I've been stolen my Atrix so I stopped following it, and I'd like to replace it....
Thanks
when my phone did that it was because it died fully and when i tried to turn it on or charge it with my computer it wouldnt let me . Until i plug it up to my wall , then it finally started charging . when i had hard bricked my phone , i would press the on button and it turned green but then it said error . maybe that will help you ?
Don't really know.
It's what the seller says.
I asked him what he has done to get that, still waiting for the answer...
Stupid thought: maybe the Power On button is broken?
he told me he was going to root it and put a new flash on it and said the battery died while flashing. Ever since, I couldn't get it back to turn on. I read around and people said hard bricking is nearly impossible and this might be soft bricking.
Here is his reply. So, what donc you guys think?

Get a different battery. If phone doesn't boot >> it's dead.
REAL hardbrick
I have hardbricked two Atrixes in less than 30 days. AT&T replaced both of them and never asked anything about me rooting or unlocking. I can't post links here yet, so google "Briefmobile unlock Atrix." That's the exact procedure I followed.
It worked at least two times. The other two times, it burned something inside the phone. It wouldn't turn on at all. I tried plugging it into a USB port, into the wall, and the LED didn't even come on. The guys at AT&T tried different batteries and none of the phones turned on. So I'm on my third Atrix in 30 days.

Yes, but i'need to be sure before buying the Atrix.
Would feel stupid if it really was a hardbrick since i would import from US to France...
And I Also have another battery... The Son of a B**** who stole my Atrix during my holidays didn't have the brain to steal chargers and extra battery while it was clearly sightable... Bitter laugh

My guess is that it's hard bricked. (In some hard brick cases phone won't turn on at all).
Don't you think the person selling it to you tried to do everything possible to fix it before offloading it for cheap?
If you need a cheap phone, get a used one, or a heavily used one. LOL.
What's good in paying ANY money for this phone if it doesn't work and most likely never will?
I had a similar issue after I took a swim with my Atrix It powered up fine after letting it sit for a few days, then I powered it off to put the sim card and memory card in, then plugged in the charger to the phone... It wouldn't come back on.. and a green light would come on when I would try to turn it on... I left it sitting charging for a few days, then 7 days after the swimming incident, right before I was going to buy another Atrix off of craigslist, I hit the power button and it came on! Been running like a scalded dog ever since..
Maybe you just need to plug it up to the wall charger for a few hours or over night... before doing so, I would recommend pullling the battery let it sit for a minute or two, then put the battery back in a hook it up to the wall outlet. Hope you get it figured out!

Hey guys, hoping someone here can help me with this. My brother recently brought me his broken Atrix. He's a bit of an idiot and doesn't take care of his stuff and before I tear this thing apart and see if something awesome is broke I'd like to ask you guys if you've ever seen this problem. The phone will not turn on at all. Not with my battery or his, so this is obviously not a battery issue.
If the phone is plugged into an AC adapter, the phone will sometimes flash the green status light in rapid succession as well as flash the two led flash at the same time. Other times the phone will only flash the two led flash and the screen will stay off. I have put the phone on rice just in case he effed it up by somehow getting it wet, and I am leaving it unplugged and without a battery for the night.
This is likely a hardware problem, again he is careless with his things and likely broke the phone but I was checking with the community first to see if there was a fix out there or if anyone has ever ran into this problem. Thanks if anyone can help.
I have not had this problem or heard of it before...
But maybe you could try a factory hard reset (since you can not get into the phone to do the software reset)...
Or if there is no water damage (check the back under battery to see if there is discoloration of the water-damage indicator) and there is no "obvious physical damage" maybe you can bring it in to where it was purchased if it is under warranty... instead of opening it up and voiding the warranty you may or may not have.
Sorry I could not have been of more help

could i have a link to this? I don't think that this will be useful since i do not believe the phone even tries to boot. (google has said hold power and "camera buttons" what camera buttons?)
there is no indication of water damage, just normal ware on the phone. i just did it just in case.
also this phone is not under insurance or anything, so there would be no taking it anywhere.
thanks again for the reply.
You know what, I guess I was mistaken, I actually just read a couple hours ago about steps to do a hard reset, and I do infact recall reading something about a camera button... I just figured I wasn't aware of the button... But you're totally right, there definitely is no dedicated camera button on the Atrix, yet at least 5 different sites give the steps involving a camera button (I imagine it was copy and pasted from a generic "motorola hard reset" guide which doesn't apply to the Atrix, obviously)...
So yeah, sorry to say again, but I don't think I will be of much help to you,
and I only figured Motorola would offer some type of standard warranty on their hardware (assuming no physical/water damage), that's why I suggested bringing it in, but I did not even bother to look this information up, so they may not.

