PSA: PortalStandAlone.apk - Motorola Droid X2

after spending 2 nights trying to figure out why HDMI mirroring was not working on my rooted droid x2 and was on my wife's rooted droid x2, i finally figured out that you can NOT freeze the PortalStandAlone.apk. that apk is needed for your HDMI out to work. if it's frozen, you have to unfreeze it, then reboot. HDMI out should then work.
i know others had issues with it not working. i'm sure this is the reason why.

Thanks! Didn't know that.

Atrix Reboots when I put it into the lapdock (laptop mode)

I just got a lapdock in the fire sale, and I had faux 2.2 enhanced stock kernel. The webtop top bar didn't work so I flashed the stock kernel and all was well for a day. And today, (no reboots since reflash), when I put it into the dock, for some reason any mouse click would act like I was minimize/reopen the mobile display no matter where I clicked. So I rebooted my phone to clear webtop from memory, and now going to webtop reboots my phone. Just cleared Dalvik and Cache, no dice. Again, I'm on stock kernel, removed setCPU etc... Going to flash webtop again, don't think it'll be help though.
Any suggests?
stock kernel is great to be listed, how about what ROM you're using too? any maybe any mods?
Webtop over hdmi hack, and a few frozen blur Apps. No roms. I don't think I have any other mods. It worked today for a few minutes but its doing it again. Reboots even if in webtop already.
Trolling from my ATRIX 4G's XDA premium app, still on the gold medal winner of worst customer satisfaction for the second year in a row! Congrats!
My Atrix (stock deodexed) would reboot when i put it in the car charger and I had to revert the Webtop over HDMI hack to get it to work properly. If this doesn't work for you a logcat log would be helpful in determining what is crashing your phone.
Ill see. I can't do an eclipse logcat cause adj randomly disconnects from eclipse like 2 seconds after I connect from forceful connection refusal. Can't really do software testing with this issue... Can't really do it wired cause I gotta plug it into the dock... will try wirelessAdb. When I get home. Works fine with my car dock, still need to reflash webtop partition. But going to be so busy tonight...

Having the same problem as soon as I put my phone on the dock it reboots but it works just fine with the HDMI hack no reboots at all. Redoing my phone and webtop doesn't seen to fix it. So I'm thinking I'm just going to sell it if it keeps doing it.

I frequently get this problem too. I can usually reboot my phone and it'll work, but randomly it seems that when I place my phone in, it takes awhile and the phone will continually reboot until I pull it off the lapdock.
On Darkside 4.0 w/ darkside's stock kernel and Fruitcake webtop 2.3.5.
Mine will continually reboot as soon as you get to the FP reader if you leave it on the dock after the first crash and reboot. It seems random. Still trying to get a logcat log through adbWireless.
Also right now trying to figure out how to compile a tun.ko module for the stock kernel - i've never done kernel work. Not sure where to get the aosp kernel? There's not really any instructions on it

Just had the strangest thing happen. After the latest crash I was going to try starting over from scratch(again), but when I went into root explorer then usr to set the start-oshwt-2.sh file back to normal the folder was empty no sub folders at all. After a few restarts everything came back.

This happens to me sometimes. I haven't found a good fix for it since I've been playing around with so many different ROMs and webtop hacks lately. The best I've found is to open the webtop screen right after I open the webtop program. Clunky, I know, but it hasn't failed me yet.
I find that I must open the dock after it gets into multimedia dock mode. Which takes up to 30 seconds. I must also undock when it returns to media node, assuming it doesn't reboot.

Razr Maxx and Netflix issues (error code 1010)

I just exchanged my HTC Rezound for and Razr Maxx 2 days ago. For the most part I absolutely love it and I believe it's FAR superior to the Rezound. However, I watch a lot of Netflix on my device and I noticed an irritating error message yesterday. It said something like "The Netflix service cannot be reached at this time. Please try again later. Error code 1010." This message popped up roughly every FIVE minutes! The weird thing is that I would immediately exit the video and check my 4g signal and it looked fine. No signal droppage at all. It has to be related to the 4g however bc this morning I tested it on a 3g connection and the video played all the way from start to finish with no problem. Do you guys know what's up with this? If it's a problem with the 4g then why am I still showing a 4g signal? Please help! I don't want to have to switch to 3g every time I watch Netflix.

Not sure, but I'd try clearing the app data. If that doesn't work you could always uninstall/re install. I haven't heard of this issue before, our experienced it myself. Might end up being a call to Verizon.

I'll try clearing the app data, but I can't uninstall it since it's a preloaded app on the maxx. Btw, I tried talking to Verizon tech support 3 times already. They're really stupid and unhelpful and don't even seem to WANT to help me. Not to mention....anytkme I've EVER called them with an issue they say "we don't have any reports of this issue in our database". Really?! It's not like I can have THAT many issues that no one else has had or documented before. That's why I put posts on this website. Most of the people on here are really techy, super knowledgeable, and overall helpful. Anyway, fingers crossed. Hopefully clearing the data will help.

