Anyone know how to re-calibrate the touchscreen on Touchpads? 1/4 of my screen isn't responding or will be off when it does respond to input
I'd probably just suggest a hard reset on it.
Just quoting someone else on this:

Same thing happened to me. Traced it to a USB power adaptor that didn't produce enough power. Does it still have deadspots when:
a. On battery
b. On the official HP charger

This is the exact same behaviour I had but since you don't answer the questions we ask it's impossible to help you.

Ah sorry, yes I've done everything.
Even did a full erase reset.
And it behaves exactly the same way on battery and on the official HP charger?

Yes, actually did first setup w/o charging it first. Noticed that left side of keyboard wasn't letting me input certain letters.
Someone had a touchscreen issues after using WebOS Doctor to restore the tablet. All I can suggest it try to reflash with Doctor and see if it helps the situation, other than that it would look like you have faulty hardware
do a firmware reflash via sd card
Are you trolling? There's no SD card on a Touchpad.
Well talked to HP, and they told me to either return it to where I bought it (Office Depot), which I promptly told em that I'm pretty sure they won't have any in stock to replace it. Or send it back for repairs, and they have to decide if it was a manufacturer defect or user damage...
So I went ahead and got a repair ticket, I'd be so pissed if they will charge me to fix it if the damage was caused by shipping & handling from the stores...
I have the exact same issue. I have opened a ticket and will send my device in for repair. Please respond on how HP handles the case.
After I chatted with support and made the ticket, they sent me an overnight UPS package box with instructions which I sent in the same day I received the box that Friday. Didn't get the e-mail stating they were sending me a box till the next Monday though after they had already received the package...
They sent the repaired Touchpad on Friday that the same week, and I scheduled to get it next Tuesday, so Overall it's been exactly 10 days since I shipped it off my Touchpad for repairs.
Everything seems to have gone very smoothly, thank god they didn't charge me.
I have the same issue that the right most part seems to be not that responsive.
The right 1/4th part of the screen seems to bit of having calibration issues. It is like the launcher icon needs to be clicked on bit left side than the actual icon to make it work.
What can i do ? Any solution ?

Finally got my new Transformer Prime from Best buy!
Sad news is all I can do is turn it on and watch the android tell me to start.
The touchscreen is completely unresponsive. I am on hold with Best Buy phone support right now (the lady has no idea what a transformer prime is).
I have tried cold boot by holding power and volume down for 5 secs...
Tried while charging and on batteries. I do not have a dock or a stylus.
Do you guys have any other ideas I can try before I punt this POS back to BB?
Thank you
Let the battery discharge all the way until it shuts off, charge it up for a half hour or so and try it out again. It seems to have worked for some people in a thread around here somewhere who had their touchscreen stop working after an update.
I let the battery discharge all the way until it shut off. This was not an easy task. Had to stay up to keep the screen on. When I restarted I had the same issue.
Unless there are any other ideas I may just have to return this thing.
Another question... Is it worth exchanging? Should I wait for the Tegra 3 Lenovo with 2 gigs ram? I am a very sad Panda
Man, its stuff like this that should clue manufacturers in to allowing users to pull a battery. I have had funky issues with my Nexus One and not sure what I would do if I could not pull the battery in that puppy.
I hate to think of spending 6-8 hours trying to discharge the battery on the Prime for something like this.
I would call ASUS and see if they have any tricks you can try. If not then return through BestBuy. Not sure what the turn around time would be or how that relates to other T3 releases.
You could also try holding down the power button until you get the Eee Pad boot screen. I think that works like a warm boot.

The reset button should disconnect the battery for a short period of time, so that would be kinda the same isn't it?
Where is the "Reset button" I already tried cold boot.
This is your chance everyone, before I send back to Best Buy. Any ideas. I don't care if it bricks it as I will prob send back.
Is there any special order to the drain power and restart. I tried restarting with the device plugged in. Should I take the time to try again to drain the power and try powering on with the device not plugged in?