If you plugged it into AC before putting in rice, and there was water in there, probably guaranteed to be fu**ed now. Never ever plug a phone into AC if you know or suspect water damage. And rice overnight is not long enough............needs a few days in a bag with rice to pull all the moisture out.
Did your brother even tell you what he did with it? Dropped it, washed it, sat on it......?
Can you boot into RSD and flash a sbf?
I had my Atrix messed up last week after trying some mods. Was stuck in boot cycle. Booted into RSD mode, flashed 4.1.26, and everything was good from there.

i didn't suspect it of water damage, he likely dropped it a bunch and damaged something internally. i was just putting it on rice to make sure. but no the phone won't turn on or anything. so i'm going to send it in for replacement. thanks.
So I had bought this phone off ebay and when I got it today I tried to turn it on, but nothing happened.
I then plugged the phone in and tried powering it on and still nothing. I tried charging the battery and left it alone for an hour and afterwards the result is the same. Basically when I plug in the phone to the charger, the phone's screen will flash a battery icon as if its going to charge for a split second and then go blank. And then it will flash the battery icon again and then go blank again and it will go on like this for a couple of minutes until the screen finally stays blank.
So as I said even though I leave the phone to charge for a while, it still won't turn on and the only result seems to be that the phone gets warm near the camera. Also I tried to see if download mode works and pressed both volume buttons and I get a brief flash of some words. After doing it for several times I saw it said 'Low battery, cannot download' all in red.
I searched the forum and tried leaving the battery out for a while and also putting it in the fridge to see if anything would happen but nothing. So can anyone help? Is it just the battery?
Could be the battery - if you are on good terms with a local ATT store, try going there and asking if you can borrow a battery from their demo device to see if yours will power up. That's the best cheap way I can think of to rule that out.
Other possibility is a bad USB port. My first device developed a failure at about 2 months - I'm actually on day 5 with my warranty replacement. There is another member here, Moustro I think, who also may have a bad USB port. He and I were wondering if perhaps there was a bad batch out there. I'm not sure what ATT's warranty policy is for items re-sold on eBay, but might be worth checking out...
yeah that does sound like it could be the battery boot loop, take some photos of the battery to see if it is the oem... if it is the oem try a stand alone chager

I live in Canada don't think I'd get much help from AT&T probably.
Also the battery is the original one and not a replacement. I left it unplugged for a few hours and just now plugged it back in and its the same battery icon flashing for a couple of minutes and then blank screen. No charging whatsoever. I tried different outlets and different USB ports on my notebook and its all the same.
I also have an Infuse and charging for that every by every method is just fine so its my SII that's messed up.
If it's any condolence to you, I just bought a brand new GS2 from the ATT store today. The battery was semi-charged when I got it, and when it ran out, I plugged it in and got the same thing you did. Battery is flashing, cannot power it on, even plugged in. I also got the red "Low battery, cannot download".
I spent the better part of 4 hours reloading my apps and email addys, and everything else to get my phone up and running, and now this.
I am going back to the ATT store tomorrow and requesting a different brand new one.
This is my 2nd GS2, because I destroyed my first one in an accident.
Just as dandrumheller was saying. I had simimiar issues where the phone battery would blink on and off even if the charger was plugged in or not while the phone was powered off. The only way I could get my phone to boot to prepare it for warranty exchange was to flash a rom through Odin. But if you can't get it into download mode this wouldn't work.
My suggestion would be to use a different battery. That would let you know if its a hardware issue or bad battery.
hmm...
I was able to to get it to power on last night with what little battery was left. I then plugged it into the USB of my Mac, rather than the charging wart. When I awoke this AM, I have a fully charged battery, and a working phone. I will let the battery run out again completely today and see what happens.
That's great news! I hope it continues to work for you
I would not let it completely run out. Our batteries don't like that. Don't go below 25 percent. I'm glad you got it working. I know you're relieved.