I just got my Maxx about a week ago and I've had it reboot twice on me while using the netflix app. it was sudden no lock up or anything once just the phone and once right after I made it full screen on the lapdock 100.
I'd be curious to hear if there are any others having issues. I don't have enough data to know if it was just a fluke..
Edit: my razr is stock 2.3.6 never rooted, figured I wouldn't mess with anything until after the official ICS update.
I have not had any issues as long as the signal was strong...My netflix is running fine...Phone is not rooted yet.
Well, a few days ago (Sunday June 10th) when I talked to Verzizon customer support 3 times, I also happened to talk to Motorola AND go by the Verizon store. Motorola suggested I log out of Netflix and then log back in. Verizon replaced my SIM card. After that, I didn't receive that error code anymore....until today (Wednesday June 13th). I got 3 days of error message free Netflix viewing and this crap started again. I logged out of Netflix altogether and logged back in and was able to finish the last 15 minutes of the video I was watching. The good thing is that it at least went longer than 5 minutes this time. I just don't know when or why this will happen again. I really wish I knew if a permanent fix.

Download an app called real signal and motorola restore connectivity 4G.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
I already downloaded connectivity restore. In spite of that, I still have a spotty connection sometimes. Why do I need to download real signal though? I am correct in understanding that it doesn't actually boost my signal, right? It only helps me monitor it.

Netflix hasn't worked on my Maxx at all since I got it about a week ago. It worked every time on my Rezound.
I keep getting the error 1009. And this is when I have extremely strong signal too. What gives?
And I've done multiple factory resets, etc. with no luck.
Try logging out of Netflix and logging back in. It may not be permanent, but when I do that it works properly for a couple of days. I got error code 1010 yesterday afternoon and then yesterday evening I played the first 50 minutes of "Office Space" with no interruption. The only reason it didn't play more is bc I turned it off myself. Lol.

NetFlix has some seriously half-fast software. Adding insult to injury, their services are typically overloaded.
One major problem with their software that I've seen - and why it may be relevant to your experience - is that when NetFlix encounters a network failure (socket connection was reset by peer, with the peer being NetFlix' servers), their software seems to "forget" that it isn't connected any more.
You can try and try, but you'll just get an error.
When that happens, you have to stop NetFlix with a task manager, the kill command, or reboot the phone. Brilliant...
Neither Verizon nor Moto have anything to do with that app, other than VZW getting some $$$ for preinstalling it as bloatware. It's broken, VZW knows it, and can do nothing about it.
Your best bet: Call NetFlix. It's their app, and they own updates/support.
I actually called Netflix and they denied there being any known issues with the app. They blamed the issue on Verizon.

Did they at least explain what Error code 1010 means?
try resetting your password, it's been fixed for me 2 weeks now idky

Somehow borked webtop. Any Help?

I sideloaded the ICS ota. Tonight i was putting webtop 3.0 through its paces. Things started to run slow, a couple of apps forced closed. So i rebooted the phone. When it rebooted, webtop was gone. When i plugged it into my HD dock i had no option to enable webtop, just the other dock modes. Tried a hard reset, still the same thing. Anybody have any ideas how to get webtop working again? I just bought a lapdock so I'm hoping i can...

Touch screen issues

Hi all im having a interesting problem with my touch screen. Infact im not sure its the touch screen or a software bug really. Im runing a Droid X2 with Eclipse 2.2.1 now. Th problem started out when i was texting it would suddenly stop sensing the text keys i was touching. If i locked the screen and re opened it the problem stopped then the problem suddenly only started affecting the send button. and the odd thing is when i changed to swype entry it started working. I sbf'd back to 2.3.4 and the problemed seemed to go away. Then i rooted saved with voodoo root keeper updated to 2.3.5 418 build then restored root and cleared data and loaded eclipse 2.2.1. I belive at this point the problem was fixed then i reloaded all my apps with titanium backup and then suddenly the problem reocored. I went into manage appas and went yo multi touch input app and cleared the data but that didnt fix it any sugjestions? Ps im still not 100% sure its not a harware problem but i think its software.
Wipe and call Verizon to get a new phone. Had same problem but it would happen about 5-20 times a day and no I'm not kidding in fact some days it was worse then 20. Its a bad digitizer. Not software related. I had it on froyo, 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5 all rooted and not rooted, on eclipse and a few other roms that I liked. Nothing will fix it and it will get worse. But from all my experience all Droid x2 have a bad screen in one form or another. I went through 3 Droid x2 and all of them had a bad screen.
A fun little experiment to try and I suggest all owners of dx2 should try is call tech support but don't talk to any one just try selecting options and or speaker phone. I found 3 Droid x2 with this whacked glitch that happens on every rom official or not. What to look for is if you try to select an option see if the screen goes shuts off as soon as you hit the option. Its a random glitch and all 3 of my dx2 had this but in different parts of the screen.
My first dx2 had issues with selecting option 1 and 2nd dx2 had issues with options 2 & 5 and 3rd one got it when I tried to hit speaker phone. And I knew it wasn't because of a screen time out cause it would do it even when I was rapidly trying to hit the numbers. This happens with any phone # that has a select option portion. May take a couple phone calls to get the glitch to happen.
But original poster just call Verizon, your original issue should he enough to warrant a replacement as long as its still in warranty. I assume its a bad digitizer cause that's what allows your phone to register what your touching on the screen. Its hardware not software.

