7.29, and it has done it on other previous roms before. Just GETS ANNOYING.
Try to Turn Off The Phone. Then Leave It Off For 5minutes.
If That Doesn't Work Try To Do A Factory Reset Or Re-install Your Rom (If your using one)
Hate to say it, but I've had my phone since last November and it has always done this. The radio in our phones doesn't do such a good job of grabbing signal. I can have full bars 3G one second and no bars 1x the next. No combination of Roms/Kernels/Radios or ESN swaps have ever fixed this for me. I have just learned to accept it and deal with it. You can try to bring this up with Verizon and they might send you a new one, but it will likely have more problems. Sorry to be a downer but that's just how it is.

Yeah these phones definitely aren't "perfect", i mean how could they be if they make a new one every 2 seconds,

my recomendation is:
- flash the ec09 modem via odin( the ec09 modem is NOT the problem for borked sd cards)
- boot phone
-*228 option 2
Im currently running the powerwashed v1 rom, pbj novoodoo kernal, ec09 modem and I have not missed a call or had my data switch to 1x in almost 2 weeks now.

Have you tried a ed05 rom, kernal, ec09 radio?

my recomendation is:
- flash the ec09 modem via odin( the ec09 modem is NOT the problem for borked sd cards)
- boot phone
-*228 option 2
Im currently running the powerwashed v1 rom, pbj novoodoo kernal, ec09 modem and I have not missed a call or had my data switch to 1x in almost 2 weeks now.

So I flashed the EC09 radio that you recommended and did the *228 option 2 and it said successful, then I did a power down, power up, and my 3G disappeared;/ , so i powered down, powered up again and the 3G was back, so far it has been decent, but in my house I had the 1x locked for a good 30 seconds before switching back to 3G, on the ED01 radio it would normally switch back faster than that. so I don't think it worked :/,
any other options?? (or should I try to get Verizon to send me a new phone?)