I'm not sure relieved is the right word.
Apprehensive might be better.
We all know AT&T isn't in the best graces with most.
They must be the ***** of Comcast.
Anybody got anymore suggestions?? Can't get it to work no matter what I try.
Call samsung and see if they will honor the warranty? Don't know their rules, but in another thread someone suggested that sale of the phone does not void the warranty.

Were you able to find a fix for your problem? i bought a SGII from ebay and is presenting the same issue
For what its worth I am able to enter download with NO battery. In fact I ONLY do it without a battery. I just hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB to my computer while not pressing anything else. Without battery.
Thought the OP said he couldn't enter download.... so if that doesn't throw it in download it's more than just battery.

Guys,
I tried this and it worked...
At a last resort, i put the battery on nexus to see if it will charge and DAMN !! it did,, so the battery was not the issue...so i grab a swab with little alcohol then clean the terminals on the battery and the spring connectors on the phone... and voila !!! started charging and keeps working perfectly.
It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you guys.
Glad you were able to isolate the problem.

Same problem
Flashing on for a sec then flashing off, buttons flashed too. Phone got hot around the battery. Couldn't have described the problem better
Took some alcohol, cleaned the contacts for the USB connector, cleaned the battery contacts, and booyah, got the charging symbol again! Problem was, I didn't use the phone for a month, it rode around in the front pocket of my laptop bag, and apparently got the contacts dirty. A little toothpick and q-tip fun later, and my phone started charging again. Thanks -

Really? I've had mostly HTC phones and we could run them down pretty low.. I've been running mine down past 10 and it's been fine.. stock battery.
I had the same problem as op. My last resort was to cut the micro usb end of a spare cable and connected it to the (+) and (-) on the phone itself. since the phone booted up, i knew it was the battery. Next, i did the same thing but (+) and (-) on the battery itself while connected to a computer. i held it in place for about 10 seconds. put the battery back in the phone and it started charging again. im sure it wasnt the safeat thing to do, but it worked. Maybe the dead battery needed some kind of jump.
btw. The wires you would be using are the the black and red. and i got this idea from

I believe these are different types of batteries. Not Lithium, but something else. I bought some spare batteries from eBay and the batteries had the same instructions... That it is not good to let them die completely, and charge then preferably when they still have 1/3 charge left.

I put my phone on the charger last night just like every other night, and awoke this morning to the screen frozen, displaying the time of 12:35am. No buttons were responding, so I pulled the battery and put it back in. It won't boot up, no lights, no nothing. Tried my spare batteries, still nothing. Tried all my chargers and nothing happens when plugged in. Dead.
Rooted, with UnNamed rom, but haven't flashed anything in months.
Is this thing dead, or can it be brought back with a jig?
EDIT: Thanks for the troubleshooting tips, but this baby is dead.dead...now I have to return it and hope that warranty stays intact...

No it was docked in the Samsung charging stand...
Pull your battery and leave it out for at least 10 minutes... go for 30. Then put your battery back in and try it. The purpose is to completely deplete all of your electronic resistors and capacitors of any power.

Reason I asked is it can make the phone overheat, it happened to me and many others on here.
I woke up to the same situation as you did and had to pull the battery and wait a bit then charge it back cause it was dead.
Ok battery out for 30+ minutes, and popped it back in - still nothing, dead as a doornail...
Should I try a jig before taking it to warranty, just to make sure that they aren't going to be able to boot it and see I rooted?
If there's anything I can do to avoid having to go buy a phone at full price to get me through the weekend, that would be awesome...going out of town in the morning and can't be without a phone...
I had that happen to a Captivate. Go to an AT&T warranty place and they can swap it.