Well i would love to do that but the phone is one i put together from parts and im on page plus cellular which rents verizons towers and offers exceptionaly afordable plans you dont get threw verizon. Also I have done some cheking and i really dont think its the touch screen simply because it only ever does this when sending texts and the dead spots on the screen never show up when im doing anythign else.
I would bet it's the keyboard your using. Try SwiftKey and see if that works.

[Q] almost 2 year old Razr XT912 freezing and USB not working

Hi Everyone!
I'm new here, however I've been lurking for a week here and everywhere trying to fix and come up with solutions to my problems. Hopefully I can get some help or ideas as I'm going nuts over this.
Please let me know if this isn't the right place or if there's a thread with the info, I've tried to find as much as I can understand on my own first.
I have a XT912 I got almost 2 years ago from Verizon. I've never rooted it, but I did enable developer mode and use PDANet+ to tether USB to my computer as a backup internet connection for emergencies. I need it for work, I'm oncall 24/7, linux sysadmin, I need access to datacenters. I also need my phone to work 100%, Work needs to be able to reach me anytime.
3 months ago in May the battery life was suddenly not lasting the whole day, so I got a Maxx battery on amazon, genuine and installed it myself. My phone is not a Maxx, but it fix and worked flawlessly for 3 months, no issues. An odd thing is in About it says the phone is a DROID RAZR MAXX which I don't think it did before but I'm not sure. The battery only has + and - so can it detect that its a higher capacity battery and determine that the phone is now a Maxx? Perhaps this caused the issues below 3 months later?
We were on a trip for the weekend, I tested my tether and had internet just to make sure, then didn't use it again. I did have my data turned on more than normal to check Wunderground radar a lot for rain. I believe I left it on over night as well, which I normally do not. Perhaps Verizon pushed an update overnight because it was accessible? I don't know if that happened and the version in about is 4.1.2 now.
The next day the freezing started. The screen will freeze on different things, some as simple as the home screen, others during an incoming or outgoing call starting, text, kitchen timer, etc. Sometimes the screen will still work a little in the background but touch is completely unresponsive. I have to hard or soft reboot it. This happens 2-4 times everyday. However the rest of the day it works perfectly and runs great!
When I later went to use my USB to backup the phone it did not work and has not worked at all. I have 2 cables, both previously worked. I have 2 laptops that both were setup and worked with the drivers and USB and PDANet+ tethering. Both do not detect the USB at all, it only charges, there are no devices in Windows 7 device manager at all. I've removed, reinstalled the drivers, rebooted phone and computer, different USB ports, etc.
I've worked out that I can take a family member's upgrade and get a new phone now. I'm looking at the Droid Maxx at Verizon since it has the biggest battery and should be similar to what I already have. Mini looks nice but I'd rather have the battery.
Questions
Could the battery change have caused the software to change the phone name to Maxx, freeze, and break USB 3 months later?
Could the phone have updated to 4.1.2 overnight and broke these things?
Would a factory reset or installing a previous version help?
If I get a Droid Maxx from Verizon with the available upgrade, can I put the SIM card into it from my current XT912 AND swap it back and forth between them? (I want to do this if I root either or both phones I can keep one working and as a backup in the future)
Is the Droid Maxx currently at Verizon a good candidate to root? I'd only like to root so that I can make a backup of the phone OS in case something like this happens again. I'd like to understand and setup my own backups of my data and apps AND test that I can wipe and restore them (I'm a sysadmin, I like backups and testing restores). I'm having trouble understanding the rooting process from this perspective, so if there's any docs explaining this better I'd love to know.
Is the Droid Maxx a good candidate for PDANet+ tethering again? The site says my current phone should work with its version 4.1.2 but I have no USB at all right now to tether over.
On another note, I'd like to have a spare phone plan that I would normally not use, only in emergencies. I'm looking for something that's the cheapest, most prepaid seem to have catches or monthly fees. Data would be ideal if I could tether it for emergency on a prepaid plan too, but I'm not finding any cheap solutions such as $100 or less total a year (not including the cost of minutes and data should I need to use it in an emergency)
tl;dr 2 year old Droid Razr with battery upgraded to Maxx battery 3 months ago suddenly freezing and usb connection completely not detected or working. Looking into new Verizon Droid Maxx, rooting for purpose of backing up and restoring as well as rooting old phone. Possibly having another backup cheap phone depending on costs. Any help, suggestions, thoughts?
update got new phone
The phone is freezing more frequently even just on pressing the power button to get to unlock screen. I used an upgrade to get a new Verizon Droid Razr Maxx xt1080. It comes with an SIM card already in it, so all we did was enter my Google account to sync contacts and left it stock for now.
I plugged it into my computer with my old cable and the USB works, no changes, no dev. So the old Razr USB is completely not working for some reason.
I was told that I can go on the Verizon website and switch my number back to my old phone fairly instantly. I'll try this tonight and look into rooting the new phone and getting backups all setup.