If you have hit the reset, cold booted it and ran the battery down, I am not sure what it left to try if you cannot navigate through the device. Maybe if you had the keyboard you could get in and install a touchscreen tester or something, but not sure how much I would trust your device if it still does not register touch after all that. Probably better to just return it and get another.
Honestly, I love the tablet and haven't had any serious issues with it. Sounds like you just got a dud.
I am starting to agree with you. If they had some in stock I wouldn't give it a second thought. Now I get to wait for Who knows how long to get another one.
I have put in an Esupport ticket with ASUS. I will update you on what they say.
FYI when it starts it only shows the home buttons for a split second. It pops up a small back box that says English. Is this normal behavior?

It runs through the Google Device setup when you first launch it. I do not remember the exact order, but language would probably be the first option.
I assume this looks like a drop box where you would have the option of other languages, but of course you would not be able to test without being able to tap.
Those all come up, drop down menu is there and says English as well. What i'm talking about is a small black box appears over the android guy that says English and disappears. This happens in unison with the home buttons on the bottom that also disappear.
I will post a Youtube Video soon so you all can see.
Thank you for all your responses thus far!
UPDATE: I am not gonna post a video as my video camera is not yet working with ICS custom ROM.. I don't feel like putting an old Rom on. Sorry.
Truth is I give up. I am taking the prime back to Best Buy on lunch break for full refund. Think I'll go buy a Go Kart.
Thanks again for all the help!
UPDATE2: I really really want a Transformer prime... I decided to once again order from Best Buy.
This morning 2 hours after I ordered my 3rd Prime, Best Buy canceled the order.
Best Buy support said it was cause I changed the shipping address to my UPS store.
So they just Canceled the order.. I am now taking the large hint the universe is giving me.
I am not meant to have a Prime
So I've always been really carfull plugging in my charger. Never had an Issue. I get a Wifi Flyer for my wife for Christmas and she has already broken the charging port. It appears that the internal tab has been pushed into the devise so it won't engage the charger. Anyone experience this?
My plan is to take it apart and attempt to repair the port. Haven't found the right driver yet to get the screws off the back. It appears to be a star bit and a 1.27mm hex won't work.
Anyways after the case is off, I'm guessing it will take a little soldering to put it back in place as I'm not hopefull it just popped out and can be pushed back. Any Advice would be welcome.

There is a dock, but of course the plug will be the same, probably harder to align then the cable.

Any progress? Looks like I will have to deal with this too.
Call HTC and send it back for warranty repair. My Flyer had a damaged LCD and we sent it to HTC and they repaired it for free.
I bought mine "open box" from Tech4Less in November, it was originally from Best Buy. It is worth a shot in my opinion. I figured mine was a long shot since I had no proof when and where I bought it from, but they fixed it anyways!
waranteed
I had the same problem and I sent it back and they repaired it for free. Make sure you have a backup as they factory reset

Dear Friend,
i just received my asus prime befor 2 weeks and i have slightly use it normal used. and just yesturday i got this black screen with white lines. i dont know why and how but its always there even wail booting.
i think the internal cable for the screen discounted i have open the prime but i did not found any lose cable please advice me. i have attached for you the photo.
also while i am searching for simular problem i found someone upload a video with same issue so that's common problem with asus prime.
Seeing as you've already opened it, I assume you've unplugged/plugged in the video cable, or at least checked it is properly in there?
If so, an issue with the screen itself or with the nVidia chip, maybe MoBo?
Can you hold the power button and feel the device actually power on/off? Maybe try plugging it in via mHDMI to a TV to see if the tablet is actually functioning?