Yeah unfortunately it sounds pretty dead :-(
I had this happen a few months ago. I think it has to do with how it deals with a completely dead battery. The symptom is that the phone is either completely unresponsive or will show the battery logo with a circle and then quickly power off. This is how I got around it:
-First pull out the battery, and leave the back cover open.
-Get a microUSB cable plugged into your PC at the ready, but not plugged into the phone yet. This will not work with the wall charger.
-Hold down vol down, vol up, and power, and then plug in the USB cable. In a few seconds you'll see the download mode "Custom OS" dialog with a yellow triangle.
-Do not press any buttons after this point.
-Plug in the battery, and let it sit for 10-30 minutes.
-After the battery's had enough time to get a base charge, hold the power button until the screen turns black.
-If the battery has enough charge to begin charging, you should see the full-screen battery logo with a "progress wheel" circle in the middle change to the battery with the five dots below. This means the charger is now active.
-You can now let it charge off of USB, or move it to the wall charger for a faster charge.
Again, this is what's worked for me. Post here if you are having any luck with this method.
I have a Captivate that died on me in the exact same fashion two days ago. I'm deciding whether to wait a few months for new releases or just getting a SGSII. ATT is offering it for $10 with a contract renewal.
Since my phone is out of warranty, is there any other way to get it replaced?

Surprisingly I had the same EXACT situation occur as the OP. I set my phone down charged via USB last night and next morning I woke up to an extrememly luke warm phone with nothing turning on, it was a blank screen and I for sure thought the battery was dead...
Ended up at Radioshack in search for a spare battery to use, but the employee's were assholes and wouldn't let me borrow one from out of their SGS2 displays, so I decided at this point to just find a battery online and be phone-less for a few days.
Thanks to pokey for this little gameplan he had written out, , it appears there still is life in my lil' R2D2... at least it appears to be.
Edit: Yep it worked, just have to wait for it to charge now--those who have this problem follow pokey's steps and this should direct you on the right path. Good luck!!

Unfortunately this didn't work for me, thanks though, had high hopes and tried it several times. I picked up a jig and no life with that either. Dead.
Oh well...warranty phone is supposed to arrive today, can't wait to take back this WP7 abomination (had to try it).
So since this phone is verified as dead now, is there anything to worry about in sending it back through warranty since I'm unable to wipe/unroot it?
This scares the crap out of me since I just got my phone. Good tips to try if it does happen.
Can it be concluded that it has something to do with leaving the charger on it after it is fully charged? Maybe something with the voltage regulator(?) that tells the charger to stop charging when the battery is full.
I have dewalt drills that I swear lose life if you leave them on the charger for long periods of time consistently (even though they are to stop charging when the battery is full). Whats weird about these problems is that it killed the phone too, not just the battery.

Yes you should worry, at&t might not be able to get it up and running but Samsung will, and when they get the device up and running they will see the root & rom so expect a very large phone bill in 1-2 months.

Well that's just friggin' great
My sgsii died on me while rooted and I swapped it out for warranty and did not incure a bill from AT&T or Samsung. It's been about 6 months now so I'm pretty sure they just used it for spare parts.
The funny part of the story is my current sgsii died the other day won't turn on at all. Got my jig today and that doesn't work either. I will try pokeys method and hopefully it works for me.

While you could be correct, I don't see Samsung sinking the labor time into looking that closely. I'm guessing they just hook it up to something that'll push the firmware, test functionality, and send it out as a refurb.
I could very well be wrong, but when you get hundreds/thousands of dead devices like they do, its more cost effective to just keep it simple and move onto the next.
I've never returned a device, stock or customized, so this is just my guess based on experience working with a large corporation.
just yesterday my phone was working fine, but until i've enter the MGM grand gardens arena for a company convention, right before i step into the arena my phone was working fine, just until i walk in and situated myself, i didnt realize the phone was no longer able to turn on. the room was blast with loud music and loud bass, maybe the bass has somehow interfered with the signals and cause it to short circuit?
I was running meanrom ICS v2.4 with 4ext bootloader.
so my question is, is it brick? i've tried to put into a charger and no light was on, i've change the battery no luck to even turn it on.
thanks folks.
to me sounds like a bad battery..have you tried another battery in it?
Sounds like the battery may of died could be dead or your phone just took a nap and isn't wanting to wake up.. Just pull the battery out slap it back in and see if you get any red light or get it to power back up..
Bricking only happens via wrong radio flash gsm via CDMA or you yank the battery out in the middle of a flash.
I have tried pulling the battery and change to a different batter and it's still NO go, so not sure what happen with the phone, guess i'll bring it into the sprint to see what they can do.

