[Q] GingerDX 10 & QR Droid - XPERIA X8 Themes and Apps

I just installed QR Droid in my Xperia X8 gingerDX10.
Unfortunately the app crashes when I try to acquire a qr code from camera.
I didn't try any other app, nor remove/reinstall the app.
Anybody can suggest a working app for reading qr codes with gingerdx-10?
Many thanks in advance

Market restrictions on X10 mini pro?

Can't find a x10 mini pro forum? Anyway, my wife has one, and she's missing a LOT of apps from the Market that I find from my Desire. Are there restrictions on what apps show up, and can they be switched off?

It depends where you bought the phone from. different countries have different availabilities with apps.
also dont forget the x10 mini screen is really small - screen resolution limits the use of many apps. perhaps SE has taken initiative and removed all the apps that dont work with the minis from their market
When devs post apps to the market they can list certain requirements that the app needs to work. One of those requirements can be screen resolution. If the phone doesn't match the requirements then the app won't show up in the market. Simple as that. However there is nothing stopping you from installing the apps manually. Often times the app works perfectly fine anyway. I have the Mini and have tried it with several apps. Some will have a messed up UI look but it still works.

OMG... so the screen resolution is the culprit here...
I was thinking of getting it for my wife...
Does the FB work well for the mini Pro?? cos she do a lot of FB on her phone...
Yeh facebook works perfectly. Resolution is not crap, almost every app I have tried works perectly, many from apktor.

What about office applications? My main reason for getting this phone in particular is android+hard qwerty
Documents to go worked perfectly on my Tattoo (it has the same resolution)
Tattoo also had a market fix that allowed all apps to be shown. Only problem was: it needed root... But I guess you guys will have that soon
As nattiii said, Documents To Go works perfectly. I have tried a bunch of note taking apps and they work perfect.
I could not get SWYPE to work btw, an error message about resolution too low came up
I've been using the appbrain web downloader app, which allows direct app downloads from their website. It can browse without restriction, so I've been able to install a few apps that are hidden on the market, like Skyfire, MixZing, lots of clocks, More Icons, and a game called Newton.
The only thing that didn't work too well is Newton. It scales, but the process of scaling slows it down a bit too much. Skyfire works brilliantly!

@ayewhy I was wondering how you are getting on having been using the e72 just thats what i have just now and have pretty much convinced myself the x10 mp is a much better phone for features. Any thoughts or regrets? Cheers Kenny

I was using Ovi Maps as my main navigation because it is brilliant so that's one feature I miss in my old E72... the thing with the E72 is that it badly needed better software and as an owner of it since about Dec09 I realised it early on with lots of random crashes, calls dropping, needing to pop out battery at least once a week, etc. - main thing for me is having a qwerty keyboard having being a Bold9000 owner before, I felt E72 had the best keyboard on the market. The minipro keyboard is good though so I don't have any regrets. The E72 was very slim in the pocket and the minipro is very similar because its still small in size. The fun part of owning a minipro is that, even tho its android 1.6, the software works great and feels good to use. Everything you wanted in the E72, like strong email support (exchange for example) is all there. I liked the front facing cam on the E72, but honestly I never used it! The main device cameras are the same quality and both very impressive. I feel happy going to the minipro and think the E72 was mainly let down by buggy software and poor support from nokia. Hope this was useful!

How to confirm if Dual touch was installed successfully

Hello everyone.
How do I determine if I correctly installed the dual touch properly?
I used the dummies guide and flashed it successfully, but how do i know if its working?
The kernel information in the about phone section did not change.
The flash tool stated the kernel.sin was indeed successfully flashed.
I am running Z's froyo 2.2.1 beta 3 with hotfix1.
try open your browser and pinching the zoom like in iPhone.
If it works, DT works.
open gallery, pick picture then zoom the picture...and of course using 2 fingers...
what about downloading 'multi touch test' from the apps market.
initially i wasn't able to check if it was done so i had this installed and it seems to work.
when browsing facebook pics, the dual touch should work
for games with dual touch should work.
for mine, i wasn't able to do root explorer editing, so my mediascape, browser aren't dual touch.
ye, just download a test app from market or try it in ur browser or google maps
The only place its not working for me is the browser. The test worked and the gallery test worked. why not the browser

The standard browser suits me the best

Please recommend me a ROM...

Ok guys, as per the title can you please recommend a rom for me to use?
I've been using Cyanogen 6 which performed wonderfully, but I need to use an app which relies on the barcode reader app, so I've had to switch back to the stock 2.1 ROM.
Urgh...
I'd forgotten how poorly the thing performs... I switched back yesterday and I don't know if it is connected but my battery life is rubbish too :/
So, I'm looking for a nice lite rom which will let me use the barcode scanner app. Doesn't really have to have anything else, if it has no market I could flash it from xRecovery I guess and download whatever I need?
TIA!

First, why post something like this in Android Dev section?! You should've posted in Q&A. Perhaps the mods'll be so nice to move this thread.
Second, if you want full functionality (camera, HD recording, ...), you can switch to a speed mod like the one from kxhawins. These mods are based on stock ROM and everything works here.
Besides that, there's an barcode scanner app on the market that works with most of the custom ROMs, but I don't remember the name. You could try the search button, though
Cheers,
qwer23
Baaaaad sections post your questions in q&a not hear !!!!!
You can use the barcode scanner "scanlife" with custom roms as well, like freex10. That is my personal preference, camera works, barcode scanner works with that app (scanlife), videocamera works with an app called "videocam illusion", and it gets awesome quadrant and linpack scores (1500 and 36 respectively)...
Can't you take a photo with Vignette (working fine on rendeiro's Cyanogen Rom) and import it into a barcode reader ?
Really 2.1 custom Roms despite being waaay better than the stock cannot match 2.2 Roms in performance.
Ah unfortunately the app I'm using leverages 'barcode scanner' app so I can't really use another scanner (tried Scanlife as suggested).
Importing via Vignette isn't really a convenient or speedy option unfortunately.
Think I might have to switch back to a 2.2 rom and work round it, can't stay on stock 2.1 after tasting 2.2 lol

Universal Multi-touch available yet for X10 mini pro?

Even with the 2.1.1.a.0.6 firmware update, multitouch still doesnt work on the entire system, it says it works for only maps and browser, but for me, doesnt even work at all.
So, just wondering, has anyone found a way to enable multitouch universally?