If you hold the power down after about 10-15 seconds it should vibrate. This should indicate its cold booting. If it does not then you have an additional problem besides the screen. The screen lines from my experience with LCD panels is either going connection issues or damaged ribbon cable or the connectors on either the LCD or the circuit board. You can also check if its turning on completely by plugging it into your PC via usb and see if it'll recognize it. But ya your best bet is to send it in.
i am from outside the US. just before few days i ship the asus prime. and yesterday i have received a call from the shipping company that they need to charge me 60$ for Tax. i want there and pay for them. i was very supprize its used product and i just send it for repair !! so its cost me 2 much to ship it and tax and return the shipment again. i hope that asus will solve the problem quickly.

This is my second padphone in 3 weeks and both devices have lost mobile data connection. The first time AT&T told me it was because of a crack on the screen. Made no sense but I paid the 200$ for insurance and got it replaced now the replacement is doing the same thing. For no reason at all I will loose all connection and the phone says no service and then comes back after a random amount of time.
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?

I had the same problem too. Just change the sim card to a new one and it will be alright again
Have you updated the IMEI with at&t? I had some small issues with my data until I updated. Tether didn't work either. It would give my computer an IP but wouldn't pass traffic.

Did you lose power first? Were you in tablet mode when it happened? You should check out the "Phone Died" thread and contact [email protected] You are not alone and this seems to be a fairly widespread issue. It was not the crack on the screen. Scott's email is [email protected].

Yes the phone was in the tablet while charging. This happened to me 3 times. 1st device I had taken the phone out of the charger and it wouldn't power on until I connected the phone directly to the charger. But it didn't have data connection when it finally powered up. The 2nd device I disconnected the charger from the tablet then pulled it out but it still happened. 3rd device I disconnected the charger from the tablet and tried powering on the device through the tablet. Still same problem the thing wouldn't turn on. So i pulled the phone out plugged it to the charger held the power button. It came one and as you guess no network. But in my case I get no network at all. So if there is a fix please let me know because this is very frustrating. I have had 3 of the phones and all of them have now had the same exact problem. My opinion is that this is a malfunction with the tablet. Because from my experience it never happens when the phone is charging directly through the charging cable.
No fix yet...

Thanks Acriar for the additional information. So far every failure like this is pretty consistently in conjunction with the tablet. No, I don't have a fix. I wish I did, because your reply does not give me much hope for my third device. Again, let [email protected] know. Hopefully they are putting sufficient engineering resources on to this to fix it else the Padfone X's life in the US will be short at best.

Exactly my experience with the first phone. AT&T replaced that one. Didn't replace the one w/ dead pixels.
Similar problems with dropping network
I began having problems with the network dropping 2 weekends ago. I moved my phone from my pocket to the station, but the station never 'start'. When pulled out, the phone would not start. Neither was low on battery. Finally got the phone to start when I plugged it into the charger. That has happened a few more times since then. After that, the network was totally undependable for the night and next day, despite restarts of all types. I was on a trip, and when I got home the problem continued for the night, but then disappeared the next morning before I could take it to the ATT store. Worked fine a few days, then occasionally could connect and occasionally not. A restart of the phone usually gets the network back - but not always. My wifi connection has always been available when wifi was around, but the LTE is suddenly disappearing fast. Will send note to Scott, but wanted to add to this thread. BTW, great site. Thanks for the info here. Best padfone x forum I've found by far.