since you think it is a brick. you can always send it to me and I'll have a new free phone. lol sadly one fault with our phones is if the battery dies. you have to take the battery out and charge it in a third party device for 5-10 minutes... then you can charge it the rest of the way with your phone. I WISH THEY WOULD FIX THIS! SADLY I haven't been able to buy backup batteries and a charger for this phone yet.
well, came back to LA, took the phone apart and resemble again, then it magically work again...oh well, dont know what causes it, i guess it just need a reboot in circuitry...kinda strange, but hey, it now works...dont need to spent $400 buck for a new phone.

try pulling the battery out for 30 minutes and then put the cable back in then the battery then turn it on, if this doesn't work you could buy a wall charger for the battery so you can charge the battery without the phone
i've been using my phone since last year and last month it died.
i put it on the table, went to bed, then in the morning it was dead.
i've tried to boot it(didn't boot,no download no recovery), charge it(wall charger, usb charger no charging), different button combos(soft reset?),different batteries; tried to clean the usb port etc.it didn't responed to anything.completely dead.
it was running a cm nightly(june maybe), no oc or uv or anything out of casual.no eMMC bug, no software change(inc. apps).
after i left it in charging couple hours, i sent it to samsung.after a week they said "motherboard issue, liquid damaged;so no warranty".
funny thing is,there wasn't any water near the phone that night.
i asked "did you replace anything in the phone" they said no and i left.
then i got home, plugged the phone, nothing.no sign of life.
and without anything to lose i hit the power button and,and IT'S ALIVE,IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE!!!!
it was a emotional indeed.it brought back to life.
everything was there as i left(messages, call log, candy crush everything, also recovery and download).
a lot of questions popped in my head.but i thought samsung fixed it but forgot to bill me.
after i used it for couple hours battery got low.so i plugged it left it for couple hours then checked it back and it didn't charged.i plugged it to my laptop and nothing changed, just nothing happend.
i called the samsung, asked about my phone they said that they didn't do anything(didn't replaced any part or software).
phone can boot but cannot charge(and no usb recognition).everything else works normal.
every once on a while i call my phone back from death with a fully charged battery for a little fun,i use it like 12 hours then the phone dies again.
i don't know what happend in that service center maybe they did some sick satanic ritual,or voodoo on my phone.
maybe it'll kill me i don't know...
did any of you heard anything like this.
(
note:this is a sudden death case but it's different than others.the phone booted but couldn't charged.i don't think it's a software issue could be hardware but can't say for sure.my warranty is ended so i can't take it to samsung for free.
motherboard costs a lot of money and i wont buy it.
now some say it could be damaged because of humidity or sweat or rain or tears ...
but i want more from that, i want a solution from you people.
it's a cliche but "sory fo my englis"

i've been using my phone since last year and last month it died.
i put it on the table, went to bed, then in the morning it was dead.
i've tried to boot it(didn't boot,no download no recovery), charge it(wall charger, usb charger no charging), different button combos(soft reset?),different batteries; tried to clean the usb port etc.it didn't responed to anything.completely dead.
it was running a cm nightly(june maybe), no oc or uv or anything out of casual.no eMMC bug, no software change(inc. apps).
after i left it in charging couple hours, i sent it to samsung.after a week they said "motherboard issue, liquid damaged;so no warranty".
funny thing is,there wasn't any water near the phone that night.

Check on eBay for usb connector board, it's about ten bucks and easy to replace, you got nothing to loose..
Good luck!

thx for the suggestion.I already ordered one two days ago.I just hope i won't need any sorcery.
btw do you have any idea about how can this happen.
Phones don't have to be exposed to ' obvious water' (drop it in the toilet, spill a drink over it, etc) to be moisture damaged. People either don't notice or forget the time 12 mths ago they checked their text messages & a bit of rain got on the screen, or the time they had it in their pocket in the bathroom half an hour after they had a shower. It doesn't take much, and it almost always takes a long time for problems to manifest.
As Karpfenhai said, if you're lucky it's just the USB board/port, but don't be surprised if the problems reoccur intermittently again after a while; in that case, you're probably better off getting another phone than going down the motherboard replacement route.