For those of you with this problem the answer is to contact Asus. From my analysis when I sent mines in here's the problem. So as you see from my response the phone was over charging when left in the tablet for an extended period of time. Well it's not that the tablet wasn't managing this charge correctly it was the charger as well. I say this because when they returned my device it was accompanied by a new charger, and yes they replaced the tablet as well. But there is a new feature in their UI that request you use the factory charger when charging your device while in the tablet. I checked the numbers on the old charger that i had from my previous phones ( the failed one's before) and it had a different version number on it than the new one they sent. I also noticed some of the AMPs and voltage had been changed. That all said I want to give a big thank you to Asus repair because they are actually an honest bunch, and here's why. So as explained above i, like many of you, have had several of these devices. Just so happened that on the third one I'd been working out on hot day and when I arrived home was still sweating. The wet sensor for the device, for those that don't know, is right on the back where your fingures rest while holding it. As expected I touched it while sweating and it turned red, was unaware of this at the time however. Soon after the third device failed and I tired returning it to At&t. They explained they could not accept it due to the wet sensor. I explained that the phone was not water damaged and the problem that existed was the same as the past devices I returned. But they washed their hands of it and would not take it back. On to Asus; they were taking my tablet in as an RMA and explained they could check the damages on the phone, after I explained my situation. They explained they would let me know the repair cost for the phone before returning the devices. I asked if they would take an honest look at it in this case, explaining that if they found water damage that I would fully pay for the repairs but if the damage was due to the malfunction could they just fix that. Well they, unlike AT&T, did just and replaced the damaged device. I must say it is very rare for a company to have such conviction to its customers and truly appreciate their dedication. And if you are wondering about how the new setup is after the update so far no problems.

And I agree- ASUS's handling of the issue wasn't bad. They even replaced my scuffed tablet dock back cover. But it wasn't the charger- mine went out while discharging, every time. Sometimes within seconds of being docked. I had two different tablet dock hardware versions and both failed on me. It was something in the phone's handling of it, is my guess, seeing as the firmware update seemingly fixed it.
Well, my HP Touchpad died awhile back after a good long run and I am finally getting around to cleaning out my office. I found my old dead Touchpad and some accessories. I have a good condition folio case, a slip case, a neoprene case, and a working touchstone charging dock. If anyone still has a working TP and could use these, let me know and I can ship them out. All I ask is that you pay the shipping. On a side note, if anyone has good advice on how to wipe my TP that would be great. The only thing that still seemingly works is the center button, it lights up and toggles as if it were charging. No combination of buttons will get it to turn on nor is it recognized when plugging in to my PC.
Thanks,
-Tory

It shouldn't be more than $10-15 based on a medium flat rate from USPS, if you want to PM me your address I can give you an exact amount. I won't be able to mail out until the middle of next week as I am leaving for Christmas vacation tomorrow morning. I'll PM you back with shipping cost before I ship it out next week.
I'd like to be back up if the first guy doesn't take it!
My touchpad was bricked to before try holding the power and home button down for at LEAST 2 minutes then plug it in and let it charge for a whole day if need be. That should revamp it these things are Tonka trucks lol.
Hi @laxplaya116,
Trust me, your Touchpad isn't dead... the fact the Power button lights up is an encouraging sign, and is more than mine initially did. I had not used mine in over a year, and when plugged in showed no life at all. Not even the Home button lit up!!! Left it on charge for practically 2 or 3 WEEKS.... (different chargers)
Couldn't find any situ's like mine, and asked for help around here... Which only a couple very kind souls did, but alas that didn't work either... So I started searching other forums, and found some good advice on a Blackberry Playbook website, which has similar symptoms. After a few trickle charges, I was able to bring my Touchpad back to life, and now its as good as new....
Looking back, I can see how sturdy these devices are... Sure they have a charging issue.... But once ya know the tricks, they soon come back to life!!!

The only thing that still seemingly works is the center button, it lights up and toggles as if it were charging. No combination of buttons will get it to turn on nor is it recognized when plugging in to my PC.
Thanks,

Hello from Canada: I just got my touchpad 32 Gig a few weeks ago and have successfully restored it from dead to good. I am now running Evervolv 7.12 Android on it the latest version I think , it just loaded for the first time , anyways I am going to put IPTV with an APK on it , will video the results with my phone and post it here , if there is anyone curious about running IPTV or KODI on the HP Touchpad, (Kitkat 4.4.4 is too low , you need Android 5.0 minimum to run the IPTV apk or Kodi) just leave a message here for me. I am sorta an expert at installing things on these tablets with the help of all of the developers here on XDA so a BIG THANK YOU to all who have contributed to this project. PS: deafasheck: when the center button does not light up it means that the tablet is charging OK. Mine does that too.
